  1. It is imperative now more than ever that we learn our MAH BOLI namely Punjabi and Gurmukhi Lipi our Gurus created Punjabi and Gurmuki Lipi for us to relate to Vaheguroo. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj exists in Gurmukhi for a reason!! The poetic beauty the deep meaning the absolutely astounding philosophy can be lost and distorted with translation. Bibi Ji learn Punjabi, read and understand Gurbani make the effort!! Then teach others, lets preserve our heritage and history for ourselves and future generations. Translations are ok but should only serve as a guide not as a substitute.
  2. really? what part was particularly good in your opinion for people who are new to Sikhi?
  3. yes, and apparently its a great loss to the world!! "Enjoying his pleasures, one is reduced to a pile of ashes, and the soul passes away He may be great, but when he dies, the chain is thrown around his neck, and he is led away. There, his good and bad deeds are added up; sitting there, his account is read. He is whipped, but finds no place of rest, and no one hears his cries of pain. The blind man has wasted his life away. " Asa Ki Vaar vaheguroo vaheguroo vaheguroo vaheguroo vaheguroo only the power of naam can save us, only naam is valuable, everything else is an illusion. (easy to say, hard to understand and follow)
  4. Im so disappointed in the attitudes displayed by members on this site!! I made a post which i have repeated below about the beadbi that is taking place in relation to our dastaar and the post only received 115 views, with no comments or action yet when some1 made a post about micheal jackson the post received over 3500 views!! and the discussion is spread over 5 pages!!! What is happening to us?!?! do we really care about more about mj than our Sikhi?!?! There are so many treats facing us many of them we don't even realise, so many undesirable elements, so much distortion, not enough love and courage to stand up to these cowards. And now I hear KPS Gill have been appointed as an advisor to Interpol!!!! My original post: Vaheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Ji Ki Fatheh I am writing this to inform you, and for you to inform others about the comments and statements made about our beloved Dastar by a person claim to be a Sikh who is in a responsible position of an organisation made in name of Sikhs. Namely the British Sikh Police Association. Below are just few news items from different news organisations web based news sources with their addresses and contents for your convenience. http://www.sunriseradio.com/news/?id=1941 British Sikh police association launched 29 April 2009 The British Sikh Police Association launches today: it is the first ever national police organisation devoted to the faith. It will work to increase representation, retention and promotion of Sikh officers, but critics question the need when there is already a national black police association. They fear it will cause further division within the force at a time when British policing is already under attack. However, BSPA chair Kashmira Singh Mann says Sikhs need to be heard. But can other organisations fulfil concerned Sikhs concerns http://www.kismatradio.com/news/?id=2135 http://www.sunriseradio.com/news/?id=2135 Bulletproof turban declared a farce 14 May 2009 Plans for a bulletproof turban are a "farce", according to the Metropolitan Police Sikh Association (MPSA). They have been reacting to claims by the newly-launched British Sikh Police Association (BPSA) suggesting scientists are not far from developing a Kevlar-like fireproof turban. Last week, the BSPA claimed Sikh officers were being sidelined for promotion because they could not join the more dangerous units like firearms. However, the MPSA's Palbinder Singh says that is simply not true, as many can and do wear protective gear over the article of faith, and accuses the new association of trying to get publicity. http://www.sunrisetv.tv/news/?id=2154 Dispute Between BSPA & MSPA 15 May 2009 The head of the British Sikh Police Association says Sikh officers should not have to compromise their faith by wearing a smaller turban. Kashmira Singh Mann was responding to the criticisms made by Palbinder Singh of the Metropolitan Sikh Police Association, who says his campaign for a bulletproof turban is ridiculous. Yesterday, Palbinder told Sunrise News he wears a smaller turban which fits under a helmet, which is adequate for Sikh officers. However, Mr Singh Mann says it is wrong to expect everyone to be happy with his solution, and believes some officers' concerns have been neglected. www.asiantimesonline.co.uk/news.html?groupId=7...5188 Met Sikhs fire turban bullet 27-05-2009 The bitter row between two Sikh groups over bullet-proof turbans for police officers has led to fears of a setback in the community’s fight for equality. The Metropolitan Police Sikh Association (MPSA) has dismissed the idea of a turban made of special flame-retardant ballistic material as “preposterous,” claiming it is an unnecessary waste of public money. But the British Sikh Police Association (BSPA), which claims to represent hundreds of Sikhs