  1. aww thanx. Slight problemo - I don't have my punjabi to english dictionary with me and thats gonna take me half an hour to read one line!

If I were to guess 5 chor and 10 gates....but what are the three whirl winds? I wud guess thats in reference to the realms...but there are 4 realms not 3....

If u can explain please cos I am feeling lazy today.

  2. Amritsar, March 25

Officials of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) are in a fix following actors Rekha and Rishi Kapoor, who were shooting for a Hindi feature film, “Sadiyaan,” at the Golden Temple, putting “kadah prasad” in the mouth of each other.

A worried SGPC official was seen requesting the director of the film Raj Kanwar with folded hands that the shot be deleted as the Darbar Sahib is not a picnic spot. However, it is yet to be seen whether the “highly objectionable scene” taken in gross violation of the Sikh maryada (tradition) will be deleted.

By reading this and the inconvenience caused I don't think we should allow bollywood filming at all. I don't understand how this article leads to the conclusion that the golden temple had no control over what scenes were to be shooted. Normally you have a contract and its within ure right to know what is going to be filmed and how etc so if something goes wrong u can ask for it to be deleted. When I was little I had a film made of me and in my contract it had notes about my rights. It covered everything from how I can change the editing if I did not like it down to little details like storage of the filmreel.

I really don't like the sound of this. For instance in rang de basanti the way she did her matha tek was not the sikh style of bowing and then that stupid thread scene in the sarowar. My friend was like awww u wear threads too. I was like erm erm no....also in provoked the scene where she takes her kara off is overshadowed by the mangla sutra...I find so many incaccurate associations and the trouble begins when people who don't know about the sikh faith pick upon it. For instance I bet there will be people who will think aww we shud go golden temple and feed each other like that....when actually we believe in joot....

Also its not a romance spot. Darbar is a place to meet ure Guru...I wud be so annoyed if I was there - have these film people come to meet the Guru or me?

The way I see it - bollywood is there to make their film appeal to a large audience range. Lots of sikh people will watch the film cos Harminder Sahib is in it. In rang de basanti and other films they could have easily conveyed the same message without having a golden temple scene. Also there is a hindu mandir which looks similar to golden temple so they can film there. Sorry for the rant. I just find whenever bollywood films the golden temple they never do it properly and now I don't want them to film there.

  3. I just came across this thread.

This is going to be offtopic but in this hukamnamma it talks about 5 tigers and 10 wolves....does anyone know what this is in reference too, I've never come across this before.

  4. I dunno if its me but I think sikh names are easy to work out. Most people have one of these in their name

    - deep/dip

    - jot/jyot

    - preet/prit

    - jit/jeet

    - vir/bir

    - inder/vinder

    - sharan/charan

    - there are more but cannot remember them!

Anyways I wanna see real pics. :)

  5. If you highlight the "arguing", it just makes matters worse. Nobody wants to be told that they are arguing, especially if they have moved past it already.

Actually I find it cool seeing different people and then looking at how they talk, wat words they use, which words they omit, what they mean, what they don't mean, its so fascinating...importantly its really rare to find people who can accurately reflect their words. This makes me think how Guru's must have had a hard time writing SGGSji...language has so many limitations and so many problems, we are limited by our knowledge yet at the same time the level of scrutiny we give lines and if we applied it to our own sentances...which i have....its very easy to lose context.....must have been so hard for them!

  6. excuse me, for the latest members as yourself, you might not be aware that me and baba ji are related, so that is allowed, and stop asking silly questions and researching my life histry, i would like to say yes, cus then you wud relaise that i am the age of ur father and u should have much more respect than wat u r curently displaying!

u liar. You're not related to my brother. And your not 47, i think your 17/18 maybe rolleyes.gif

aww bhenji is he ure REAL brother??? I never knew dat.....

Anyways I read u wanna learn how to sew kachera - u can learn off my mum over the summer. My mum is pretty cool and know's alot of stuff! I got exams but I will chat to u in may and we'll sort something out. I need to learn aswell so we can learn off her together. :)

  7. Dass means servant. I believe its a sanskrit word.

Normally people call themsevles Dass to show their humbleness....

eg. Dass benti karda hai guru ka langar sakh keh jana....ure servant wud like to kindly request that u eat langar....

