  1. theres been alot of discussion on mixed marriages . ie Sikhs marrying non Sikhs.

well i know someone who works for the marriages births register.

which has all the stastics on all the marriages in the UK. and what religion each partner is that is married.

you can view these online. i checked the scotland records which shows Sikhs and muslims are the most likely to marry within their own religion.

it showed that marriages between Hindus and Sikhs was increasing though.

just thought id let everyone know. instead of all the discussion about muslims marrying Sikhs. we can actually see the real stats of how many are marrying out of religion and to which reliigon.

  2. Hello all.

i am from the Bhatra community. but class myself as a Sikh.

Bhatra Sikhs are a well establisehd community in the UK. and have been here for well over a 100 years.

some people might not have heard of Bhatra Sikhs because they have not come across them. this is mainly due to were Bhatra Sikhs are settled. they are mainly located in Sea Ports across the UK.

in places like Cardif, Bristol, glasgow, Southampton. where they form the majority of Sikhs.

you will find that Bhatras are very nationalistic and Fiercely orthodox in Sikhsim.

  3. Big Tera,

I've been washing my hair everyday for the last 2 weeks and nothing has changed. The dandruff, the itching and the hair loss is still the same

The dandruff I have is concentrated on my scalp and never really falls out of my hair like you see on the dandruff commercials (Head & Shoulders commercials). My dandruff makes my scalp look very very dry.

I'm going to see the dermatologist in 2 weeks to be tested for eczema.

I washed my hair with yogurt, it didn't help with my above mentioned problems but it made my hair very soft. So for those of you out there who have dry hair I would recommend washing your hair with yogurt.

    G.Kaur,

opps i didnt see this post.

sorry to see that it didnt work. i guess your condition might be different to mine. and everyones scalp/hair is different.

i posted some advice in my previous post. maybe you could try that. and see if the itching/dandruff/hair loss stops. hopefully it will. i would also reccomend not blow drying your hair. but becuase you obviously have long hair. its difficult to dry it with a towel, which is a better option. becuase blow drying is not good for the hair and makes it to dry and unhealthy.

if everything ive posted doesnt work. then maybe you should give the medication/lotions that your got from the dermatologist a try.

  4. G.Kaur, further advice i would suggest that you make sure you are rinsing your hair thoroughly after shamppoing. i think women probably suffer from the condition of dandruff more. becuase they have very long hair.

also if your wearing a Keshki. that could be making your problem worse. its obviously worn for religious reasons, but if its affecting your hair condition its understandble not to wear it. sorrry if i have offended anyone. when you cover your scalp with a cap or fabric in your case it makes the hair more oily ie the sebum. the dandruff feeds on that oil. so you get white patches and your scalp becomes itchy. maybe you should not wear it for a while to see if it gets better.

i know after wearing a bandana/cap my hair would get alot more greasy and oily which in turn would make my hair itch alot and i would get more dandruff.

i wouldnt suggest putting oil in your hair. if your scalp/hair is anything like mine it will just make your hair more oily and itch more. which is what happened to me when i used oil.

    hope that helped.

  5. this was posted by a someone on a muslim forum.

I remember my cousin telling me about this when it happened. She studied dentistry with my cousin in Birmingham. The Sikh girl who killed the wife is apparantly so stunning that she had every man after her.

I can't understand why a woman who has everything going for her would ruin her career and life and another woman's over a guy! No man is worth it.

Apparently people who know the husband say thay he is no saint himself and was not forced to marry, and in fact had something to do with the murder indirectly by encourging her to kill the wife. I blame the man more than the woman.

I feel sorry for the woman who got killed, (may she rest in peace) but from what I know everything happens for a reason and maybe her short life would have prevented her and her future child further unhappiness.

why is that we see so many stories of sikh girls who are willling to anything to be with a muslim? whats the attraction? ive never felt an attarction towards muslims girls?

