  1. Sangat Ji.

I really need help. Does anyone know of a school which does English Language and Literature?

I have phoned a lot of colleges and they do only A2 English Language or only A2 English Literature......What I need is A2 English Language and Literature.

Please if anyone knows of a 6th form or college in Birmingham which does this combination then please let me know asap because school has already started.

    Thanks!

  2. He will not get a place at a top uni. Top uni's want minimum 3 A levels and a 4th As with good GCSE (A* and A's).

Also its not only about points cos it also depends on on the subjects he is doing a full A level in.....if its general studies then majority of Uni's don't count general studies.....not only do you have to think about the subjects he is studying but also the course he is applying to. If its a tough course where they have lots of students applying then no he will not get a place. But if its a course where they struggle to meet the numbers then he stands a chance.

I know its not a positive reponse from me but its best to know the truth. But saying that I don't know the full picture of which subjects and what grades.

  3. Phoola is dead.

    He reaps what he sow.

Just a benti to sangat, we must start a fund to collect some money for the sikhs who are involved.

They are true gursikhs and it is our duty to help them.

Please admin start a topic so people can donate money that can be used in there judicial case.

    We must honour them.

Who agree with me to create a topic to collect fund must reply to that.

I think thats a productive idea - waiting for Admin might take long...create the thread now yourself. I'm sure you'll have lots of support. :)

  4. I agree with saint-soldier....I was gonna write it ages ago but then didn't wanna be the first and be blamed.

Now I am not pointing at anyone in particular but it really annoys me is when people start posting saying why are you talking about this topic...who are we to judge and how we should leave everything to God....this has to be the most annoying thing anyone can say especially when you combine it with adding do naam simran.

In all frankness this is a load of emotional blackmail.....its like when you say I want to cut my hair and then you get someone posting this 'OMG you don't love the Guru, you don't care about the sacrifices they made and all those martyrs'...its like jeesh what a load of emotional blackmail....neither is it a solution and neither it is an answer....likewise the same goes for the statements people make when they don't like a particular topic...the answer here instead is - if you don't want to read about a topic then get yourself out of it. Don't write phrases like the above since they add nothing.

In the times of the Guru's Sikhs did not sit around and say oh damn our temples are getting robbed lets do naam simran and leave punishment of the Mughals in the hands of God. Infact these were the practices of the Brahmins hence the much looting of their mandirs....

In fact sikhi is practicality combined with faith hence let's stop these wishy washy statements - sikhs do judge and we don't sit down, close our eyes and say i have left everything to God. We are taught God is in all of us, we act accordingly and our actions are a replication of god's actions. this is shown throughout Sikh History ie how did we get the golden temple back from the Mughals, we did not close our eyes and say God will sort out that their is dancer there....infact there was a lot of prading and celebration as the mughal heads were put on a spear and they went through the town to show people the victory of getting back harmander Sahib!

If anything I am of the opinion that when people come out with why are we talking about this topic - it is they who have the issues since they are not tolerant of others expressions and views. What I mean by this is if you have a view then express it otherwise what type of statement is 'why are you talking about this topic.' I don't know him so I have no emotions of sadness or happiness. But I know for sure that if he raped anyone in my family then of course this wud be a good day for me. As far as I can see you guys just need to learn how to be tolerant of others views. If people wanna express their distaste for him then let them......also it doesn't bring paap to you (another brainwashed phrase).....infact you have paap for ignoring and not commenting on wrong doings.

  5. The worst is when ure having ure drink and then the person next to you goes 'can i have a sip?' :((
One of my friends did that once, in fact he took my Pepsi can from my hand and said "one sip" and immediately sipped it. When he was going to return it, I said "You can have it. I am done". LOL!!!

lol I do the same. The amount of times people ask for my drink....and then its rude to refuse so you allow them to have it and clearly u cannot have it back so ure forced to give it all away...

Also its not to do with people being infidels....infidels play a ole in islam! For Sikh people its basic sucham. You don't eat off people's plate or drink their drinks. Even if the person was amritdhari I would still feel uncomfortable sharing a drink with them. I guess its upbringing since in our home.....we all have our own cups and plates and you just don't mix or pick at others food.

Nowadays I tell people straight though cos i've had loadsa misery when ppl ruin my food. The most recent thing was how my flatmate and I were having dinner. She was eating with her fork and then randomly made a dive with her saliva fork at my food. I thankfully saw and quickly moved my plate and then politely told her how she can have some of my food cos I don't mind sharing but how I don't like people to touch my food.....instead I told her how I will pour some onto her plate...in all honesty i dunno how ppl eat someone's joot like this but she was okay with it...so I guess its all gd.

  6. This reminds me. i have a problem with my laptop. Its used to run on batteries but over the last 2 months something happened. It no longer runs on batteries.

eg. I plug my laptop in and it works. As soon as I take the plug out it shuts off......I must have messed with the settings....how do I get it to swtich and run on battery power?

