  2. 'Kumi' - you can use my post. No problems
  3. Brushing your teeth and eating food can also be chourse. Without food we cannot live and would die. Without brushing our teeth our mouth would stink and we would feel dirty. Similarly Nitnem can be chour as well something which purifies the mind and elevates the soul. The more carefully you read, understand and digest Gurbaani the "more" beneficial it is. Just like the more carefully and slowly you chew your food - the more easier it is to digest and more tasty the food tastes. <_<
  4. "Guru Jee I will do everything you say... I love you and will do anything you require of me.... BUT.... 1) I want to cut my hair (irrespective of the Laws of Nature and that Waheguru has blessed humans with hair as a tool, gift and spiritual/practical mechanism) 2) I want to pierce my nose and ears (irrespective that piercing one's ears and noses are signs of slavery, which in India dates back to Mughal era who used to thread wire/string through women's nose and ears in a huge line so that women don't escape............ So Guru Ji I know you got us out of slavery and me realise that I am a lion/brave princess but it looks cool [to look like a slave]) 3) I don't want to wear a Kirpan because it looks out of place (irrespective of that fact that the Kirpan is the manifestion of Akaal Purkh (Sri Bhagautee - the Divine Sword) - who destroys negativity/tyrants. I know that a Sikh is a king, queen, soveriegn, indepedent, and that he reprents Justice and protects the weak however do I have to carry a Kirpan (hand of mercy) which reminds me of my duty and beauty) 4) I don't want t wear the Turban - its not Western!!! (irrespective that its my spiritual crown that was put on my head by my Father Guru Gobind Singh Ji - it is my crown of soveriegnty, royalty, and indepedence... it protects my brain, keeps my hair clean and tidy and keeps me spiritually intuned) 5) I don't want to observe the 4 Kurehats/Prohibitions (irrespecitve of the fact that sex outside of marriage has exposed people to AIDS, HIV and STDs, irrespecitve that tabacco gives people cancer and affects future children's health, irrespective that dishonouring one's hair is defying nature, leading to vanity and denying oneself of a spirtiual & practical tool, & irrespective that the food I eat becomes part of my body and effects our mind and soul, i still wish to eat animals killed in a cruel way). WHO ARE YOU KIDDING?? Don’t hide your faith and idenity, share it with the world. Don’t be ashamed of who you truly are, walk with your head held high. Remember brothers and sisters your image is the manifestation of Guru Gobind Singh Singh Ji & Mata Sahib Kaur.
  5. Until our Gurdwaras are following by Sikhs who keep "Rehat" (Sikh discipline and code of conduct) until then Gurdwaras will be held back in doing Gurmat Parchaar. Taking Amrit and having been Amritdhari for 2 years as a criteria is good - because I know many Gurdwaras run by sharaabis and people who see nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. However, I worry about those who will take Amrit just so that they can be part of the Gurdwara Committee and not taking Amrit coz they love Guru Ji. "Rehat Pyaaree Mujh Kau, Sikh Pyaara Naahe" Gurdwaras should be run by Panj Pyaare who follow Rehat, are united under Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Guru Panth (Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib Ji). Sorry if i sound "extreme" but I think only Amritdharis should be allowed to vote in elections or perhaps scrap elections and Panj Pyaare should pick 5 Gursikhs to run Gurdwara considering their character, knowledge and enthuisiasm. In many cases Gurdwara Committees and Parties have distributed alcohol indirectly or directly to win votes of "Sikhs" and members of the Sangat who drink alcohol. According to the Party or Committee they are simply "winning votes" GURU RAAKA
  6. Paaji please read this: It is the basic underlying Rehat (Code of Conduct). (Panthic) Sikh Rehat Maryada (approved by Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib Ji) I advise you that you read and understand this. Its very simple and straightforward. To find out the proceedure and what happens in Amrit Sanchaar: Panthic Rehni >> Amrit Sanchaar All the best. Keep in Chardikala. Sikhi is all about Pyaar and love for Waheguroo and GUru Jee. Our Rehat is a means to an end - not an end in itself. Rehat is important and should be stuck to - we make mistakes unconsciously as we go along this journey and path, however we have Guru Ji to guide us and help us along. Bhul chuk maaf karnee
  7. Waheguru. As Gursikhs we believe, "SARBAT DA BHALA" Rather than wishing no-one gets "Mukti" we should pray that Justice is served and Badal is brought to justice AND PUNISHED (in this life!) and made an example of. (and i don't mean "washing dishes" when i mean punishment) May the Akaal Takhat Sahib be freed from Gulaami of influence and interference from the Government and non-Sikhs. May the Akaal Takhat Sahib issue Hukamnamas on Panthic levels with consultation with Panj Pyaare, and also Sarbat Khalsa, rather than issuing personal Hukamnamas to individuals. May the Akaal Takhat Jathedaar be knowledgable enough on Gurbaani and Rehat (and ALSO LIVE IT) so that anyone challenging Sikhi in books or verbally can be crushed with the sweet words of Gurbaani rather than remain silent and instead ban books/excommunicate people with "no grounds" given. These are my hopes and prayer.
