  5. Gurmukh Laha Laige I remember seeing Bhai Sahib at many rehnsbahi and kirtain programs when I was growing up, he had such an aura and presence around him, it was so inspiring. I will always remember the lali on their chera, loving and joyful looks and most importantly their nimarta was second to none. Very sad indeed. Bhai Jeevan Singh Ji BUMPING INTO A MONA One evening, we had just finished doing keertan at Singh Sabha Slough. A singh phoned and said he had booked kirtan in Hounslow, and we should come straight away. Bhai sahib said lets go quickly, we should always be on time. As Bhai sahib, his singhni, myself and another youth walked downstairs into the joorian section. A mona was walking in the Gurdwara. He bumped into Bhai sahib. He said sorry, and looked in Bhai sahib face. Those who knows bhai sahib know how enigmatic his smile his, and how his face always shines. Bhai sahib said to him, I came here to especially see you, I have something for you. Bhai sahib took off his dastaar and handed it to him. The mona could not believe it was said to him with so much pyaar and humilty. From that day that mona kept his kesh and came into sikhi... BHAI SAHIB AT THE WORLD SIKH SAMELLEN When Proffessor Manjit Singh was the Jathedar of the Akal thakht Sahib. He called a World Sikh Smellan, which is basically a Sarbat khalsa. Every Gurdwara, sikh group, jatha around the world were invited and days of Panthik veechaar were done at Siri Akal thakht sahib. All Panthik matters were discussed. Thousands of Sikhs gathered, including all the luminories of the Panth. Many people like political leaders, or jathedars were of self interest and wanted special treatment but everyone was treated equally. No dignatory was treated any more special. However for some reason the Panj Jathedars of the Thakhts sat on a sofa and the complex where this was happening. I saw a picture of it in The Spokesman. As days of the veechars happened everyone gave their views on many subjects from rehit to khalistan. Proffesor Manjit singh wanted to get this vision of the World Sikh Council passed. As the A-Z of Sikh leadership and intelligensia sat in the sangat on the floor. A simple gursikh walked into the complex building. He walked in humbly and mattha tekked, and went to sit in the sangat. However straight away, the Jathedars got up and ran over to him, and said to him, he must sit on the sofa. Totally embarrassed he refused. But they brought him over and sat him on the sofa. He sat uncomfortably because he is not one for that kind of attention. That Gursikh was Bhai Jeevan Singh. The picture came in the Spokesman. It goes to show how highly Bhai sahib, his jeevan, his seva, and his nimarta is respected in the Panth, that only he was given such attention. It is the virtues of Guru such a pure humility that pull peoples hearts. BHAI SAHIB MAKES PEOPLE FEEL SO SPECIAL Pyare jio, I attended Toronto smagam some years back. A few other young Gursikhs from Uk also attended. Bhai sahib was at the Smagam, with many other special Gursikhs, all singing Guru jis bani, in Guru jis supreme presence. It was such a wonderful experience. The day that we arrived, in the evening, we attended the keertan. After the keertan, the sangat were just mingling with each other. Bhai sahib as always was the centre of attention. People wanted to talk to him and take pictures with him. Suddenly Bhai sahib came up to me and said fateh, and hugged me with his enigmatic smile. Another Singh had a camera, and said Bhai sahib, I want to take your picture. Bhai sahib said take my picture with these Gursikhs. On the opposite side of the room was a young Gursikh that I know. He is quite humble. He rarely comes to the foreground. In his mind, he told me later, he thought, I wish I could have my picture taken with Bhai sahib. I wish he would notice me as well. Bhai sahib straight away left us and walked swiftly over to him, and said to the photographer Singh. "Take one more with this Gursikh as well". The youth could not believe it, Bhai Sahib smiled at him. The youth said afterwards, as soon as i thought that, he came. Bhai Sahib knew exactly what I was thinking. He just smiled at me, and I know he knew what I was thinking then as well. The Gursikh was over whelmed after wards when speaking to us, and almost came to tears as he explained his