    WJKK WJKF

Your battery is dead. Dont get ripped off by going to a high street store to purchase a replacement, ebays the place to go...

    WJKK WJKF

    fateh ji

I was really upset when I read everyone on sikhsangat saying my battery died cos I love my laptop loads. Anyhoo as I was feeling miserable I started messing about.

At first I used to check power settings thru desktop but this time I went to control panels and then checked my advanced power settings.

I found out my battery was not being detected so in my moment of despair I pulled out the battery and re-did the AC wiring. I put everything back and its all working fine now. yay :)

  7. omg we used to have a moti Alison at our drs surgery too. She actually spoke punjabi and left our surgery about 10 years ago. What if its the same one!?! But good on her tho. :)

This reminds me of something else. My cousin is 100% Punjabi but God made him naturally blonde haired and white skinned so he looks completely like a white person.

Now when he goes gurdwara he hates how some punjabi people stare and start referring to him as 'a gora singh' and then to make it worse they chat about him in punjabi whlist he is standing there.

Its really rude because he knows punjabi and there you have people saying things about him to his face and then they treat him differently etc. We've made it into a fun game now and its cool to shock people and catch them out but still its saddening how people are quick to stereotype and judge.

  8. Khalsa Raj

I liked you post. I think alot of people mistake khalsa to mean Sikh. Raj karega khalsa does not mean sikhs will rule.. Khalsa means pure one. This means it could be anyone of any belief but as long as they are representing the sach of dharam and God ie pure one. And the concept of raj is not ruling over land but its saying that those people who are pure (khalsa) are the true rulers.

Although I don't mind the khalistan movement adopting this as their slogan I do think people should understand the real meaning of this phrase is not about land. its about being true to your dharam and God where ever you are.

  9. awww that guy shudn't have sworn....I've met some white people who know Punjabi, one of Dad's friends is white but he worked in the army and therefore lived in India for some time where he picked up the language.

Anyways this reminds me of another story which happened to me. I was going to India, Amritsar on that well known turk/uzbec plane.

Anyways we had a stop in Arabia but it was an old style airport where you step down the stairs to go out from the plane. Normally all planes i have travelled on open into the airport on a ramp so that there is no need for stairs.

So basically I got excited about the stairs and I started taking lots of posing pics on them. I actually waited for all the passengers to leave and took another pic by the cockpit...

So whilst I was doing this one of the airport men came to me and started saying things in farsi.. I was like wat...he said the same things again in farsi - it was really bad cos he didn't know English and then I was surrounded by loadsa other airport workers who were all talking to me in farsi.

I had no clue what they were saying. Not a single person knew English and they kept getting angry becasue they thought I was pretending to not know what they were saying. Apparently they thought I was persian and they were really shocked when I told them I was Indian. But in the end I worked out they were telling me that pics around the airport were not allowed. lol.

  10. hmmm I know its been a long time since I posted but thats a quick change of members - I guess its okay - maybe I can convince the AS people to apply Imperial. lol.

But on a serous note if any of u need help with ps/applications let me know.

  11. This is the first time i have heard about this creative boy but the way people seem to be going on about this is he like some kind of a sikh legend in the music business? just curious...

I've never heard of him either....and I haven't read all of this thread......but it seems like people had high expectations of him but then he went the other way. So whats happened - now everyone is hurt..

  12. Just to balance the family stories out.....my family is the complete opposite. Everyone was amritdhari. It was uncommon to find anyone who had not taken Amrit and most of the children had taken Amrit too. This is all from what my nana ji told me. He would have been in his 90's or 100's.

He was from Pakistan Punjab (dunno if this makes a difference) but anyways he knew about the Guru's etc when he was young. His family used to tell Sakhi's at bedtime. And no girl was married into the family unless they had taken Amrit.

But I also remember him sayin there was a lot more integration back in the days. People were happier to visit Hindu Mandirs, Muslims were happy to come Gurdwara etc. He was quite hurt by the fact that the youth of today were hating pakistan when Pakistan as he said was India anyway.... Back in the day it wasn't like tht....everyone just got along and enjoyed the experience...but anyways i agree with S1ngh the impression i got was that people were more religious then and there were more amritdharis....I do believe there ha been a decline esp if you look at the youth of Punjab today.

  13. quick question, if i can only attend on the 1st,2nd and 3rd- would that be allowed?

if so then would it be at a discounted price??

I want to know that too. I am working so I might only be able to come and join the sangat for evening kirtan. Would I be allowed to come only for an evening?

  14. In all honesty I wouldn't bother saying your daughters do this.....it will just cause rift and you know how one little thing can sour everything. Ignore that bit and just say uncle ji I am much better now and so I am going home and add in a little bit about how ure mum wants you and how thankful you are for his company. Then just leave.....go home and rather than looking for role models become the best you can. Look inside.
