  1. This forum is more of a bickering contest. This question is so irrelevant, it doesnt even require a topic, but you probably done that because its easier than reading a book and finidng out for yourself. Most certified books state quite clearly that the 5 chosen ones (pan j piaray) were not selectred they volunteered! Ive said my piece and il do ardas for you

  2. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ke fateh!!

I dont understand why this topic hasnt had many replies. Anyway i have done some of my own research and found this, (below) I think its a very interesting question and i for one would like to see the articles of mr cole reappear, perhaps there is someway to trace his family tree and ask relatives or summit, just a thot.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ke fateh

17 08 AD - One of the most notable incidents involving archery in Sikh history relates to the death of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Guru and a co-founder of the Sikh religion. In 1708, 2 Pathan assassins attempted to kill him. One stabbed him in the chest, but the Guru responded with his sword and beheaded the attacker. The other Pathan was dealt with by the Guru's guards. The Guru's wounds were tended to by a Dr . Cole, I believe. Now, around this time, Guru Gobind Singh Ji had received a gift of a new, powerful bow. While his wounds were healing, he could not resist the temptation of trying the new bow out. Sadly, drawing the bow re-opened his chest wound and it began bleeding profusely. As a result, he died in October 1708, but by then the Sikh faith was well established.

Sikhs were known to hunt game for sport and as a means of sharpening their martial skills .

It is evident from historical records and paintings, that short recurve bows were used, probably shot using a thumb ring.

(This article was kindly supplied by Harjinder S. Obhi of London, England.)

    Here is a thought.

1708 Nanded, the stitches in Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s wound on the side of His abdomen re-opened and started to bleed. An English doctor in the employment of Bahadur Shah, Dr Cole was sent for.

Dr Cole came and redressed the wound. He tended to Guru Sahib Ji and stayed at Nanded for a number of days. Once he thought the wound was healing he took his leave. Upon his departure Guru Sahib Ji gave him a ‘dushalla’ like an embroided shawl, 500Rs and blessed him.

This Dr Cole must have been such a lucky and blessed soul to have met Guru Maharaj Ji, maybe without even knowing in whose presence he was in.

How lucky he must have been to actually touch Guru Ji !

Maybe his janam/maran were cut due to his sewa of Guru Sahib Ji without even knowing it.

Maybe he conversed with Guru Ji , it is so intriguing !

As we know the British were meticulous record keepers, and especially a Doctor who would keep medical records on his patients. Wouldn’t it be amazing if some where, some place there lays a dusty old note book with notes about Guru Maharaj Ji.

Maybe it describes Guru Ji, notes of the wound, maybe of Guru Jis darbar and Singhs, maybe even a sketch !!!

I have scoured the internet of a Dr Cole in the British Empire who may have been in the employment of Bahadur Shah around 1708 but got nothing. I think a few other people, with a lot more knowledge about these things then me, have looked though old records in libraries and museums have found nothing. But I still feel there is information out there that needs some tenacious person to find.

Come on guys, lets put our heads together, any ideas ?

  3. ooops, looks like i provoked an argument. What im trying to say is:

at a vaisakhi religious prog there should be maximum sikhi parchar.definitely no meat, no alcohol, no bhangra.if these kind of mele exist, then fair enough.

types that do exist- for example i once went to vasakhi in the sq at trafalgar sq. the first couple of hrs were fine-kirtan, katha etc.(out of about 6 hrs they gave bout 2 to religious stuff)

then afterwards it was just basically a gig. People were blatently not there for the religious aspect, they were there to get drunk and mess about with the opposite sex, i know this cos i met some mates (gals and boys) and they admitted this to me and they were proud to be doing it.(i know i got some messed up mates, but they still my bro's n sis's, and hopefully 1day maharaj will do kirpa).I don't agree with the taleban jibe cos sikhi is an open, interfaith, respectful religion, i just wish people would stop using the religion for their own means. I agree with 1 earlier brother that mele can educate, but im sorry most mele i bin to don't have langar, don't have anything on 84 and the closest they have to sikhi is the dtf stall!! maybe im going to the wrong parks!!

if you took guru ji, what would they think of their sikhs at these mele?? on a earlier thread it was discussed about guru ji punishing masands for looting sikhs, these mele committees are doin the same, i hear they charge loads for stalls.