emotions. This is the thing about a jeevan wale Gursikh. It is the small things that they use to bring so much joy to people in their lives. BHAI SAHIB AND AMRIT VELA After I had taken Amrit for about a year, my Amrit vela started getting slack. I used to do Amrit vela with Bhai Saun Singh and Bhai Malkit Singh regularly at Bhai Saun Singh jis house. However I had stopped being a regular as before. One day early in the morning at amrit vela, I was asleep. My father was at night shift and my mother was up doing her paath. The phone rang. It was Bhai Sahib phoning from Canada. My mother picked it up. Bhai sahib said, "is bha ji there?" Mother replied, "No, Bhai sahib, he is at night shift." Bhai sahib said, "No, I am not talking about Pita ji. Is Bha ji there" ( bhai sahib always makes himself out to be the youngest, such is his humilty) My mother came upstairs and woke me up, saying it is Bhai sahib phoning. I got up and quickly ran downstairs. I said fateh on the phone. Bhai sahib replied with Fateh, then said, "bhai ji, you have not mercy on me today, it is Amrit vela, and you forgot to wake me." there was a silence.... Honestly, never have I ever ever felt so embarrassed for missing Amrit vela. Bhai sahib said fateh, and I replied. Me and my mother looked at each other wondering how Bhai sahib in canada knew that I had that day forgotten to get up at Amrit vela, here in UK. Bhai Saheb Jee, the Sooraa: When Operation Blue Star happened in India, a year later a big march was organized (an annual event) in Washington, DC. All the "leaders" made big speeches. Bhai Saheb Jee was invited to the podium. At the US Capitol steps he said calculated words: "Khalistaan Mangan Vaaleyo, Khalsey Bano!" 'nuff said! Bhai Saheb Jee, the respect of Baani: He had a hernia problem and had it operated on. It turned out to be a major procedure. He came from the hospital to stay at my parents place. He was in a pretty bad shape, medically speaking. We assisted him upstairs to a comfortable room. In the evening, we had scheduled a kirtan program. Everyone asked him not to come downstairs. He did not listen. He walked down on his own, bowed to saadh sangat and sat up right to listen to GurBaani Keertan. During that stay, his routine did not change from whenever he had stayed with us when in good health. Amrit Veylaa Naam Daan Ishnaan continued. Bhai Saheb Jee, the giver: I once noticed a lovely kirpaan on his person. I have always known not to compliment anything on Bhai Saheb Jee's person because he will give it to you. I don't know how it slipped off, but it was a very lovely little kirpan. Immediately, he gave it to me. Later he did say that it was a special gift to him from "santaa to(n)." I can only imagine who the original donor was. He asked me to not keep it as a keepsake, but to wear it. I am not worthy. Over the many years, I have received many things external and internal from Bhai Saheb Jee that will stay with me until this body survives. Bhai Saheb Jee, the silent one: I went to pick him up at the airport and on the way home I asked him the meanings of a line from GurBaani. He said, do you have a tape player in this car? I said no (it was long time ago, okay!). He said he will buy me one (he still owes me that one LOL!!!). But nothing else was said. I looked at him. He closed his eyes and just bowed his head. I had hung around him enough to not say a peep. Evening came and kirtan was started. I always had the honour of tabley di sevaa. All the questions were answered that evening. That day I learned, that it is GurBaani that has all the answers. Bhai Saheb Jee, the little things: Once a phone call arrived, Bhai Saheb Jee knew who it was. He picked up the phone and let out a high-pitched gurrrrrrrrr. If there was any reminence of five dushts in that room, they were now gone! It was Bhai Saheb Jee's Naam Khandaa he had stirred in the virtual company of another Naamee! Another phone call - Bhai Saheb Jee answered himself. He opened by saying, "mai tuhaadey pair chatdaa(n)." And he proceeded to pass kisses across the phone line... By Jagjit Singh
  6. This is what Parkash Chand thinks of Satkar jog Prof Bhullar Ji: Listen to Bibi Ji's brilliant thoughts and message of ekta from 13:25: We need to keep in mind the false language being used by some channels. This is not our 'mang' this is our Haq!!
