Sangat jio, i think 'idontknow' bhainji was just trying to get our input in HOW TO approach her parents. I have spoken to her for a short time on msn and she has said that she has been amritdhari for a while, but was forced. LIke her parents and family were and they all said you should too .. so she did it and BUT she said she liked it for a while, and not too long. She found christianity better in terms of teachings and what jesus had to offer...

I dont know if she will be coming back to check these posts, but we tried our best to encourage bhainji what sikhi had to offer and what she would miss...

I would encourage everyone... who does plan to take amrit.. please dont take it as a joke that whenever we can take and we can break it whenever we want. In her case she was forced so i dont know if she should be blamed. But its still wrong...

Anyway sangat .. sorry if i said anythin wrong... my blessings and best wishes to bhainji and her whatever her decision mite be... :@

    bhul chuk maph!

  2. "idontknow" jee, welcome to sikhsangat
God loved us so much to send his son to die for our sins
if i m not wrong, didn't jesus cry out "oh lord why have u forsaken me?" when he was being crucified? and what did Guru Arjan Dev Jee say while sitting on a hot plate with hot sand being poured on his head? He said "Your Will seems so sweet to me! Nanak begs for the gift of your Name!" You say jesus died for our sins, look at Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee who sacrificed His life for a totally different religion (i.e Hinduism) which was not even in accordance with the beliefs of Sikhi, why? coz He believed in freedom of religion! Jesus said "those who pick up the sword die by the sword", and Guru Gobind Singh Jee, who fought for the rights of all people who were suffering injustices said "When all ways of correcting an evil have failed, its justified to unsheath the sword".

    more from http://www.sikhs.org/relig_se.htm

Sikhism believes anyone can achieve salvation irrespective of the religion that they follow if they endear God in their heart and daily actions.

Christian concept of Jesus as son of God. Sikhism regards all as the children of God.

In Sikhism child baptism into the Khalsa brotherhood is discouraged. One should only become a Khalsa when they are able to fully understand the duties and responsibilities.

There is no special day like Sunday or Sabbath for worship.

Heaven and Hell as physical entities. In Sikhism there are no such physical places. Hell is equivalent to the cycles of births and deaths and heaven is equivalent to the soul merging with God.

Guru Gobind Singh abolished the priestly class making Sikhism free from their weaknesses and egos, the only priest is the Living Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib which contains all the knowledge and which is available for reading by any Sikh.

Hmmmm somehow i didnt catch Rochak jis amazing post in between. Veerji i was thinking about this too... but i didnt know HOW TO say it .. cuz i didnt know the exact words that Jesus had said....

    THIS IS SOO TRUE!!! ^_^

  4. HI

im new here and i have quite a large dilemma

for the past 3 or 4 years i have ive wanted to convert to christianity, and my folks are hardcore sikhs (well not that hardcore) i dont know why i dont feel right practicing sikhism and why lutheranism feels so right for me. i know that i want to take some things with me from sikhism like being a vegertarian, actually im a vegan. Some of the things that attract me to christianity is the universal message that God loved us so much to send his son to die for our sins, and that there is life after death. I find the whole concept of reincarnation a little bit hard to swallow. I posted this message because i wanted to see what people thought, and if they accepted it. I know this will be a huge help when God gives me the courage to face my parents and i will have some idea of how they will react.

    Thanks so much

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fatehh

Hi singh, i will try to help you as best as i can.

Its great you want to follow a religion, while some people dont even want anythin to do with god as some (atheist) think there is no god. But im bowing down to you as your following a approach to link with guru ji.. ^_^

As you said your a sikh and your parents are following it. Is there some reasons why you want to leave sikhi and go into christianity?

Your saying jesus has came and sacrificed his life. I bow down to that as he was awesome. You probably have seen passion of christ and i was truly emotional form that... but what about...

Guru Arjun dev ji giving his life to sikhi, and chanting only gurus name... he was not afriad.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji giving his sees to keep the hindu faith alive... did he have no heartt...

Guru gobind Singh ji giving not only his OWN life, but his fathers, his 4 sons, his mother... and all his sons thereafter... banda singh bahadur, bhai taru singh, bhai mani singh, baba deep singh... did they all have no heart...

I just dont get one thing... please dont take it offensive. Millions follow christianity because of one trule great man. But even less want to truly follow sikhi not cuz of one person BUT MANY THOUSANDS OF SHAHEEDS.

God sent jesus to die for our sins. Why were our gurus and many shaheeds sent then ????

You reep what you sow. Isnt that what christianity believes too, if im not mistaken? Why do we always want to have the easy way out. So we can do all the sins and through christianity we can still be saved... just because its easier and so on...

WHY THOUGH !?!?! i had no idea of sikhi 2 years ago ... but it breaks my heart now to see people converting... some say we get so happy when others convert into sikhi I DONT... its best for ppl to stay in their own faith and religion as GURU JI put us in that way.

Please singh... i would really encourage you to think about your choice and listen to what others, elders have to say and even chardi kala singhs (not me!) on this forum have to say ...

    hope for your best :@

r>im sorry if i said anythin wrong... i do get very emotional :@

    bhul chuk maph!

