Amritsar, Punjab: A painter-turned-sculptor has a story to tell. Narinder Singh, an eminent artiste, had the urge to do something different and a challenge thrown by a woman made him manifest his inner dream and created a life out a wooden piece. Since then he has not looked back and dedicated his whole life to this form of art. However, for him this art has different perception. “It’s not me who works on wood to express my thoughts, in fact it is the wood itself which uses me to communicate its silent feelings,” says Narinder, who has put up an exhibition of his works at local Art Gallery. Narrating his story about metamorphosis, Narinder is basically an art teache…

Amritsar: Pilgrims visiting the Harimandir Sahib will not have to walk on the parkarma of the holy sarovar in harsh weather as re-doing of the verandahs along the passage is expected to be completed in three to four months. The verandas in the Harimandir Sahib complex along the parkarma on all four sides give shelter to devotees from harsh weather or rain. Amritsar, Punjab: Environmentalists and agriculturists have expressed acute concern over the sharply-depleting ground water levels for the cultivation of paddy in the border region here.</p> The state has recorded 40 percent deficient rain during the month of June and July but some showers in August have redeemed the situation slightly. According to reports in the media, the ground-water-level-situation in Punjab had been quite grim but effective measures taken by certain NGOs backed by the government, for the last two years, have created a situation where the fall could be termed relatively insignificant. It is pertinent to mention here that a strong message was…
