  1. There was once a man who was a devoted disciple of a holy man. He served this holy man well, after serving the holy man he would go for long walks in the beautiful countryside and he would get so much pleasure from doing so.

One day after serving his master, he decided to go for a walk using a different route. While on this new route he came across a town. He thought to himself "this looks like an interesting place," he proceeded to walk through the town. As he went through this town he saw things that he had never seen before.

He saw luxurious clothing and furniture, he smelt foods that he had never smelt before, he saw priceless jewelry that shone like the stars. He also saw beautiful women that were dressed in fine clothing, they were very friendly towards him. He was amazed by what he saw and he also liked what he saw. Eventually, he passed the town and proceeded to find his master, all the while he was thinking about what he had seen. A strange feeling of guilt came over him.

Upon reaching his masters house, he ran up to him and told him what he had seen, he said that he was feeling guilty that he found these things pleasurable, but at the same time he couldn''t stop thinking about them. He asked his master what he should do.

The master said "I want you to go through this town again, but this time I want you to take this candle. I want you to walk through this town with this candle without spilling one drop of wax onto the floor. If you spill one drop, my servant here (he pointed to a big man holding a long sharp, sword) will chop your head off!! Now go!"

He obeyed his master and set off. He got to the town and proceeded to walk through holding the candle, the big man was right behind him watching his every move. The servant walked through the whole of the town careful not to spill a drop. He successfully completed his mission, he did not spill a drop. He went back to his master and told him the news.

The master said, "WELL?" The servant replied "Master, I did not spill a drop!"

The master said, "As you walked through the town, did you see what you saw before?"

The servant replied "No master, I was too worried about my life, if my sight wondered from the candle I would have spilt a drop and he would have chopped my head off!!"

The master smiled and said to his disciple...

"This is how you should live your life my friend, Death is following you around wherever you go, it is easy to forget and get distracted, as soon as you forget- you could be dead!! That candle is your focus, if you focus in life then death cannot harm you. Realise this my child and you will have the key to immortality."

The servant realised the lesson he had just learnt and broke down in tears, ever grateful to his master for showing him the way out of distraction...point is focus ur mind on Waheguru

  3. Reading posts over the past few weeks, when someone has a problem e.g. I’ve got family trouble, I feel depressed, I like this girl/boy what should I do. I agree coming to this forum is a good thing to do as you’d get a un biased view as in the main nobody knows who you are so generally there are no prejudices directing their views as maybe a family member or a friend may give. But generally apart from the odd few who give good advice the general replies consist of naam jaapo. Naam jaap is a fantastic thing to do but (and this is my point) it does not solve your problems, it helps you forget your problems and therein lies the problem. Waheguru gave us the ability to solve our own problems and gave us the tools to deal with life on a day-to-day basis but we (that’s me as well) seem to take it all for grated. We always seem to look to Waheguru to solve our problems, “If I do an ardaas my problems will be sorted”, “ If I get a hukamnama that’ll sort everything”, Waheguru is there to guide us not to sort everything out for us. If Waheguru didn’t want us to solve our own problems we wouldn’t have any problems to solve. These are just my thoughts and if it offends any body I apologise. What are your thoughts on this?

    sangat jee

i do not think that raja ranjit singh and shaheed udham singh are sikhs because it is apparent in history that raja ranjit singh was not even close to what a sikh is. ranjit singh indulged himself in many acts which are against gurmat and he was even given tankha for this. Akali Phoola Singh jee had exiled him from the panth for sleeping with multiple women. and shaheed udam singh was also kicked out of the panth for being a atheist and aslo cutting his hair. yes in the few months before his hanging by meeting with bhai sahib bhai randhir singh jee he vowed to try and come back to the sikh fold and he was trying to become a sikh but neither can be called sikhs.

in gurbani it clearly states that in order to call your self sikh you have to have amrit

gur satgur ka jo sikh akhai so bhalke utth har nam dhiyavai

udham karai bhalke parbhati isnaan karai amrit sar navai

wat does it mean to amrit sar navai. it means to relive your amrit sanchaar every day. now if you have never taken amrit how would you relive that experience.

Me thinks you've got your Uddam Singh & your Bhagat Singh mixed up. C'mon get it right!