  7. 54th Day of Hunger Strike: SGPC and HSGMC Presidents Meet Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa By Sikh24 Editors / In India, WORLD / January 7, 2015 Jhinda and Makkar with Bhai Khalsa AMBALA, Haryana (January 7, 2015)—Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda today arrived at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib Patshahi 10th to meet Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who has been sitting on a hunger strike since Nov 14 for the permanent release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in various jails of India despite having completed their life sentences. 8. We have full respect for All Takhat Sahib but not Jathedars who have sold their souls for short term gains and are proven to be spineless! These lines are apt for the Akauti Jathedars, puppets of Panjab Sarkar. ਬਚਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਖਿਸਕਿ ਜਾਇ ਬੋਲੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਚਾ ॥ He gives his word, but then backs out. All that he says is false. ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਥੋਥਾ ਕੂੜਿਆਰੁ ਕੂੜੀ ਸਭ ਖਚਾ ॥ The false person is hollow within; he is totally engrossed in falsehood. ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚਾ ॥ He tries to take vengeance upon the Lord, who bears no vengeance; such a person is trapped by falsehood and greed. ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਚਾ ॥ The True King, the Primal Lord God, kills him when He sees what he has done. ਜਮਦੂਤੀ ਹੈ ਹੇਰਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਚਾ ॥ The Messenger of Death sees him, and he rots away in pain. ਹੋਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ॥੧੫॥ Even-handed justice is administered, O Nanak, in the Court of the True Lord. ||15||
  9. Just like the first Singh says, our enemies and nefarious agencies have got us into bhambal bhoose to focus on topics that were not issues and now have gained momentum again. Lets not waste our energies on this subject as the final faisla cannot be agreed on the forum here. Kudos to the largest Gurdwara in Australia for supporting Bhai Sahib and for not allowing people who oppose him to have times on their stages now or in the future!
  10. Bhai Khalsa Gives a Call for Sikhs to Demonstrate with Black Flags on Jan 7 By Sikh24 Editors / In India, WORLD / January 6, 2015 Sangat with Bhai Khalsa AMBALA, Haryana (January 6, 2015)—For the permanent release of Sikh political prisoners, the hunger strike of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has entered its 53rd day and the health condition of Bhai Khalsa remains very critical. In spite of that, the government has given no indication so far of taking a step towards considering the demands of Bhai Khalsa. However, in view of his critical health condition, the health department and police administration are vigilant. The administration has deployed a health worker and ambulance permanently at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib where the hunger strike is being observed. Bhai Khalsa’s press secretary Bhai Gurpreet Singh Guri said though the health of Bhai Khalsa is in an alarming state, he is firm on his stand. He has given a call to people to hold a peaceful demonstration with black flags in order to energize the struggle and submit memorandums to the nearest concerned officers on Jan 7, demanding release of Sikh political prsisoners languishing in various jails of India despite having completed their terms.
  11. Singho, Agreed the calendar issue is important to resolve but whatever is decided requires the backing of the 'whole' Panth and not just the ones who came to celebrate the New Year or certain individuals. We've survived since 1469 so I'm sure it can wait. Immediately however, our current aim started by Bhai Sahib should take precedence. Write to MPs in your respective countries and to the Sikh Organisations who are sitting idle and ask them to apply pressure to Punjab sarkar.
  12. City Sikhs begin relay hunger strike in fight for prisoners' release By Jyoti Shelar, Mumbai Mirror | Jan 5, 2015, 08.13 AM IST Mumbai's Sikh community has started a relay fast in support of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, an activist who has been on an infinite hunger strike since November 14 demanding the release of seven Sikh prisoners convicted on various charges and who are languishing in prisons since the 1990s. With Khalsa, 48, set to stop taking even water today, the 3,50,000-strong Sikh community in Mumbai started their relay fast in his support. On Sunday evening, sixty people ended a 30-hour long fast, with another group gearing up to resume the relay strike in the morning. The hunger strike began at 4 pm on Saturday following a rally of 200 people from Vikhroli to the Dasmesh Darbar in GTB Nagar, Mumbai's largest and most important gurudwara. Khalsa is fighting for seven Sikhs who were convicted in 1995 for their actions during the separatist movement and have spent more than 20 years in jail. His supporters cite examples of convicts from other communities whose sentences have been commuted after 14 years and also the fact that normalcy has returned to the state. Three convicts for whom Khalsa is fighting for were sentenced to life in prison in connection with the assassination of the then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh. The seven are now in various prisons in Punjab, Karnataka and UP. "We want justice for the prisoners and peace for the community," said Mohindarjit Singh, 83, a retired naval officer, who was the oldest in the first fasting group. "We are a community that has been at the forefront when it comes to fighting for the country." The first group included 15 women and two children - a 9-yearold and a 10-year-old. Senior advocate and human rights activist Harvinder Singh Phoolka -who has been at the forefront of the fight for justice for the 1984 riot victims -said the government should consider these cases. "According to law, after 14 years, every life convict should be considered for remission of sentence. And after 20 years, the law totally allows the granting of remission," said Phoolka. Though the current protests are about the seven convicts, Kulwant Singh, a member of United Sikhs for Humanity, said 106 Sikhs are languishing in various Indian jails at present. The community in Mumbai is now trying to galvanise more support for Khalsa's struggle. "So many Sikh prisoners are languishing in jails and many have not even got fair trials. It is simply unfair," said Kulwant Singh. The community has planned a massive protest at Azad Maidan on January 7, where they plan to turn up with black bands around their mouths. Announcements have been made at all city gurdwaras and pamphlets have been distributed to seek support. "We want to get as many people as possible to continue with the hunger strike till our demand is fulfilled," said Kulwant. By Sunday, Khalsa, who entered his 52nd day of hunger strike, had lost more than 20 kilograms. Doctors have expressed fears for his life. But the farmeractivist refused to get hospitalised even as his health deteriorated considerably over the last two days. While Khalsa was not in the position to talk due to weakness, his 25-year-old son Jujhar Singh told Mirror that his fight will continue till the government agrees to release the prisoners.