who serve in the police, want the Home Office to develop the special protective headgear to ensure they are not excluded from fire-arms training. The rift worries community leaders, who feel the row may backfire on serving Sikh officers. Palbinder Singh, chair of the MPSA, told Eastern Eye: “We are unsure whom the BSPA represent, but they do not have a mandate for representing the Sikh community, or Sikhs within the MPSA. “Sikhism is a pragmatic, sensible, rational and progressive faith. There is nothing preventing turbaned Sikh officers from participating in public order training or joining firearm teams, as they have been doing so for the last 30 years.” The group points to cricketer Monty Panesar as an example of how protective helmets can be worn over a small turban or patka. It also says helmets used by Indian Sikh rulers between 1760 and 1850 are effective and don’t offend the faith. (my personal comments: if we as Sikhs have let people have personal freedom and have not made comments on their inappropriate practices in their personal life which are not compatible with life as Sikhs, this should not be an excuse or reference material for other people to justify anti Sikh practices) “A small turban can be worn under NATO-style helmets. Even our ancestors had seen the wisdom in it. There is no turban that can be designed to withstand fire or offer a screen against missiles. We hope that politically correct policy-makers do not pander to this dangerous idea,” Singh added. The BSPA, which is currently in consultation with the National Police Improvement Agency and Home Office, termed the MPSA’s opposition as “obstructive and negative”. Sgt Kashmira Singh Mann, BSPA chair, said: “Some turban-wearing Sikh officers have been participating in public order policing and firearms duty at the lower level by taking off their turban or wearing a small turban before wearing the NATO and Kevlar helmet. They have had to compromise their religious duty to do so". “We have consulted with the Jathedar of the Akal Takht [head priest of the Golden Temple in Amritsar] and he supports our search for a universally acceptable solution to the problem. As the national voice for Sikh police officers and staff, it is incumbent on us to raise the issue.” The Network of Sikh Organisations has characterised the row a “difference of opinion” that will be resolved amicably in favour of the approximately 80 turbaned Sikh officers in the UK, of which over 26 are believed to be in the Met. Jaspal Singh, spokesperson for Sikh Federation UK, said: “The turban represents the Sikhs’ crown and to have to cover it up goes against the very principle. We support research into finding a solution.” But Harmander Singh fears the issue could end up providing an excuse to some police services to discriminate against Sikh officers. “If Sikhs can ride motorcycles and go on building sites without helmets, there is no reason why it should be an issue within the police force. There are various levels to firearms and riot training and in the majority of cases, the issue of full body armour does not even arise. This... should not become an excuse to not offer Sikhs the same level of promotion opportunities." he said. I hope you have considered these news items and realise the threat that this division between the two police Sikh organisations (BSPA & MSPA) pose to the perception of Sikhs in the UK, Sikhs have fought long and hard to preserve the right to wear a Dastar in the UK and as a result UK law reflects the unique ability of Sikhs to where their Dastars. But the most disturbing aspect of these events is the fact that Palbinder Singh has been chosen to give a talk on Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur's legacy on 27th June in Bristol. It can be seen quite clearly that it would be very inappropriate for a person of these views: Yesterday, Palbinder told Sunrise News he wears a smaller turban which fits under a helmet, which is adequate for Sikh officers. to say anything let alone give a talk on the legacy of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur, if anything it would be an insult to the legacy of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur. More information for this event the web address is http://www.thesikhway.com/bandasinghbahadurproject.html Organisation arranging it web address is: http://www.thesikhway.com/
  5. Sarcastic?? i think what your doing is taking a very serious issue and turning it into a joke! lets not get all Gestapo on the whole Sikh community, but rather create awareness about very real and very important issues that affect our Panth and our Sikhi on a personal level. the ancient Chinese had a saying: "to learn something good 1000 days are not enough but to learn something bad an hour is too much" kalug is the hour. Sikhi is the light, Sikhs themselves have burnt to keep this light aflame. I am willing and prepared to sacrifice 1000 lifetimes for my beloved Sikhi, but im not prepared or willing to have the sacrifices of my brothers and sisters wasted and gambled away some cowardly, corrupt, and inept leaders/politicians/organisations. the revolution is coming.........
  6. im sorry mala but thats such a negative attitude!! why are so many people on this forum like that? If there is a problem we should confront it and sort it out not ignore it or turn our backs on the situation what kind of Khalsa would we be if we abandoned the challenges that face us!! if someone or something attacks our faith, our way of life we have to stand up fight back and then analyse the situation so we can take some preventative measures against further intrusions/corruptions. also we SHOULD challenge all Sikh institutions to be totally transparent and not rest until they are!!
  7. I totally agree with AK47 transparency is the key. But I think the most important aspect of this is responsibility, we already have many organisations acting to undermine Sikhi, the worst aspect of this is that these organisations are posing as Sikh institutions. The undermining of Sikhi is overt and covert, open and secret. It could be a continuous attack on a small point or a onetime hit on a big level. Example of continuous small attacks: names on the bottom of Sikh Channel with cast distinctions (such an such Gill, Grewall ect) this makes it seem like its ok to believe in these things when it clearly is not. Example of big attack: Not acknowledging Shaheeds, distorting our history. Every Sikh institution, organisation and person has a responsibility to Sikhi and its preservation. We must not misinform, distort or confuse we have a duty to the Panth. Sikh channel have such an amazing opportunity to unite the Panth and the various Sikh Gurdwaras in the UK, Europe and even the world!! Sikh channel needs to concentrate on unifying the message, history and philosophy of Sikhi in a way that is acceptable to all Sikhs, we don’t really have a lot of unity at the moment maybe Sikh channel can change this. (also instead of trying to do everything in English it is important that we push the importance of Punjabi!!! Its ok that we give translations and speeches in English but we have to underline the importance of our MAH BOLI) http://www.sikhstudentsfederation.com/video/damdama-sahib.html

  10. its no laughing matter!! The organisation of this group is subtle yet surprisingly coherent. It is interesting to note the that all the banners and placards seem to be created by the same people, the use of language is very careful, I only saw the word Sikh once, it was on a banner that said something...something...control freak Sikhs (ironically out of the 8-10 Dastar Singhs there, one of them was standing next to this banner) it is quite clear from the sentiments of the speakers that they consider themselves not to be Sikhs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj but rather Ravidassass followers of Bhagat Ravidass and other ''living Gurus''. They never used the word Kirpan but they called for: ''a ban on all killing weapons'' and had a picture of a Kirpan (with a Khanda on the scabbard), a sub machine gun, and some kitchen knives. I am sure the organisers are intelligent enough to notice: 1) the sale, purchase and storing of firearms in the UK is very tightly regulated, currently there are only 3 ways to obtain firearms in the UK - if you are a farmer or licensed pest control, a sports shooter (member of gun club) or serious collector (very restricted). Even then legal owners are limited exclusively to non automatic shot guns, pistols and single shot rifles. 2) The Kirpan is allowed to be worn in the UK under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (section 139) and Offensive Weapons Act 1996 (section 3 and 4) allow for a Sikh to carry a Kirpan for religious reasons (other reasons allowed by the Act are cultural or work related reasons). The Criminal Justice Act 1988 safeguards the rights of Sikhs to carry the Kirpan as it is deemed a necessary part of their religion. 3) It is illegal in the UK to sell knives to under 18's, however no amount of legislation can ban the sale of kitchen knives. 4) If someone really wanted to kill you, they can do so with their hands or with any heavy/blunt/sharp object or push you off a roof hit you with a car, in fact the choices are only limited by our imagination. More over the organisers of this event knew that one day of protest is not likely to change anything. So what did they achieve??? !) showed (in the eyes of the press) just after hyde park 84 Remembrance March dis-unity among Sikhs, we are all very aware of how this whole charade has played out in the media from the killing of rama nand to the Ravidassass march it has been portrayed as a Sikh thing, when it is not. !) Showed the support they have of the bhaman government, they were allowed to hand in a petition at the Indian embassy, a place where Sikhs are not allowed (84 marches) !) Boosted support among their Ravidassass community, thus further separating themselves from Sikhi !) Further exposed themselves to the UK administration as a distinctly separate body (I think this was the first ever Ravidassass march, but not sure). All of this Ravidassass, Namdhari, Nirankari, Astosh, 3HO, Noormalia, baba/dera culture ect is all part of a bigger and deeper plot... the plan of the bhamans, no messing around, is to totally control the leadership of Sikhs either directly or via intermediates now that may seem farfetched but if we analyse the current situation both inside and outside of India it is quite evident that at the very least our higher echelons of leadership are being influenced by outside sources, namely the G.O.I. Inside India the main focus is on instilling and supporting leaders favourable to the bhaman elite, propaganda and subtle discrimination and propagation of practices that are anti Sikh. That’s why Punjab has the highest number of drug users per capita the highest number of liquor stores, mobile sex testing vans that also provide subsidised abortions (killing baby girls). Then there is the continued and heavy use of harmful fertilizers that cause cancer and other health problems not to mention the fact that they damage the soil. Now if you combine this all together what do we have? A Punjab that is drugged and liquored up a higher ratio of boys to girls bad water and sanitation poisonous soil the dissemination of the Sikh way of life and teachings in a bhaman approved route. Outside India G.O.I intelligence agencies try to disrupt and influence Gurdwara elections, so that they can either have a favourable leader in place (think sohi in Southall, who for 14years didn’t even allow the Sangat to discuss Shaheeds let alone send a coach to the marches) or make us look bad by making us fight amongst ourselves. Then there’s the whole bollywood crap turning Singhs into jokes in all their movies - further propaganda. These are serious issues that unless directly addressed and confronted threaten to divide us. We have to as Sikhs have ZERO tolerance for any attack on our way of life, it is our duty. But that doesn’t necessarily mean killing or violence, ZERO tolerance is more about challenging and questioning being intellectually superior to these lost sheep it means correcting any distortion, misinformation or misrepresentation of the facts on the spot!! We are lucky that our forefathers and young soormeh cemented our reputation as great warriors, let us uphold that reputation with our words and deeds, and when the time comes for direct military action they know we won’t back down, we never have and never will. 11. Shame Sikhs getting terrorised in their own area.... West London Sikhs getting soft? thank you for your enlightening remarks, very constructive, I am glad to see you offering advice and support to your bothers and sisters, in this their time of need.
  12. All of the problems facing the Khalsa Panth stem from the inequities of our central leadership, we dont really have a central leadership do we?????? If we all went back to old school ways of reading and understanding Gurbani and learning and practising Shastar Vidya, the majority of our problems would be sorted. When the hooligans take to the streets so should the Khalsa Fauj, we are permitted by law in the uk to carry Kirpana, not just the baby little ones but full REAL Kirpans as commanded by Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Sikhs in the UK enjoy the protection of their faith under UK Law, various Statutes and Laws have been written specifically for the protection of the Sikh identity and way of life: (quotes from the 'First Global Sikh Civil Rights Report' undertaken by United Sikhs, url: http://www.unitedsikhs.org/rtt/sikhconf/Fi...ightsReport.pdf ) ''Under English law, Sikhs are not only recognized as belonging to a religion but also a race for the purpose of the Race Relations Act 1976. Sikhs have a number of specific rights and exemptions in relations to their articles of faith.'' ''Under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, the right to wear the Kirpan is protected under section 139 (5) and section 139A(4) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, which provide that it is a defence to carry a bladed article for religious reasons in public places including schools. However, there are a few places where Sikhs are currently not permitted to wear the Kirpan such as UK passport offices and public entertainment venues'' Why do you think the police never say anything to Singhs on Vasakhi or other marches when they have Kirpans in their hands?? because we are allowed to carry them!! It is part of our 'religion', or more correctly Kirpans form a part of our Lives as Sikhs, we cannot live without our 5 k's and as adherents of the Sikh way of life we are required and expected to fulfil our spiritual and moral obligations.
  13. this channel sounds like another attempt to further dilute the glorious history of the Khalsa Panth and Sikh way of life. If you are a BritAsia Tv channel then be a BritAsia Tv channel, if u were BritSikh channel then that would be different, BritSikh channel would an appropriate platform to discuss Sikhi and further propagate the message of Sikhi to a young audiance living in the uk. BritAsia TV (833) is full of crap!! just like Zee Punjabi (798) and Punjjabi TV (838) see for yourself, channel numbers in brackets, these channels are sellout channels and should be boycotted. These channels draw no distinction between the Pure Sikh way of life and the corrupted western influenced media mindwash of dance drink and lust, these channels should not be allowed to hold any programming on Sikhi, they are not an appropriate platform, they try to cheapen the Sikh way of life.
