  9. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.outlookindia.com/full.asp?fodna...F%29&sid=1&pn=1 A Still-Born Labour Caution won over bravado as Labour realised a Modi trip would hamper either Hindu or Muslim votes SANJAY SURI Leaders love the lights, but Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was not coming to London just to watch Gujarati folk dance at the 'Vibrant Gujarat' show at the Royal Albert Hall, or even to announce some new multi-crore investment by some British Gujarati. In the shadows of what turned out to be a non-visit lay the political agenda of building up a Hindu candidate for the British Parliament. An Operation Hindu Vote has been going on for a little more than a year in Britain now. It's an attempt to harness the community vote so as to get something back via the MPs who benefit from it. "We are getting in touch with other Hindu leaders, and we want to launch the initiative countrywide," Kanti Patel from the Operation Hindu Vote campaign told Outlook earlier. Modi in Britain would have helped Labour in Gujarati-heavy areas at a time when Tories are chasing its tail. But beyond the attempt to generate a Hindu vote, these are moves to get someone politically Hindu into Parliament. Labour MP Ashok Kumar is Hindu, but not the kind of political Hindu these groups want. The House of Commons, they believe, needs an MP of the Hindutva stamp. "Several people in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Sangh parivar believe they need to make inroads within Labour through the notion that Hindus are being discriminated against. Some people will be sympathetic to the idea that there should be a Hindu MP," Suresh Grover, director of The Monitoring Group, an independent body that studies community relations in Britain, told Outlook. But their politics and the reasoning behind it could do a lot of damage, he warned. Nevertheless, this is the game where Modi counts as no other. No candidate contesting from a Gujarati-heavy constituency could be better blessed than by Modi, hero to large numbers of Hindu Gujaratis. But none was thought more likely to gain than Modi's two political representatives in Britain, both members of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), the British wing of the RSS, and both members of the Labour Party. The two also hold key positions on behalf of the Indian government and business. Of the two, Manoj Ladwa, Modi's feet-touching representative and spokesman, is also Britain representative of FICCI, to which he was appointed during the BJP government days. Ladwa eulogised Modi at a meeting during his last visit to Britain in 2003, and stoutly defended him before hostile media and political groups. Modi and the Gujarat government were represented also by Vikas Pota and his company named—rather appropriately—Saffron Chase. In an unusual privatisation of Indian diplomacy, Pota was also engaged by the Indian High Commission in 2001 to deal with the Labour Party on its behalf through the Labour Friends of India group. For years now the Indian government has effectively talked to the Labour Party through a middleman who is a British citizen with an RSS background. And he and Ladwa still continue in their posts despite the change in government in New Delhi. Ladwa denies he is looking for a Labour parliamentary ticket; Pota says "no plans or ambitions of contesting exist". These are not the kind of plans or ambitions anyone declares publicly before the time has come. But just about everyone in political circles see the two grooming themselves for Parliament. "We would be very surprised if one of them or some other Hindu candidate is not sent into Parliament soon," a senior member of the Overseas Friends of the BJP said. Good then to have Modi by your side. "They are among Modi's main contacts in Britain and they wanted him to come. Without any doubt these people would have used their association with Modi to build themselves up. They see his popularity among Gujaratis as having an impact on their popularity," Grover said. A visible association with Modi would have come this time before an audience of about 5,000 at the Royal Albert Hall, a massive number considering the small victory margins in British constituencies. This number would have been further enhanced through broadcast of the event on Sony Television. To the Labour Party these could add up to mouth-watering numbers in Gujarati-heavy constituencies in times when it finds the Tories getting closer and closer to its tail. "We believe there are at least 30 constituencies where the Hindu vote can make a difference," says a member of the Hindu Forum. In the end, the visit came unstuck after Labour leaders gathered that Modi's presence in Britain could lose them chunks of either the Hindu or the Muslim vote, depending on how the visit shaped up. That choice became stark at an event for presenting The Muslim News Awards for Excellence on March 23, when the controversy over the denial of the visa by the US was at its peak. Imran Khan, the leading solicitor in Britain taking up political Muslim issues, announced at the function that he would secure a warrant from a court to get Modi arrested on his arrival in Britain. Chancellor of the Exchequer (finance minister) Gordon Brown and Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy were among the guests. The message could not have been conveyed more directly. As such, the denial of the visa by the US couldn't have come at a more inopportune moment. The refusal was certain to be cited in arguments before a court. The plea to court would have had a British basis because three British nationals had died in the Gujarat riots of 2002. Though attempts at arrest through court action weren't likely to succeed, as they did not before Modi's 2003 visit, Khan's threat won strong backing at the Muslim gathering. It sent worrying messages to Labour leaders: if the government refused to arrest Modi, it could anger Muslim voters; if it did, it inevitably would alienate many Hindu voters. The most suitable outcome for the government was to see that Modi kept away from London voluntarily and steer clear of a crisis that could have hurt Labour one way or another. Indeed, it suited everyone except Modi and his men that he stay back; and yet everyone says Modi took the decision on his own, and they had nothing to do with it. A British spokesman in New Delhi had said that Modi had a multi-entry visa, and that there were no grounds to refuse him a private visit. Modi's office in Ahmedabad said he was persuaded by the central government to stay back for security reasons. The pmo denied talking to Modi. You'd think that Modi just decided that London was not for him at this time of the year. Or that he was scared away by hints that his life would be in danger. Hindu leaders close to Modi say HSS volunteers in Britain had offered to take full charge of security for Modi. "If he can move around Gujarat, he is not going to be scared coming to London," a keen BJP supporter said. The supporter and others believe that it was finally some of Modi's own supporters who were made instrumental in persuading him to cancel his visit. The politics of the Hindu and the Muslim vote hung heavy over the end of the loaded non-visit, as it had over the beginning. for further info see: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.ppa?showtopic=10289
  10. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.ppa?content_id=67459 Ministry to table Nanavati panel ATR this session EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE Posted online: Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 0105 hours IST NEW DELHI, MARCH 30: The Union Home Ministry is giving final touches to the action taken report (ATR) of the Nanavati Commission which probed the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The ATR will be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval soon. Home Minister Shivraj Patil today discussed the report with senior Ministry officials, including Home Secretary Dhirendra Singh. The officials said the Ministry intends to place the report before Parliament in the current session. They refused to reveal the details of the ATR but claimed it contained nothing that could leave the UPA Government red in the face. Apart from the Nanavati Commission, at least 10 other probe panels have inquired into the 1984 riots and action taken report for each have been tabled in Parliament. The officials contended that many of the recommendations of the Nanavati Commission have also figured in previous commissions, in some form or the other, and action has been initiated by the Ministry too. In addition, the courts have proceeded against some of the suspects. And several of them have been acquitted due to lack of evidence. ------------- Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.punjabjustice.org http://www.witness84.com http://www.carnage84.com http://www.ensaaf.org http://www.shrg.org

