  1. Here you guys go again. So you are asking me who funds me ?
  2. Nope, thats incorrect. But Congress and BJP ( and its Bandar Sena) are united at this becuase this movie portrays their truth. I think Sikhs need to get this false notion out of their mind that Congress is their enemy and BJP-Akali are their friend. Both are our enemies. I dont know why people never votes for the likes of Simaranjit Singh Mann. And its true that Bandar Sena doesnt enjoy the support it once had in Mumbai. Thats why they are trying to expand into Punjab and northern states.
  3. Finally a good article from mainstream indian media http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/sadda-haq-ban-making-a-mockery-of-the-cbfc/ Sadda Haq ban: making a mockery of the CBFC LAST UPDATED: 5.32 PM IST 04.09. First of all, let us clarify that we are not referring to the AR Rahman’s hit song from Rockstar. That’s so 2011We are talking about Mandeep Benipal’s Punjabi film Sadda Haq that was due to release last Friday but was banned at the last minute by the governments of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi on the grounds that it might fan the flames of communal disharmony. This is Benipal’s second film after 2010’s superhit Ekam: Son of Soil. Sadda Haq is a cinematic look at the separatist movement in the Punjab from the militants’ point of view and is purportedly based on true events. The film has had a troubled journey. It was initially refused certification in November 2012 by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The filmmakers sought the help of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), an adjudicating body for matters pertaining to the Sikh community, and duly received a letter of support, following a special screening for a five-member committee. On this basis the CBFC cleared the film for general release with a U certificate, but the state governments decided to ban it anyway. Meanwhile, the SGPC did an about face and decided to support the ban. SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said, “In future we will take precautions while giving our opinion on any film dealing with controversial subjects related to the Sikh community. I acknowledge that we made a mistake by giving a letter of support for its release to the makers.” And in a show of unity rarely seen in parliament, all political parties have closed ranks against the film. Could be that Benipal has portrayed the truth and the political parties cannot handle the truth. One of the parties most vociferous against the film is the Shiv Sena. In a delicious twist of irony, Sadda Haq is playing in Mumbai, the so-called Sena stronghold. The movie released without incident in the UK, US, Australia and Canada and is playing to packed houses. In the UK, Sadda Haq has already collected Rs 74 lakh from just eight screens and in the US and Canada Rs 55 lakh from 21 screens. There is no point banging on about freedom of expression in India, because there just isn’t any. It is however time to take a good long look at the CBFC. Why does it exist at all if its rulings can be routinely countermanded by state governments like what happened with Vishwaroopam? Good news is at hand though. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari has made clear his displeasure about this unilateral high-handedness of state governments and set up a committee to look into the matter. And unlike the creaking old committees of yore, Tewari has demanded a report and a solution pronto. We also hold out a Utopian hope that if factions and state governments decide to ban a film, a new law be enacted wherein the people responsible for the ban be forced to pay the filmmakers at least triple the film’s budget. And pigs will fly… First Published: 6.00 PM IST 04.09.2013
  4. I personally like this more , especially the rap in the end after 4:15 Watch after 4:15
  5. It would be a very good idea to release the movie in English. I think the Sikhs are doing a good job by going out with their families and watching the film. But next step would be to encourage your non sikh friends( especlaly goreh) to watch this film. May gift them DVDs when the movie is released on a DVD
  6. Thats true, if you see the timing of the ban( just a day before release), it was a pre-decided move by the government so as to cause maximum financial damage to the producers. I am pretty sure they had decide to ban this movie way ahead, they just implemented the ban an evening before deliberately. This is to discourage any further such efforts of making such a film. Honestly, I dont see the ban being lifted unless the producers win an appeal in the court which is going to take some time and is still less likely.
