  1. Bhai Gurdas Jee tells us that Guru is willling to meet anyone who wants to meet him.

    Charan Sharan Gur Ek Paenda Jaaey Chal, Satgur Kot Painda Aagay Hoey Layt Hai.

    You've identified the three "golden rules" that Guru Nanak Dev Ji set out. however those rules are not the be all end all, nor do they tarnish, contradict or demean any of the other concepts of sikhi.

    We TRY to do keerat karni, we TRY to vand ke chhak, we TRY to jap naam. We're confusing our Efforts "jatan" with actual kamayee.... when you TRY to cross the street, you may fall on your face halfway there, you can not then CLAIM that you crossed the street simply because you tried to.

    We jap naam, but do we really experience it? We're trying to experience it, and that's our bhuleykha... we try to do it, therefore we have assumed that we have done it...

    So, my point is to say... how do you know that you're not already in the process of merging with God? do you have a tried/tested/true formula for "trying" to merge with God?

    Perhaps it is something that just happens on its own, as you do naam, as you do seva, as you share with others and live an honest life? Maybe you have no control over it. Maybe by partaking in Naam Japna, Keerat Karni, Vand Ke Chhakna, you are in fact creating your highway to God that you are travelling uncosciously, and one day will reach the end of the highway without evne knowing you ever got on that highway to begin with.

    Or I'm jus talkin mush!

  2. personally, i think alot of it has to do with how alot of people tese days treat amrit like it's some magic potion.

    amrit is new blood, it's supposed to vibrate within each and every vein of your body, it's not a one-off ingest and have magical effects.

    but in order for it to flow through the veins, the proper atmosphere has to have been created to promote that. You can't plant a seed in a pile of mud and expect a beautiful plant with huge, blossoming flowers to grow.

    There IS effort involved, and that's the most important part. Amrit is NOT (or at least, not ALWAYS) this drink that by taking it, you turn into a saint. No one turns into a saint, not without any kamaaee or effort. WE Must be careful to not treat amrit like it's a swig from a shot glass. "jus take it man. everyone's doing it". Harsh analogy? probably.. but that's what the attitude seems to be.

    The problem is that when people read this, they're gonna say "oh so now you'er saying amrit isn't important". And that is a huge issue in our current generation. so focussed on only one way being right and all others being wrong. I personally respect if you disagree with me, but i also suggest that i'm not wrong. that doesn't mean that those who think otherwise ARE wrong. Amrit is by far, extremely important. but it takes kamaee to make the most of it, and just having taken it isn't a guarantee that you're a great human being.

    so whlie amrit is the most sacred, most holiest, most divine gift god has ever given us, we have to be willing to accept it and make the most of it, and if we aren't, then tough luck that it'll have the monumental effects that it has on someone who IS ready to be cultivated.

    I await the bashing hehe :lol:

    Vaheguru.

  3. From Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet":

    Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."

    And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.

    And with a great voice he said:

    When love beckons to you follow him,

    Though his ways are hard and steep.

    And when his wings enfold you yield to him,

    Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

    And when he speaks to you believe in him,

    Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

    For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.

    Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,

    So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

    Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.

    He threshes you to make you naked.

    He sifts you to free you from your husks.

    He grinds you to whiteness.

    He kneads you until you are pliant;

    And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

    All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

    But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,

    Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,

    Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

    Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.

    Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;

    For love is sufficient unto love.

    When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, I am in the heart of God." And think not you can direct the course of love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

    Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.

    But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

    To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

    To know the pain of too much tenderness.

    To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

    And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

    To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

    To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

    To return home at eventide with gratitude;

    And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

  4. im hoping for a canucks v. lightning final .. but it prob will end up being sabres or rangers from the east .. either way canucks will be taking it this year !

    was this the message you wanted me to quote?

    regardless...

    i for one would like to say that I'm proud of my boys... and i'm obviously upset at not winning it all.. and yes, no one remember who finishes second... but this is a huge step for us as an organization, and i wanna thank the playrs and the fans.. it's unreal how the community built this summer...

    i painted my van windows all in sens stuff and put stickers all over the body of the van and stuff...and i have this six foot sens flag that i would wave out the windows while i drove... and... when you'd be walkin down the street in sens gear.... it seemed like everyone was your best friend... ihand shaking... backslapping.. stopping to make conversation, and not even knowing the other person's name... day after day, NUMEROUS times a day... it was an unbelievable, amazing season, and I'm VERY proud of my team...

    bring on your jokes!.. bring on your insults!... but don't call this team a choke... not a great way to bow out, losing 6-2 in just game 5...... but the better team won this series... I love the sens, i love alfie, and i still love emery... it doesn't take a genius to see he had an off game, just as giguere had an off game in game 3, and just as emery had a brilliant performance in game 2.

    but you'll only be showing a severe lack of any intellect if you call the second best team in the league a "choke", cuz they lost in their first appearance in the stanley cup finals.