  8. :T: WHO ARE SIKHS? By Manvir Singh Khalsa I am a Sikh! I am born and brought up this county. The turban and unshorn hair is part of the Sikh uniform. No-one believes me. They think I am part of the Taliban. They think I am an Arab. They think I am supporting terrorism. I keep telling everybody: “No! I am a Sikh! Sikhs are not part of the Taliban. Sikhs are not Muslims. Sikhs are not Arabs.” “Are you part of Islam” people ask? “Are you an offshoot of Hinduism” others say. “I have never heard of Sikhs” says another. Sikhs are a distinct people.Sikhs are a distinct nation. Sikhi is a distinct religion of peace, love and equality for whole humanity. Sikhs worship the One Supreme Truth, the One Ocean of Mercy, the One Creator Lord. Sikhs do not keep fasts, go to pilgrimages or pray to idols. Sikhs follow three principles of constantly remembering the Lord, living and working honestly, and sharing with others. Racists say “Get the rag off your head!” Ignorant people say: “Why do wear that hat?” Misguided Sikhs say, “Turban or no Turban what does it matter. Sikhs should move with the times and learn to integrate with society.” “I think you are mistaken”, I say. “My turban is not a hat. My turban is not a mere piece of cloth. My turban is a gift which I cannot discard.” I explain, “My turban is a crown blessed upon my head by my Father, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.” “My turban is a crown of grace, dignity and honour.” “My turban is a crown which protects my head, keeps my hair tidy and is the image of my Father.” “It’s backward to keep your hair!” says one person. “What is the point of cutting your nails and keeping your hair” says the cunning person. “There is no significance in today’s world of unshorn hair,” says the Sikh who has been led astray. Defending my identity and religion I say: “You are mistaken dear friend”. “My hair is not useless. My hair is a gift, a tool, and a technology bestowed upon by body by the Creator Lord. Each and every hair on my body has a practical and spiritual function. Each and every hair on my body is like electric wires which vibrate and pick up spiritual energy. Each and every hair on my body vibrates the energy, the power and spiritual force of meditating on the Lord. The hair on top of my head protects my skull and brain. The hair above my eyes prevents sweat and water going into my eyes. The hair on my body insulates my body, keeping me warm in the cold, and cool in the heat. The hair under my armpits prevents friction and irritation when moving my arms. My nails are dead material, which are cut to be hygienic, or they would snap off by themselves gradually. My nails are cut to be clean and tidy, and my hair is combed twice daily to remove dead hair to be tidy. My nails are not part of the Sikh uniform. “I see! That is amazing” says one person. “Fair enough, I am sorry” says the cunning person. “We have beautiful religion, a great gift given to us and we are so lucky to be blessed with such a technology and honour” says the Sikh who was led astray. Don’t hide your faith and idenity, share it with the world. Don’t be ashamed of who you truly are, walk with your head held high. Remember brothers and sisters your image is the manifestation of Guru Gobind Singh Singh Ji & Mata Sahib Kaur. Be inspired and inspire others.
  9. Baba Vajeer Singh Ji used to come on Sukh Sagar Radio - apparently he doesnt do the show anymore. very inspirational video! gives confidence and support to those who wish to follow the path of Guru Ji.

