exactly!!! u may feel that ur in love and u feel on the top of the world ( dnt say i dnt knw how u feel cz i do knw how u feel) and so on bt these feelings only last until fr a short amount of time

bt if u get physical before marriage even kissing and stuff its gnna take away all the pleasure and understanding plus as sikhs (amritdhari or not) we are nt required to get physical... do u knw how ppl in the victorian ages dated?? well they were too off the top bt they did not get physical cz they always had a chaperone... so if u wanna be able to retain your amrit di daat then u dont wanna take this drastic step cz when u take amrit you try to abstain frm doing this kind of stuff... (thats why ppl marry)

and if u cant control yourself avoid going to each other s houses and go out with frnds and Stay in public places

hope you wont get mad or anyone who s reading my advice

    cz it s just advice

if im wrong please forgive me

  2. gur fateh jio

i have a really good frnd who is a amritdhari bt she like s to remove her facial hair and when i tell her not to she gets mad at me infact she doesnt like my explanations at all.....

so can one of you tell me as to wat reason should i give her so she quit s doing this stuff??

i dnt wnna mess up my frndship with her bt then i also dnt want her to do this.. :(

hope one of you can give me a nice and solid reason as to why we amritdhari s cant remove our facial hair or any kind of hair anywhere so i can save her and our frndship...

    gur fateh jio

  3. Tulsi Das's bani is not within the Sri Guru GRanth Sahib Ji and neither is the above quoted line within the Sri Guru GRanth Sahib Ji.

Tulsi Das created some great works including the Tulsi Ramayan and the Dohavali. You will be able to find his works on the internet.

I believe the above quote is fromt e Dohavali

    oh ok

    sorry

i guess i messed up the name

    sorry

    WAIT !

    lol

does this mean boyfrnds ar allowed?

adina jee you need to read the entire paragraphs i wrote ,and not nit pick .i am trying to state the bigger picture in my post .i am not here to try to define whether the person you get married should be ''fixed '' for you or whether its someone you get to know . Who knows the magical twists and turns that God can trigger for a relationship to start and end up as a marriage ,unless life is nothing but a strict set of rules you follow robotically .A bf may be just a guy you get to know, where the friendship develops to be husband and wife .My post is there to answer the original question mentioned in this post ,not to compromise or promote any sort of anti-gurmat licenstious /promiscuous behaviour .The intention of my post is to inspire youths to think along gurmat lines ,and i hope thats what you derived from my post if you read it line by line .We are not here to just argue ,debate with one another showing off our debating skills ,egoistically .We are here to inspire each other ,learn from each other ,and interact with each other humbly .opinions can be endlessly debated upon but truth is realised by dwelling on other's wisdom ,thinking out of the box a bit ,and stretching your imagination a bit as well as allowing others to touch your passion and your heart .Idont contribute on this forum to demonstrate my intellectual skills with an over alert ego waiting to pounch on the tiniest thing i can find wrong with someone else's contribution .Rather ,i read carefully what you or others may write and create a mental picture of what a blessed and inspired sikh you are ,and the insights Gurujee has given you or others .This forum is here for us to get passionate about sikhi ,to be able to see sikhi beyond the narrow parochial interpretations it has been given in the past ,to be fired up about sikhi ,to let sikhi shine ablaze in our hearts .my every contribution is an endeavour in that direction as to what can i write that will inspire both me and others to love sikhi ,and see it as a relevant force in our lifes .Sikhi is definately not about getting panic attacks over every tiny thing another can write that does not fit into your convenient orderly arrangement of words and sentences that are politically correct in your mind .it is the content of my post that you need to focus on ,not a random word i may have loosely used (relative in its meaning)to share what i consider is gurmat .

sorry veer ji........ i had no intention watsoever of doing that

    sorry if i offended u

  7. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups light brown sugar

    1/2 cup granulated sugar

    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 teaspoons of EnrG egg replacer

    4 tablespoons of warm water

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon baking soda

    1 - 10oz bag toffee candy bits

    1 cup oatmeal

1 1/2 cups grated coconut (you can use the package kind of you want)

    1 1/3 cups sliced almonds

In a stand mixer, mix butter and sugars on medium speed until fluffy. Mix the egg replacer and water well in a small bowl, then add that and the vanilla extract and mix until creamy. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda. Add these dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, using low speed. Then add the toffee bits, oatmeal, coconut and almonds on low speed, scraping the bowl often. You can mix them by hand if you want, but I think the mixer is fine.

Drop 2 tablespoons of dough about 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet. You'll want to line the cookie sheet with parchment paper first, because these cookies will stick to the pan otherwise.

Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees and cool on a wire rack.

I use all organic ingredients (except for the toffee candy!), and try to buy local whenever possible. i really think it helps the taste, not to mention the environment and our health!