    Sooo.. anyone who wants to say emery sucks... power to you... but i still contend that you have to be an <banned word filter activated> to say that, cuz he played well. I don't remember the last time a "sucky" goalie makes it to the finals.. perhaps you'd like to provide some names..

    Thanks for the ride Senssssssssss!

    Go Sens Go!

  5. If you don't wanna hang out with monay, don't.

    but don't you dare expect them to bend over backwards for you or do anything for you, and don't you dare expect other people in general to provide you with anything. I would be extremely entertained to see how good you avoid those damn "faithless cynics" you work with.. btw, just by working with them, you are automatically associating with them....so you associate with faithless cynics.

    instead of complaining about that literal translation and running around with the term"faithless cynic", why don't you folks become a little bit LESS faithless, a bit MORE faithful, and have FAITH that if you do everyhting with a pure heart and a pure mind, your Guru will never let you falter..

    how's that for some faith?

    That's some serious elitism... what next....Don't do daswand for charities that try to help that part of humanity that is Mona??

  6. yeah.. i jus went through that other thread too.

    unreal.... i don't have words to describe the absolute stupidity of people.

    childish, immature, and elitist all at the same.. what an odd combination.

  7. Okay Guys.

    This is it, the final stretch.

    we're just over a week away, and we're only a few hundred dollars away from the goal!!!

    I haven't yet updated the cash donations, but we're still a solid 400 dollars away from our goal..

    almost there sangat ji, almost there!

    donations aren't restricted to canadian donors. Americans and europeans can partake as well!

    vaheguru

  8. i don't understand...

    are yo usuggesting, then, that we should be telling her that she will burn in hell?

    that she should be locked up in a cave?

    that she should never take any steps to move on in life and have a future?

    that she should forever, and ever, live her life based upon one incident with a guy, forgetting the fact that she's been a 100% moral human being outside of that action?

    i don't understand what you mean when you say we're jus "gonna tell her what she wants to hear".

    Why further make her repent for something she's already admitted was in indiscretion on her part? if she's already recognized her mstake, as a 24-year old woman, you suggest, it seems, that it's our job to baby her and remind her about it every chance we get? Sounds childish to me.

    None of us can change her past, so obviously people are going to tell her what she could do to move on into the future. She's of marriageable age, so it's not like this is jus some excuse to get up with another guy..she's genuinely interested in someone... someone whom she wants to spend the rest of her life with.

    finally, you make it sound like I know you just because we're both registered members hahaha... you really think posting it in gupt makes the world of difference? because she doesn't wanna display her name? For all i know, your name is Prabhjot, Prabhdeep, Prabhleen, Harprabh, Prabhu... all of a sudden you've become a lot more anonymous too! So why do YOU post on these forums?

    I post on em and read them to learn... from people who know much more than me.... she's got a personal situation that she wants opinions about from people who she's probably learnt from in the past.

    My apologies if i offended you or the original poster.

  9. so yess.. i was wrong.. i admit .. i guess i over predicted on the young pens team this year ..

    but .. sens will CHOKE ..like ALWAYS !

    that my friend is a prediction that wont go wrong and you can copy this msg and throw it bak at me IF they win the cup this year.. :devil:

    ..im sorry my friend but the senaturds will NOT win ....

    GO CANUCKS !!

    four wins left for Canada's Team, the Ottawa Senators!

  10. wow that's really cool... and yeah jai tegang veerji's thought process is fantastic.... finding the first name would help SO much... but i'm not sure what would be easier.. going through old martial records? or going through old medical school records... and which would be more readily available...

    i guses another dumb question is...what are the chances that records are kept from as far back as 1700 about what school a medicine student studied at... then again, the British hav ebeen known for their meticulousness as was mentioned before....so i suppose there IS achance!

    It's a kinda cool jump into the past... just remember to not get so so so caught up in it that you forget about the present! but it definitely would be cool to get a bit more on Doctor Cole's experience in Punjab.
