Anywhere I hear the Slough Party Hall is rented out on Fridays to young revellers!! The School & Party hall can link up and have regular gigis there, oh but I forget they are linked under the umbrella of Ramgarhia Gurdwara! Great future........

Fully agree with what you said. Sub-conciencly you will always get up @ amrit-vela as you know you have to, but your body and mind drag you back into sleep. I've lied half asleep, half awake in bed during amrit-vela battling with my mind to wake up.

But you're right you need to act as if Guru Ji is waiting for you. It is difficult, the battle against sleep is tough!

Even if this is old news it doesn't mean that it wont happen again therefore we all need 2 b aware of it and protect ourselves and each other. Also we shud tell other peepl about wat is happening at the moment, so they 2 can b aware of this.

I think the majority of our community know something about this literature. It's been floating around for 10 years or so. Every so often the stage secretary in the Gurdwara mentions it. People listen for about 15 minutes and then forget about it. Our community seem to get distracted very easily.

Parents need to get more responsible with their kids. They need to know what their kids are up to. They need to set give strong example about Sikh values. In short they need to become Sikhs themselves.

If our Sikhi was strong why would literature like this scare us? It scares us because we know that it's true. The club scene is now part of Punjabi culture, alcohol plays an influentual role in the Punjabi community. The muslim groups are playing on these things which is not even meant to be a part of our maryada.

Why do we put ourselves in these vunerable positions where a bunch of islamic loonys can write some literature and it panics us!

It's strange how this same literature has been around for over 10 years now. We used to see the same stuff in college/uni 10 years ago.

The "easy drunk sikh girl image" is a generalisation of Sikh girls which muslims have. We don't really do much to combat the stereotype, if anything over the last 10 years our sisters are beginning to fit into that category.

The funny thing is that the vast majority of punjabi girls who get into relationships with muslim boys know the score. They know what their getting themselves into.

The oneous is on us, our sisters need to be encouraged to become Singhnees. We need to understand Sikhi from living it not from the internet or text books. Our Sikhi needs to be so strong that none of this "bollywood lovey dovey blue eyed boy" rubbish influences our lives. Until our Sikhi parchaar is not strong, until our Singhs become tyar bar tyar then these pervy guys will keep hovering around our girls. I watched the "Rise of Khalsa" last night, watch it and understand how the Khalsa rose from nothing to the army that destroyed a fully equiped Mughal army. It's because the united Khalsa believed in Guru Ji and believed they could accomplish anything. And they did, the took over Sirhind! The Khalsa stood up to the Mughals and Afghanis who would kidnapp Hindu and Muslim girls from villages.

Lionchild, why do you think they are having the Anand Karaj ceremony in the Hotel? Don't you think it's because of their convenience so that the party can carry on without any hitches?

There was a time when a Sikh would travel hundreds, maybe thousands of miles, to have darshan of Guruji. Today the "sikh" wants Guru Ji to come to them so that their programme runs to their desired schedule. Even if it means bringing the Saroop of our Guru to a place where alcohol, meat and tabbacco are served, where dancing takes place, in short where manmat activities are promoted.

In the hotel, Guru Ji would be treated as nothing more than an idol. After the ceremony is over they will whisk Guru Ji's Saroop off so that the reception can commence.

There are at least 6 Gurdwaras in Florida (http://www.geocities.com/gurdwaraworld/florida.html). Why can't they accomodate the wedding. The party can still carry on in the hotel.

We are responsible for both miri and piri. One without the other is to live an unbalanced life. Work, duty, and politics are a part of the world of miri.

Akhoza, would you personally take Mahraj's Saroop on your head into a hotel and do Mahraj's parkash there yourself. Not a Granthi but you yourself! If so then that's your choice, expect resistance from Sikhs who would be offended by your actions.

Can’t stop you having your opinion, this topic has been discussed many times over and it’s not worth re-starting a debate. You either see this as beadbi or your don’t. Good luck to you..

Hukamnama (Religious Order) released by Sri Akal Takht Sahib (Sikh Throne of Authority), India in March 1998

This Hukamanama instructs that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Sikh Holy Scriptures treated as the living Guru) must not be taken to a hotel, banqueting suite, club, pub, bar etc for Anand Karaj’s (Sikh religious wedding ceremony) as this is direct abuse to Sikh Principles. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji must not be present where alcohol, meat or tobacco is served or consumed.

This decision was made with unanimous agreement from the Jathedars (Sikh Leaders) of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Patna Sahib, Sri Damdama Sahib, Sri Keshgarh Sahib & Sri Hazur Sahib.

All Granthis (Sikh Priests), Ragis (Sikh Minstrals), Gurdwara (Sikh Place of Worship) Committee Members and Organisers of Sikh Related Programmes must not partake in this sacrilegious act. Sikh Rehit Maryada (Sikh Code of Conduct) must be maintained and adhered to in all circumstances.

Those who act in direct conflict to this Hukamnama will face Pesh (penalty) from Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

A more recent Sandesh from Sri Akal Takht Sahib (released April 2006) states that in order to maintain Sikh Principles, Anand Karaj’s (Sikh religious wedding ceremony) must be performed in Gurdwaras (Sikh Place of Worship).

As the Sikhs’ supreme authority, Sri Akal Takht Sahib has voiced its concerns by issuing a new 'Sandesh' strongly reinforcing Sikh Rehit Maryada (Sikh Code of Conduct) and Gurmat (Sikh principles) on the following issues:

• Any form of intoxicants (alcohol, drugs etc) and preparation or consumption of foods such as meat, fish and eggs are not permitted on Gurdwara property.

