  1. It's matter of personal choice to see what's wrong and whats rite.. My maternal grandma wears keski.. and she does not belong to any jatha.. Soit's just what's ur soul needs.. If u think that keski is important, then wear it but *don't* criticize the ones who doesn't :D if one think that having long hair is important, then keep the hair long and respect it BUT don't criticize the ones who wear it and specially don't criticize any jathas for that.. (it's just what i hearing stuff on internet.. )

As to me.. As long as Sikh respect his/her hair and covers it all tha time.. everything is cool to me.. but singhnia in keskeee looks more cool... wubb.gif

  2. Yup that's the one... The flag i believe is of country Turkey (?).. Glad that one singh from this forum called and alerted them..

I think putting FORUM on sgpc.net was certainly not a good thinking.. Certainly not a good idea if those type of message boards are very common on net.... Im glad that they pulled it off quickly.. :D

  3. Lucky you man... Unless guys like me are still stuck with aol contract of three years ohmy.gif (only 6 more months :D @ )

one thing i wanna know.. u don't have the mobility option of connection by dsl/cable rite? like now i can connect to aol from anywhere in states.. but maybe not by fast connection if i get it?

  4. Gurfateh...

Visit : http://www.sgpc.net/forum/default.asp and see that somone hacked their server and put some Islamic related flag as the banner.. CAN someone Tell the SGPC to bring their site offline and PUT SOME SECURITY... ohmy.gif

This might NOT be the work or move of Islamic people... Why would they want to make their relations with sikh community bad.. It's someone who wants to divide sikh community and muslim community and by doing that they get their own advantage.. "Divide and Rule" tatic..

    Spread the WORD around...

  5. I personally don't believe in any sants in life/human form. I do respect them but i don't think of them as high profile figure.. LIke BIG BIG Priest or something like that.. We have more damage done by having words like sant and treating others like sant and i know they do deserve much much respect, but in sikhi it's differant.. Cauz if one do follow any *True* sant then the general pendu sangat will blindly follow some other COPY CAT sants.. So damage is more..

Just follow Guru Granth Sahib.. and yeah encourage Singhs/kaurs (sants) to promote sikhi within sikh community without getting the famous figure.. just 2 cent of my thought :D

BTW, jslick bruv sant is word we use to give respect to the person who did a lot for the community just like Royal family of UK give word "LORD".., but i think sometime this word is very misleading tooo..

  6. Fateh jeeo

my sister has hairs on her chin and she bleaches. she reckons that in guru jees days, women didnt have dharis, so its ok. i think this is totally wrong. wot do u guys think?

In my personal view.. i think she is doing nothing wrong jee.. at least ur sister is not removing it like Thousands or even millions of other sikh women do... :D

    my 2 cent of thought

BTW welcomeani.gif to the forum Mkaur and rjp_kaur ..

  7. Many Non-Sikhs do read Guru Granth sahib.. (we hav no clue on it)... I heard.. maybe it's a rumor that Oprah also read the translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.. (Not sure, read it on sikhnet once..)...

one more quote that sikhs shud always keep it in their mind...

"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.."

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - An Oklahoma man arrested on suspicion of beating his wife faced year in prison and a fine. But when he spit in an arresting officer's face, he got a life sentence instead, officials said on Wednesday.

John Carl Marquez, 36, was convicted of "placing bodily fluid upon a government employee," a felony that can carry a life sentence because of the possibility of transmitting a potentially deadly disease.

State judge April Sellers White sentenced Marquez this week even though Marquez and the officer tested negative for any communicable disease.

Marquez also was convicted of assaulting a police officer, and a jury recommended the maximum sentence because he had previous convictions.

Marquez, arrested several months ago, could have received one year in prison and a $3,000 fine for wife beating, according to the Creek County court clerk's office.

His lawyers said they plan to appeal.

  11. More Students Delaying Start of College

    By STEVE GIEGERICH

    .c The Associated Press

Around the time her former high school classmates are cracking college textbooks, Perrin Ireland will head to Honolulu to assist in a research project with dolphins.

While they're brushing up for fall semester finals, Ireland plans to be in South America, taking Spanish lessons. The end of their freshmen year will find Ireland in Greece, studying Aegean art and creative writing.

It's what the English call the ``gap year,'' a traditional break between high school graduation. Prince William took his three years ago; royal Prince Harry began his gap year earlier this month.

And in America, it's becoming more commonplace among students well-off enough to take a year to indulge their interests.

``I guess I'm really in no rush to be done with college,'' said Ireland, who has put off the start of her education at Brown University. ``So I figured there was no harm to give myself an extra year to digest and explore.''

Not only are many colleges amenable to deferring admission for students like Ireland, some - such as Harvard University - actually recommend a year off before starting classes as a means to mature emotionally and intellectually.

``It's not that people find themselves in a year and then walk off happily into the sunset,'' said Gail Reardon, the owner of ``Taking Off,'' a private Boston-area counseling service that helps students, such as Ireland, plan sabbaticals.

``But it does start a process of learning skills and looking at yourself. It gives you the maturity, self-esteem and independ

ence to think outside the box. It's an evolution.''

Reardon said a gap year offers young people the first flush of freedom from parents, minus the academic obligations of higher education.

``For me, college wasn't my first time without a curfew,'' said Colin Hall, who co-authored ``Taking Time Off'' and who backpacked through Africa before attending school in the late 1990s.

Not all students use the year off to visit exotic places.

John Bloch of Cincinnati, an aspiring culinary arts major, is postponing his freshman year to spend 10 months as an AmeriCorps volunteer teaching underprivileged children, building homes for Habitat for Humanity and cutting trails for the National Park Service.

``It's just a personal choice of mine to help and support the country and learn more about myself, the community I live in and the United States as a whole,'' he said.

For students unable to raise the money, of course, skipping a year before starting college isn't an option. Reardon acknowledged that the gap years she helps to arrange attract ``middle and upper class kids by virtue that it does cost something.''

Drew Harry said the benefit of deferring his start at the Olin College of Engineering could never be measured in monetary terms.

After a year in Europe, Harry arrived at Olin's Needham, Mass., campus last fall more mature and eager to learn at an engineering school that opened its doors just two years ago. Olin also encourages incoming students to take a year off.

``It made the college transition a lot easier,'' said the Providence, R.I.-native. ``I could focus more on academics because I was more self-reliant. I could handle myself. I could get my laundry done and get groceries and stupid things like that.''

To guarantee they'll still be able to attend the school of their choice, Reardon and other counselors advise students taking a year off to go through the admissions pr

ocess prior to asking for a deferral.

Once that deferral is granted, they suggest spending the year pursuing areas of interest related to their college studies.

``I always recommend, don't take a year off, take a year on,'' said John Boshoven, a counselor in Ann Arbor, Mich. ``Don't count it as a year that is separate from your life, but connect to what you want to do the rest of your life.''
