  2. ive seen an increase amongst the youth wearing kirpan 12" or so massive but yet they havent taken amrit. is this not wrong. then acting cokey when ur given a reaction in public aint clever either.

    wats the sangats views.?

At the Hyde Park march there were monay walking around with long SriSahibs it didn't feel right. It felt like they were doing Guruji's Baydbi.

I know that all the kakaars should be treated equally, but there's something more about the kirpan which requires the individual to have the right frame of mind. Before I took Amrit I wore 4ks for about 6 months, but only started to wear a kirpan a week before the amrit sanchar.

  3. To be honest with you, you will not be able to hide a 12" SriSahib under your shirt or top. Even if you do a short gatra. Maybe just let it be seen and go with the reaction

I wear a 10" SriSahib under my shirt and it's very visable at times. Most people at work now know that I wear a kirpan underneath and have not really asked as many questions as I thought they would.

  4. The 4 books that changed my life and got me into Sikhi were:

    - Divine Mystical Reflections Vol 2 by Saint Scholar Niranjan Singh

    - Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh's Autobigraphy (Jail Chittian)

    - In search of the true Guru - Bhai Rama Singh's Autobiography

    - Society of Saints - Sant Jagjit Singh Herkowalwala's Autobiography

Another good book which I am trying to get hold of is Se Kenhyia (Sant Harnam Singh's autobiography)

  5. *) No Gameboys or any other portable games consols or mobile phones with games. I have seen teenagers playing these during a diwan. (Bad parenting!!)

*) No T-shirts or clothes with offensive writing like FCUK tops or beer ads or anything anti-Gurmat.

  6. Title: Hukamnaama on taking Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji to halls etc

    VahegurujikaKhalsa, VahegurujikiFateh!

    Sangat ji,

If anybody has a copy of the Akaal Takhat Sahib Hukamnaama which prohibited the taking of the Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji to 'palaces', halls etc for weddings - please could you post a copy of it here or email to the following address:

    harpartaap@hotmail.com

This is needed because there may be other Gurdwara committees who are considering doing the same shameful mis-conduct as done by the Milton Keynes Sri Gurdwara Sahib committee.

    Thanks

    Bollywood singhs a new tune

    NIKITA DOVAL

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2003 02:20:44 PM ]

Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt & Sunny Deol play Sikhs in their upcoming movies

It's time for a head-turning twist in the tale. After all, Bollywood stars have now taken to playing the sardar of all reel roles. Here's the big picture: Amitabh Bachchan , Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol sport turbans and thick beards to play Sikhs in their forthcoming films.

While the Big B plays Jagjit Singh Arora, a senior Army officer, in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyon , Sanjay essays the role of Ranjeet Singh, an Army officer who is taken as a prisoner of war (PoW) in Sarhad Paar . Then, Sunny Deol reprises his successful roles as a Sikh in Border and Gadar in director Rahul Rawail's Jo Bole So Nihal.

Interestingly, it seems that the success of Anil Sharma's Gadar , in which Sunny Deol played Tara Singh, has led to this experimentation in characterisation. However, Sharma —now directing Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyon — denies that Amitabh's character is an offshoot of Gadar : "There was a Sikh General in the 1971 and it is on him that I have based Bachchan's character." Gadar's success has made Bollywood appreciate the commercial aspect of casting the hero as a Sikh. But Sarhad Paar director Raman Kumar maintains that "the introduction of a Sikh character in a movie should be required by the script."

According to trade analyst Indu Mirani, "The audienc

e doesn't look at any one character in isolation but a film as a whole... everything has to fall in place." Moreover, industry insiders say that while north India can identify with Sikh characters, the rest of the country might not. "Why not?" counters Sharma, "Sikhs represent India — there is no question of a problem." That's a good enough assurance for the box-office.

  8. Its so sad how some of these people whos last name is 'singh'.. if they are from sikh/punjabi families, how can they be involved in killings of other sikhs.

    So sad........... no.gif

More than likely rajputs or bihari. I doubt that people from sikh/punjabi families were involved, as even monay were attacked by mobs.

  9. Last vaisakhi, at the 'relaxed' Ramgharia Gurdwara there was a family who sang the shabad 'Waho, Waho Gobind Singh'. All the family had blatant trimmed hair and blatant trimmed beards. So when it came to them singing 'Peevo Phaul Khanday Da' it looked odd, it felt odd. It just looked hypocritical.

If there is genuine love for Guruji surely you take the step or aim to take the step to take on Guruji's roop.

    Just my opinion.

  12. ive seen that karamsar guduara alot cause its near me,anyways what is karamsar is it something ot do with nanaksar ?

Gurdwara Karamsar in Ilford was started GurSikhs who were sewadars at RaraSahib Gurdwara. RaraSahib Gurdwara in India was built by Sant Isher Singh Rarewala and Jatha.

Sant Isher Singh Ji was born of Mata Ratan Kaur, in the household of Sardar Ram Singh Nambardar, on 5th August 1905 at village Allowal, district Patiala.

The parents named their son Gulab Singh. Nobody knew that one day this "Gulab" (meaning rose) would spread his fragrance far and wide. He received the basic worldly education from the primary School of village 'Chulela'.

For higher schooling he went to his uncle at Patiala and passed his matriculation examination from the Model School. Thereafter the worldly education could not hold his mind and in the state of asceticism he became the disciple of Sant Attar Singh Ji of Reru Sahib.

By the inspiration of Sant Attar Singh Ji, he took Khande Da Phaul and was renamed Isher Singh. Thus motivated by the life and teachings of Sant Attar Singh Ji, he adopted the path of devotion and from him received the boon of propagating Sikhism through "Kirtan" (singing of hymns).

When on 21st January 1927 Sant Attar Singh Ji left his corporeal being. Sant Isher Singh Ji became sad and disconsol

ate. In order to overcome this despondency, he set out on pilgrimage. After visiting Machiwara, Kiratpur Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Nankana Sahib and Punja Sahib he came to Rara Sahib and settled here.

By virtue of his devotion he turned this deserted place into a sacred place that has become famous the world over. "A saint remembers the God and helps others remember Him also" following this principle he devoted himself to worship and motivated the people to be 'Gur-sikhs' and to follow the path, shown by the Sikh Gurus.

  13. there were some raagis i saw doing asa di // (i thnk) today. the main singer is blind and i think he has been around other parts of Uk because of rein-subhai. he has a white turban and normally yellow kurtha (same applies to his jatha) whats his name, is he from anandpur sahib by any chance?

which gurdwara are these sants based at (in leicester) holy bones or east park road?

I think this is Bhai Sahib Mohinder Singh's Jatha from Ponta Sahib. They were in Karamsar Gurdwara, Ilford for a while. I think they are mainly based in Manchester in the UK.