• Guru-ka-Langar should be prepared and observed in accordance to Gurus' maryada (tradition).

• No person under the influence of intoxicants is allowed inside Gurdwara property.

• Inside the property of the Guru Sahibs, only the recital of Gurbani, katha, kirtan and reccounting of the Gurus' history are permitted.

• Buildings bought or constructed using the Daswand (one tenth of earnings) of the Sikh Sangat or Gurdwara donations are solely to be used to be used for Gurmat purposes and the betterment of society.

• Anand Karajs (Sikh wedding ceremonies) etc must be performed in Gurdwaras in accordance to Gurmat and the Panthic accepted Sikh Rehit Maryada.

• There is no permission granted for dancing and singing or any acts which go against the principles of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

It is definetly worth taking the time out to attend any divans where Baba Baljit Singh will be doing Katha/Dharna. There are very few parcharaks saying the relevant things in Guru Maharajs hazoori. To hear someone openly talk about 1984 Saheeds, Sant Jarnail Singh, Beadbi of Guru Maharaj, Sharab and corruption of committees in a divan is uplifting. He also shatters the preception people have of the chita-chola wala.

To top it Baba Baljit Singh is part of a Jatha of chardi kala Singhs (including the Jathedar of DamDama Sahib) who actively stop and resolve issues where there is beadbi of Guru Maharaj’s saroop.

With all the current issues facing us in the Panth, GurSikhs like Baba Baljit Singh and the DamDama Sahib Jathedar are the kind of leaders we need.

What's the local Gurdwara Committees saying about the incident..It's funny as there was a big Gurdwara meeting in Derby yesterday but this issue was not mentioned....

Grays is a lovely town in Essex. The Gurdwara comprises of this party hall which is joint to the overall Gurdwara Building. There is an door that joins the hall & Gurdwara Langar hall.

Its so blatant that if you ring the Gurdwara and ask if you can book the hall, they will say upfront that meat and alcohol is allowed here!! Many locals have seen the alcohol going through the main entrance of the Gurdwara, into the langar hall and through the door that goes into the party hall.

Need I say more? Try it, give them a ring and say you want to book the hall for your kid's birthday or something, see what they say.

I just rang and spoke to a member of the committe and asked for an 'estimate' for a party do.

I also asked whether I could have meat and alcohol there to which he replied "no, because it is joined to the gurdwara."

Good news as this time last year Grays Gurdwara Committee were allowing meat and sharab in their community hall.

You know what, this is exactly what I'd expect from a "ramgharia" committee, but then again the way things are going this does not surprise me one bit.

It was only a matter of time before the CLUB scene would hit these Gurdwara Committe run Community Halls.

Beadbi at Liquor Shop Prevented by Sangat

West Midlands, UK (KP) – On Saturday 6th May 2006 the Sangat stopped Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Pavitar Saroop from being taken to a liquor shop. On Friday evening, 5th May 2006, reports were received from various sources that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroop was being arranged, by the local Gurdwara management committee, to be taken to an liquor shop (off-license) premises in order to recite the sacred Sukhmani Sahib (the ‘Psalm of Peace’) to seek blessings for the new ownership of the booze shop, which stores and sells alcohol and tobacco.

As the news of the potential blatant contempt of Sikh principles and sacrilege of Guru Ji’s Saroop spread across the UK, members of the Sangat began to arrive at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, West Bromwich Street, Walsall in large numbers during the early hours of Saturday morning in order to resolve the situation and prevent Guru Ji’s Pavitar Saroop from being taken to the liquor shop premises.

At first, a meeting took place between the concerned members of the Sikh Community and the gurdwara management committee of Guru Nanak Gurdwara (West Bromwich Street, Walsall) to try and arrange a solution. The gathered Sangat was informed that the Gurdwara President had ‘cancelled’ the program, and were assured that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Pavitar Saroop would not be taken to a place where alcohol and tobacco are stored and sold.

As the gathered Sangat was about to depart, the Gurdwara Sahib’s treasurer announced in sheer ignorance of the basic Sikh Rehit (code of conduct) that the Guru Sahib’s Pavitar Saroop would indeed be taken there, as the building was “separate from the liquor shop” which was therefore acceptable.

The property had actually been visited by members of the Sangat and it was found that the building was not actually separated to differentiate between where the intoxicants were stored and sold, and the area where Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Prakash had been planned.

After further discussions with the family and the Gurdwara committee it was agreed that Guru Ji’s Saroop would not be disrespected, and that a local granthi Singh could recite Sukhmani Sahib from a Gutka Sahib (small sacred prayer book). This resolution would not have been possible without the pressure from members of the UK Sikh Sangat who peacefully protested outside the Gurdwara Sahib.

To thank Guru Sahib for preventing such a sacrilege, the large group of Sangat assembled together and recited five Benti Chaupai Sahibs and ended the successful peaceful Morcha (protest) upholding Gurmat with an Ardas (prayer of invocation).

Sangat members have expressed that Gurdwara management committees everywhere have been put on notice that they are responsible for where the Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj are taken and should they demonstrate weakness and lapse in their responsibility to maintain basic dignity and sanctity of Guru Sahib and uphold the principles of Gurmat (Sikh Principles) that the Sangat will undoubtedly intervene.