A personally think the only reason we celebrate vasakhi is because the amrit sanchar was done then.so plaese don't use the cultural/harvest ploy.

    apologies again if i've offended.

    wjkk wjkf

TEchnically speaking, vasakhi was set up by guru ram dass ji, this was done to give sikhs a structure and a date where we can celebrate together, in unity. It just happened to be that amrit was at the same date later on.

  4. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ke fateh

After the recent distubances in the midlands, and the subsequent cancellation of wolves mela. I was hoping the rest of the British sikh sangat would follow suit and ban mela. But here we go again theres a vaisakhi mela happening this sunday in Plumstead, south east london. These mela are not religiously based, but yet they take the name of 'vaisakhi', i know what some of you are thinking - vaisakhi relates to culture! I'm sorry to disagree, culture may have a very small bearing. But the main reason vaisakhi is celebrated is because Guru Ji gave Amrit. the cultural side of vaisakhi wouldn't even be blinked at in this country. Just look at Hola mohalla, its hardly celebrated here. So these mele are just money making idea's for the committees, a place to get drunk and eye up and mix with the opposite sex. Sorry but i don't like the word vaisakhi related to these anti-sikh activities.

    sorry if i've offended any1.

I think the day we stop pointing fingers and say look at them they are distorting sikhi! Take the time to think about it, simply because we recognise that they arent doing sikhi related things doesnt mean we take to arms and bring a huge argument. Instead of going online and arguing about it, why not think of, devise a plan on how to increase religious activities to carry out on vasakhi. Instead of just sitting idle at least that way we have a way of physically combatting against it. Hmm what do i mean? Well what do mela ppl do to change pps attitude of sikhi. THey know people like bhangra, how? because its on tv 24/7. So we should really be researching what is it that makes people like sikhi. Find that out you have half the battle. Personally i think the best way to combat it is to firstly set up a good communication link, preferably phone numbers or emails. Once a simple, effective link is established you can hold a keertan session anywhere anyplace, especially in england where there is an abundance of gurdwaras. Arrange older youth to set young kids challenges, a colouiring in book full of sikh warriors and sikh articles. Best drawing wins etc. Sikhi related quizez. Advanced youth could even have sikhudo (sukudo), this would entail sikh numbers. Older youth could be quized on things like name the las 5 jathedars etc etc. Rather than go to melas and cause havoc, instead of looking at other peoples negative aspects we should aspire to make a positive trend. We look at so much negativity that it rubs off and even gursikhs get entangled in this negative vibe. Take this topic for example. So stay in chardi kala, lets make a change rather than ask people to change.

P.s. I hope none of that sounded too violent and no one takes a sword and chases me around the screen (lol)

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ke fateh

  5. People listening to hip hop should be shot!!!

Calm down people its a joke, thought id say at as this all everyone will slowly lead the topic to. Personally i used to listen to it....now ii prefer not to. Yes i respect tupac shakur for what he done, he madee hip hop a platform to show a violation of human rights, similar to how bahagat singh used bhangra stages and pamplets and the jail to show the world a violation of human rights. Now what we have is singhs that enjoy keertan which is a good thing, so those that like keertan why not smile and just say chalo your choice rather than argue to the max. Yes i like keertan but at the same time if u like hip hop then that makes u different and it effects me not a jot, its your choice and eveyone is not the same, remember waheguru made us all different

Can i start wif LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL at the name of this topic. Whats its purpose?

We start every topic complaining about the amount of nindya done online. Yet to solve that we dont try and post somthing truly inspiraitional instead waste all day thinking of a new away to irk "daas"

This topic is a form of nindya abt others, if not nindya then it will be used to praise those that successfully manage to do nindiya of others. either way both will not serve tyou well....id like the original poster to think about this deeply. It is talking about sum1 you dont knwo personnally and spreading untrue rumours about them bcoz you are protected by a pc sscreen. There is no difference between the nindya u do here and nindya you do in the form of a chuglee. I wud like to ask have you ever even ehard the story from the other side of the argument?