  13. A thought provoking presentation and discussion on how we can connect to Waheguru according to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji led by German born Gursikh, Bhai Khuswant Singh. View map: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/maps/large_guys.html www.sikhsoc.co.uk sikh.soc@kcl.ac.uk
  14. Fantastic replies. From my personal experience - when people stop me for wearing Kirpan or ask about it: "This part of the 5K's Sikh Uniform, which exemplifies the Sikh character of being a Saint Warrior. The Kirpan is not an offensive weapon, dagger or knife. The word Kirpan = Kirpaa and aan.. literally meaning HANDY OF MERCY. It represents: 1) Truth 2) justice 3) freedom 4) righteousness and 5) protection. Look at lady justice (who represent Law, order, justicw and freedom). She holds a weighing scale = good and bad will be judged and weighed Blind fold = justice is blind and indiscriminate Sword in hand = represents Justice, freedom and soveriegnty. A Kirpan is very special, worn by Sikhs who take an oath to serve humanity and protect justice. The British Law acknowledges this and by law we are allowed to wear kirpaan"

  16. Date: Fri, 11 Mar 2005 21:29:44 -0800 (PST) From: Gulneet Kaur Subject: a short story : God Is Everywhere "GOD I SEE YOU EVERYWHERE” Here’s a famous story on how God is everywhere, always ready to help, and always sending people or events that will help you. THE BIG FLOOD There was a man named Joe whose farm was located on the banks of a flood-swollen river. There came a big flood, and the water around Joe's house was rising steadily. Joe was standing on the porch, watching water rising all around him, when a man in a boat came along. and called to Joe, "Get in the boat and I'll get you out of here." Joe replied. "No thanks. God will save me." Joe went into the house, and the water was starting to pour in. So, he went up to the second floor. As he looked out, another man in a boat came along, and he called to Joe, "Get in the boat and I'll get you out of here." Again, Joe replied, "No thanks. God will save me." The water kept rising. So, Joe got out onto the roof. A helicopter flew over, and the pilot called down to Joe, "I'll drop you a rope. Grab onto it, and I'll get you out of here." Again Joe replied, "No thanks. God will save me." The water rose and rose, and soon nearly covered the whole house. Joe fell in, and drowned. When he arrived in Heaven, he saw God, and asked Him, "Why didn't you save me from that terrible flood? Did I not show you my faith?" With a loving tone God replied, "What more would you have me do? I sent two boats and a helicopter!" He would have “recognized” that God is “everywhere” and “inside” everyone and that God was working through these fine people to save him. Thanks & Have a nice day !!
  17. True Paaji about Nicene Creed - the Biblical language problems stemmed from Greek re-interpretation of the Chrisitanity and Christian theologians aiming to present Christianity in Greek terms because everyone thought the Greeks were advanced and intellectual etc. Nicene Creed solidified the concepts such as "Son of God" and later re-confirmed by the Chalcaedon Council
  18. Nidhi penji tell your friend: "A good Christian, is a good Sikh" "A good Hindu, is a good Sikh" "A good Muslim, is a good Sikh" "Jin Prem Kiyo Tin Hee Prabh" -[Only] Through love for Waheguru, we obtain Him (Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Swaarag Swaiye)
  19. Sikhi respects everyone's right of way and how they choose to walk on the path of love to God. May Waheguru bless everyone. However the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji are universal and apply to everyone irrespective of Sikh or not. You can still be a Hindu, Christian or Muslim and follow Guru Granth Sahib Ji's teachings. "Too Saanjha Saahib, Baap Hamaara" Sewa - Simran - Sangat. Nothing wrong with different religions - however we must take in account that man corrupts religious thought and people have wavered from true path to Waheguru. (Gurbaani says it all). I am studying BA Religious Studies. Things I would like to share, which I have learnt: 1/ Bible not written by Jesus, rather his followers wrote Bible about 100 years after Jesus was crucified. 2/ Church and present Christian religion is set up by Early Church Fathers in 4th century CE 3/ Koran was "ORALLY" transmitted to the Prophet Muhammad. The Qur'an was "WRITTEN" and recorded later after the Prophet's death during the time of the First and Second Caliphs. 4/ There was a Qur'an burning during the reign of the third Caliph. There were different versions and variations of the Qur'an recorded by followers of Muhammad. The Third Caliph selected what he thought was appropriate and burnt the rest - result = the present Qur'an. 5/ "The Son of God" in Christianity is a translation of "Messiah" from Herbrew to Greek. The closest concept of "Messiah" in Greek vocabularly and thought was "Son of god" (i.e. like Hercules is son of Zeus etc), this was the nearest concept which gave same value of Messiah... later this was accepted as literal Son of God by Church Fathers.