The IHRO release issued to the press here stated, ‘‘It is the height of the state’s repression let loose on the prosecuting team including witnesses and Khalra’s advocate Barjinder Singh Sodhi. And it is not only the denial of justice and negation of the rule of law but also exposes the intriguing silence maintained by the justice system, more disgustingly by the higher judiciary.’’ Human Rights group’s chairperson D S Gill and secretary general M S Grewal, in their statement, added, ‘‘We need to bridle the state’s (police) high-handedness, criminal intimidation and atrocious behaviour against its citizens, especially lawyers defending victims in law courts, in order to protect the judicial system so that it could render fair justice to the people.’’ And for that, the IHRO activists said, all human rights groups active in the state have decided, in their conference call meeting, to file a writ petition in the high court and to take up the matter with lawyers fraternity including Punjab and Haryana Bar Council, if need be. Terming the case as one of international importance because the deceased Khalra dared to expose the fascist face of the state (police), the release further stated that the writ petition would seek suspension of the accused officials from the service and cancellation of their bails besides seeking security for the defence counsel and witnesses. ‘‘And that was the motive of liquidating him (Khalra) after making the enforced disappearance,’’ the statement added. ------------- Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.punjabjustice.org http://www.witness84.com http://www.carnage84.com http://www.ensaaf.org http://www.shrg.org

Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.panthic.org/news/125/ARTICLE/11...bbcf1eb862ea7c0 Lawyer in Khalra case receives death threats Sunday 27th March, 2005 Ajaib Singh - Panthic Weekly Staff Mass Murderer K.P. Gill is accused of masterminding the conspiracy to Kill Jaswant Singh Khalra (File Photo, BBC) Patiala (KP) - Brijinder Singh Sodhi, Prosecution lawyer and human rights activist claimed that on Thursday he had been threatened by a police officer on the court premises. Mr Sodhi said that Surinderpal Singh (a police officer), who is accused in the Jaswant Singh Khalra disappearance case and was the Station House Officer of Sarhali in Tarn Taran when Khalra was kidnapped in 1995, threatened to kill him. He stated that the officer told him “earlier we might have broken your legs but now we will have to kill you”. The lawyer said this threat came blatantly after he kept receiving a number of threatening phone calls for the past week . He said the calls were apparently made from numbers which were not listed and that the callers appeared to be intoxicated while threatening him with death if he persisted in appearing for the prosecution in the case. Mr Sodhi told reporters that he will be contacting the court of Additional Session Judge S.P. Bangarh, the President, Prime Minister and other senior officials with the relevant details about the threat . He also indicated that if anything happened to him or his family in the near future, the accused police officials in the Khalra case would be responsible for it. When asked whether he reported it to the local police, Mr Sodhi said he had not, as he did not have any faith in them. When questioned about this incident, Defence lawyer Satnam Singh said that if Mr Sodhi received any threat from one of the accused he should have informed the court. He also noted that in the three years that the case is being held in Patiala this is the first time an allegation of this sort is being made. He also stated if indeed such an incident had occured it was very unfortunate. 13. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=4333791 Thu 31 Mar 2005 Id Cards: Public 'Expects Problems' By David Barrett, PA Home Affairs Correspondent Many people have misconceptions about the plan to introduce national ID cards and most expect the scheme’s introduction to be problematic, Government-commissioned research showed today. The report looked at the perception of the plans held by a wide range of people, particularly minorities including gypsies, the disabled and Muslims. It found that expectations of the process of enrolling for one of the new cards were “typically low”, adding: “Most people assumed there would be problems. “In particular people expected that if they made an appointment at an enrolment centre this might be delayed or involve a long wait.” One interviewee quoted in the research said: “If it’s anything like going for a hospital appointment it’s like half a day.” The paper also found some hostility towards the Government’s motives for introducing the cards. “There was feeling among a substantial minority that the Government was using ID cards as a smokescreen to mask perceived lack of progress in areas the system was trying to address, particularly illegal immigration,” it said. Sikhs and Muslim women were concerned about the removal of religious garments for the ID card photograph. There were also “widespread worries” about the security of information on the proposed National Identity Register and the consequences of ID cards being lost or stolen, the paper said. Overall support for the scheme was “strong”, it added. But many people wrongly believed the card would be compulsory to carry when in fact it will only be compulsory to possess a card, the report said. The document suggested enrolment centres – where all adults will have to go to give their biometric details such as fingerprints – should be within 30 to 45 minutes’ travelling time. They should be open from 8am to 9pm on weekdays and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sunday, it recommended, and that staff should be able to deal sensitively with the disabled. Muslim women who wear burkhas should be reassured that they would not have to remove the garment in the presence of men, it said, as with Jewish women who wear wigs and Sikh men with turbans. The research, commissioned for the Home Office by COI Communications from Cragg Ross Dawson, involved 16 focus group sessions, and 18 individual interviews with disabled and disadvantaged groups.

The Minority Commission Chairman said that he had urged the central government to put a check on such trips Amrita Chaudhry Ludhiana, March 30: MINORITY Commission Chairman and MP, Tarlochan Singh said that he took up the issue of release of all Sikh youths languishing in various jails with the Union Government. Singh was in the city on a personal visit. Speaking with Newsline, the Minorities Commission Chairman said, ‘‘I raised this issue in the parliament and was supported by senior Congress leader Ambika Soni. Consequently, the Home Minister assured me that he would look into the matter.’’ Singh added, ‘‘I have urged the Government of India to release all the Sikh youths who have served sentences in various jails. There are many young boys who are still facing trials and some of whom are in foreign countries and have been nabbed by police.’’ Coming down heavily on the Punjab Police, Singh said, ‘‘The police is fond of jaunting in foreign lands and is always trying to find ways to go on one.’’ Citing one such example, he said, ‘‘The official trip to unearth a 15-year-old case and nabbing the terrorist involved is nothing less than a vacation. I have asked the Government of India to put a check on such trips.’’ However, the chairman refused to comment on bringing to book the guilty of 1984 anti-Sikh riots saying, ‘‘We will wait for the Nanavati Commission’s report for that. I have asked the Centre to the Minorities Commission a copy of the report. The Commission has not received the copy yet.’’ Gill alias Kuki he had made a special reference to Ranjit Singh Gill alias Kuki who is serving life imprisonment for the conviction in trade union leader Ajay Maken and his wife Gitanjali Maken’s case. Kuki has served more than 16 years in Tihar Jail and his case for release is due for hearing in both the Supreme Court as well as the Pardon Committee of Government of Delhi.

Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.panthic.org/news/125/ARTICLE/1165/2005-03-27.html CBI to Find Missing Sikh Books and Manuscripts Sunday 27th March, 2005 Gurleen Kaur - Panthic Weekly Staff Delhi (KP) - The Central Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the case of missing books and manuscripts from Sri Harimandar Sahib after 'Operation Blue Star'. In a written statement, Indian Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal stated that these books and manuscripts were removed by the army, however, were not restored to the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) after. From the items that were removed during the attack, more then 4000 document, books, gold and silver ornaments, precious stones, and money was recovered and returned to either the SGPC or to the Punjab government, excluding some documents that were thought to be objectionable and therefore were instead destroyed. A few other documents were held and used in court. The CBI has been asked to start an investigation into the whereabouts of the remaining books and manuscripts. In the 1980s, many Sikhs in Punjab called upon the Indian government to recognize their state and the people of Punjab. After being pushed aside, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale took a stand against the Indian Government. Feeling the need to eliminate this voice asking for justice and human rights, the Indian government attacked Sri Harimandar Sahib, where Sant Ji resided. This was the beginning of much blood shed and the genocide that was to follow after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated for her involvement in the attack. 17. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.awaazsaw.org/awaaz_hinduk.htm The Sangh Parivar in the UK The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) is the RSS's representative in the UK. It has several affiliated organisations active across the UK. The family of HSS–affiliated organisations is called the 'sangh parivar' or 'sangh'. All these organisations promote the political and fascistic ideology of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism), the founding ideology of the Indian RSS. The UK sangh parivar includes: The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS UK, charity number: 267309). The HSS has existed in the UK since the mid–1960s, and was registered as a charity in April 1974. In 2002 it had about 70 branches (shakhas) nationally. It is the core organisation to which the other organisations below are affiliated to. Its central office is based in Leicester. It maintains regular links with the Indian RSS. The HSS UK is based on the same ideology of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) as the Indian RSS. Its shakhas are based on similar methods of physical training and ideological inculcation as those of the Indian RSS. This includes devotional reverence to K. B. Hedgewar (the founder of the Indian RSS in 1924, and promoter of Mussolini's fascist ideas in India) and M. S. Golwalkar (the second Indian RSS leader who was sympathetic to German Nazism), prayer to the bhagwa dhwaj (saffron flag), and propagation of Hindutva ideology among recruits. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP UK). This was formed in the UK in 1971 and registered as a charity in August 1972 (charity number 262684). It is affiliated to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad International and maintains strong links with the Indian VHP. The VHP in India has been at the forefront of violent Hindutva campaigns against Muslims, Christians and secularists. The VHP UK has organised events in the UK in support of the Indian VHP's agenda, including the 1989 Virat Hindu Sammelan in Milton Keynes, which included demanding that a Ram temple be built at the site of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. SEWA International UK (SI). The HSS's fundraising wing. Its main fundraising activities are for RSS–led projects in India. It is not a registered charity, but uses the charity number of the HSS UK in its fundraising campaigns. It is a limited company (company number 04482628) incorporated in July 2002. It shares the same address as the HSS. The charity work of the HSS (and the Indian RSS) took off on a large scale from 1989, the year in which the RSS celebrated the birth centenary of the founder of the Indian RSS, K. B. Hedgewar. Hindu Sevika Samiti UK – this is the HSS's women's affiliate and organises over 30 shakhas across the UK. Kalyan Ashram Trust (KAT). Another fundraising organisation that raises funds for Indian RSS projects among adivasi populations to inculcate them in the ideology of Hindutva. It is a registered charity (charity number 261327) and shares the same address as the HSS. Overseas Friends of the BJP – this organises lobbying and support for the Hindu nationalist BJP political party. Friends of India Society International (FISI) – formed in October 1975. National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF) – the largest body of Hindu students in the UK. The NHSF was created with HSS support and its UK offices shared the same address as the HSS. Hindu Sahitya Kendra (HSK) – a Hindutva literature dissemination centre. Political links The UK HSS and UK VHP cannot claim they are unrelated to the Indian RSS and Indian VHP. There are regular political links and meetings between the UK HSS and VHP and the Indian RSS and VHP. For example: On August 27 2000, the Supreme leader of the Indian RSS, K. S. Sudarshan met with several hundred HSS UK members, and representatives of various UK sangh parivar organisations. The Central office of the UK HSS was inaugurated in 1996 by the then Supreme Leader of the Indian RSS, Rajendra Singh. 60 HSS workers and VHP UK representatives attended the World RSS Camp held in Bombay in December 2000 – January 2001, and 34 HSS members attended the Vishwa Vibhag (International) Shiksha Varg at Bangalore in August 2001. The Chair of the UK VHP attended an international meeting of the Indian VHP held at Ahmedabad in December 2000. Sangh parivar members attended a reception in honour of BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee on 12 November 2001 In 1999 HSS members visited RSS branches in Jammu and Kashmir, and attended meetings of the Jammu and Kashmir VHP. The President of the Indian RSS's affiliate Rashtriya Singh Sangat visited and talked to HSS gatherings in London, Leicester, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Ilford in 1999. The Bauddhik Pramukh (Chief Ideology Propagator) of the Indian RSS attended both the HSS Sangh Shiksha Varg (annual camp) and the VHP's Dharma Sansad (religious conclave) held in Leicester on 4 August 2001. The Sangh Shiksha Varg (Europe) Leicester, 28 July–6 August 2000, which is the HSS's annual residential camp, was attended by the Sah–Sampark Pramukh of the Indian RSS. A parallel HSS event held at the same time in Rotterdam was attended by VHP UK representatives as well as Swami Satyamitranand Giri, an important supporter of VHP activities in India, and also the patron of the UK VHP. The World Hindu Conference 2000 in Trinidad and Tobago, was attended both by HSS UK members and by Ashok Singhal (a general secretary of the Indian VHP) and K. S. Sudarshan (the Supreme leader of the Indian RSS). The UK HSS newsletter, Sangh Sandesh regularly includes material from Indian RSS and VHP writers, events, campaigns. This includes regular reports on the leadership, structure and policy of the Indian RSS. Ideological links The UK HSS and UK VHP are committed to the ideology of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism) which is the core ideology of the Indian RSS and Indian VHP. Central to UK HSS shakhas (branches) is veneration of the founder of the Indian RSS (K. B. Hedgewar) and the RSS's second Supreme leader (M. S. Golwalkar). The UK HSS's philosophy (sangh darshan) is identical to that of the Indian RSS, and includes Hindutva (Hindu nationalism), sangathan (the need to organise, build and strengthen Hindus) and