  1. Sunny, the Singhs called their fiances Bhen Jee because Anand Karaj had not yet been performed therefore in the eyes of Guru Jee they are still brother and sister ok? I have heard elder Gurmukhs say Veer/Bhen Jee for all people around their age, and Mata/Pita Jee for those considerably older, so that is what I do. They even address aloos like me with Tussi. There are similar threads with very good replies on other forums you can search for, as it might not be appreciated if I link directly to them.

Edit: Singh = Amritdhari Male Sikh, Kaur = Amritdhari Female Sikh, Singhni = Wife of Singh.

  2. He probably would have collapsed with embarassment I think, as he was with his entourage. But yeah, maybe next time I see a Singh on campus I'll try a bear hug lol and then in the shocked silence roar out a Fateh and ask CHARDIKALAA VEER JEEE!!!!??? We'll see what happens, and I'll report the results haha lol

  3. Great thread, finally some pyaar :D . What's the verdict on shouting Fatehs at "trim Singhs"? lol

looool u shuld try that... :D i did it once at a park where i was playin football... lol i swear all i culd hear afterwards when he was tlkin 2 his mate was something along the lines of "millitant, teenage n acting like a badman with his (n check this out) 'knife'"

looool it was fun though :D

Yeah I tried it today lol, I saw a youngish Sardar across the street by the ATM and I put both those hands up together in the air followed by a frantic wave, totally ignored lol. And then, about 15mins later he walks into the cafeteria where I'm just sitting with my friends whilst they eat, and I give a big smile and he ignored that as well! LOL, Challo nevermind.

Erm a "trim singh" is like a slang term for a man with a turban/patka who cuts his beard. I did not wish to cause offence with that, apologies if I did, it's just what they're commenly referred to as.

  4. Admin Sahib, I have noticed that it happens to me when I'm on the forum as normal and then I follow a link from Google or anywhere else to the forum and then try to carry on browsing normally from within www.sikhsangat.com. If that helps, I don't know :S

  5. Jasbir Kaur, that's a load of nonsense. You're saying it's OK to do Nitnem during Ishaan when your head obviously isn't covered but not whilst sitting down with a Gutka Sahib when your head isn't covered? And that it's OK to recite the name of God bareheaded but not to read Gurbani? Rubbish. Before you say, I'm not saying you go and do Akhand Paat roll bareheaded, but be sensible.

If I (or anyone else with long thick hair) were to do what you are saying, I would probably have to do Simran for around 3 hours (which I should do anyway, anyway...) with my Kesh open so that they can dry properly and then tie my Dastaar become "saj baj keh thyaar bar thyaar" and then begin Nitnem? Or should I tie my Dastaar whilst Kesh are still damp and have my Dastaar and head feeling "icky" while I do Nitnem and all day after that?

If this was an issue, Guru Sahib would have had a Rehat made out of it (with regards to my earlier post).

  6. By the way:

Those of of you who say

    1) Who cares about the world, we are just supposed to care about our own soul.

    2) All you need is "Naam" when you are terminally ill or very sick and in pain.

If you believe either of those things, you have NEVER been seriously ill before.

Shame on you. Hemp is NOT some negative drug, it is one of the greatest medicines ever.

Veer Jee, Naam has a power that we as are mere mortals cannot even begin to understand. If you read the translation of Jaap Sahib, all those qualities, Naam posseses. I'm sure Gursikhs can tell you many stories of seriously ill even dying people being healed by Naam, believe it or not, it happens. As for the world, that's up to Guru Sahib and in his hands, not for us to worry about, we can only do our best to follow Guru Sahib's teachings (which does mean serving humanity and being caring, but not about the world itself). Ok fine, you're smoking Cannabis now because you are genuinely using it for a medicinal purpose, but if you go on using it throughout your life (even after having taken Amrit) under the pretence of medicinal use (my head hurts, or I cut my finger oh let's blaze one up, to "keep going" for a school paper) you're only fooling yourself.

I would also recommend you read up on Nimrata (humility) as well as Ahankar (ego).

