  1. Tackling drug menace in the Sikh state of Punjab.

Addressing a panel discussion after the screening of Reema Anand's documentary on drug addiction "Punjab: The enemy within" at the Chandigarh Press Club, Dua pleaded for saving the energetic Punjabis from decay caused by drugs.

Equating the syringes shown in the documentary to missiles that were destroying society, Dua said they were the symbols of death as over 50 per cent of the youth of Punjab had fallen prey to them.

"In fact, liquor is the first step to addiction in Punjab," Anand told mediapersons after the screening of the documentary. Drugs were the slow poison that effected the entire family and society and grandparents and parents are today fighting this enemy within in Punjab, she said.

The influx of the migratory labour had left the rural Punjabi youth with hardly any work. “With no work, they take to drugs and are ruining their lives,” she said.

Even the NRI money being pumped into Punjab was responsible for the sorry state of affairs and goes a long way in pushing the youths to drugs, she added.

Dr Jatinder Jain, DIG (Bathinda range), regretted that there was no national policy to tackle the drug menace. Criminal neglect on the part of the parents was the basic cause of the children taking to drugs, he claimed.

Sharing Dr Jain's sentiments, Dr Deepinder Singh from Ludhiana, regretted that society seemed to have accepted the use of drugs. Awareness, prevention and treatment were essential parts of the any strategy to tackle the menace, he added.

Prabhjot Singh, senior journalist, who moderated the discussion, said the connivance of the politicians and the police with the drug mafia had virtually led to the mushrooming of a parallel economy in the state and only a mass movement against drug addiction could save the present and future generations.

Meanwhile, the documentary showed heart-rending scenes of the farmers consuming poppy husk and youngsters puncturing their veins with syringes.

Premiered at Los Angeles in 2006, the documentary makes a mention of the rural population in Punjab, particularly in Malwa hooking onto "bhukki" (poppy husk) which had become the poor man's addiction and smack and heroin being used by the richer sections of society in urban areas.

“Punjabis struggled hard to fight with Central Government in the past but now they are up against a enemy within,” the narrator said in the documentary underlining the nexus between politicians-police-drug mafia.

  3. There is no differance kept between a boy and girl in a Sikh household.

    Sikhs dont drink Alchahol

    Sikhs dont do drugs

    Sikhs dont drop out

    Simplicity .

dude i don't want to get into a debate with you so could you do me a favour and step outside this forum, for me im looking for productive answers.

PS. answer my questions on the other thread, whats your opinon on maharaja ranjit singh or udham singh would you call them sikhs? cause 98% of gursikhs out their i have met claim udham singh a great sikh freedom fighter and maharaja ranjit singh the greatest sikh leader siince the gurus time.

  4. Waheguru ji ka khalsa,

    Waheguru ji ki fateh,

Khalsa jee's there is no source and links availble which prove this. Yes, but its true i will not tell anything lie in this forum, i also get shocked when i heard this truth from singh's who was there in the field of sant jee (Sant jarnail singh ji khalsa).

You have to believe this, its doesnt contain any proof since bachaan doesnt came forward, still now also, there are many insulting things are happening by R.S.S against sikhs, which is being supported financially by amitabh, i dont hve any proof, but one day we will proof this with picture infront of all.

    Waheguru ji ka khalsa,

    Waheguru ji ki fateh,

rss and congress have always hated eachother But i heard that amitabh did make comments that insulted sikhs.

  5. what are some of the issues facing the sikh community and what fuel these issues and what are solutions, some problems i see is

alchole use is always going up

alot of girls don't carry much self respect for themselves

drug use is going up in the west and punjab(in punjab it is said half the youth are drug users)

    domestic abuse

the sex ratio and abortion rate in punjab

    boys spoiled

    girls neglected

more and more sikh youth dropping out of school well in canada anyways

more and more sikh youth lack any knowledge on sikhism and sikh history

  6. why khalistan? My question to ppl in the west in country's like canada and england and please don't take offence to this is if you want khalistan so bad then why not go to india and fight for it, you got muslims and tamils fighting for what they beleive even christians but why not khalistanis?

Secondly how would khlaistan survive economically especially when the sikh community basically has no proper leadership, drug addictions amongst youth is 50% in punjab.

All this time and energy wasted for a lost cause called khalistani, all that energy could of bin used to get justice for 84 victims and bring the punjab police to justice.