shakha (physical exercise and ideological inculcation of Hindu youths). The VHP UK has also actively supported the work of the VHP in India. The HSS and the Hindu Sahitya Kendra actively promote the writings of Hindutva ideologues such as Golwalkar, Savarkar, as well as current senior Indian RSS leaders, such as H. V. Seshadri. Financial links The VHP had an 'Ayodhya Temple Fund' from the mid–1990s. A registered charity in the UK was raising funds in connecting with the violent political campaign by the VHP in India to destroy the Babri Masjid and build a Ram temple in its place. The main financial link between the UK sangh parivar and the Indian sangh parivar is through the activities of Sewa International and the Kalyan Ashram Trust, both fundraising arms of the UK HSS. Sewa International claims to have raised £4.3 million in connection with the Gujarat Earthquake (2001). Sewa International also raises funds for a range of other sectarian projects in India, most of which are RSS projects aimed at adivasi communities and the poor. These include the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in India, which a Channel 4 News report in 2002 claimed was directly involved in violence and atrocities against Christian and Muslim communities in Gujarat in 1998–1999 and in 2002. Sewa International UK raises funds for Sewa Bharati (the RSS's sectarian welfare wing). Sewa International UK funds a range of projects in India (including one–teacher schools — ekal vidyalayas, and RSS / Vidya Bharati schools) whose aim is to oppose other religious traditions and inculcate the ideology of Hindutva among recipients of RSS–style education. This is not neutral humanitarian and educational aid but a highly political and sectarian set of activities. The international website of Sewa International (www.sewainternational.org) describes its projects among adivasi children as building feelings of patriotism and strong character, infusing in advasis the love for the nation. The students staying in Sewa–funded hostels are inculcated in 'patriotism'. The parents of these students 'have developed the same following as their children and are always ready to join hands with our army in protecting the borders' . It describes the need for 'dharmic education and samskar' , and how because of the RSS's mission 'hundreds of supported villagers have now developed respect for Hindutwa and have shown willingness to do their mile for the cause of the Hindus.' The necessity of creating shakhas and gaining recruits for the RSS's sectarian and communal projects is stressed throughout . The involvement of RSS and VHP senior leaders is evident in Sewa's activities, as is the necessity of opposing charitable efforts organised by Christians, the need to build Hindu temples and change the names of villages from Muslim to Hindu names. The VHP Ilford Hindu Centre website (we have this archived) mentions the VHP–UK Gujarat Earthquake Fund and states that the VHP is a registered charity in the UK. It lists its projects as: Restoration of Bet Dwarka temple, which includes reconstruction of main temple, a dining hall for 3,000 Hindu pilgrims, and the reconstruction of Dharamshala. Ekal Vidyalaya / Gram Shikshan Mandir in Rajasthan. Under these projects, it says villages in border areas will have education centres that impart training in Gram Samaj Samarastha – inculcation of social integration – Gram Samarakshan (village defence) and Rashtra Raksha (national defence) Sangh parivar organisations receive, or have received in the past, funding from the London Borough of Croydon, London Borough of Brent, London Borough of Waltham Forest, Bradford City Council, Leeds City Council, Coventry City Council, Awards for All. Sangh parivar organisations have received patronage from Lord Mayors in several towns and boroughs including Coventry, Tooting, Wandsworth, Brent and Bradford. They receive active support from some MPs, including Barry Gardiner MP. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://www.milligazette.com/Archives/2004/...63011200483.htm Genocide '84: long search for culprits/RSS angle By Shamsul Islam Full 20 years have elapsed since genocide of Sikhs took place in November 1984. Despite the constitution of innumerable high-power committees, police investigation teams and commissions these are few small fries who have been booked; the real culprits are still eluding the call of justice. The Nanavati Commission which was constituted in 2002 has recently been given another extension till December 2004. The reality is that in last 20 years though the country has been ruled by every shade of political opinion there has been no political will to prosecute the culprits. It is generally believed that the Congress cadres were behind this genocide. This may be true but there were other forces too which actively participated in this massacre and whose role has never been investigated. Those who were witness to the genocide of 1984 were stunned by the swiftness and military precision of the killer marauding gangs (later on witnessed during the Babri mosque demolition, burning alive of Dr. Graham Steins with his two sons and recent pogrom of the Muslims in Gujarat) who went on a burning spree of the innocent Sikhs. This was beyond the capacity of the Congress thugs. Recently, a crucial document has surfaced which may throw some light on the unhidden aspects of the genocide. It was authored and circulated by a luminary and veteran of the RSS, Nana Deshmukh on November 8, 1984. Interestingly, this document was published in the Hindi Weekly Pratipaksh edited by George Fernandes (Defence Minister of India 1999-2004, and presently a great pal of the RSS) in its edition of November 25, 1984 titled ‘Indira Congress-RSS collusion’ with the following editorial comment: “The author of the following document is known as an ideologue and policy formulator of the RSS. After the killing of Prime Minister (Indira Gandhi) he distributed this document among prominent politicians. It has a historical significance that is why we have decided to publish it, violating policy of our Weekly. This document highlights the new affinities developing between the Indira Congress and the RSS. We produce here the Hindi translation of the document.” This document may help in unmasking the whole lot of criminals involved in the massacre of innocent Sikhs who had nothing to do with the killing of Indira Gandhi. This document may also throw light on where the cadres came from, who meticulously organized the killing of Sikhs. Nana Deshmukh in this document is seen outlining the justification of the massacre of the Sikh community in 1984. According to him the massacre of Sikhs was not the handiwork of any group or anti-social elements but the result of a genuine feeling of anger among Hindus of India. This document also shows the true degenerated and fascist attitude of the RSS towards all the minorities of India. The RSS has been arguing that they are against Muslims and Christians because they are the followers of foreign religions. Here we find them justifying the butchering of Sikhs who according to their own categorization happened to be the followers of an indigenous religion. The RSS often poses as a firm believer in Hindu-Sikh unity. But in this document we will hear from the horse’s mouth that the RSS like the then Congress leadership, believed that the massacre of the innocent Sikhs was justified. Nana Deshmukh in this document is seen outlining the justification of the massacre of the Sikh community in 1984. His defence of the carnage can be summed up as in the following. The massacre of Sikhs was not the handiwork of any group or anti-social elements but the result of a genuine feeling of anger among Hindus of India. Deshmukh did not distinguish the action of the two security personnel of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who happened to be Sikhs, from that of the whole Sikh community. From his document it emerges that the killers of Indira Gandhi were working under some kind of mandate of their community. Hence attacks on Sikhs were justified. Sikhs themselves invited these attacks, thus advancing the Congress theory of justifying the massacre of the Sikhs. He glorified the ‘Operation Blue Star’ and described any opposition to it as anti-national. When Sikhs were being killed in thousands he was warning the country of Sikh extremism, thus offering ideological defense of those killings. It was Sikh community as a whole which was responsible for violence in Punjab. Sikhs should have done nothing in self-defence but showed patience and tolerance against the killer mobs. These were Sikh intellectuals and not killer mobs which were responsible for the massacre. They had turned Sikhs into a militant community, cutting them off from their Hindu roots, thus inviting attacks from the nationalist Indians. Interestingly, Deshmukh would not mind having militant Hindus. Moreover, he treated all Sikhs as part of the same gang and defended attacks on them as a reaction of the nationalist Hindus. He described Indira Gandhi as the only leader who could keep the country united and on the killing of such a great leader such killings could not be avoided. Rajiv Gandhi who succeeded Mrs. Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India and justified the nation- wide killings of Sikhs by saying, “When a huge tree falls there are always tremors felt”, was lauded and blessed by Nana Deshmukh at the end of the document. Shockingly, the massacre of Sikhs was being equated with the attacks on the RSS cadres after the killing of Gandhiji and we find Deshmukh advising Sikhs to suffer silently. Everybody knows that the killing of Gandhiji was inspired by the RSS and the Hindutva Ideology whereas the common innocent Sikhs had nothing to do with the murder of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. There was not a single sentence in the Deshmukh document demanding, from the then Congress Government at the Centre, remedial measures for controlling the violence against the minority community. Mind this, that Deshmukh circulated this document on November 8, 1984, and from October 31 to this date Sikhs were left alone to face the killing gangs. In fact November 5-10 was the period when the maximum killings of Sikhs took place. Deshmukh was just not bothered about all this. Deshmukh document did not happen in isolation. It represented the real RSS attitude towards Sikh genocide of 1984. The RSS is very fond of circulating publicity material, especially photographs of its khaki shorts- clad cadres doing social work. For the 1984 violence they have none. In fact, Deshmukh’s article also made no mention of the RSS cadres going to the rescue of Sikhs under siege. This shows up the real intentions of the RSS during the genocide. There is not a single sentence in the Deshmukh document demanding, from the then Congress Government at the Centre, remedial measures for controlling the violence against the minority community. Importantly, Deshmukh circulated this document on November 8, 1984, and from October 31 to this date Sikhs were left alone to face the killing gangs. George Fernandes while making this document public in 1984 wrote that it showed ‘Indira Congress-RSS collusion’. Nanavati Commission must investigate whether this collusion was confined to political sphere or went beyond to killing fields. The Deshmukh document is reproduced below. It is translated here from Hindi [parts of the document have been underlined for emphasis]: MOMENTS OF SOUL SEARCHING Indira Gandhi ultimately did secure a permanent place at the doorstep of history as a great martyr. With her dynamism borne out of her fearlessness and dexterity, she was able to take the country forward like a colossus for over a decade and was able to build an opinion that she alone understood the realities of the country, that she alone had the ability to run the decadent political system of our corrupt and divided society, and probably that she alone could keep the country united. She was a great lady and her death as a brave leader had added to her greatness. She was killed by a person in whom she kept faith despite several complaints. Such an influential and busy personality was killed by a person who had the duty to protect her person. This act came as a blow not only to her admirers in the country and the world but also her critics. This cowardly and treacherous act of killing not only ended the life of a great leader but also killed, in the name of the Panth, the mutual faith of humanity. Explosion of sudden arson and violent hysteria throughout the country was probably a direction-less and improper expression of the hurt, anger and feeling of loss of her followers. Lakhs of her followers used to see her as the only defender, powerful protector, and a symbol of united India. It is a different matter whether this is right or wrong. For these innocent and uninformed followers, the treacherous murder of Indira Gandhi was the tragic culmination of the poisonous campaign of separatism, antagonism and violence conducted over the previous three years in which hundreds of innocents had to lose their invaluable lives and the sanctity of religious places was destroyed. This campaign assumed an ominous pace after the painful army action in June which, in the eyes of most of the people of the country, had become necessary to protect the sanctity of the religious places. Barring a few exceptions, the Sikh community observed silence for a long time on the barbaric massacres and heinous killings of innocent people, but they condemned the long-pending army action with anger and dangerous explosiveness. The country was stunned at their attitude. The army action was compared to the “gallu ghara” action of Ahmed Shah Abdali in 1762 to desecrate the Harmandir Sahib. Without going into the objectives of the two incidents, Mrs. Gandhi was pushed into the category of Ahmed Shah Abdali. She was termed the enemy of the Sikh panth and big prizes were announced on her head. On the other hand Bhindrawale who was guilty of heinous crimes against humanity in the name of religion was hailed as a martyr. Open display of such feelings in different parts of the country and abroad played a special role in increasing the distrust and alienation between the Sikhs and the rest of Indians. In the background of this distrust and alienation, stunned and bewildered people accepted the validity of the rumours of celebrations by the Sikhs at the heinous murder of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards in retaliation of the army action. Of these the most hurting explanation was that of Giani Kripal Singh who being the Head Granthi considered himself to be the sole spokesman of the Sikh community. He said that he expressed no sorrow at the death of Indira Gandhi. This statement added fuel to the fire of boiling anger. No immediate and natural condemnation of this despicable statement by an important leader came from responsible Sikh leaders, intellectuals or organization. Therefore the already angered common and unimaginative people took it as correct that the Sikhs celebrated the death of Indira Gandhi. Because of this belief, selfish elements could succeed in making the common people become violent against the hapless Sikhs. This was a most explosive situation which needed utmost patience and skilful conduct on behalf of our Sikh brothers. I am saying this, being a life member of the RSS, because on January 30, 1948 a Hindu fanatic, who was a Marathi and had no relation with the RSS, rather was a bitter critic of the Sangh, committed unfortunate killing of Mahatma Gandhi. On this occasion we also suffered the sudden eruption of hysteria, loot and atrocities of misdirected people. We ourselves saw how selfish elements who were well acquainted with this incident, deliberately declared a murderer to be a member of the RSS and also spread the rumour that the RSS people were celebrating throughout the country death of Mahatma Gandhi, and thus they succeeded in diverting the love and the feeling of loss and hurt in the hearts of people for Gandhi. Such feelings were spread against Swayamsewaks and their families, particularly in Mahrashtra. Having gone through such experiences myself, I can understand the strong reaction and feeling of innocent Sikh brothers who became of victims of sudden eruption of people’s violent hysteria. In fact, I would like to condemn in strongest words the inhuman barbarity and cruelty on Sikh brothers in Delhi and elsewhere. I feel proud of all those Hindu neighbours who protected lives and property of troubled Sikh brothers without caring for their lives. Such things one being heard from all over Delhi. These things have practically increased the faith in natural goodness of human behavior and particularly faith in Hindu nature. I am also worried at the Sikh reaction in such delicate and explosive situation. As an activist engaged in national reconstruction and unity for half a century and being a well wisher of Sikh community I am hesitating in saying that if reactive armed action by Sikhs is even partly true then they have not been able to evaluate the situation correctly and comprehensively and as a result could not respond according to the situation. Here I wish to draw the attention of all my countrymen including Sikhs that in a similar difficult situation arising out of murder of Mahatma Gandhi when in the hysteria against the RSS crimes of destruction of property, heinous burning alive of children, inhuman cruelty etc. were being committed and the news was reaching Nagpur from all over India, then the ‘dictator’ of the RSS known as the so-called big private army, the then head of the Sangh late M.S. Golwalkar issued an appeal in Nagpur on February 1, 1948 to the lakhs of armed young followers throughout the country in the following unforgettable words: ‘I direct all my Swayamsewak brothers that despite spread of provocation due to lack of understanding, they should adopt cordial attitude towards all and remember that this mutual distrust and improper hysteria is the result of the love and respect that the whole country has for Mahatma who made the country great in the eyes of the world. We salute such great respected departed soul’. These were not empty words to hide cowardice and helplessness in the hopeless situation. In those life threatening serious moments he proved that every word of his appeal had a meaning. On the evening of February 1, hundreds of Swayamsewaks in Nagpur urged for armed resistance and resisting till the last drop of their blood to stop the probable attack on their leader the same night. And some associates of Guruji told him of a conspiracy against his life and requested to shift his residence to a safe place before the attack, Guruji told them in such a black moment also that if the same people whom he had truly and with full ability, served throughout his life wanted to take his life, then why and for whom he should save his life. Thereafter he cautioned them in stern voice that even if a drop of blood of his countrymen was shed in saving him, then such a life would be useless for him. History is a witness that lakhs of Swayamsewaks spread throughout the country followed this directive word by word. Though they had to digest vulgarities in exchange of their patience and tolerance but there was a faith to give them patience that whatever may happen to them in present condition, history will definitely prove them innocent. I hope that in present difficult situation my Sikh brothers will also show the above-referred patience and tolerance. But I am deeply pained to know that rather than displaying such tolerance and patience at some places they have retaliated against the crowd with arms and played into the hands of such selfish elements who were eager to spread the trouble. I am surprised how a section of our society considered to be most disciplined, organized and religious, adopted such a negative and self-defeating attitude. May be they could not get proper leadership at the moments of such a crisis. Through my scanty study and understanding of Sikh history I consider that such a nonpolitical reaction of Sikhs in moments of such a crisis came from their complete involvement with teachings of love, tolerance and sacrifice of Sikh nature. Warrior nature of Sikh religion was a short time provision against barbarity of foreign Mughals which was taught by tenth Guru. For him Khalsa was a relatively small part of a broad Hindu-Sikh brotherhood and was designed as an armed hand to defend Hindu community and its traditions. Guru Govind Singh laid down for Khalsa followers five KS (Kesh, Kripan, Kangha, Kara and Kachha) and ‘Singh’ in the name of Khalsas. This was a symbol of their being soldiers. But unfortunately today these only are being projected as basic and necessary forms of Sikh religion. I am sorry to say that Sikh intellectuals too have failed to understand that conversion of Sikh religion into Khalsaism is a much later event and this was due to deliberate plan of British imperialists to divide and rule in Punjab. Its aim was to cut the Sikhs off from their Hindu environ. Unfortunately, after independence power hungry politicians kept alive for their own interest the unnaturally born problems of separation and equal existence, and carried forward the game of imperialists to divide and rule by their vote bank politics. This improper equating of Sikhs with militant Khalsaism is not only the basic root of separatist tendencies in some parts of Sikh community, but it also raised militancy and faith in the power of weapons to the level of religious worship. This religious worship gave rise to terrorist movement like Babbar Khalsa in the second decade and recently Indira Gandhi was killed as a result of terrorist wave under the leadership of Bhindrawale and a long ‘hit list’ is yet to be executed. I used to imagine that Sikh community has freed itself totally from illiteracy, ignorance, frustration and defeatism in which it was in the fifth decade of 19th century after losing its freedom and which was exploited by cunning British imperialists and selfish Sikh elites for their selfish interests. It is clear that in eighth decade Sikhs adorning the places of high responsibility represent highly educated, laborious, vigilant, relatively rich, enlightened and active section of Indian society in every walk of life. In nineteenth century their experiences and vision was limited to the boundaries of the then Punjab but today they are spread not only throughout India but throughout the world, and they are in a situation to directly know the conspiracies of big powers which are being hatched against independent and united India rising strongly in the world. In such an advantageous situation they should know their historical development as an integral part of India. Such a revaluation of history will give them the opportunity to see many wrong formulations of their own religion and past which has been systematically drilled into their brains by wrong and distorted historical writings by British administrators and intellectuals about nature and development of their religion. Such an attempt will take them to their real roots. This is the time that our Sikh brothers should search their hearts so that they can get rid of the false description inserted by British imperialists and power greedy opportunist people into their basic religious nature. Removal of such false descriptions is necessary to bridge the gulf of distrust and alienation between two communities of similar destiny, nature and similar traditions. I am afraid that without such a self-introspection and revaluation of history they would not be able to live with peace among themselves and with other countrymen. A disinterested analysis of their own enlightened interests will be enough to make them understand that their fate is indivisibly linked with the destiny of India. Such an understanding will save them from falling prey to the disruptive and destructive interests of foreign powers. I disbelieve (sic) that my Sikh brothers will accept the cautious words of spiritual expression of a well-wisher. Lastly, it is not to deny the truth that sudden removal of Indira Gandhi from Indian political scene has created a dangerous void in the Indian common life. But India has always displayed a characteristic inner strength in the moments of such crisis and uncertainty. According to our traditions, responsibility of power has been placed on the inexperienced shoulders of relatively young person in a lively and peaceful manner. It will be hasty to judge the potentialities of his leadership at this time. We should give him some time to show his ability. On such challenging juncture of the country, in the meanwhile he is entitled to get full cooperation and sympathy from the countrymen, though they may belong to any language, religion, caste or political belief. In the capacity of a nonpolitical constructive worker I only hope and pray that God bless him with more mature, balanced, inner strength and ability to give an impartial Govt. to the people so that he can take the country to real prosperous unity and glory. 20. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1050324/asp/...ory_4531711.asp (Sellout manmohan - he was supporting Modi .... ) Singh delinks visa protest from Godhra RADHIKA RAMASESHAN Manmohan Singh New Delhi, March 23: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today set the record straight on Narendra Modi. He made it clear that his statement in the Rajya Sabha protesting against America’s denial of visa to the Gujarat chief minister was not tantamount to defending Modi’s role in the 2002 post-Godhra violence. Issuing the clarification on Singh’s behalf, his media adviser Sanjaya Baru said: “The Prime Minister as Prime Minister made a statement as far as the sovereignty of the country is concerned on a question of principle and it is a criticism of the US government’s decision. But it in no way condones Modi or what happened in Gujarat. The PM does not have to prove his secular or nationalist credentials because his whole life has been spent defending these principles and values. For anyone to question his secular credentials is uncalled for.” Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma, who was initially non-committal on Modi’s role in the Gujarat riots, made his feelings clear today. “The Congress never diluted its stand as far as Modi and his regime are concerned. It is for the BJP to see why this (the visa denial) happened to Modi, it has to do self-introspection. Modi may be a hero for the BJP, but their hero has become a cause of national embarrassment,” Sharma told reporters. He questioned L.K. Advani’s presence at a swabhiman (self-respect) rally in Ahmedabad on Sunday, saying the BJP chief had to virtually tender an apology when he visited the US and the UK after the riots. The Prime Minister’s Office decided to clear air after a section of the Congress privately voiced reservations about Singh’s statement. Although nobody was willing to criticise it on record, some senior leaders were displeased with the part of the statement that accused the US government of reaching a “subjective judgement” based on “allegations”. They felt the Prime Minister should have stuck to the “diplomatically correct” position of the Indian government going through the motion of protesting to the US authorities against revoking tourist and business visas and refusing a diplomatic visa to Modi. Sources said the Congress, while campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, had made Gujarat a major plank. It had cited the National Human Rights Commission’s observations and the Supreme Court’s repeated indictments of the Modi government to buttress its attack. Sources said the use of the term “allegations” literally washed the campaign away as it amounted to a “denial” of the murder and mayhem that had rocked Gujarat. Ambika Soni tried to temper Sharma’s comments by saying that if the US has refused to reconsider the visa denial, there were “serious” reasons behind the decision. Sources close to Singh said his statement had been prepared after consultations with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh. The trio had agreed it was a “statement of principle” that criticised the US decision but in no way defended Modi and the BJP and legitimised the Gujarat riots. But the BJP hijacked the statement as a “good conduct” certificate for its chief minister from none other than the Prime Minister.
  21. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/1958555.stm Profile: Narendra Modi By Rajyasri Rao BBC News, Delhi Narendra Modi: A protege of the Hindu right Few politicians have done so much to polarise Indian public opinion in recent years as Gujarat's Chief Minister Narendra Modi. A hate figure among Muslims, the state leader of the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was swept back into power in December 2002. He won re-election as chief minister with 126 seats in the 182-member assembly. The biggest gains were in areas of the state where intercommunal violence led to the deaths of more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, after 60 Hindu pilgrims had been burned to death in the town of Godhra in February. Hardline Hinduism Mr Modi used to be known as a back-room operator but during the elections turned into a pro-Hindu firebrand and campaigned openly on a platform of Hindutva (hardline Hinduism). His critics accuse him of unabashed complicity in the religious clashes - some even claim he indirectly egged on the Hindu mobs who are believed to have led most of the attacks. The Gujarat riots of 2002 left about 1,000 people dead But his supporters from some of the most hardline of India's Hindu organisations say Mr Modi could have done little else under the circumstances. Analysts say the reason why the chief minister remained relatively unscathed was the strong support he enjoys among senior leaders in the right-wing Hindu organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The RSS, founded in the 1920s with a clear objective to make India a Hindu nation, functions as an ideological fountainhead to a whole host of hardline Hindu groups - including the BJP with which it shares close ties. It is common for RSS members to join the BJP and, analysts say, then carry through in whatever way possible the objectives dear to its parent organisation. The RSS leadership despatched Mr Modi to join the BJP unit in Gujarat in the early 1980s. The RSS has a particularly strong base there and Mr Modi's close ties to it were seen as a strength the organisation could tap when he joined the state unit of the BJP. Mr Modi reportedly married a woman working as a teacher in a poor Muslim area about 100 kilometres (60 miles) from Gujarat's capital, Ahmedabad. But his official biography makes no mention of it. Critics say the omission is in keeping with the value that old-world RSS members place on a life of bachelorhood - allowing in their view true dedication to work as an RSS leader. Favourite protege But the 52-year-old minister is not given to spartan tastes - he is widely known instead for his love of expensive clothes and designer accessories. Mr Modi has wide support among party hardliners Mr Modi is one of a set of young, savvy BJP leaders who are as comfortable with IT as with the hardline politics of the Hindu right This combination is believed to be central to their political appeal. Mr Modi has a formidable reputation as a party organiser. This skill, along with an ability for secrecy, comes from long years of training as an RSS "pracharak" or propagandist, analysts say. Mr Modi got his big break in the public arena when his predecessor in the state, Keshubhai Patel, was forced to step down in the fall-out from the earthquake in January 2001 that killed nearly 20,000 people. Mr Modi is known to be one of hawkish Home Minister LK Advani's favourite protégés and has grown in stature within the BJP after his handling of the communal riots. But critics say that even if BJP support withered, as long as Mr Modi holds the backing of the RSS he would be hard to prise from office.
  22. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Law/2005/03/22/969238-cp.html Indian agent spied on Air India suspect By JIM BRONSKILL OTTAWA (CP) - A former Indian intelligence agent who toiled in the Ottawa shadows says he mounted a spy operation against the suspected mastermind of the Air India bombing. Maloy Krishna Dhar, a longtime operative with India's Intelligence Bureau, told The Canadian Press he kept a close eye on Talwinder Singh Parmar - the alleged leader of the June 1985 plot that brought down Air India Flight 182, killing 329 people. "I used to gather information about Parmar, no doubt about it," Dhar said in an interview Tuesday. Dhar served from October 1983 through July 1987 at India's High Commission in Ottawa, where he had expected to handle straightforward diplomatic duties. But soon after arriving he was pulled back into clandestine work. In a newly published book, Open Secrets: India's Intelligence Unveiled, Dhar reveals he "succeeded in inducing" a Calgary associate to move temporarily to Burnaby, B.C., to monitor Parmar, a militant Sikh figure. The man attained prominence at a Sikh temple and earned Parmar's confidence, Dhar writes. Parmar later recruited the unnamed man to consult a Sikh flight instructor in Sudbury, Ont. The Calgary informant told Dhar that "a close associate" of Parmar had been rather curious about large passenger aircraft. "I had shared this information with Delhi well before the June '85 massacre in the air," the book says. Dhar's comments come as relatives of the hundreds of Canadians who died in the terrorist attack renew their calls for a public probe into the disaster. Parmar, a prominent member of Sikh separatist group Babbar Khalsa, was never charged in the Air India bombing. He eventually left Canada and was killed in a 1992 shootout with Indian police. "He was showing interest in aircraft. But what for, and all that, we didn't know," Dhar said in an interview from Singapore, where he is on vacation. Indian intelligence officials had no specific knowledge about plans to bomb an aircraft in 1985, just vague warnings, Dhar insists. "We didn't have any really hardcore information about that," said Dhar, who spent almost three decades with the Intelligence Bureau. Indian officials came to believe Parmar planned the Air India bombing and that he had links to Pakistan's intelligence service. Dhar says in the book that he occasionally shared information with the RCMP about the bombing, being careful not to reveal his undercover role. Dhar says he again met with the Mounties at their request in Toronto in June 2000, just before charges were laid in the Air India case against Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri. Dhar says he passed on material about the Babbar Khalsa, Parmar and recent events in India. "Whatever information I had at my command I shared with them," he said Tuesday. "So many innocent people, and mostly Canadian civilians, were killed in that blast. And if my shared information could help them in the investigation, I said that I'll do that, no problem." Malik and Bagri were acquitted last week by a British Columbia court. In Open Secrets, Dhar acknowledges several cloak-dagger operations during his tenure in Canada: -Planting a miniature tape recorder on a close associate of an International Sikh Youth Federation leader. -Achieving "appreciable penetration" of key Canadian cities with large Sikh populations. -Uncovering two members of the Pakistani intelligence service, one in Ottawa, the other in Toronto. Dhar was expected to "maintain ironclad cover" and not betray his involvement in intelligence gathering. The former spy writes that he was not "any Cinderella to be pushed into the uncharted wild forest" of Canada. "I was acutely aware of the capability of the RCMP and the CSIS to monitor the movements and activities of foreign diplomats." Dhar vehemently denies long-rumoured notions that the Indian government orchestrated the bombing in order to discredit the Sikh movement for a separate homeland. "The bombing was a shock, and this acquittal was a shock."
  23. Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh ! I have copied and pasted relevant info from the webpages: http://www.damdamitaksal.com/lit_rehat_23.htm Summary of the Rehat of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Akhand Paath & Sehaj Paath To take Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji from one place to another there are to be a minimum of 5 Singhs present with Guru ji. A gong or other relevant instruments are to be played to make others aware of Guru ji’s arrival. Water is to be sprinkled in front of Guru Sahib. If you are taking Guru Sahib in a car/vehicle, then the container of water is to be placed in the car. Where Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is present and Karah Parshad is to be prepared, the floor covering must not be made of inappropriate materials (e.g. in India, animal dung mixed with clay and hay is sometimes spread on a dirt floor to stop dust from flying around). Once a suitable room is selected, the floor, walls and ceilings should be broomed, cleaned or washed as appropriate. Where Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is Parkash, a beautiful canopy is to be placed over Guru ji. If Guru ji is Parkash in a Palki, then there should be a small canopy in the Palki and in turn a larger one is to be hung over the Palki. http://www.damdamitaksal.com/lit_rehat_22.htm Respecting Gurbani "The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani all the Ambrosial Nectar is contained. If His humble servant believes, and acts according to the Words of the Guru's Bani, then the Guru, in person, emancipates him." (SGGSJ Ang 982) "That person who does not respect and fear Gurbani cannot be my Sikh." (Gurpartap Suraj Granth) At Sri Anandpur Sahib, a Singh was reading Gurbani slightly wrong and Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji said, "O Singh! You are breaking my limbs." This is why Guru Sahib Ji taught and explained all the meanings and correct discourses of Gurbani to a number of Singhs. The chosen Singh’s would then pass on this knowledge, understanding and correct pronunciation of Gurbani to all. "Oh Sikhs, listen to this teaching - recite Gurbani correctly (i.e. pronounce it correctly). Read it and obtain many pleasures, herein and thereafter." Satguru ji gave the utmost respect to Gurbani in all his ten forms. In same way, we should also show the same respect. In order to do this, the following should be adhered to: - No one should seat themselves behind Guru ji’s throne without having bathed or washing their feet (if they have worn shoes). Nor should they do so whilst wearing socks or gloves. - A person who has had sex or a nightly emission should have a full Ishnaan (from head to toe, including washing his hair), wash his clothes, then recite Japji Sahib and then do an Ardas. Then he is ready to go sit behind the Guru ji’s throne. - Some ignorant people, under the influence of the bad company they keep, masturbate.