  5. i have to agree with khalistani and singhstah both

i think that both are right

it's great that you do seva with pyaar

    but rehit is also pyaar

i should do more seva but also work on my rehit

    wjkk wjkf

But one does not learn the rehit if one does not have pyaar rite. If an ignorant person like me, who does not know of rehat or anythin but just wants to do seva out of pyaar, he/she should be allowed... out of this one would learn and continue to do seva and further may become somethin on the lines of guru ji :@

It is not good to discourage anyone .. im not saying u or anyone on this forum is.. but i have seen many cases that ppl put others down for similar reasons... would guru ji say no ???

    bhul chuk maph!

  6. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fatehhh!!!

Just wanted to say... after going today to sacha sauda in brampton, the arrival of guru jis saroops (150) came today from amritsar to toronto, and guru ji was properly brought to the store where hundreds of singhs/singhnees were waiting to get laha

I am greatly thankful for all the sevadars that took part in this to make it happen. WHAT A GREAT SEVA!!! Also whoever made it today, (sunday, well yesterday now rolleyes.gif ), please give ur feedback.

LOL.. there was nowhere to stand... ALL MEDIA was there. Reporter pulled me over got soooo nervous :@

It was great to see another day where like basakhi and kirtan darbars, hundreds of sikhs are together in unity.... i reli hope we can have these kind and spread the word of guru ji. It was really well done and organized, hands down to the sevadars once again! ^_^

    bhul chuk maph! ^_^

  7. cmonn, if all the SSAs did this, it would raise more awareness than just a few SSAs. All of the universities listed right now are AMERICAN. We need some awareness up here in canada...

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fatehh!

Wat a great idea. Bhainji can you please get back to me about more details...

    Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fatehh

Jio, its not whether to drink milk or not.... its whether miling a cow is hurting or not... like forced! That is what daljeet tried to say. India they manually milk a cow... well in the pind :@ Here they use forcible machines... but i still drink milk ... milk is energy love it... i actually drink more milk then anythin like when im thirsty no water but straight milk.

And thanks all for great responses to this post. I use to eat a lot of meat before ... like breakfast, snacks, dinner, lunch ... EVERYTHIN ... meat meat meat... now for 2 years ... strict vege. I read all labels and try to stay away from gelatin and rennet guru kirpa naal. :@

  12. i agree with R. Bhaenjee  :)

    then

i also agree with Mkhalsa.. that every relation in this world is the distraction to human who want to attain akal purakh.. But there are ways to work it out if both person are going in hands.. (meaning not doing manmat things with each other).. Other than that there is nothing wrong with any relationship :@

    i agree as well

    LOL >>>> ME 3!! :@

  13. ok, basically what everyone said are all good suggestions:

start going to gym and work out and get buff (if you don't already do that) :@

don't give them chance to say you are not physically fit!

start thinking like an army guy when they ask you questions like what Gupt Singhni ji said. Keep in mind that army is for the tough ppl, they don't want touchy feely emotional ppl, you gotta be able to kill w/out thinking about what will happen to the family, etc. So fashion answers to what army generals whoever are looking for.

    what else :T:

GURU JIII!!!!!! AND HIS BANIII!!!!!! :@ HAVE IT 24/7 WIT U ... U FORGOT THAT :)

  14. Someone once explained it to me like this....

Until you take amrit, your simran and your reciting of baani is still good. You are most definitely helping yourself, but to consider it like this:

You're saving money for years and years, and keeping it in your room. Sure, you're saving money, and that's helping, but taking amrit is like putting that money in the bank. You're getting SO MUCH MORE out of it, once it's in the bank, just as you'd be getting so much more out of simran once you're amritdhari.

I think those that say that only an amritdhari can do simran is a crackhead... honestly, go take more drugs, cuz SOMETHIGN has to clear up that misconception... that's just not right... simran will always ahve an effect on you: e.g a story:

There's this teenager in sangat. Doesn't really enjoy it, doesn't have any knowledge of punjabi/gurmukhi. He seeks the advice of an uncle that he trusts and he tells him: Uncle ji, no matter what i do, i don't understand punjabi. It just seems useless to me to be sitting inside the darbar when i can't understand what is being sung. What good is it to me? Is it even worth it for me?

The Uncle takes the kid into the kitchen area and takes a strainer. He says: "watch this beta". He turns the water on, and leaves the strainer there. 1 minute goes by... then 2.. then 3. By now the kid's wondering, like, what IS this

guy doin!? so he asks the Uncle Ji "uncle, what are you doin", and the uncle replies "look at the strainer. It was dirty before, and then i put it under the water. Now look at it!" Sure enough, the strainer was sparkling clean. The Uncle continues: "See beta, it doesn't amtter that the strainer wasn't grasping or keeping any of the water. Look, even though it was just in the presence of water, it was still being cleaned, despite the fact that it wasn't holding on to any of it! The strainer is you!! the water represents Shabad, Baani, Naam! It doesn't matter that you don't understand it, but just being in its PRESENCE, you're being washed! That is the power of Naam!"

So to say that naam has no effect.... brutally brutallly wrong