  13. Mejinderpal Kaur should take note of this. Singers, politicians and Sikh religious leaders from Punjab and Haryana are making a beeline to Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib even amidst bone-chilling wind to meet Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, a former militant, now into the 52nd day of his indefinite fast, demanding the release of Sikh prisoners across the country who have completed their sentences, but continue to languish in jails. Even as the VIPs continue to stream in, the man himself is angry at the Punjab government, the Akal Takht jathedar and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The recent SGPC statement that there are 96 prisoners who have completed their terms, but continue to be imprisoned in Punjab’s jails itself has only provided fresh ammunition to Gurbaksh. “Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh are misleading the public. The CM says that he has written letters to other state governments, but he must clarify what he has done for the release of Sikh prisoners in Punjab. Over the past year, the state government has not even filed its reply to a writ petition seeking the release of prisoners. Is the CM really serious on the issue?,” questioned Khalsa, who has lost nearly 20 kg since November last year, when he started his fast and has been surviving only on water. “Instead of writing letters to others, Badal should ask officials to at least submit a written reply in court, stating that Punjab has no problem in releasing prisoners,” he said. “The CM must visit the PM over the issue,” he adds. Attacking Akal Takht jatehdar Giani Gurbachan Singh, he claimed, “Last time, I ended my hunger strike on his assurance, but the jatehdar failed to keep his word. Now, he should issue a Hukamnana (edict) to the CM and the deputy CM to release the prisoners,” he says. On whether he was aware that a Supreme Court ruling stopping the release of the accused in PM Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination could be a legal hitch, he said, “The least the Badals can do is to give an undertaking in court that Punjab wants to release these prisoners. Only then does writing to other CMs hold credibility.” Khalsa has already asked his supporters to hold peaceful protest marches on January 7 and submit a memorandum to district authorities for release of seven Sikh prisoners. Meanwhile, politicians like AAP MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, noted Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka, religious leader Sant Baljit Singh Daduwal and others visited Singh on Sunday. http://www.hindustantimes.com/punjab/chandigarh/gurbaksh-sharpens-attack-on-state-govt-akal-takht/article1-1303354.aspx
  14. Badal Misleading People in the Case of the Release of Bhai Lal Singh AkalgarhBY SIKH24 EDITORS / IN PUNJAB, WORLD / JANUARY 5, 2015 LUDHIANA, Punjab (January 5, 2015)—The claim of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal that he has written to the governor of Gujrat for release of Bhai Lal Singh is highly misleading. The Governor of Gujarat in a letter written to senior Journalist Kuldip Nayar and senior advocate HS Phoolka has informed that the matter pertains to the administrative jurisdiction of Punjab Government and the Gujarat governor cannot interfere in the matters of Punjab Government. Bhai Lal Singh Akalgarh is imprisoned in Nabha Jail since 24 years. Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is observing hunger strike for the permanent release of Sikh political prisoners including Bhai Lal Singh who have completed their terms. The High Court has 3 times recommended the Govt. to consider his case for release but unfortunately he has not been released. Gujarat Govt. is throwing ball into the Court of Punjab Govt. and Punjab Govt. throw back in the Court of Gujarat govt. No one has taken a decision. In its judgment dated 23rd August 2012, Punjab & Haryana High Court stated that there is no allegation against Bhai Lal Singh of committing any murder or any other act and therefore recommended the govt. to consider the case of his release. A representation sent by Kuldip Nayar, HS Phoolka, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves and N.D. Pancholi secretary, Citizens for Democracy to Governor of Gujarat to release Bhai Lal Singh. A scanned copy is published below. In response to this representation, a reply was received from the office of the governor of Gujarat that the matter pertains to the jurisdiction of Punjab Govt. which means that it is Punjab Govt. which can take the decision to release Bhai Lal Singh. While the Gujarat governor has taken a categorical decision that the Punjab Govt. is competent to deal with this matter, the Punjab Govt. has not taken any decision till today. Meanwhile, Parkash Badal is misleading the people by not bringing the complete facts to the public.
