You know what we as Sikh girls are so lucky that our father Guru Gobind Singh ji :l: is so benevolent and loves exactly the way he loves his Singhs! We'd probably think of this briefly and thinks its normal, well I use to until I researched a bit and found out this: originally as we know in the patriarchal society women were oppressed and one way of doing this was to pin them down to a man. So before a girl is married she has the surname of the father (as she is dependent on the father) and later after marriage she takes on the name of the husband. This reinforced the idea of women being the property of men. This was also carried out by many religions, for example : (satguru kirpa kare, im not doing nindeya just saying  ) The hindu law/hierarchy maker MANU- claimed that women should never be independent, hence things like sati were important :onfire: . The women should die if the husband dies! The Christian creation story- Eve was made out if Adams spare rib which makes her subjective to males. where as our father Guru Gobind singh ji created the khalsa- where women are given the name Kaur and equal rights. The surname kaur remains the same before and after marriage, this means that women are not dependent on men and DO HAVE the ability to be independent. Also just some extra info, the word KURI originally came from the word KOOH-RAH meaning rubbish. This was because people disrespected women and thought they were rubbish and inferior to men and doormats. However Guru Gobind Singh ji followed Guru Nanak Dev jis teachings of "why call her bad, who gives birth to kings" and said that Girls are not rubbish, they are princesses - KAUR! :khalsa: So please Sikh bibiyo pehno apni keemat jaano and kaim rakho apni taur by using the surname Kaur :waheguru:
