  1. in the words of videographer of this wedding

"On May 28, 2011, Benny and Sachi became husband and wife. We were so honored that they contracted us from California to fly to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to cover their two day wedding festivities. They hosted two ceremonies at the Genetti hotel on the wedding day. The first was Anand Karaj, Sikh ceremony, which were held according to the groom's customs. The second was the Hindu ceremony, which were held according to the bride's customs. The reception followed at the same location, where they served traditional Indian cuisine, had family and friends perform and danced the night away to the sounds of Raaz Entertainment"

Is anyone in the California part of the world able able to find out who the Granthis/Ragis are?

  2. Sangat TV hosted their own live "conference" last night in competition to Sikh Channel's live Pashatpa samagam from Ealing Gurdwara. Must admit, Sangat TV got the one up on Sikh Channel as the main Jathedbhandi leaders were there.

It did feel like some of the Jathebhandi leaders continually felt they had to attempt to justify what they have been doing to combat beadbi over the last 30 years as defense to comments from the Youth at the Sikh Channel show last week. I think it's more paranoia then anything, steming from a lack of naujwaan in roles of leadership. Due to the non-existance of naujwaan in these positions, perhaps some of the the elders feel a sense of threat from naujwaan, I certainly felt last nights Sangat TV show showed that.

Nevertheless, these generation gaps need to be bridged sooner rather than later because they are nothing more than misunderstandings and miscommunications.

  3. Having watched the programme last night, and read some of these comments, i think we have a lot of misguided individuals within the Sikh Youth of today!

There was a lot of disrespect to the established Sikh Jathibandhian in the UK last night by the youth led by Kam Singh, which frankly is totaly unacceptable!! if it was not for these organisations, we would not have any gurdwara in the UK nor would the UK Sikhs be in such a prosperous religious state. Just compare the UK to the Punjab?? there is very little if any true Sikhi at the pind level, but there are plenty of BABA around, and coming to the uk for money!!

Well my key point is, to all the Youths yesterday, firstly have you ever been part of the UK organisations?? have you made any contribution to them?? Then why criticise if you have no facts, and just being influenced by people with other agendas!!! cant Believe the youth of today are so blinded after years of falling into this simple trap! If you really want to take action, then join an active organisation and then be part of the solution!

If not which is what i think, then you have NO idea of the projects they have completed or the money they have sent back to the punjab and the shaeedh families!! We live in a very politically sensitive world now, even more so following the banning of the ISYF & BK in the UK in 2001. Having had first had experience of the Sikh Federation and organisations in Punjab, there is NO one or NO organisation that can even compare themselves to the achievements of the Sikh Federation UK. Just read their annual report for proof!!! I ask which other Sikh org worldwide publishes an annual report?? the proof is in the action.. what org has a structured Sikh Agenda, national support and membership and is actually executing against their objectives and plans........the Answer is NO ONE!!! the SFUK is the only UK org that is recognised by all 3 political parties in the UK and has taken the lead on major issues like the 5 K's discrimination and Dastaar issue across the EU.

If anyone has any doubt then please attend the Annual Convention in Wolverhampton on Sun 18th Sep and feel free to ask any questions!

There was so many defensive paranoid people on the show. No one directly attacked any jathebhandi or elder or youth watch it again. But there were numerous individuals whose guards were up.

The voices expressed were clearly a collective expresion of frustation for the circumstances now not the past. Jathebhandi's sewa of the past can be negated by what seems to be a lack of sewa today. The discussion was about current issues which the Jathebhandis seem to be happy to sweep under the carpet by scapegoating youth or Kam Singh.

  4. URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT:

    International Sikh Conference 2011

    Sunday 21st August at 6pm.

To discuss and implement action plan to tackle ongoing

Beadbi (Disrespect) to Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

Reguest to all Sangat and Youth to attend Sikh Channel Studio:

    Unit 3,

    Avenue Road,

    Aston,

    Birmingham

    B6 4DY

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZG0pJnSzY4

Unless Panthic vocal youth step up to taking responsibility, this conference will more than likely be hijacked by the usual "do nothing" limelight seeking jathebhandis with no clear strategy.

Time to grow up and take our voice beyond sikhsangat.com, facebook and other social medias!!!

If you have a Panthic voice then please attend and help set a new course of direction to tackle the on-going BEADBI in the UK, India and the rest of the world.

Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj...

  6. I admire their artistic flare but do question whether they are sensationalising the "street" more than what it actually is.

Each to their own. I would rather a young punjabi lad who has an affiliation to hip hop listens to their message rather than some black gangsta. Some of Sikh Unit's stuff has a Sikhi focused message but some of it is just typical gangsta dreams!

  7. There have been several groups of black youth continually circling Gurdwara Singh Sabha Barking in cars/mopeds over the last hour. There is a presence of Singhs outside the Gurdwara, however more Singhs are now gathering outside this Gurdwara as a precautionary measure.

  8. Groups of Singhs have started gathering around the East London/Ilford Gurdwaras as there have been elements of mob disorder in East Ham, Ilford and Romford. An incident took place earlier at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Barking where some missiles or bricks were thrown at the Gurdwara. The mob were quickly moved on by the Police.

There are now groups of Singhs gathering around:

    Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar Manor Park

    Gurdwara Karamsar Ilford

    Gurdwara Singh Sabha Barking

    Gurdwara Singh Sabha Seven Kings

Mata Sahib Kaur Academy Newbury Park

Local Singhs needed to gather around Ramgharia Gurdwara, Forest Gate.

  9. Unlike Jalandersher "who is not Ramgharia", I was born into families you openly promoted what I would term"Ramghariaism".

It's a common ethos about Baba Vishkarma that's propagated in many families that classify themselves as "Ramgharia". See this link on a very Ramgharia website http://www.ramgarhiakom.com/com/vishav_main.html

Many Ramgharia Gurdwaras do not discourage the worship of Baba Vishkarma and I witnessed Ramgharia Coventry around 7 years ago do a Gurdwara programme to celebrate Vishkarama Day (around diwali) which ironically fell on the same day as Baba Deep Singh's Shaheedi Purb. Sadly there was no remembrance of Mahan Baba Deep Singh on the day.

Reference to Nairobi (as per Jalendersher's previous posting), Ramgharia Gurdwara Pangani used to celebrate Vishkaram Diwas, certainly did in 1989 when I was in Nairobi.

Regarding Jalandershers references to Santji being the blame for the Genocide that the Indian Army/ Govt/Punjab Police carried out on civilians is just basede on the prejudices and theories that are pushed around in some pro-Congress/Ramgharia circles. I certainly grew up on those theories until I spent time and interacted with Mahapurshs and Gursikhs who gave me more Gian than the pardaan at the Ramgharia Gurdwara I grew up in did.

It's a sad fact some of Ramgharia Gurdwaras today promote meat and alcohol in halls run and governed by the Gurdwara Committee. They even call them Ramgharia Halls. It's something even you Jalendersher cannot deny. If you want proof ring up the committee offices of Leeds, Coventry, Woolwich, Small Heath and book the hall for a party.

  10. I get the impression that the speakers on our Gurudwara stages are hoping that if they don't give the alcohol issue any "publicity", it might just go away. :umm:

Could I be wrong in saying that some people actually consider it to be beadbi to mention sharaab in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib? Even a lengthy discussion on the issue (in the company of SGGS Ji) in a non-religious context might not be looked upon favourably? Although saying that, I'm 100% certain there's references to alcohol in the SGGS Ji so it can't be that.

But yeah, any criticism of sharaab on the Gurughar stage might negatively affect the profit margin of associated cultural centres, etc.

It is more to do with pleasing the target audience. The parchaar from the stages is often packaged towards satifying the punters and not over challenging their lifestyles. Buzz words like "Gurmukh" or "Gursikh" are used to describe any family that books a programme in the Gurdawara. The stages do not challenge the activities of sharab drinking which will take place directly after the Anand Karaj, instead they announce the venue where the sharab will be served.

The ignorance of discussing high Alcohol consumption in Sikhs has lead to the problem compounding over the years. We are not admitting we have the problem and simply watch our Uncles pass away one by one from liver failures.

  11. Day 1 was great, try to make it tomorrow if you can

Artmental, I admire your committment to making sure there's some good parchar aimed at youth in the Ramgharia Gurdwara Cov. Out of curiousity, does the pardaan or main committee make it to these morning diwans?