Basically that sort of thing. You can apply it in different contexts eg It could mean ure calling yourself God's servant.

  8. cool Jiwansingh7072 is gonna be the cool nihang- I cannot wait...this will be the best movie ever!! I'm leaving all future recruitments to director sher-e-moreau.......he is now responsible for everything :)

EDIT - I think we should have a fight scene similar to this but better ....

  9. YAY I AM SO EXCITED NOW....

    FILM = Sundri

    Director - sher-e-moreau

    Scriptwriter - Kaur93

    Main male lead - Surinderjit

Sundri - Sitargirl....tho I might change my mind cos I fancy dressing up as a Mughal. We shall see!!

Anyways we need more people...this is gonna be fab!!

    Roles needed to be filled

    - Mughals

    - Little boy getting scared of the crow

    - Singh's on horseback etc

  10. yay and i can drafted as the actress!!! Who gonna give us the money to film??

we can go to sangat abraod for that.. 5 per person frome ach gurdwara around the world should do it wahegurusign.gif

Snap wikid.....so lets get our crew ready cos this is a huge project. Sher-e-moreau I appoint as artistic director as he is good at drawing (look at his singhni pic) and with us he will get us to do all cool shots....definately director material...

We need to appoint some more people though....wat role do u want kaur93???

  11. I clarified this....its not to make it big cos its not keskhi kapra....basically you put ure hair in the kapra forming the main dastaar and u twist it and then u wrap the lars around.....so its ure wrapping ure hair in the kapra around ure head. It was actually really traumatic for me to hear...she was gonna do it on me but I decided I didn't wanna go thru with it...and I asked her why I cud just not keep my braids and she goes you cannot...something about it not being purataan.

  12. I would be quite interested in hearing other people's views with reasoning on this.

At the moment...I braid my hair....always have done but I noticed my mum doesn't braid her's and neither does my dad.... I seem to be the odd one out.

Also another thing I was speaking to a girl who was telling me how to tie a dastaar and she told me that u have to wrap your hair in the kapra. No one in our house wraps their hair in the kapra so I nearly fainted when I heard that.......surely it will rip my hair apart!!

I tend to be really protective of my hair and I don't let anyone touch it and I don't wanna lose anybits....so I let her know that I don't wanna rip parts of my hair and asked why i could not just have a joora...she said u cannot but i never really understood why. I then watched some youtube video's.....they hinted at something called a rishi knot.....which again is something I am confused about.

I would be interested to hear people's replies..the only thing I know for definate is that the joora is meant to be bought together over the soft spot on the head....

  13. This reminds me......u can take different types of Amrit and once I met this lady who was forcing me to take Amrit of the Baba she took it off.

She was like his Amrit is amazing, I can still wear lipstick and jewelllery and still be Amritdhari, dear bheta ure young and u don't want to take a strict Amrit, you want to be young and enjoy yourself and so take the same one as me. It was such an odd conversation. Its like when you meet Amritdhari people and they tell you that their Amrit allows them to eat meat. You just dunno what to say...so all u can do is smile, nod and walk away.

I just looked at this aunty when she was telling me about her lipstick and she had makeup everywhere and I thought omg I'm not gonna take Amrit for the sake of it. I don't want to reach minimum standards. Being an Amritdhari is lifelong learning. Everyone has minimum for you to join but ure meant to progress and get deeper and deeper into sikhi.

What I mean by this is that no Amritdhari is perfect but your supposed to learn more and more and aim for the ideal state of mind. In this case adorning yourself is not the correct way. Its negative brain conditioning....it supports a fickle industry and brings about nothing good in the world...why waste time, money and energy on such a worthless pursuit.....in occordance with the teachings of bani and those of sants Jewellery has no place in sikhi due to its purposeless nature. I wish I could explain this better..

