  3. Perhaps if you feel that the bakshish of your dari is "messy", then you may want to re-think about why you keep it.

I don't see tieing one's dara as an issue (if it's really necessary). But if feel paranoid that it's not "neat" a "mess" on your face then you seriously should think about why you're keeping your Guru's gift.

I think no "fixo" can "fix" that paranoia!!!

I am a little upset with some of the comments made by my fellow Singh's. We have a brother who would like some tips regarding how his dhari should be tied and kept comfortable for work. On the other hand we have other brothers who have mentioned the word 'messy'. London001 did not mention that his dhari was messy at all.

In society today we have so many problems with youth cutting their hair and dhari's. Is it really a good idea to tell people that if they think their dhari is 'messy' then they should consider why they keep their dhari?

Are we here to encourage our Sikh brothers and sisters to stop beadbi of their kesh or discourage them because they shouldn't tie their dhari's?????

Please think before we start hurting the feelings of our brothers and sisters!

  4. why not have a tournament where various ragi do kirtan in raag. Every mistake means a point deduction and the sangat votes for their best ragi on the day along with the view of professional judges.

Could be fun, or not! LOL

  5. well the committee just wants to spend the minimum on the gurdwara. They'll only do something unless its really needed.

I can't see someone reversing into this area, looks more like a truck driven at a high speed.

Let us know once the buildings fixed folks.

  6. I'm waiting to here of these stories. I can't believe that Singh Sabha Southall (the head office of sikhs in England) is so corrupt!

However, as all gurdwara i no that it has its fair share of trouble.

If there is some kind of discrimination against youth then make the public aware my brothers and sisters.

  7. That leads us back to my earlier comment that the committee members need to sort themselves out rather than picking on the youth.

I think the term 'sikhi begins @ home' is quite good. Think about it, if our parents all sat us down when they do path, let us take amrit when ready and encouraged us to live the sikh way we won't have any problems with youth not going to gurdwaras because they don't understand whats going on.

Also i keep reading about 'youth getting arrested by committees' please add past experiances that you know of.

  8. I'm not being picky or personal to you guys, i just want to get as much depth as i can from this topic. We've gone off topic now though hunna.

You can't blame the committee everywhere, i strongly believe that somewhere in a little town there are gursikhs who run the gurdwara sahib to all the maryada.

  9. 1. LOL, giani speaking english. Why should they, its our job to learn punjabi.

    2. Youth participation - what can they do, it can get complicated when most cut their hair etc.

    3. sikhi month sounds good but can u guys b bothered to meet up 2 days running. can u lot do kirtan or play some part in the event?

    4. sikh parchar should b done in the gurdwara not elsewhere.

    5. Committees r a big problem, they won't step down or let others do seva that they don't like

1 - Why Should they? That's the reason in the decline in youths attending. neither is that attitude required. a majority, yes a majority speak english and we need to move with the times. Otherwise the buddhe can sit on the Gurwara until they pop their clogs and the Gurdwara will remain empty afterwards. THIS is where we fail, all other religions make there parchaar in English spanish whatever language is required!! Guru Nanak did the same!

2 - Well there you have it, if the haircutting is the barrier, and you don't let them in, ,it's not the fault of the youth they turn to other religions & sharab/drugs etc!

3 - What? You've obviously not been around Mr! All other religions actively do parchaar anywhere they can. You sit inside your Gurdwara and do it to the walls! rolleyes.gif

4 - Why won't they step down? The sangat put them there the sangat must bring them down!

What is the 'seva' they don't like? The real seva or the seva of not allowing the halls to be used for the kanjar puna they love indulging in!!

Joothi lak ke taan devan sir roda kar Committee walian da!! :e:

    1. It is the responsibility of all parents to teach their kids punjabi! i take it you don't speak punjabi baba ji?

    2. I add that the kids of the committee members are the clean shaven so called 'sikh' and nobody will say anything to them regardless of what they do.

    3. How can you do PROPER parchar outside the gurdwara, will you be providing degh and langar? Will you be presenting your sangat with guru granth sahib ji?

    4. I can assure u that the committee is not elected by sangat as they only do 'seva' as nobody else can be bothered with the hassle of running a gurdwara/business

  10. 1 - A Giani who is able to speak english (or translator ) who sits beside the Giani and translates what is being said.

2 - Encourage youth participation in events.

3 - Have Sikhi months (one weeeknd a month) where all Sikhs get together and have group activites.

4 - Encourage Sikh parchaar outside of the Gurdwara to people of other faiths!

5 - STOP all corruption in the committees

    1. LOL, giani speaking english. Why should they, its our job to learn punjabi.

    2. Youth participation - what can they do, it can get complicated when most cut their hair etc.
