  1. The guy who wrote this story should have added that for disobeying father, son was shown the door which is more realistic, especially in olden times Why the janeu refusal got no backlash whereas Guru ji got slapped for doing Sacha Sauda ? Being shamed in front of Biradri is a bigger thing then losing money ! Guess it's time to review stories, cover the loopholes, make them more realistic. Coming to the Shabad if you believe that Akal Purakh is your father then what is keeping you from leaving birth parents ? P.S - I am not supporting or promoting Rakhri, Janeu or misinterpreting Gurmat just being pragmatic and presenting a different point of view from majority. Will request all Sikhs to stop being hypocrites, first become financially independent, move out and then do your own thing.
  2. Problem with neither eastern nor western population is that they want best of both worlds. It's like living in Utopia. If you're westernised why don't you leave family home & parents should kick kids out when they are adults. Otherwise learn to be obedient CHAKAS !
  3. I thought akj & bibeki's had more knowledge of Gurbani http://igurbani.com/?shabadid=4258&id=51611 Bhoomia chor ate salt from Kings bhandaar while committing theft. He later realised Guru Sahibs Updesh "jidha namak khana us nu haraam nahi karna" Gurbani & Saakhi both support what I wrote.
  4. Good for you ! But if you eat your parents salt, live in their house and disobey them that means you are Haraamkhor which too is anti-gurmat. What parents do out of Moh for a son over daughter doesn't make them Gurmukh.
  5. There is no justification for Rakhri as per Gurmat, totally agree ! It is the Grehasti Jeevan or householder lifestyle which gets disturbed by disobeying parents & hurting your sisters sentiment. That too is not permissible as per Gurmat ! So nobody's is an absolute winner or absolute loser.
  6. 8. All people cannot be equal because they are basically unequal. But everyone should be free to be what he is and what he can be; to be himself. If equality is forced on people then their freedom is bound to diminish and disappear. Anything imposed with force is synonymous with slavery. Only free individuals make a society, and where sovereignty of the individual is denied, society turns into a herd, a mob. This is the difference between society and crowd. Society is another name for the interrelationship of individuals, a cooperative of individuals -- but the individual has to be there, he is the basic unit of society. 16. Logic for everything Once upon a time there was a country known as India where what elders said was obeyed without any question.... I am sure soon this will be the opening line of a saga and people will feel nostalgic about the thought itself. Cause nowadays after every command (as perceived by elders) is a question of why or why not... you a liable to explain if you want the task to be done or followed. You have to give logic, this radical generation asks for reasons at every step. Well still few ancient genes might be alive but with no guarantee. ...They want to know why to go to temple when God is omnipresent ... no they are not atheist ... they are so called GENX.. the logical ones...they want to know why Sikh wear turban and Jain’s do what they do. And mind you, only saying it’s in their tradition is not enough, your explanation has to be logical. This generation is inquisitive and thanks to psychologically driven parenting which says they are right and hence you are each and every moment standing in witness box.... and above all with a hope that we might be developing his intellectual skill with these logics which give our mind a roller coaster ride....... happy parenting ....

  18. When our Grandparents came over to Canada, the UK and USA in the 1950s and later it was primarily for a better future. A more comfortable life for their offspring and better worldly opportunities. These reasons and other materialistic hopes and desires were attributes pretty much foreign to the real simple living Gurmukhs who had no desire for the entrapments offered in the West. Our forefathers were primarily simple farming folk who although kesdhari had a limited view on Gursikhi. One cannot blame them therefore for making the journey to better their standard of living and provide a better maternalistic future for their children. Those real Gursikh like Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh were asked many a time to travel to Canada and other places abroad and one Singh who was there when he was asked told me the answer was always the same ‘ Meh utte jah ke ki karna?’. And quite correct too! What was there for Bhai Sahib in Toronto, London or the ‘Sunny’ Los Angeles? Despite the many misgivings of India, no one can doubt there is a certain magic about the place. That land has been set foot on , not only by our Guru Sahiba and many a Brahm Giani such as Banda Singh Bahadur but also many a Hindu God, Devtia, Rishia and other great souls. Infact, its no coincidence that every major religion of the world started off in the East. Islam, Christianity (Middle East), Buddhism (Far East), Hinduism and Sikhism. That spiritual reverberation is most tangibly felt in Amritsar, Harmander Sahib where even the most non-religious of foreign tourist remark about the special atmosphere of that sacred place. In contrast, I am afraid to say we here in the West live in a soulless , tasteless and spiritually devoid place. There are some good Sikhs here, no doubt but I am of the opinion one can only attain a certain level of Jeevan here which falls way short of the bar. To compensate, new terms are being coined..’bibeki pizza’ ,‘bibeki fries’ with a ‘bibeki soya chicken burger.’ Come on. Please. ï The West has resulted in a dilution of the Sikh faith and no matter how much we kid ourselves we are here for the materialistic trappings. Materialism and Gursikhi and mutually exclusive terms. So take your pick. http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,34998

  20. This preacher at MileHi Church in Lakewood, Colorado gives her interpretation of when Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, gave hukam to his Sikhs to wear a dastaar. She says Guru Gobind Singh Ji did this so that the Sikh would stand out amongst thousands, and be recognisable as the figure to go to if you need any help, support, food, water or protection. Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed the khalsa with his own image to represent righteousness in a world where humanity was losing it’s identity. We commend this preacher for raising awareness of Sikhs and the dastaar in America, where Sikhs are often victims of racial intolerance.
