  1. smartsingh... i thought half the reason this forum was going down was BECAUSE the old members (i.e you) started leaving the forum..

where's the self-sacrifice buddy? let's bring back the arcade, that way you're stuck on S/S all day long!! hahahaha

  2. came across this a while ago.. other than the fact that it appears that baba kirpal singh is a bit more than "just" a baba for them (i.e..pehraps gurudom), some of the articles were actually really nice to read... not out of line with sikhi, although, you must remember to read with caution.... perhaps not a coincidence that Ruhani Sat Sang uses the same initials as RSS? That being said, from a spirituality aspect, some of the articles on there are nice.

  3. A fantastic choice, and LONG overdue.

Having met jaspaul quite a few yaers ago, and then mandeep shortly after, I've been able to see (sometimes from afar, and someteimes from closer up) how she's Guru-centred her life.

More importantly, she's understood that she doesn't get to decide if guruji's using her as a tool to spread the message. Whereas most of us shy away from taking repsonsibiliy (ahem..me :umm: ) , she'll at least give it a shot, and if it works, great... if not, then it wasn't the right time.

ALTHOUGH, now she spreads rumours too.... she's always tellin people that jaspaul likes wearing pink because it brings out his feminine eye structure...

    tsk tsk!

congratulations to sikhsangat on choosin a strong yom

  4. just to address Balait's comment

why have multiple topics in a forum? why not just one big free for all where everyone can contribute whatever it is they want in one massive thread?

In my personal opinion, introspection is a very important concept in Sikhi. If there's something you're not 100% confident about, does that mean you shuldn't face it? My hope is that people at least TRY to write something about multiple topics, even if they feel they don't have substantial knowledge on it. It hasn't been mentinoed in a while, but i think lakhvir veerji mentioned it when he started this concept a couple years ago, when he said the writer of the essay shuld learn at least as much as the reader.

If it was a free-for-all, yeah, it'd still be nice, but it'd be much less prone to having people introspect and SEARCH for an opinion ,a belief, or so forth... and if someone wants to suggest a topic, they're more than welcome to PM me.

    ---------------------------

    back to the essays.

  5. haha i still remember when we had the big yahoo! pool olympics... we even had a whole section in the funs ection..

damn that punia kaur from kuwait! haha or wherever she wa from... she was the only person i couldn't beat for the pool championship gold medal!

The blogs' weren't bad... but, didn't quite serve a purpose either.. the only one worth reading with anjaan's and APKF veerji's haha.. and both of embarely post anymore!

  6. :umm: defintely not competition... just trying to share what little we all know with each other.

haha and no pressures! Some people find it relieving to just sit and write about non-school things... so ,if you're one of those poeple, then this is the thing for you!

  7. I think a deadline is in order... otherwise it's just gonna hang out here, and no one's going to put any urgency into it.

Therefore, I'm going to suggest all essays be in by April 20th.

I will ask Mods/Admin to LOCK this topic so that no more contributions will be accepted after that date. (...hehe..TOUGH love)

    Let's hope we have contributors!

  8. Been a while, thought I'd do another one. Maybe people are ready to share their feelings a bit more?

admins, please keep this in general, temporarily.

what is love? how is it defined, for you? How do you know you love someone, something, or even God, the formless one? How are you loving, and how has being loving and caring and compassionate been implemented in your daily life? How do you feel, as a result, that you are helpnig the world that you live in, and what do oyu wish to do more of in the future?

please try not to form your answers under headings of each question... try to make it a smooth read. Everyone, including me (maybe especially me), wishes people were more loving... but, that means different things to different people... with love being an underlying pillar of Sikhi, it would be interesting to see everyone's views.

  9. what about adding a moderator to the team who only has access to moderating gupt section, and only has gupt section responsibilties?

such a member would not be allowed to moderate anything in the other sections, and thus, would have to devote 100% of their moderating time in the gupt section.

That way, the gupt sectino would receive special attention.

  10. right, but she's a propagandist with a big following.... people like listenin to her

.. and you can't beat me in anything, a) because i'm better than you at BOTH tic-tac-toe and checkers, and b) since you've BLOCKED me MSNically speaking tongue.gif

  11. The biggest problem is that almost everyone on this forum, including me, has way too hard a time saying

    "oh, maybe you're right"

There's always been discussion and even almost-arguments before.. me and smartsingh24 used to have our spats back in the day, but it was still jus brotherly... the stuff that goes on now is just unbelievable.