Please do a benti to Bhai Sahib Bhai Devinder Singh Ji to do ardas in the diwan so that the committee of Ramgharia Coventry become Gurmukhs and stop the sharab in the Gurdwara Hall.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib explained to Bhai Mihan about how the goodness of sewa is defeated if one still carries on with manmat. Just like the elephant’s bath, for the moment the elephant gets out of the water it scatters dust all over its body again. Similarly, where will all this good Sikhi parchar go if every weekend anti-Sikhi activities happen in the same complex.

Isn't it now time for the Ramgharia Committee to man up to being Gursikhs? Take the sharab out of the Gurdwara!

I hope people do inform Bhai Sahib Ji in advance of what certain Gurdwara committees that he is visiting are associated with and their flagarent abuse of Akal Takht Sahib. I'm sure if Bhai Sahib knew he would say something blatant about it.

  12. The website has a blatant section where Gays, Lesbians and Bis*xuals can pick each other up. Also promotes the idea of MOC (Marriage of Conveniences) for Gays and Lesbians so that they please their Sikh families and carry on their lifestyles behind closed doors. The website talks about fetish's and promotes ideas of promiscuous relationships.

I have no issue with someones s*xual orientation as it's their personal conditioned choice, but don't justify it by bringing your own self manufactured "Sikh" angle.

  13. Call up the Sikh Channel as ask them why they pulled the plug on the Sunday evening youth show hosted by Kam Singh! According to them it wasn't liked by all and did not fit into their new brand of "bland yawn" discussion programmes. Please express your opinion directly to Avtar Dhillon or Dav Bal

  14. If Sikh Channel allow the Sunday evening Youth Show to carry on, it's only because it brings in high viewer figures.

On one side Avtar, the Controller of Sikh Channel, openly makes claims he "sacked" Kam Singh to the Parbhandaks Sikh Channel suck up to and then on the other side SC are now trying to keep the Kam Singh Youth Show format due to the fear of loosing viewer ratings. Also Sikh Channel are now nervous as Sangat TV has invited Kam Singh and the SYP to carry the live show format on their channel at the same time if required.

Let's see what happens this Sunday...

  15. Reading the opinions of contributors on sikhphilosophy.net, I'm very surprised how differently they're approaching this issue. Oh well you learn something new everyday I suppose.

The gentleman Randip Singh, who I think moderates and regularly posts on sikhphilosphy.net, is a disgruntled ex-Sikhsangat.com poster. He has it in for anyone that isn't him, so I wouldn't take the comments on sikhphilosophy.net seriously. They're just presenting a whole load of "half-truths" to portray the whole protest as mindless violence.

There's some pictures on Panthic Weekly article that capture the real side of the protest.

    http://www.panthic.org/articles/5357

You can clearly see the profile of Sikhs who attended from kids to elders.

  16. Sikh Channel is cashing in on the propoganda. They obviously wanted one up on Sangat TV and Sikh TV by showing the clips of bias footage instead of the whole protest

The person now running the channel is someone called Avtar Singh who is nephew of Davy Bal. If you ring the channel then they are passing the buck to him in the Sikh CHannel and claim he wanted to show the clip and wrote the comments comparing the "removal" of the some alleged committee members dastaar to the mohali incident. Yet Avtaar of the Sikh CHannel fails to be able to provide the name of this committee member.

Pls call Avtaar - the new operator of the Sikh Channel and ask him why he only showed the negative footage. Sikh Channel need to provide an explanation of why they only selected the negative footage to show.

  17. Why didn't Sikh Channel show the Simran, Chaupai Sahib, Ardaas, Meeting with Committee/Trustees, the nagara etc?

Why the dangerous bias from the Sikh Channel? Sangat TV did a good job projecting the protest on their earlier show covering the real element of the protest whilst also discussing the disorder that took place

There's no denying that there was some disorder and the Police will no doubt investigate as is their job, but the protest largely revolved around Singhs, Singhniya and kids sitting down doing chaupai sahib and simran to the beat of a nagara.....

The fact that Sikh Channel specifically showed damaging footage makes me think there's a bias agenda. At least show the balanced side of the protest!
