  1. lol if u do, u know more than me bruv. I'm surprised it took someone this long to start up a new sikh tv channel. Expect many more to come, im sure ...

lol@AvnitK ... yeah sorry man. busy times in this dark age. its a shame though sikh channels are only coming out now near the end of the television era when 3DTV is around the corner. Better late than never?

  2. Credit where its due to Sikh Channel as it wasnt easy for them to take the step to even mention Sant Jarnail Singh Ji on air.

1984 is a part of Sikh history, and still part of our present because we still havent got justice for what happened 26 years ago. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji will always remain a true Saint-Soldier of the Sikh nation and anyone who criticises Sant Ji are not Sikh.. but Sick.

  3. It is fact that Sikh Channel receives backing and funding from India as well. Anyone here seen Sikh Channel accounts? You guys didnt seriously think that you're £4 a month direct debits were all that were funding the channel do you? lol That and advertisements - which are all Claim Today, Balfor Recruitment adverts anyway which belong to the owner :S

  4. Its Mothers Day this Sunday in the UK, and we have found a site offering unique gifts your mum would love. SunderArts.com is a West Midlands based artist who will be fully launching her website next month and as a special one week promotion, the website is up and running to allow you to get that special gift your mum and personalise it with a special message or Hukamnama, or photos.

Visit the website www.sunderarts.com for more information!

Please share the link with friends and family who may be interested. They are still taking orders in time for Saturday delivery :-)

If you have any other suggestions for Sikh gifts, post them here as well!

  5. I remember Sikhitube which i personally thought was brilliant. Did you also run that site?

I think the problem is too many people have started such projects, then found that their costs sky rocket when people begin to use them, and they cant afford it so the site shuts down and the sangat and people using it, lose faith in commiting to new sites.

I think that you should try and find something different, totally different, that the panth could benefit from, find that niche, and build a website on it. A Sikh mobile site would be brilliant, dedicated to iphone, blackberry, android and windows apps? Or even create new videos relating to the latest thats happening. A touching video from the Sikh perspective in memory of those that died in recent earthquakes would have been nice.

Just some ideas for you though to think about...

  6. This smagam is being organised to p*ss people off, lets be honest about it. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be a problem removing the "Shaheed" label - that way, you'd be keeping in line with all those "panthic" organisations and not hurting anyone in the process. "Shaheed" title or no shaheed title, the kirtan, the ardasaa wouldn't differ would they?

The aim of ANY programme held where Maharaj is present should be to do as MUCH as you can to welcome ALL sangat.

Don't get me wrong, my words and opinion on this matter do not reflect my opinion on the whole debate of whether Sant Jee is physically alive or not. I just hate it when people do stupid things like this which they know will cause issues. But hey, maybe they know that that is what will get their programme noticed. Controversy sells doesn't it? ;-)

  7. I agree with Jagmeet.

I hope you havent organised this programme knowing that the sentiments of many in the Sikh community is that Sant Jee is not shaheed. Whatever you believe, you should consider the sentiments of the beliefs and opinions of your brothers and sisters.

If you want to hold a programme dedicated to Sant Jee, then thats fine. But holding programmes called Shaheed Smagam that will cause upset and further divisions in the panth, is just plain wrong.

  8. Difference between slander and truth Southall Youth. Slander refers to false allegations, rumours so forth. I think whatever has been highlighted by Harjap, with whatever intention, is valid and has been proved in a court of law. So lets not pass that off as slander.

And you are wrong... SKY EPG numbers are still available. They are not allowing any SD (Standard Definition) EPG's but are accepting and distributing HD EPG's. IN addition, past channels that have gone off air are allowed to auction and sell on their EPG numbers and theyre are a few doing the rounds. Owners of RAJ TV were once auctioning off their EPG numbers. So another Sikh Channel is not off the cards, by no means. Who knows, we may even have a HD Sikh Channel and looking in the near future, a 3D Sikh Channel.

Current holders of EPG numbers can sell them as well and they normally do so after they get good exposure on Sky... think about it.

  9. I hear people saying "oh it doesnt matter what the owner of the channel is like, as long as we have a Sikh Channel..."

I ask those people this: "ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELVES?!"

Seriously, is this what Sikhi is teaching us? Are we that materialistic?! Would Sarbans Dhaani Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee instruct his Sikhs to support a cause or such an organisation, no matter how big, if its core owner and admin was this corrupt? If we had such a true leader in this day and age, would they teach us to support this guy and his work?

Look, everyone knows that the owner of the channel has been linked to such crimes, but one would have hoped that after starting a Sikh Channel that he would have stopped. Are we really this desperate for such a "Sikh Channel" that we continue to support fraudsters?

If the panth wants a Sikh Channel, then Sikhs should get together and start a Sikh Channel together which belongs to the panth and funds the panth - not an individual.

  10. BBC Asian Network is closing! I kinda saw this coming a while ago due to BBC not putting the station on mainstream FM radio. Its reception on MW was always bad anyway.

I think it's a good thing in the sense that their debates always seemed to favour "non-religious" or "anti-Sikh" types. For the "Asian community" as a whole, its a shame because it helped bring British Asians into the media limelight.

What do you think of the closure? Is it a good thing? What will Sonia Deol do now?!

  11. Sikhi is more than just ticking a box on a piece of paper. I think its sad we are trying to count in people who are merely born into Sikh families but don't care about Sikhi or religion at all - and theres many of them about. If Sikhism is included in the religion section and its voluntary, I am certain that people who at least have respect for Sikhi and those who are Gursikhs will tick that box because they are proud of their religion. Personally, I wouldnt want an immature <banned word filter activated> with a khanda tattoo on his arm who drinks alcohol, smokes and parties like theres no tomorrow to tick that box classing himself as Sikh on that census.

We've always been taught that Sikhi is about quality and jeevan... not numbers. Remember : 1 = 175,000

  12. VJKK VJKF

Please can someone help me understand something as I am not that knowledgeable on the subject. But why are Sikhs trying to get a seperate tick box in the 2012 census - and that in the "Ethnic Background" option? I mean, I have heard the argument that Sikhs want a seperate tick box like "Arab" etc... but doesnt the Ethnic Background option refer to a geographical location as to where are roots are from, rather than our religion? I would have thought the two were seperate things? I might be totally wrong here so if someone can correct me, that would be great.

    Thanks

ps. I hear there wont be any more census' after 2012 due to the stupidity of many in filling out the 2002 census and its huge financial cost.