  7. theres been alot of discussion on mixed marriages . ie Sikhs marrying non Sikhs.

well i know someone who works for the marriages births register.

which has all the stastics on all the marriages in the UK. and what religion each partner is that is married.

you can view these online. i checked the scotland records which shows Sikhs and muslims are the most likely to marry within their own religion.

it showed that marriages between Hindus and Sikhs was increasing though.

just thought id let everyone know. instead of all the discussion about muslims marrying Sikhs. we can actually see the real stats of how many are marrying out of religion and to which reliigon.

could you post the website with statistics

  8. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I could not see a previous topic

Was just wondering if anyone else had seen the 2 part documentary on BBC1 yesterday evening and Wednesday evening, If so what did you make of it?

For those of you who missed it you can see the 1st part here 1st part

and the 2nd part here 2nd part

Vaheguru, it's proper messed up, in the 1st one the father killed his 3 young children with a rounders bat and in the 2nd one the father set fire 2 his house killing his wife and 4 daughters (4 or 3) but he later also died from his injuries. Also in the 2nd one a littly 6yr old girl died because someone petrol bombed their house, her brother seemed like a right doofus!! :s watch it and you will understand! But whatever he did it's no excuse for people to behave like maniacs!! :D

Thins kind of stuff makes me sick :D also this guy was talking to me at work he is of afro/carribbean (sp?) descent and he was like this kind of thing makes us all wary of asians in general and we end up creating stero types and tarnishing everyone with the same brush

but carribean complain the most about media bashing them.

  9. Hearing Scheduled for KPS Gill's role in Khalra murder

Six weeks after upholding the convictions of five officers for the murder of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, the Punjab and Haryana High Court scheduled a hearing on the petition against former Punjab Police chief KPS Gill for his role in the murder. The hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2008, according to the Tribune.

During this hearing, a Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, comprising of Justice S.K. Mittal and Justice K.C. Gupta, will hear arguments calling for a CBI investigation into KPS Gill's role in the murder of Jaswant Singh Khalra. Direct evidence for Gill's involvement was put on record during the trial of lower-level officers, and the High Court especially cited the testimony of Special Police Officer (SPO) Kuldip Singh in upholding the conviction of five police officers for Khalra's murder. In his trial testimony, SPO Kuldip Singh described how he had been appointed to guard the room where Khalra was detained, and discussed the role of different officers, including the senior-most officer, Director General of Police (DGP) KPS Gill, in the abuses against Khalra. According to his trial testimony, the police took Khalra to SSP Sandhu's residence, where DGP Gill joined them and interrogated Khalra for half an hour. On the ride back to the police station, Station House Officer (SHO) Satnam Singh told Khalra to accept DGP Gill's advice and save himself. In the judgment upholding the conviction of Satnam Singh and four others, Justice M.S. Gill stated: "Kuldeep Singh [Kuldip Singh] is the star witness...We find his statement to be truthful, convincing and inspiring confidence. He initially was under fear, but at a later stage came out with the truth. He is an eyewitness to the gruesome abduction, murder and disposal of Khalra's body."

Ensaaf drafted the petition's international law arguments on the doctrine of superior responsibility. Ensaaf provides ongoing litigation support to Paramjit Kaur Khalra's attorney, R.S. Bains, to ensure that all of Khalra's killers are brought to justice. For more information about the case, visit Ensaaf's page on advocacy pursued regarding the murder of Jaswant Singh Khalra. This page includes links to judgments and legal papers, as well as information on joint initiatives by international human rights organizations, including Ensaaf, Human Rights Watch, REDRESS, and the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at New York University School of Law.

could you please provide a link to the website, hopefully the <admin-profanity filter activated> gets hung.

It all depends on us, if we, sikhs, want to look or give ourselves da image dat da media presents sikhs as. Forget about what da world (non-sikhs) would think of us..forget about what kind of image they would or they hold in their heads...i think we should all think/worry bout our own ppl first, and give them da knowledege of a true sikh, of what being a sikh really means.

In a same way, as most of us are out here...far away from our homeland..Panjab. We see lots of sikhs/desi ppl adapting to da western culture...why?? 2. Operation Blue Star - 237 Khalsa Sikhs with limited weapons against 100,000 Hind Army with modern weapons

    3.

i don't think it was 237 sikhs vs 100 000 indian soilders not even close but the indian army did use tanks.

  13. so were the shere punjab involved in the stabbing in the visaki parade

as well singh or not singh the sikhs of the shere punjab i heard did great deal of seva for the sikhs in uk by standing up against extremists and racists to protect the community.