Oh, I was just curious, are you putting tobacco in your joints? Because if you are, that is totally not allowed in Sikhi medicinal or otherwise.

  7. Wow Veer Jee, if you're using Cannabis instead of Methadone to overcome your Heroin addiction then that's fine and good, but I would humbly request that you don't wear a Kirpan and put videos on youtube of you doing so, and please make sure you're totally clean before you take Guru Sahib's Amrit, and that you don't take any non-medicinal drugs after that! Including Cannabis after which you no longer use it for medicinal purposes, but may still have the idea that you are.

My physician is the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.

The Guru is your Doctor, and the Naam is your medicine :D

  8. Do you really think that akaaaal purkh vaaheguroojee is gonna look at whether your head is covered or not when you do nitnem? Doing nitnem is a personal thing you should do your nitnem daily to try and merge your soul with akaal purkh and not worry about such things, when doing your nitnem cover your kes or don't cover them, its your choice, finish your nitnem then sajaa your dumalla with two or three keskis and a vaddi dastaar on top.

Haanji, as far as I know, according to Rehat, we are only supposed not to eat/distribute food, go outside, do any seva or lie down without a covered head. To my (extremely limited) knowledge there's nothing regarding doing Nitnem with/without your head covered, someone please say if there is. I personally like to keep my head covered very lightly with a Keski, chunni style, while my Kesh dry (sometimes take it off to shake Kesh and scalp otherwise they don't dry lol).

  9. Tired Jee, I also had this problem for a while, sleeping over 12 hours a night every night for over 2 weeks and still feeling lazy and tired all day. I identified it as hypersomnia, it's like the opposite of insomnia (I'm not a medical professional btw, just my own desi diagnosis lol).

I got over it by forcefully cutting my sleep down (I try not to allow myself more than 8 hours otherwise I just get really lazy), reading Shabad Haazarey Patshahey 10 after morning Nitnem (which is said to remove lazyness) and going for a run in the evenings. Also repitition of gubindhae | mukandhae | oudhaarae | apaarae | 94|

World Saviour. Emancipator. Benevolent. Boundless. (94) hareean | kareean | nrinaamae | akaamae | 95|

All Extinguisher. All Creator. Nameless. Desire less. (95) is also said to remove lazyness. Also, I bought a Sarabloh mug (although I do not keep Sarabloh Bibek) which I drink everything out of to increase iron levels.

    Hope that helps.

  10. Pjs I disagree strongly with your post, although your Muchaa are amazing. I believe it is not Saint first then Warrior, nor is it Warrior first then Saint, it is absolutely totally 50/50 in everyway. A real Gursikh is equal parts saint/warrior warrior/saint.

As for training, I believe a reasonable level of fitness and strength must be reached and maintained and that you are familiar with modern modes of combat, and never being afraid to use them. The rest of your shakti and ability in warfare comes from Simran and Gurbani and bellowing mighty Jakaras. Cool post by Singhstah as well.

    Guru Ke Piyare,

I have been reading this post and just want to make one thing clear, that you can become pooran without sarbloh bibek. For example, Bhai Sahib Rama Singh did alot of naam abiyaas and wasn't a sarbloh bibeki. Don't get me wrong he still kept bibek, but you don't need to become a sarblohi for your jeevan to be pooran and have muktee.

Even I am thinking of keeping sarbloh bibek, because of the health benefits and I personally experienced it make you jaap more naam, which is excellent and so have other sikhs experienced it. Doesn't mean I someone great. I think that sarbloh bibek should be kept personal. The reason is when you do kept it you tend to become hankaree that you are keeping this rehat.

Even if you don't keep sarbloh bibek it perfectly fine. The only think is that keep a bibek budhi, that you don't eat from a person that is not sincere hearted person or don't jaap naam. If some one want to make something for you out of love then you should take because breaking someones heart is a great a sin! So I agree that people who make that langar should jaap naam or read some bani in their mind. As long as they are praising Akal purakh and not about their lives.

To end with is that, to live on an Atamak level is probally the hardiest way to live and the best! If I by mistake have upset someone I'm very sorry.