  6. i dont think there is any connection with washing your hair eveyday and hairloss. infact you can use head and shoulders everyday as its ph balanced.

you could do a test. wash your hair like you normaly do and see how much hair you lose in the shower. then wash it everyday for a week and see how much hair you lose.

i notciced that when i washed my hair everyday i didnt see any hair loss ie i didnt see any hair falling on my hands in the shower.

i found that although washing your hair is probably alot of hassle and idealy its best not to wash your hair everday.

i know many people who wash their hair everyday and they dont have any hair loss.

i wash mine eveyday because i get alot of dandruff and if i dont my scalp starts to itch to the point where it drives me crazy lol. however the only reason i do is becuase of my scalp problem and if i didnt wash it i would get a very itcy scalp.

hair loss can be caused by a few other probelms also. so its best to see a dermatologist to rule out any other cause of hair loss.

  7. @ Big Tera

    Thank you for your reply.

I've been using Nizoral (1% and 2%) for month's with no result.

I can't wash my hair with shampoo every single day because I'd be bald in no time. I loose so much hair every time I wash my hair with shampoo.

Ermm I wear a keski so I don't use products like hair sprays, gels etc.

What's the name of the tablets and shampoo that you didn't use because of the side effects?

I'm going to see another dermatologist on Tuesday, but the other doctor's told me not to use shampoo's with perfume as it'll irritate my scalp (and head and shoulders contains perfume) so I can't use it.

P.s one of the dermatologists I've seen thinks it all started when I used Garnier shampoo few times last year, as Garnier contains perfume and other chemicals.

    G.Kaur

im not sure about the garnie shampoo causing it. because it would have stopped by now after you stopped using that particular shampoo.

well half the time the dematologist dont know how to treat it themsleves from my experience. depends on the dematogists. but you said you have hair loss which maybe due to something else not associated with the dandruff. but i think in your case it is probably the itchy scalp that is causing the hairloss. i would say its best to get it checked out by a dermatogist. they gave me a blood test to see if they could find anything that was causing my hairloss apart from my itchy scalp. but it turns out that it was due to me scratching my hair all the time that was causing me to lose hair.

it maybe that you have female pattern hairloss?? which runs in the family. i dont mean to shock you but there could be a number of reason for the hairloss.

well the reason you might be losing hair everytime you shampoo is becuase. you may wash your hair every three days? which is to late. by that time the dandruff has increased and become very itchy so when you wash your hair the scalp has already become very dry, and unhealthy so your hair is weak hence it results in hairloss when you wash it at that stage.

thats why i thought you should wash it everyday so your hair/scalp doesnt get into a bad state and when you wash it the hair wont fall out becuase its not weak and full of dandruff.

the above worked for me. however everyone is different and obviousy you have been advised not to use head and shoulders. so its best not use it in that case.

P.s the tablets they gave me had some long name i cant remember it was about 5 years ago and they gave me a lotion but cant remember the name unfortunatly. sorry.

  8. G.Kaur, i totally understand your condtion and what you are going through.

it sounds very similar to what i have. it looks like you might have 'seborric dermatisis' which is what i have i think. basicaly most peoeple shed dead skin from their scalp. but people who have excess dandruff they get more dandruff and their scalp sheds more of the dead skin. hence why you get alot of dandruff in a short period of time.

i have also been suffering from hairloss due to the itching that the dandruff causes. ie when i scratch my hair. hairs come out and then they dont grow back becuase the hair folicles have been damaged dues to the scratching of the scalp.

you must not mistake normal dandruff for the condition you have. most people get dandruff. but theres is a condition where you basicaly get loads of it. to the point the scalp has alot of white patches and it itches alot. you could say 'extreeme dandruff'

now i went to the dcotors for the condition and he gave me nizoral. which Initially causes some hair loss but it works.

anway, i was also given some tablets and he gave me some other shampoo to use. but i didnt use them becuase of the side effects.

the condition you have always gets worse in winter so remember to take more care with your hair at this time.

now theres no cure for excess dandruff you can only control it. the best thing ive found to work is use Head and shoulders every day or every other day.

using it every day works for me. i no longer get big clumps od dandruff in my hair and its not itching anymore. and the hairloss has stopped because im not scratching my scalp anymore.

personaly i dont like washing my hair everyday. but head and shouldsers is suitable for everyday use. but i have to wash my hair everyday to remove the andruff and the grease that builds up. i think youll find thats the only way of controling it.

you must wash everyday as it will stop any flair ups of dandruff which cause the itching and the dandruff which ends up in you scrtaching your scalp and the hair loss.

ive done a lot of research about the condition on the net from reliabes sources such as the NHS WEBSITE ECT. if you have any questions let me know.

check this link out. this is the condition which i probably have as it matches all my symptoms.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seborrhoeic_dermatitis

so to summarise. do the following.