You just KNOW kim bolan's having a freaking field day with all this bull----... no one thinks twice about what kind of message they're sending out to non-sikhs reading this board... as if they thikn there's some sort of verification process that confirms a person's sikhi before they can post or read topics.

Everyone wants to appear "oocha".. it's human nature, but you'd think a bit of compassion would come in... but now, it's like agreeing to disagree is a crime, that if someone does it, it shows weakness... all of a sudden, you're a better singh if you can win an argument... it's twisted logic.

If I have ever caused anyone any grief, or come under the definitoin of having abused, i apologize sincerely.

We shouldn't be afraid to discuss and have opposing thoughts and opinions... sikhi's stronger for it... pardon the analogy, it's the concept i'm thinking of, but it's like how important diversification is in bacteria, so that the entire species can continue procreating.. how some build immunity against antibiotics and stuff...

we need to understand the strengths that lie in our community, and realize that maybe one of the different thought-processes is a strength , not a weakness.

Shukar Hai, everything happens at the right time. hopefully w elearn and grow from it.

    Vaheguru

  12. Yeah, Guruka Singh is amazing.. i remember sittin up almost all night one night jus checkin out all his links on gurmustak singh's blog haha... i had jus watched one, and then started looki for others, and before i knew it, it was like 4 am hahaha

he really conveys alot of love and peace in his videos... and he looks so jolly! haha

  13. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

    Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

The Sikh Youth of Ottawa, under the "Ottawa Carleton Sikh Students Association" banner, would like to announce the upcoming Sikh Day event, on March 30th 2007, from 6:30 - 8:30pm, with a reception following to meet the guests.

This year's theme is Lights Camera Action, and features Sikhs in Cinema, and Sikhism in Cinema.

The headline guest this year will be Kevin Lee, a man of Asian Descent, who voluntarily made a documentary called "Warrior Saints", profiling Sikhism, and viewing the aftermath of 9/11 from a Sikh perspective. He will also be available for question and answer following the screening of the movie.

Trailers of many movies will be shown, as well as musical performances by The Tabla Guy, Gurpreet Channa (www.thetablaguy.com), as well as the Dilruba School of Music, from Ottawa, led by Opinder Singh Veerji.

  14. tanu kaur, don't ask the majority of the people on this board to go through any sort of introspection.

it won't happen... people are much happier to take the easy route in finding flaws in others.

in finance, there's something called "relative valuation" where a firm is valued relative to another... and to start that unit, my prof quoted a Jerry Seinfeld quote from a Seinfeld episode:

"if you think I'm crazy, wait till you meet the guy across the hall."

I'ts like we're doin the ame thing with God... "hey god, if you think I'm a moorakh...wait till you see them naamdharis!", because we assume that we can never be wrong with our opinions.

I also love how pretty much no one has really commented on Badal's stupidity for the donation, and more people have just used it as an excuse to rip naamdharis.

  15. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH FOR YOUR OWN CHILD WHEN IT COMES OT MATTERS LIKE THIS

when i saw the news about this i was like "cool", but the things that can go wrong aren't anyhting to laugh at.. It may be more valuable to find a middle ground... usually the umbilical cord is cut within 2 or 3 seconds of birth... 2 minutes is a lot of time, and if you raed many of the articles (i.e news.google.com), there are some interesting side effects should you wait TOO long:

The practice of immediate cord cutting is also done to lower the chance of polycythemia- a condition in which the number of red blood cells increases making the blood thicker and less likely to flow properly throughout the baby.

but yeah, the beneftis to waiting are big too.. more red blood cells to carry oxygen...higher iron count (especially important for girls), lower risk of anemia.... but please do the correct research!

  16. It takes a great deal of maturity and common sense to decide to take amrit that some just may not have at a younger age...

that being said Some people can experience this at early ages like 5 or 6... others it takes longer... 17/18... and some take even longer and are in their adulthood or middle ages or even old age... There's no definition of when it's best... everyone is just different, and it happens when it's supposed to, really....

most people probably would'nt be mature enough at a young age, but that's not a steadfast rule or anything