  8. With all due respect techno singh, its a sikhs duty to defend their right. Hard kaur has not in any way tested that right. Im sorry if it doesnt sound like the reply you wre expecting but in my opinion we should raise to self defence. In the case of hard kaur, what is their in a name? Waheguru gives us our names, and it is in his will wether that person will be a shining example...in a few years another singer wil crop up and we wil forget about this hard kaur...but in the case of gursikhs with chardi kala jeevans i.e. banda singh bahadur ji...baba deep singh ji...baba fateh singh ji..baba jujhar singh ji...baba zorawar singh ji...baba ajit singh ji...even mentioning these handful of sikhs from our history we can visually there whole jeevan what they were about and what they beleived in...with hard kaur we only see the present. Its just a fad...itl pass and we will probably find a new singer to vent our anger on...we let off alot fo anger and yet in theory none of this can be said to the person direct which would probably be much prefered. This isnt a hate post just passing on my opinions...bhul chuk maf karnee.

  9. Both of youse, who cares wether she raps or not, the majority reckon shes an <banned word filter activated>, the minority adore her. Big difference in opinions, agree to disagree already. It isnt going to help us in our next lives and its just a singer there are bigger issues we can worry about. If its worrying we want

  10. Why not ask the local gianni to teach you santhia, failing that your best bet, free of any predjudice is to take a long vacation at the akal takht or dam dami taksal, i know many gursikhs personally that have went there and brushed up on their santhia that they know bani off by heart and when you meet them they are always a pleasure to talk to and there are no signs of bitterness to anyone, always asks for kirpa.

I would say its your own choice, provided you have it set in your mind that you wish to learn how to read our bani then i think even guru ji doing kirpa on your efforts will give enough time that ypou accokmplish this. However to do this, there is no wrong way. If you are reading it, then i suggest switch on the ipod, mp3, radio, onl;ine radio, skyradio anything to help with pronunication and that way, you build up speed too.

  11. How can this be racism? Sikhs doesnt mean race! Man us Sikhs are dumb theses days. The video is right.

They are many races who are Sikh.

are you stupid????????? we sikhs are a seperate race as defined by British Law like it or not, dont the words 'pussies' and chikens', offend you - i dnt even knw why o bother to put it up on this <admin-profanity filter activated> a5s forum nobody cares

Listen buddy click on this calgary persons name and watch all 3 videos, then tell me, if you werent sikh, would or wouldnt you b reeeled in to thinking it was all facts being stated. His videos are only based on sikhs, clearly someones trying to stitch the community up, but instead of flagging this video we sit on here and discuss its prospects.

  12. I think gurmukhs are rare to find, they are compassionate people they have piaar for all, quite often some people have differences with elders, or youngsters and after that if they ever meet they wont try and pick the good parts out they will always feel remorse and guilt one or the other about the specific differences very rarely do they look past it and accept that they agrree to disagree. This is where the gurmukh is different they will smile and carry on their daily routine, it makes no effect on them whatsover about anyones opinion or viewpoint. However guru ji did not just instruct them to ignore these people but stand up when needed, not sit quietly while someone is preparing to attack you or is going to attempt to, not to stand and watch clowns do inadequate acts in around any aspect of sikhi. Even then they will only seek to correct the person or solve the problem they shall not seek revenge.

But thanks alot for raising this interesting point, i wonder how many ppl will actually reply to this,.

  13. I reckon the whole thing is made up. In order to kik start a new topic that us moorakhs use as another "unique" opportunity to sling slander at one another.

ah will you stop moaning..in everytopis theres sum1 who sez dat the poster has other reasoning behind their topic. have some respect for the originall poster.

but to answer the question i have never felt guilty to the point of killing myself...its not my choice when i die.only one chooses when i die. and ive never met a person in sikh comunity who thinks like that.

    hope it helps

Shut up you tutoo, my previous posts towards you have been pretty polite but oyu had better watch your posts. SIkh Sangat...hence we dont try and make a huge hoo and commit suicide its almost considered a kuret as you have no right taking even yoru own life as it was given to you on loan by guru ji. N Corrrect me if im wrong but have a look at my posts youll find ive not really complained but merely suggested. And i dont have to do what you instruct me to do "quit ,moaning"..as if.

If i said quit giving me the 'attitude' will you stop?...no...yes?

Could someone please please direct me to the question this dholi geeza speaks of.