  5. Now I may have faith to make mountains fall

But if I lack love then I have nothing at all

I can give away everything I possess

But am without love then I have no happiness

I know I’m imperfect and not without sin

But now that I’m older all childish things end.

  10. Theres an interesting looking programme on tonight (uk ch 4 2100h) its called,

    Partition

The Last Days of the Raj

This year marks the 60th anniversary since India gained independence and this 90-minute drama-documentary, filmed entirely on location in India, charts the events of six traumatic months in 1947 which saw the end of the British Raj in India.

    Might be wirth a watch.

  11. I don't think the problem is the content, its the fact they need to parade converts around the country like some circus freaks.

Nobody else seems to do this, people convert from religion to religion all the time but why do we only hear when somebody converts to Islam??????????!!!!!!!!!

A reaction is what they want negative or not.

  12. With reference to the article below published in last weeks Eastern Eye. The article is typical Asian media sensationalisation. The article was not balanced and has levelled criticism at Sikhs and Muslims, where the two groups, should have been given an opportunity to comment on the allegations made against them. It would be interesting to know of the examples of supposed Sikh attacks on the Hindus in the UK and what the basis of the assumption is!

    Quote from article.

'Heena Patel, spokeswoman for Shakti Marg, said: “The police do nothing to help us with cases where Sikh extremists attack Hindus or when Islamic groups try to forcibly convert some students. As long as Hindus don’t feel protected, they will have to protect themselves'

Hindu body to focus on hate crimes, 16.2.07

Hindus are to arrange their own security body to get their fears about racism on to the race agenda.

The Hindu Forum of Britain will stage its first-ever security conference in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police, in London, on Wednesday (21). The aim is to push the police into doing more to tackle race hate crime against Hindus living in Britain.

Religious race hate crimes against Asians rose six-fold in the aftermath of the July 7 bombings in 2005. One of the key issues to be discussed would be the need to record separate figures for attacks on Hindus to determine the extent of the problem within the community.

The conference is a further sign that some Hindus think that Muslim needs are addressed in priority over theirs, even though both groups are suffering a rise in racism since the bombings. The launch later this year of the Muslim Defence League, which celebrity supporters promise will be more aggressive in its lobbying of politicians and the police, will add to this feeling.

Sanjay Mistry, a spokesman for HFB, said: “The meeting at the London School of Economics is aimed at addressing the very little information on Hindus out there, which has resulted in hate crimes against them. A lot of issues of terrorism and race hate affect the youth and we felt it was important to encourage greater interaction between them and the police.” Some of the other issues to be discussed will include radicalisation and personal security.

Speakers at the conference include Sir Ian Blair, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Tony McNulty, Home Office minister for security and policing, and representatives of faith communities and the criminal justice system.

The conference will lead to the setting up of a number of working groups to examine and offer solutions to the issues identified during the event. The conference has irritated other Hindu groups such as Hindu Human Rights (HHR) and Shakti Marg.

Arjun Malik, HHR spokesman, said: “We are actually very surprised that we have not been invited or even been told about this conference. It is to discuss issues affecting Hindu youths and we actually do a lot of work in that field. We are a bit more experienced when it comes to dealing with student issues.

“A lot of youths already do not trust the police. They feel like the government is not engaging them enough, compared to other religious groups. Hindus seem to be mainly represented by middle class businessmen and people of our parents’s generation. Younger Hindus are feeling more isolated. If they continue to feel threatened and unprotected they may be forced to turn towards extremism.”

Heena Patel, spokeswoman for Shakti Marg, said: “The police do nothing to help us with cases where Sikh extremists attack Hindus or when Islamic groups try to forcibly convert some students. As long as Hindus don’t feel protected, they will have to protect themselves.”

What a load of complete <admin-cut>!!!

  13. ^ we kinda give a small bow to each other when we say our fateh....welll, i guess i sort of do,

    JAH BLESS!

    You think?

I can recount countless times when Singhs have walked straight past me along the road without even offereing a fateh etc...

In my own personal experience I've always found that Singhs have always given the 'nod' when seeing them on my travels. My none keshdhari friends in fact always say that Singhs never nod at them but always 'nod' at me, the answer I always give is, 'its a Singh Thing'. :e:
