  1. VaheguroojeekakhalsaaVaheguroojeekiFatheh! O Lord of the Universe, O Lord of the World, O Dear Merciful Beloved. ||1||Pause|| You are the Master of the breath of life, the Companion of the lost and forsaken, the Destroyer of the pains of the poor. ||1|| O All-powerful, Inaccessible, Perfect Lord, please shower me with Your Mercy. ||2|| Please, carry Nanak across the terrible, deep dark pit of the world to the other side. ||3||8||30|| — Guru Arjan Dev Ji Auction: Art4Action – World Malaria Day 2012 Faiths Act is a multi-faith global movement to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, focusing on eliminating deaths from malaria. We have supporters and volunteers in more than 130 countries organising easy, fun activities to raise awareness and funds to tackle deaths from malaria. It is spearheaded by a group of young ambassadors, the Faiths Act Fellows, from the US, India, UK and Canada. On the ground in countries like Sierra Leone, Faiths Act is establishing and supporting projects that mobilise faith communities around malaria public health messaging. In Birmingham, fellows Immy Kaur and Steve Hirst are working to spearhead multi faith action against Malaria. Art 4 Action is a competition to raise awareness and funds for malaria eradication in Sierra Leone. It has been launched across the city of Birmingham and is open to artists of all ages contact i.kaur@springfieldproject.org.uk for more information. About this piece ‘Saving Souls’ In line with the ethos of Faiths Act, I believe that every human in this world has a right to life and health, and every human who is able, has the duty to help those in need. One of the very basic principles for spiritual growth is to look at everyone as equal despite colour, caste, creed, religion or social status. Helping and providing love to those in need before helping ourselves (Sarbath da Bhallaa) is something a Sikh must aspire to put into thought and practice where possible. As part of the Art4Action campaign I have attempted to illustrate these very teachings in this piece – our much-needed effort to Saving Souls from the clutches of Malaria. All funds raised from this artwork and the Art 4 Action campaign will go straight to multi faith initiatives in Sierra Leone, to help save lives from the preventable and treatable deadly killer Malaria. 4. VahegurooJeeKaKhalsaa! VahegurooJeeKiFatheh! SangatJeeo, Hope all is Guroo Guroo! :-) Daas hasn't logged onto SS for a pretty long time but figured maybe I should for this...I'm not sure how many users are still here from 'my time' but about 3 years ago I finally decided to start drawing and painting again after losing touch with this hobby for such a long time. When I started, it was simply because I wanted to enjoy doing art again, but over the last couple of years I got a lot of positive feedback from Gursikhs to do more, and share more. To my surprise, I found that a lot of people actually liked what I did and I started getting requests for prints, originals and commissions which was all truly overwhelming! I wasn't too sure about pursuing this 'demand' initially because I didn't want the reason as to why I did art to change. However, after a lot of encouragement from everyone I have finally decided to put my work out there and make it more widely available to everyone. It has taken me a while to get to where I am now but this message is to let you know that with Guru Sahib's Kirpaa I have launched my website http://www.iminderarts.com where you can view, comment, and buy prints of my work! I'll be running the site like a blog, and there are plenty of things in the pipeline too, including new features to be added to the site, so stay tuned! I'm indebted to everyone around me who has helped and inspired me to come this far with my art, so thank you to all, especially GuruSahib! :-) Feel free to contact me with any questions/comments that you have, and please help me spread the word by forwarding this message to your contacts and groups who you think might appreciate my artwork. Guroo Raakhaa! Iminder Singh

  11. Vaheguroojeekakhalsavaheguroojeekifatheh! Everyone will tell you pretty much the same thing, more exercise and a controlled diet is what works best. Here are a few tips: 1. Cut out all junk food. This is going to be hard but you'll get used to it. Junk food means anything like chocolate, crisps, fried foods, fast foods, fizzy drinks etc. Reduce the amount of bread you eat too! If you want to eat it, have wholemeal bread instead of white. 2. Cut down on your portions. So for example, if you have a 2 parshadai with a large serving of sabhji/daal, cut this down to 1 parshadaa, a small serving of sabhji/daal. Include lots of salad. 3. Eat simple. Understand what you're eating, how many calories you're taking in and what proportions of fat, sugar, salt, protein etc. your food contains. 4. Avoid eating late, especially before you sleep. 5. Start doing more cardio. Personally, I'm not really a gym person, but I enjoy playing football a lot with the local Singhs. This is what worked for me. So find out about local activities going on. This way you get your cardio, but best of all you get Sangat of Gursikhs! : ) 6. Be patient - it's a virtue for a reason! You may get frustrated with little or no progress, but stick to it, and stay determined, and you will eventually start to see changes. 7. Chuck out your weighing scale! The reason being, seeing no changes in numbers can really knock you back. My general rule is that if you feel healthier/fitter, and if you're clothes have started to become loose, or you can fit into something which was tight on you a couple of months back, you're making good progress! 8. Self-discipline is the backbone for any progression, just like it is key for you to build your Jeevan. I hope that's useful. If it's any encouragement, with Satguroo's Kirpa I've gradually lost about 4 stones over the last 3 years! But I still need to lose a little bit more! : ) Guroo Rakhaa!