    1) WASH YOU HAIR EVERYDAY OR EVERY ALTERNATE DAY WITH HEAD AND SHOULDERS BUT I WOULD SAY EVERYDAY.

    2) DONT DRINK SUGARY FIZZY DRINKS LIKE COKE ECT AS THIS MAKES THE CONDITION WORSE. I KNOW THIS FROM EXPERIENCE.

    3) DONT PUT ANY HAIR SPRAYS, GELS IN YOUR HAIR AS THIS WILL MAKE YOUR CONDITION WORSE AND MAKE YOU SCALP ITCH MORE.

    4) TRY TO DRINK ALOT OF WATER IE THE RECOMMENDED DAILY AMOUNT

  9. im not sure if this topics been doen before. but i was hinking of using my family name becuase its more personal. ie if you had a family name it would be more distinctive then say Singh.

most people these days use their family names. so i was wondering is it right that we might all use them. seeing as most people do.

  10. i think this is what happenes when these days. girls are trying to be slutier then each other . its like a competion. they think if they dress like this then theyll get attention.

i think girls are changing. they are doing worse stuff then some boys would do. the only way to combat it. is bring them up better. parents shouldnt allow them to dress like that. they shound know their bounderies at a young age.

not like muslims though. who beat their own daughter up for the slightest thing.

Sangat Jio, when i frist came onto this forum, i came looking for guidence and to find good sangat and at first i did get that..............

Now all im seeing is post about meaningful things being turned into aggressive, and stupid slanging matches..............the posts that are meaningful are ignored and turned into something that is not relevent................

u know i told a friend of mine to join SS and she sed "if i want a afternoon of bikkering i get that at home as it is" we are making a mockery of the term "SANGAT" we are supposed to be there to give guidence and advice to our fellow brothers and sisters not trying prove that SOMEONE IS RIGHT OR WRONG.

Our guru's make so much reference to SANGAT and how through them we abtain spiritual wisdom etc etc.....................how many of u guys have actually obtianed that when all we seem to do is bikker amongst eacher other..................

SIKHI IS A WAY OF LIFE and its about time we started practising what we preach

SO PLZ next time sangant joi posts think about what ur saying and dont post if it baers no relevence the thread itself......................

    bhul chuck maafi

exactly. i think most of the fights on here are pointless. we Sikhs need to stick together not fight each other.

  12. theres been quite a few topics of conversions ect. but theres a Sikh male at uni that is being pressurised to convert to islam. he's a outgoing, mona boy and somehow he's been mixing with a group of extremist at uni.

i saw him a couple of times in the Gurdwara on Vaishaki. but he told me not to tell the group of muslims that are trying to convert him. as they dont want him to go to the Gurdwara.

im not sure how to advise him or what to do.

Thats the first step. Now you know then please get help for him Get in touch with http://www.sasorg.co.uk/about.html

    and

also let the Uni officials know of whats happening.

'Gather' around him with all the support you can get and HELP him. He has made the first move for help so lets help him.

thanks for the link ill let him know about it. yep ive said to him that he can hang around with us ect. and if he needs to talk we are always here for him.

  13. Big_Tera i was a student of q.mary. pls pls try to make him attend the Sikh society there. i know the people at the Sikh society there quite well, there someone called kuldip, pls do talk to him if u need any knowledge on sikhi.

if u know this boy quite well, pls pm me, as i will personally make attempts to come down to help sort this problem out. im not sure what exactly to do, apart from educated this Sikh about sikhi and show him what our values are. i will bring some Sikhs with me who can explain what sikhi is...

pls do write a letter to as many universities as you can to make them aware of this problem, whether they do anything is up to them, but the exposure of this issue should

pls do write a letter to as many universities as you can to make them aware of this problem, whether they do anything is up to them, but the exposure of this issue should create ripples over all universities where most of this incidents emerge from.