EnerG egg replacer can be found here: http://www.ener-g.com/store/detail.aspx?se...cat=8&id=97

There is no good substitute for the egg replacer. It is a magical staple ingredient in my house. :)

    omg!!!!!!!

    neat yo!

im so baking these cookies tonite...naah wait! 2morrow! lol

    thanks !

  8. 1)love and attachment look alike but are 2 different things .when ppl say they love someone ,in lots cases they are just attracted /attached to the emotional/intelectual/physical in the other person and somewhere along the line it fizzes out and flattens ,ending up in a mess .sikhs are supposed to indulge in being attached /attracted /in love with the beauty of God and Guru ,whilst radiating love equivally to all ,never playing favourites with partners .

2)your bf/gf/fiancee/partner/husband/wife is a gift from God .so its about searching the inner voice of Guru within , confirmed by a hukumnama as to who that person should be .For a sikh connected intimately to Gurujee ,you may even be given a dream /some sort of vision or confirmation ahead of your partner's arrival .That partner can come as a surprise in a packaging ,challenging all your preconceived notions about the skin colour /race or religion of your future partner .God is a God of unpredictability and his gifts too can be unpredictable .

3)Never feel intimidated if your partner is of another skin colour .sikhi is meant for the whole world not just for a bunch of ppl from the racial stock of punjab or a bunch of white american sikhs .if you are a beautiful sikh ,beautiful in your sikhi ,it wil be like a beautiful fragrant cloud that will envelope your partner all over .

4)Do not be intimidated by your parents into marrying someone that satisfies their racist or bigoted views about intermarrying within your own racial group/jaat etc .you marry hopefully once and marriage is about your future not theirs so it has to be a decision based on your own free will and preferences in accordance with Gurbani .Gurbani encourages us to be close to ppl who love God ,are not destructive /in destructive habits ,ppl who are humble ,pure ,honest ,not egoistic and aiming to be above kaam ,krodh ,lobh ,moh ,hankaar .ppl who love sewa .simran and satsang .

5)one of my close friends was being forced by his parents to marry a fellow jat girl .this girl was panicking that he takes a cold bath at amritvela .my friend was even warned not to talk to this sikh girl about sikhi else she may get put off .he ended up marrying a thai girl who has taken on a sikh name ,loves being taken to gurudwara ,loves kara parshad ,encourages him to take a cold shower for amritvela and do his amritvela jaap etc etc etc . she was more than happy for their daughter to be named '' gurmantar kaur '' .

6)in another case(true story) ,a gursikh girl i know ,from her teenage life always fantasised having a handsome scandinavian white bf/husband . as time went along she focussed on loving gurujee ,amritvela jaap ,etc etc etc ,never making any demand on Gurujee to fulfill her desire .a few years ago ,she started getting dreams either before/after amritvela about a real humble ,handsome man showing her soo much true love .she ignored those dreams and focussed on kirtan/naam .oneday she met a very handsome/loving white scandinavian guy who was into drugs /alcoholism and had no job and was depressed .this girl/bibi realised he was lost ,and needed a friend .in true gursikh spirit she sacrificed so much time getting him out of his troubles .Within a month he gave up his alcohol and drugs totally ,started do naaam simran ,started reading about sikhi ,read everything from bhaii gurdas varan to prof puran singh's spirit born ppl and etc .discretely she even got him to start going to gurudwara .as time went along he developed into a beautiful gursikh and they got married .a win -win situation .

7)sikhi is the most powerful force in the universe .nothing can intimidate /contain /limit it .our responsibility is to spread it as a fragrance into the entire world .everyone of the 6 odd billion ppl on earth needs sikhi .

    so true !

    that is so true!

bt its weird that our punjabi ppl ar not so much into sikhi as ar ppl from other races....

idk its just an observation......... i mean all the punjabi guys at my gurudwara ar clean shaven and those who hav darha sahibs hav em cut ..which doesnt make any sense....... whereas on the other hand guys from other religions like sikhi alot and dnt hesitate from converting and keeping full rehat

idk why our ppl say its bad to marry someone frm another race/culture/religion etc etc

i think as long as your partner helps you achieve the goal that we all came to achieve its all cool

    so race/culture/religion dnt matter

bt parents these days ar so adamant! <_<

    WAIT !

    lol

  10. Sikhi is a global religion. Many of the cultural habits and hypocratic lifestyles of punjabi/indian sikhs are prohibiting the spread of sikhi as a global religion.

I personally would love to marry a gori amritdhari bibi than somebody from punjabi culture.

So if there is some rishta of a gori bibi for a browny like me, please contact my parents as I am too shy, sharmeelaa to talk about my own marriage.

I dont know why God has made me soo cute and soo sharmeelaa, hahaha

    lol veer ji!

actually i would love that too!marrying a gora singh bt then my parents will go nuts and make my life a living hell so yea

dreams ar best left as dreams lol.........

  11. interesting observation. Given that there is no hierarchy or clergy in sikhi, every sikh is a chaplain. Not in the mood for an endorsement for the us army today, but every sikh who wants to enlist, should do so as a chaplain.

screw that, i'm enlisting as commander-in-chief

    dear veer ji !

u cant enlist as a commander in chief...lol

u gtta become an officer before u do that

    :D

  12. I've been amritdhari for the past couple years now and have never gone swimming since taking amrit. My question is what do amritdhari people do with their kirpans when going swimming if its possible to go at all??

tie it into your keski. for girls, wear shorts that will cover your kachhera and a modest swim top. it's totally possible (and fun) to go swimming, even as an amritdhari. :)

i'd actually encourage everyone to know how to swim. it's a skill that could save someone's life someday.

ok i totally got your point bhenji

bt wat abt the amritdhari girls?

i mean we dont actually wear shorts cz of our hairy legs...(sorry guys)

    so :umm:

    any ideas?

  13. lol. talk about going totally off topic, but its ok.

like you know wat i always be telling u to do? well yea, mines are not comeing along so good, and aim was not helping the situation either. and u knew i was gonna do it anyways, just a matter of time. so yea, this morning, i was like, screw this crap!

lol......... yea we ar so off topic

bt yea way to go dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    proud of u brother :)

  14. why does it matter adina? its not like anybody's gonna change ur mind on here? y u asking?

u think too much, and talk even more

    um shashtr ji !

i asked for the thoughts not for feedback or advice that ll change my mind about something ( or this topic...)

and why u always harping around about how much i talk ? <_< i m curious for god s sake! it s not a crime to talk as long as u are thinking before u speak !

    lol

sorry if i sounded mean veer ji !

  15. gur fateh jio!

as usual i get some weirdo thought when im driving around........

    just a thought

wat do u all think about gursikhs (amritdhari sikhs) joining the u.s air force,u.s navy,u.s marine corps or the u.s army? :gg:

i mean with the law passed which doesnt allow turbaned singhs to fight at the frontlines ( they can serve but not active duty)

so i just wanted to knw how u guys felt about this topic

    gur fateh ji !

  16. ^rofl

    bhenji basically said

if u like to read, read

if u dont like to read, there's libraries and websites for u to go to where u can read

    she has a point though

best way to learn is read

    readreadreadreadread

    read.

    lol..........

thanks fr supporting my point veer ji ! u r the first one whos actually said "read read!"

all my czns ar like"u insane? we punjabis dnt read!"

  17. idk............

bt the common response when our elder s hear abt someone adopting a kid is " they cant hav a kid ..hence they adopted that kid!"

well im pro adoption cz wats the harm in sharing your happiness with a child who doesnt hav any happiness in his/her life? some ppl say yu gtta be rich to do so ... ( i laugh at em ) cz u dnt need alot of money to make a child happy just gtta put in the efforts............. there ar so many kids ( meaning children of the shaheed singhs) who deserve the same kind of lifestyle that we v got here ( and take for granted of course!) for example: great education, oppurtunities to earn some pocket money, awesome libraries, ways to accomplish ur dreams etc etc and honestly they deserve more than us cz their parents sacrificed so much for khalsa panth... cnt we do something for them?............

other than just build foundation stones and leave those projects uncompleted? and those who are trying to make lives better for these children ar being mocked at and their projects being disrupted an so on.........

i am adopting 2 kids.. ( i mean i had made up my mind before a long time before! bt my best frnd said i was crazy to think like this <_< ....... so yea i gt discouraged bt i am adopting 2 kids....)

  18. adina, u talk too much. now stop laughing, and tell me where the arcade is!

    omg shastr ji !!

how am i supposed to know abt a so called arcade that i havent even heard about! :umm:

care tellin me more abt it?

say waheguru six and a half times pay me five dollars and 3.62456 bags of rice 2 percent of which is wheat

after doing this contact the admin team

all your problems will be solved

    wow!

dude! india de vich rishwat face to face sunee see bt this is the first time iv actually seen a bribe request and that too on a forum !

    lol

u guys ar just awesome

  19. gur fateh ji!

dnt hesitate at all! if u r thinking of taking amrit thats great!

bt do not take amrit with the mind set of "experimentation"

be strong and maharaj will himself guide u cz he is the one who blesses everyone

if he wishes it anything that u want will happen

just do ardaas so u dnt waver frm this thought and stay firm

    so.................

    good luck!

and do tell us when u become a part of the khalsa family !

    gur fateh !
