  1. hmmm when guru nanak dev ji travelled to different places like china, italy how did he communicate with people?

It's one thing explaining something in another language, like we do here, but Guru Granth Sahib Ji cannot be changed. It's ok to have booklets or Gutkey but the form of Guru Sahib should remain unchanged to give future generations the chance to view for themselves the EXACT Bani Guru Sahib revealed.

One thing iv never understood is that when people say guru sahib should not be translated into other languages is that if what they say is true shouldnt we have the sanskriti parts of guru sahib in sanskrit the hindi parks it hindi and the gurmukhi parts in gurmukhi? if you say that we should keep it the way guru sahib wrote it then having guru sahib all in gurmukhi is rong too then? umm i onno thats just iv wondered its not even my whole opinion, please somone clearify?

Guru Sahib wrote the different languages in Gurmukhi script!! Transliteration is NOT translation.

We are lucky that Guru Sahib has been unchanged since Guru Gobind Singh Ji dictated the final version. Guru Sahib is our living Guru, not a book of songs. Those words are straight from Sach Khand and we cannot change them.

You only have to look at how many different English translations there are to see that it is impossible to accurately translate Gurbani.

thanks for clearing that up:) haha i feel stupid:P

  4. i know there is a topic about hindusikh so i went on it and found it disgusting. there are a few (2) people that are on the site that do encourage the truth but 2 people arent enough, i want too have this site shut down but i dont no how? or even if its possible. i think that as many people as possible should join this site and defend the truth as they are saying rediculous things about the panth as shiv made the kakkars and inspired desmesh pita too make them mandatory kakkars for the panth.

    thank you

  7. I think we should try to only be friends with singhs. Im not saying we shouldnt be friends with muslims hindus or christians im saying we shouldn't be friends with people that go against guru sahibs hukam! i no from person experience that having bad sangat at school or anywhere makes ur life in sikhi much harder. we should only be doing our dunyavi kam " worldy affairs" with them and we should keep that to a minimum like saying hi, talking for school or if we need to no something etc.

  8. i think heera singh put it very nicely...

by the way...Techno Singh....it is useless and i would even venture to say outright WRONG to post ilahi, sachkhandi bani in order to prove some point (which you don't really have) without doing vichar of the bani to show how it actually is relevant...

the bani you have posted nowhere says it is wrong to wear jewellery...it is saying it is ALL useless IF the seed of naam doesn't not inhibit the body....without Naam everything is useles...With naaam, everything becomes beautiful....

so jewellery or not...is a PERSONAL CHOICE....

people are saying that it's wrong because it's not needed.....that's a very very childish argument... wouldn't stand up in any court in any land....well maybe in india...where everything is corrupt anyway...

and to Akj_4eva_akj....to simply post and say "No cuz it's wrong" is a waste of your time and everyone else who had to read that post....a) because it was not a bright conclusion...b) you offered no giyaan from gurmat ithaas or gurbani to enlighten anyone...

i konw you can do better than that...invite you to post bani with some vichar that says you're not allowed to wear jewellery...

because it was not a bright conclusion...b) you offered no giyaan from gurmat ithaas or gurbani to enlighten anyone...

I thought it was outright WRONG to post gurbani in order to prove a point?

  9. I wanted to raise a point that it's very hard to find girls / women that like Sikh men with turbans and even harder to find someone who plans on taking Amrit.

As Sikh's we focus so much on boys / men that we sometimes forget about the girls / women and we don't instill the values of Sikhi within many. For some reason the pressure is only on Sikh boys / men to live up to the teachings of Sikhism, this is what i see in many Sikh communities and Gurudwara's.

This makes it so hard to find a partner, with the falling females birth rate to add to the issue i personally think Sikh boys / men in future will find this issue even harder.

We have to address these issues as girls / women are just as important as boys / men in Sikhi, and without them there will be no Sikhi in the future.

you are absolutely right about us focusing too much on boys/men and not worrying about the girls. even here i have noticed that a person who has cut his kesh is looked at differently but at the same time we seem to not worry about the girl that has cut her kesh. if a boy cuts his kesh the whole community talks about it but if a girl cuts her kesh no one seems to notice it.

one thing that i have also noticed is that when someone is giving a speech in gurudwara about the struggle faced by the sikhs and the importance of dastaar, i have never seen someone urging girls to keep kesh or wear a dastaar or for that matter telling them directly about the importance of kesh.

and on the issue of sikh men with dastaar finding it hard to find girls, brother you shouldnt worry about it, just become a true sikh and do your nitnem coz the issue can be solved once people realise the importance of teaching there daughters about sikhi. think.gif

    SO TRUE!

I barely ever see girls in bana. I mean i no allot of girls who wear dastaar but not many who wear dhumala and bana. allot of people say that for bibia its different, but i don't get how isn't there suppost to be total equality in singhs and singhnia? Im not sayings its the bibias fault. its the society, WHICH we shouldnt be even paying attention to!

  10. Raag kirtan is very important.. but the thing is that in guru sahibs time the singhs were very chardikalaa and would sing in raag all the time. But they would do riaze of the saaj for Years before doing kirtan with it and therefore it was second nature for them, and so they could play in raag and at the same time understand the baaani and vibrate on it. But alot of people that sing in raag when i ask them what the bani means they don't no I AM NOT TRYING TO SAY THAT THERE NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE, but they've spent so much time on learning the raag and not on the actual shabad. Trust me i play a bit of dilruba and to even just sing while playing is extremely hard. and for this reason i never do raag kirtan at programs or smgms because we should care more about the bani and less on the sound BUT I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE RAAG KIRTAN :s :D :D :D

  11. EXACTLY!!! also her argument isn't even solid..its not apart of her religion because she has no religion because shes not Amritdhari...simple enough? if a amritdhari singh or singhni was saying it then it would be valid...But we should still sign because what if tomorrow they start telling amritdhari singhs or singhnis to take off there kakkars..

  12. Interesting...

I live in Canada, born here. When I was younger I learnt tabla from a local Gurdwara but, my interest really went into kirtan after I started playing more and more tabla for different variations of kirtanee.

I didn't learn raag matra or anything like that. I would listen to a keertan recording, and figure it out myself on the vaaja. I am now 20 years old, have not listened to any form of hindi/punjabi/english/ or any other music since I was about 7 or 8 years old. All I do is listen to kirtan. I copy the "tunes" of many professional raagi. I have no idea if they are "hindi song" tunes or not. I just do kirtan using these tunes at home, as a showing of love to Guru.

Does this make me a bad person?

I think you're being too judgemental here.

I think the most important aspect of doing kirtan is actually UNDERSTANDING and Abiding by the kirtan. One of the things commonly seen in the youth is the use of a pothi. Me myself using a pothi cannot do kirtan and still focus on the bani. I play tabla, waja and now am learning dilruba. I do very basic tunes on waja but LOVE raag kirtan and think it should be done world wide. BUT the purataan singhs would do 6-7 years of practice of the saaj before doing kirtan with them because it becomes a instinct to play the saaj and u can focus on the bani. I am not smart enough to play a tanti saaj like my dilruba and still focus on the bani...Even while doing a raag shabd in tintaal on waja i get lost. thats just my idiotic veiw tho...Bhul chuk maaf