  7. US-based Sikh right groups to release ‘Sadda Haq” in English By: Bharat April 9, 2013 12:40 <div class="fb-like data-ref= fb_edge_widget_with_comment fb_iframe_widget" data-width="90" data-href="http://hillpost.in/2013/04/09/us-based-sikh-right-groups-to-release-sadda-haq-in-english/66425/general/bharat" .uwpwajhkwxc.like"="" data-layout="button_count" data-show_faces="false" data-action="like" data-font="arial" data-send="false" fb-xfbml-state="rendered"> New York: With a motive to challenge an unconstitutional blanket ban on the movie “Sadda Haq” by the Punjab SAD (Badal) Government, the US-based Sikh right groups have declared to promote and sponsor the release of the English version of the movie worldwide. The film Sadda Haq has been a non-starter in cinema halls across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, since its release on April 5, as Governments in both the states and the authorities in union territory imposed a ban on its screening. The movie highlights human rights violations against a religious minority in Punjab during the 1980-90s. It allegedly shows the police torture and other types of inhuman practices that were reported during that period. The movie has thus been banned from screening on the grounds of creating communal disharmony. Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) have begun and international campaign in US and Canada to expose the genocide of Shikhs, and are therefore advocating to support Sadda Haq. SJF has also initiated campaign in support for the movie of Facebook, where they already have over 100 thousand followers (and counting) from around the world. Massive international publicity in favour of the movie can be a reason that’s propelled the US-based Sikh right groups to lend support for the release of the English version of Sadda Haq.
  8. We need to find out why this book was banned
  9. Make it a point that we highlight the fact Sikhs freedom of speech is suppressed almost 30 years later as well on every platform internationally or nationally This movie is about exposing the human right abuses in Indian by Indian governement and this fact must be brought to light. On a positive note, this ban has brought much more attention to this movie , so this movie will get more hits for sure
  10. Now the biggest traitor is doing his best to kill Sadda Haq. Wow, here's the so called PM of the so called world's largest democarcy. Go Mr PM, read your constitution and see what freedom of speech means RAISINA TATTLE: PM seeks inquiry into controversial film 'Sadda Haq' By Raisina Tattle Prime Minister Manmohan Singh The Congress brass and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have belatedly realised the consequences of controversial Punjabi film Sadda Haq. Sources said the PM and several Union ministers have taken a serious note of the manner in which the movie, allegedly glorifying terrorism, was certified for exhibition. The Central Board of Film Certification, sources said, had raised misgivings but the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal headed by Lalit Bhasin cleared it without due diligence. The PM has now asked the information and broadcasting ministry to seek the opinion of experts and report to his office. 11. Well the guy has done which no average Sikh ( mona or otherwise) has done. So please stop criticizing him for this. We need to support him
  12. I think he used to be Mona earlier but now he always keeps his Turban. This video is a few months old.
  13. If Badals were really politically smart, they should have allowed this movie to be screened in Punjab, This would have made them popular amongst common Sikh youth. Earlier the Badal Dal was viewed as anti-Sikh by only the Panthic groups but now the average Sikh youth will view the Badal Govt as anti-free speech( just like Bandar Sena who go on rampage like monkeys every Valentine's day), anti-democratic and possibly anti-SIkh.Nobody likes censorship, people want to decide themselves. Plus the Badals would have had a chance to get advantage from the expose of Human right violations by the then Congress regime. Grow up Badals, get your base strong amongst the common Sikh youth of Punjab and not your BJP pseudo allies. You dont know how to play true politics.