I have spoken to members of the Sikh society and have been told that there funding is very limited compared to the Islamic societies. This is not a fair start to be begin with, through actions of the universities themselves.

Allot of these issues have been emerging for years and is becoming more and more worse. I have many topics of this, and where most Sikhs (NOT ALL) have simply encouraged other Sikhs brothers to look after their Sikh sisters, and educate them…

However I don’t think this has much of an impact, the impact which is should have. Our Sikh brothers and sisters are not totally stupid and are aware of these problems but would still continue, for example how many Sikhs boys have you’s seen that smoke and drink, yet when entering the Gurdwara, most do follow the values of sikhi and become one of the other Sikhs, in ways where one would maybe contribute to langar sava, and other ways, etc. my point is that although there are many people who know little about there religion; they would always defend their religion, BUT small minority of those people would actually practice their religion.

I had conducted various interviews with many people at q.mary and the results were staggering at how much knowledge people know. I can’t really post the full interviews conducted as of copyrights issues but I can certainly dig out a number of key parts from it.

I think we as Sikhs now need to hit the big people in the business, we can go on educated our brothers and sisters, yet other muslims will still go on converting them unless bigger organisations are notified of them. I think we should notify as many universities about these issues and make sure they are aware of these issues, maybe they can also set-up some sort of services and take action against these issues. The more people that do this, the bigger the impact it should have. The Sikh societies should also be contacted, but pls do send out the letters directly to the principles of the universities so that these issues do not get swept under the carpets.

I had emailed over 20 different Sikh societies from universities and all the ones on the BOSS website to gather knowledge on sikhi, and unfortunately only about 3 replied until this day. The members of the Sikh societies themselves can also cause problems, especially ones that I have attend where they unable to provide the right knowledge to the students. There is also the problem that these students main objective is the pass their courses which can interfere with the Sikh societies; for this reason I think it would be best to mainly contact the principles of the universities.

Back to the topic of the Sikh boy,, maybe this Sikh should be taken to a Gurdwara to make him aware of how us Sikhs live together as a community, although every Gurdwara is equal in its same way, I did personally find that some have a greater impact on me at first ie something like Harmandir Sahib or Havelock Road Gurdwara in southall though later in life they all had the same impact on me.

I have gone through many of these converting islam situations, and many are shown on you tube website; and of these there is a common occurrence of issues that take place.

    1. Through love relationships - mainly directed at girls;

    2. Lack of own-religion knowledge;

    3. Low periods in peoples likes where they are looking for a change.

Of all of these, most of these people have had muslims friends present to take action to aid them into islam. I feel the same can be done if people were exposed to sikhi in the same instance.

In some incidents Sikhs have been advised to knock on peoples doors to educate them about sikhi; in my area, no one would want to know, people who have faiths of different religions are not interested and would simply lock these views out their minds. But if people were to read of these, ie common issues at universities; in the news; magazines; people would read FOR THEMSELVES, where there would be no pressure put on them to understand the values of sikhi, so long as the values are expressed within boundaries of fairness to all religions, or testimonies are provided which can be referred to further sources.

Im not sure fully sure of the legalities of this, so don’t quote me on this, but on tubes and buses there are many people that I have found who would read anything there is on their travels, whether is tv guides or sill insurance leaflets, anything that would occupy them. In the same way, I think this is one way that leaflets could be exposed explained as a overview of sikhi.

I do not want to cause a stir of outcry or injust motives, but I do feel people should try to generate ideas and post them on how Sikhs can tackle this problem worldwide, because in generations to come, it will be our children who will suffer after we depart from this world. Little and little knowledge is carried down through some families, and so parents are unable to educate their young ones; and when this happens, someone else will be waiting to take that role and guide them in another direction.

Im sorry if I have offended anyone, but thank you for taking the time to read my reply.

thanks. ive heard of kuldip. i havent been to the Sikh society but i will tell him to go. he does go to the punjabi society though. im goi9ng to help him as much as possible.