  14. you can apply it there :) .

Basically I added this application....it gives me a quote each day and its reallly cool...so I log on and each day I have a different quote......that quote is from last week - it basically means alot of us have ideas, a lot of wisdom etc....but then sometimes we don't have the skills to put it into practise so we need to develop and find the skills,

But then some of us have the skills but then we are lazy and or for watever other reason we don't do it.....

I kinda apply this to everything now. Its really cool! I love quotes. I wish someone would design a gurbani one so everyday I get a line of gurbani, I wud learn so much bani from it....but tht means i need to find someone with the skill and virtue to do it...not enough to talk about it, its all about if u follow it through lol.

  15. I really like this quote, it summarizes how alot of us are wise and know things but how many of us go beyond this and become virtueous people. I really love this quote....It might seem random but I really wanted to share it. :)

    .

    .

"Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it."

  16. sikhi is a LOT more than doing ure eyebrows

we concentrate on things like this, and we fail to realise how DEEP and amazing the message of guru nanak dev je was, and how amazing and mysterious the universe and vaheguur are

people these days i dunt think even begin to grasp what japji sahib teaches, which is the main thing we shud be looking to

now we shdunt do our eyebrows, because guru je said so

hes our guru, our teacher, theyre the ones who show us the way, they said not to remove any hair

but people these days judge way tomuch, they look down on girls who do their eyebrows

this isnt at all wat guru gobind singh je taught us, this is our ego and ingorance which blinds us

we shud teach our people about guru je, their message, and our history

then they themselves will not do anything that guru je said dont do

but wat we do is tell em dont, do, dont , do

this way people will just forget the real message of sikhi, and wil start concentrating on smaller things like this, than on more important things such as meditation on naam

treat al sikhs wit repect and stay united, learn the essentials of sikhi such as bhagthi, and then people themselves will not cut their hair or drink or w.e

because once pyaar is there for guru je, only then wil people listen to the guru je truthfully

then they will realise y they shdunt do their eyebrows, it will just be out of pyaar

I've heard these kind of arguements before about how one thing is less important to talk about compared to another. I disagree with this notion..in sikhi all things are important. Sikhi is not just about doing prayers. Its not just about merely being academic, its the whole package so yes we must focus on gurbani but whats the point in having all this knowledge if we don't live our lives according to it. The Guru makes this clear when he discusses how the pandits may know their vedas inside out but whats the point in this. You can pray all you want but gurbani says 'rehat pyarri much ko'.

I have met so many 'academic' sikhs by this I mean sikhs who know so much about history, so much about ithiaas, gurbani etc but at the end of the day its your rehat which counts. I used to initially be so amazed by these people, at their giaan and at their knowledge but slowly I learnt it was the rehat which defined the amazing people not the number of sakhi's or amount of prayers you do.

I think its an assumption in ure post that people look down upon people and ure writing plays on this emotion very effectively when infact there is no judging or looking down..... The question is whether you should do eyebrows.......the answer is no.......

Why is that people rather than answering it as yes or no...write things like - why do u care, why are we talking about this topic etc?

This is not discussing the question but instead its creating a 'koina its okay' culture...You may not realise it, you may not see it but people shud be aware that its equally serious to cutting ure head hair. You keep your hair for the same reasons as other bodily hair. Therefore if ure doing ure eyebrows why do you not do ure head hair too??

I've spoken to people like I said in my last post and its because someone has told them head hair is more important but 'koina its okay' if u do ure eyebrows....this is the culture at the present. The answer is its not koina okay and I find alot of people try to stop people from speaking about this topic by saying they are judging, have ignorance or ego. These words don't make sense for the context and are just emotive ploys....

What I mean by this is lets say I said sikhs shud wear kacheray and you say nah why do u care, they shud pray, stop judging.....obviously you write it a bit more cleverer than that but what u said above is actually the same......of course we still love people who do their eyebrows, I love people who do not wear turbans, people who eat meat but some things amritdhari girls do should not be happening, this is one of them and we are all accountable if we contribute to the current its acceptable culture.