  14. Yes, this movie needs to be urgently dubbed into English and possibly Hindi as well.
  15. Sikh Channel showing interviews with the 1st show audience right now
  16. Punjabi film 'Sadda Haq', based on the Khalistan movement, banned in Delhi and Haryana Patiala: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday justified the ban on 'Sadda Haq', a Punjabi movie believed to have glorified the Khalistan movement and its leaders, saying the state government was committed to maintain peace and harmony. "It is our priority to maintain peace and communal harmony in the state... we don't want that the movie should vitiate the communal atmosphere of the state," he told reporters in Patiala after paying homage to Akali stalwart, the late Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra on his 9th death anniversary. A day before its release, the Chandigarh administration, Punjab and Haryana government banned the film on Thursday as it is understood to have glorified the Khalistan (separate Sikh homeland) movement and its leaders. The movie is based on events in Punjab during 1980-90s and portrays alleged police torture and other inhuman practices that were reported during that period. Punjab had witnessed great turbulence during the period in question and many police officers, including Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, are facing charges for crimes such as torture, murder/extra-judicial killings. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa condemned the Punjab government for banning the film on "frivolous charges" and demanded a rethink on the move. H S Dhami, the Dal Khalsa chief, alleged that the Akali led Punjab government had suppressed "the right to expression" by banning the film in the state after coming under pressure from the bureaucracy. Mr Dhami said it was ironic that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which had been at the forefront of the fight to get the film cleared by Censor Board, had failed to convince its own Akali government. "By banning the film, the Punjab government has belittled the SGPC and Sikh institutions," Mr Dhami charged. He said that instead of serving it as a "lame duck" and helpless leader, SGPC chief Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar should quit the post in protest against the ban. Noting that the Censor Board and SGPC had given their go-ahead for the film, Mr Dhami said that those against its screening were driven by a "communal mindset". He said the song "Baagi", which has generated controversy, is not a part of 'Sadda Haq' and was recorded by Punjabi singer Jazzy B to promote the film. According to reports, protests were held against the film at Phagwara and Hoshiarpur on Friday. Following the footsteps of Punjab, the Chandigarh administration and the Haryana government too banned the screening of 'Sadda Haq'. Kuljinder Sidhu, the producer and lead actor of the movie who was in Chandigarh, termed the ban as "shameful" and a "black spot on democracy". Referring specifically to the Punjab government, he told PTI that "Instigated by a few anti-social elements, this government got an excuse to ban my movie. "When the censor board has approved it, and even the SGPC has given a nod, I don't understand this ban." This (ban) is a decision taken by a few bureaucrats, he added. Mr Sidhu said he had tried to meet CM Parkash Singh Badal as well Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, but wasn't given an appointment. Reiterating that the film had no provoking content and "actually gives out a positive message", he also rued that his point of view had not been heard. He said that several national and international groups had asking him to take action, "but I have been requesting everyone to maintain peace." Mr Sidhu said that he was left with no other option than to move the court against the ban. Meanwhile, the film fraternity had rendered support to Mr Sidhu's right to freedom of expression. Veteran Punjabi filmmaker Manmohan Singh said, "I have not seen the film, but why the ban when the censor board has cleared it?" SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar, meanwhile, insisted that the government had taken the decision "from the law and order perspective". When reminded that he had appointed a five-member panel that saw the film before backing it before the censor board, Mr Makkar argued he himself had not seen the movie.
  17. When the movie is released on youtube, make it the most watched Indian movie if you can. That way the Bandar Sena, the Badals and their likes can know that imposing ban wont get them anywhere. Please do not pirate this movie.
  18. Make it a point, use that the punjab govt is violating our human right to free speech. Let the production company release the movie on youtube,
  19. Yes you need one which covers you for $500 million And yeah , you will feel super light because the hand of the protector isnt there any more , you just chopped it off
  20. The reason you are asking this on this forum is that there's somebody deep down there in you which doesnt want you to cut your hair. Its a god's gift. Again as most people said, people who make comments or do not want to associate with you because of your turban, the problem lies in those people and not you. You should be confident of who you are. Tie your turban smart. Excel in sports or your profession. Be honest, do hard work.. Be a good human being. Do good. Then you will realize that a different set of people will become your friends. And that will include whites, indians, Afro-Americans etc. Remember that if you choose to keep your identity as a Sikh, you wont have 500 friends. Because our identity filters out racists, thugs, pseudofriends, opportunists, ignorants etc. What you will have is a small circle of really good friends which will be like diamonds. Arent' diamonds rare? You yourself want to be a diamond and not any other artificial jewel and keep the company of diamonds. Rest is your choice
  21. I need an article from a reputed author/publisher which highlights the positive status women enjoy in Sikhism. Essentially, it should discuss about how Sikhism stresses against gender inequality and rather focuses on equal status for women.
  22. Thanks, I just realized that " items I follow" was checked indeed. Works fine now!
  23. Its not a cache issue, but nevertheless, I cleared it. Tried it on Chrome and IE, the problem persists, may be its related to my account ??
