  1. Riiiight...thanks for the informative response. :mellow2:
  2. I think the key point here is that Christmas isn't even a religious festival anymore. OK, so it might be for a few hardcore Christians here and there, but all the Christians I know celebrate it purely as a cultural thing. My family puts up a tree and gives presents - doesn't make us any less Sikh. We do it because it's the cultural thing to do in England - being a Sikh isn't about alienating yourself from society, it's about integrating (and maintaining the right balance). Sure, if we started worshipping Jesus etc then of course that would be wrong as Sikhs, but for us it holds no religious value - purely a cultural time where most people have time off work because it's a national holiday, so the the family can get together, have dinner, exchange gifts. Just my 2 cents worth. WJKK WJKF
  3. I was active on Topix Sikh forum around a year ago, trying to act as an unofficial moderator, but to no avail. There's just too much derogatory stuff being posted ALL the time. I even contacted them to ask if they could assign me a moderator position, but they did not reply. The behaviour on that forum is disgusting, just as equally from people calling themselves "Sikhs", but who spit out filth as bad as others. Some sort of action needs to be taken, I just don't know what Bul chuk maaf WJKK WJKF
  4. lol that AVG is a pirate copy, i heard AVG is totally useless and the only real good protection is Panda...??? I don't like AVG either.. I have free version of AVG and it is not very effective. Other anti-viruses are heavy in size which slows down my comp.. Any recommendations? Sat Sri Akal ji, I used to use AVG but it got too bloated and ineffective with recent versions, now i use Avira AntiVir free edition. It has the highest detection rates out of all anti-virus programs, according to av-comparitives.org
  5. I hope so too The one I initially linked to has been shut down, however there are hundreds more, the most prominent called "lmto - laughing my turban off", which has 150,000 fans
  6. Sat Sri Akal, Enough people reported the group and facebook didn't delete it, but they banned any commenting on it so that no-one could write anything. However, a couple of days ago that ban was lifted! This is getting ridiculous, because of the influence of that group people are creating loads of other turban-related groups, spawning more offensiveness and hatred, and there are now hundreds of those groups which people seem to think are "funny".
  7. Haanji Veerji, I know what you mean I just noticed that the creator of the group I reported has now changed the pic, and it is no longer a Sikh. However, there is still the huge problem of ignorance on Facebook. The thing I find most annoying is that many people calling themselves "Sikhs" (I don't view them as Sikhs really, they are not following any of the Sikh principles really) get all angry on these pages and start swearing and being racist back. I explain to them that this does not help at all, and they are only making things worse, but then they start being abusive to me as well!
  8. Done that already, Facebook don't seem to do it unless people report in the masses. I remember a year or so back, there was a similar group to this, reporting it alone did not achieve anything, however I spread the word about this group to my friends and soon hundreds of people had reported it, and Facebook had to take action and remove it. It just saddens me to see the amount of racism in the world
  9. There seems to be a growing trend with randomly creating and joining "funny" Facebook groups. But over the last couple of days, people have been seeming to create groups about turbans. Most have been fine, not regarding us, however I came across this one: Facebook - my turban brings the taliban to the yard, & their like, we wanna bomb cars The name itself is just not funny, and the picture used is that of a Nihang Sikh! CLearly made by someone with total ignorance about Sikhi, and to make it worse people are joining and writing racist stuff for no reason whatsoever It is making me very upset. I have told al my friends about it and we have reported the group, I would be grateful if the sangat of this website could do the same. I'm just amazed at how much ignorance there is in this world. 10. Thankyou sukhjeevansingh Ji...I have not yet taken Amrit, I am 15 years old, and I am trying to get into the lifestyle of an Amritdhari, at the moment in the mornings I do Japji Sahib and in the evenings I perform Rehras Sahib. I am slowly building up my Nitnem, and eventually I will be doing the 7 bania like you say Then I hope I will be ready to take Amrit Once again, thank you for your reply, you have helped me to clear things up...Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh...
  11. Sat Sri Akal, I apologize if this has been asked before but I did a search and couldn't find it anywhere. I have always been told that the Panj bania refer to the morning banis: Jap Ji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Sawaiye, Chaupai Sahib and Anand Sahib And in the evening Rehras sahib and Kirtan sohila are also performed. However, I was looking at the Rehat maryada and noticed that it only mentions Jap Ji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Sawaiye, Rehras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila...completely missing out Chaupai and Anand Sahib from the list. Could anyone explain to me why this is? Sunny Singh  WJKK WJKF
  12. Bingo. That's my view too. Excluding Muslims doesn't achieve anything - it's not multiculturalism then. There's a difference between Muslims and extremists. Extremists are the people to exlcude from multiculturalism.
  13. Aaah OK, sorry people. Feel free to lock this thread then as well :D Admin Note: ho gaya khush? :D ...aah leh fer!! :D
  14. Sat Sri Akal, If you have a spare moment please check out this guy's YouTube channel: YouTube - nijjhar1's page His appearance seems to be Sikh but he is preaching some very strange stuff, which I saw from watching his videos  Does anyone know who he is, what sect he belongs to, or is he just weird and has his own beliefs? Thanks, Sunny This topic was locked last time for no apparent reason, so I have decided to repost it. I am not going against any forum rules as far as I know, I simply want to discuss what this guy has posted on YouTube with other members of the Sangat and hear their opinions on him. 16. I've been doing Karate for 6 years. The style I learn is Wado-Ryu. I'm now a brown belt - 2 away from black.
  17. Singh is Kinng 2 will hopefully be just as good. I have already listened to the song 100000 times and am still not bored It was a strange decision picking Snoop Dogg - in the movie he looked more Arabian/Turkish than Sikh! One more note - they should have spelt it "Singh is Kingh" - Kingh instead of Kinng.
  18. Thank you gmb_sim, someone who agrees with me
  19. Sat Sri Akal Ji, That is exactly what I think. I saw the film yesterday with my parents and grandparents and enjoyed it thoroughly. Yes, it does slightly take the mickey of some Sikhs, but in a light-hearted way. Overall, it has a good moral to it and raises awareness about Sikhs to non-Sikhs who watch the film. Also, violence is the complete opposite of what all 10 Gurujis and Guru Granth Sahib Ji were against. A just war is one thing (for example, against the Mughals) but killing innocents is what Sikhism is against. Sikhism is all about love for everyone and being at peace with everyone.