  15. Please listen up to 34 minutes. The delay tactics and pathetic excuses used by the Jathedars are frankly shameful. They talk big but have nothing to show for it and that after a year of doing zilch.
  16. I've been unable to get through today. I'm no expert in Law but from what she says in her video is that the Singh's will have to apply for 'early' release in the High Court before the cases can be heard. This seems illogical as they have served their sentences already and this is not what's being requested. Bhai Sahib recently said cases that have been to the high court are then passed to the supreme court for a decision and another wait of 6 months plus ensues, if this happens obviously they wont survive! Additionally, they have taken advice from Lawyers in Punjab so their stance that the power to have the Singhs released asap rests in the hands of Badal, the jail authorities have agreed to release the Singh's already. Once he agrees pressure can be applied to Central government. Writing to Modi as she suggests, a key figure of Gujarat riots and a known fascist won't prove fruitful. My concern now is that it is looking very likely Bhai Sahib will become shaheed and violence might follow giving the corrupt snakes more reason to call us Atvadhi and the excuse to imprison or murder more Sikhs.
  17. Jas Singh Ji, I find it hard to believe that the the remaining 5 Singh's would not have applied for early release. I will try and contact the Singh's with Bhai Sahib today to find out if this is the case. Did she provide the names?
  18. When Rajiv arm-twisted Thatcher to curb UK Sikhs CHANDIGARH: The Rajiv Gandhi government had in 1984 threatened the British government headed by Margaret Thatcher with trade sanctions if Sikh protests and other activities were not curbed in the UK immediately after Indira Gandhi's assassination. And Thatcher even obliged, if declassified documents of the British government are anything to go by. The declassified records of the UK cabinet meetings in 1984, uploaded on www.discoversikhism.com, show that the UK government was only too willing to bend as "export contracts worth £5 billion could be at stake". Moreover, the UK cabinet closely scrutinized the movement of Dr Jagjit Singh Chauhan, who had established the Khalistan National Council and actively sought ways to prosecute him for giving inflammatory interviews. Thatcher told her cabinet, "The implication (of such statements) for the Northern Ireland should also be borne in mind. The Government's view on such broadcast should be brought to the attention of the chairman of the BBC, Stuart Young." The declassified papers also show that banning a Sikh march in central London at that time was also a proactive decision of the UK government. While this was widely reported, the direct involvement of the top brass of the country in these decisions was not known so far. This is the second time that a storm has been generated by the release of Operation Bluestar related papers. The January 2014 cache had included files that suggested that the Indira Gandhi government had sought, and the Thatcher government had extended, British advice on removing Sikh extremists from the Golden Temple in 1984. The present UK PM David Cameron had at that time promised to release papers and information relating to 1984. However, four files on India have been withheld: three from the prime minister's office (PMO) are listed as 'temporarily retained', and one from the cabinet office described as 'retained under section 3(4) of the Public Records Act, 1958'. Meanwhile, the Sikh Council UK has expressed concern over media reports of comments made by Margaret Thatcher. Secretary general of the Sikh Council UK, Gurmel Singh said, "From these comments and documents previously disclosed we begin to understand the prevailing mood of the time. It appears this was one in which trade and bilateral relations took priority and this in turn probably led to a situation in which Sikhs in the UK were viewed with suspicion and even as some sort of threat to the UK by the Government of the time." He added, "This would go a long way to explain how the Cabinet came to discuss withdrawing official support for a Sikh procession and could be the real reason why India was provided assistance prior to the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib. We have been told that the Thatcher Government of 1984 was neutral in the whole process but this clearly calls that into question." source Times of India
