  1. exactly...sikhi teaches us not to follow the superstitions such as the hindus do...so if guru ji warns us from doing idol worship etc how can hindus reach god for doing idol worship/
  2. why what are your views on it?
  3. But this is what i mean, it isnt other peoples fault to which religion they are born into? or would you say our previous deeds etc have an impact on this?
  4. WJKK WJKF We believe there is 1 god.....however all other religions are doing their own thing but still the same path to reach that 1 god.....BUT.....for example muslims eat halal meat...so if a muslim leads a good/peaceful life but continues to eat halal meat...will he still reach this 1 god? How can this 1 god let some eat meat etc and not others? WJKK WJKF
  5. this is what im trying to get at, although we dont follow 'mata's' followings and teachings etc do we still acknowledge them?
  6. Why does manikaran gurdwara have pics of mata etc?
  7. i didnt know that...so do you have to get your name change by deed poll etc?
  8. well now you belong to the family of the KHALSA panth!
  9. Maybe it's because we classify people as Sikh too easily based on their name having Singh/Kaur or the fact that they keep a turban & beard. Maybe we should also look at the individual's reni/beni before we look at them as being Sikh. It's a tough one!! Why does Manikaran gurdwara have calendar pics of mata etc?
  10. lets implent the issue of sikhs visiting/believing in devtae in this thread,, And achieve what? Change the world from behind our PCs posting comments on SikhSangat.com. When we have role models like the mahan Gursikhs who are doing the sewa outlined in the first posting most of us still want to focus on the negative state of peoples belief system. Again it's all about the half empty glass v the half full glass. If we only focus on the negative side will only see negativity. If we can see that there's a postivity in every situation then we will be closer to understanding what "Chardi Kala" is. It's ironic that the Sikhs get the publicity for carrying out the sewa of the dead, not the Hindus or any Chritian aid workers. Surley we should learn from that and have some pride for our GurSikhs carrying out GuruJi's sewa. 'and achieve what?'.... Think about how many new users log into this forum...why not educate them? I think you might niavly think that this internet forum will change the world and there's mass exposure by posting on sikhsangat.com. The old saying is that "actions speak louder than words" and that's why to me the GurSikhs carrying out the sewa of the dead is of a greater importance. If you wish to focus soley on the devi worshiping than like suggested start another thread or join in on one of the numerous older threads which have already discussed this. There's nothing more inspirational than good actions, genuine sewa and integrity. Most people are inspired by those positive attributes and are more likely to implement change in their jeevans when seeing the actions of role models. glass half full or empty? i appreciate the point of sikhs helping out in this moment of need but 1 needs to establish why some sikhs were there in the first place. In this thread we have already acknowledged sikhs have helped out and god bless them. Why does Manikaran gurdwara have calendar pics of mata etc?

  13. Worshipping a book is not different than praying to an idol! - is that not true ? We bow before the 'book' - not the paper its printed on but the teachings which have been written by all, will you ever find a hindu 'book' with writings of any muslim saints? As for hindus and idol worship - bowing before clay? Guru's had kept their kesh...for arguments sake even if they hadnt the pics arent as important as we do not before before them...thats what hindus do with idol worship. Finally....pictures of hindu gods with many heads/elephant heads etc? However we still have respect for them....they just havent got space for us to listen to their teachings as its all superstition.
  14. The issue raised needs to be addressed so we can be educated ...
  15. pyare veer, very good post. God bless u. Yes, I lived in delhi for some years and the "sikhs" there have made a joke of sikhi. They wear monkey caps, kharrka talllis at mandirs, speak that disgraceful punjabi, lie so much in business that even hindu shop keepers lie less than these "sikhs". Yes, man India is doomed. Regarding educated Indians, what is education ? INdian educational system is just cramming and slogging like donkeys all ur life. This is the "gyan" they get. Educated Indians feel inferior to speak their mother tongue or dress in their traditional dress. They cram lyrics of english songs. Thats what many of my ex-colege duded did ,hahahaha. Am i correct in believing that we acknowledge these 'devtae' but we obviously dont follow their teachings....then why acknowledge them in the first place? Also at Manikaran gurdwara they have pictures of mata etc in calendar forms> WJKK WJKF
  16. Thanks for the posts Thanks for the posts Another stupid question but where can i read about Undithi Duinya ?
  17. WJKK WJKF This is a really weird question but im curious; when a person passes away i know jhamdoots come and get the soul - does the soul see any of his other family members?
  18. wjkk wjkf Thats exactly what im talking about...have you got any more info about this? Why do people make this place for them? Are they closer to god? wjkk wjkf the reason why ppls made these places are simply they dont have faith in sikhi and dont beleive that guru ji capable to anything and everything. these people tend to go to dera like ram rahim and have no knowledge, love and understanding of the sikh religion. as said above, these have nothing to do with sikhi, and Shri guru gobind singh ji has clearly says in his bani (twe parshaad swaye patshahee 10): kaahoo lai paahan pooj dhharayo sir kaahoo lai li(n)g garae lattakaaeiou || Some worship idols by putting those on their heads; some dangle lingam (Phallic symbol of Shiva) from their necks. kaahoo lakhiou har avaachee dhisaa mehi kaahoo pashhaah ko sees nivaaeiou || Some believe Hari (God) to be stationed south direction others prostrate to the west, (Considering Allah's presence there). kooo buthaan ko poojath hai pas kooo mrithaan ko poojan dhhaaeiou || Many fools worship images in the temples whereas others dash to worship graves or cemeteries. koor kriaa ourajhiou sabh hee jag seer bhagavaan ko bhaedh n paaeiou || 10||30|| All human beings in the world are entangled in false and ungodly ceremonies and none has found God's secret. (10)(30) but the sad thing is that when we go to punjab and look into the green fields... you can see these type of "madi or kabar called jatherey". they are so many... anything in the fields with little room and a small flag outside is nothing else but someonce jatherey.... hope this answers your question... wjkk wjkf sorry to be a pain but im trying to understand this in more depth, are these spirits which havent got a space and roam around etc? My family has this type of 'madi' and hold an akhand path there every yr, but reading about this in sikhi ive established this type of thing is wrong. BUT - why so many of these types of places in the punjab - must be some type of reason why people have acknowledged to build this for their ancestors? Thanks in advance wjkk wjkf
  19. wjkk wjkf Thats exactly what im talking about...have you got any more info about this? Why do people make this place for them? Are they closer to god?
  20. sorry probably wasnt clear enough. By jhaga i mean the little buildings you see next to the road (or whereeva) that are for your ancestors (shaeed singh) that have passed away in your family. i know this is against sikhi as have heard katha on it but alot of families have em?
  21. WJKK WJKF Im new to this so firstly hello! This is going to probably sound weird but has any1 got/had experience of having a 'jhaga' in india?
