Monday, 13 September 2010 HOSHIARPUR: In the backdrop of the Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) president meeting Jathedar Akal Takht and CM Parkash Singh Badal to seek Sikh support for raising Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, the Dal Khalsa Monday asked the Sikh leadership to remain aloof from Mandir-Masjid dispute. In a statement party head H S Dhami, general secretary Dr Manjinder Singh and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh criticized VHP for dragging Sikhs in their religious feud. The lobbying by VHP head Ashok Singhal with top Sikh leadership must be seen with suspicion, said they. Recently, threatening letters were dropped in the houses of valley Sikhs aiming to sow the seeds of discard between Sikhs and Muslims. And now VHP asking Sikh support for erecting the Mandir on the disputed land reflects the similar design, they alleges. Urging the Sikh leadership to tread cautiously, they said being minority community it' not in the interest of Sikhs to be seen doing any harm to another minority, which like them (Sikhs) has also faced the desecration of their religious places. Moreover, by maintaining an equal distance from Mandir-Masjid controversy, we would not only dispel all misconceptions and notions spread by RSS that Sikhs are part of Hindus but also re-establish that Sikhs are separate and independent people. We stand for warm and cordial relations with all be it Hindu, Muslim, Christian, they said. However, the Sikhs canât afford to side with demolishers of Babri Masjid, notwithstanding SAD alliance with the BJP. They took a serious note of remarks made by Canadian MP Ujjal Dosanjh in which he tried to malign the Sikh youth residing in Canada by accusing them of nurturing Khalistani ideology. The tone and tenor of the Ujjal Dosanjh was similar to that of Indiaâs MEA officials who during PM Dr Manmohan Singhâs visit to US and Canada publicly accused Canadian Sikhs of enhancing Khalistani activities. By his uncalled and unfounded remarks made on Indian soil, Mr Dosanjh has tried to appease Indian establishment to extract undue favours for him. Dal Khalsa leaders came down heavily on Punjab government for its maltreatment towards jobless ETT teachers. Everyday they were being beaten, humiliated and insulted by 'll-powerful' police giving an impression that Punjab is still a police state, where there was no place for democratic protests.

"What was the need to send these letters? If any organization has done this, they would have done it using their letterhead. We can say that this must be done by a central government or state government-paid organization," said Indumeet Singh, the Chairman of the United Sikh Front Kashmir. He said, “"We don't have any problem here, we are living here for the past 20 years in the midst of so much of militancy, and we never faced any such problems”. The Sikhs living in Valley said they are completely safe in the Valley. "If we have any problem, the Muslim brothers always came and helped us. Meanwhile, Amritsar based Sikh students Federation (SSF) has said that the recent “unnecessary harassment of the microscopic Sikh community by certain anti-Kashmiri elements has shaken the Sikhs. “We hope the majority community in Kashmir and genuine leadership of Kashmiri resistance movement should check such doubtful elements, who are trying to sabotage the justified ongoing struggle of people of Kashmir,” SSF said in a statement issued from Jammu. It said SSF supports the justified peaceful movement of people of Kashmir which is the result of betrayal of people of J&K by the Indian establishment for failing to honour its commitments made in 1947. “We feel that Sikh community should also not forget the similar promises made with them by the Govt. of India,” it said. In a separate appeal, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Kashmir has urged Muslims and Sikhs of Kashmir to exercise restraint and patience. “Our earnest appeal to all Muslims and Sikhs of J&K is to exercise patience and restraint in the interests of harmonious relations. We should be alert and alive to watch such people and defeat their nefarious designs”, General Secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal said. Wazir said that Islam preaches protection of other religions and minorities and added that the Sikh minority was safe in the Muslim majority Kashmir. He said that Sikhs of Kashmir will resist the ill-designs of all communal forces. “Some communal forces outside Kashmir are trying to fish in the troubled waters by issuing such statements which are a threat to the secular-character of our constitution. I warn them of strong resistance from progressive forces. I also warn all political parties of India not to issue such statements which may result into a bad taste among various communities,” he said. The Sikh leader also called upon the intelligentia and the progressive forces in Kashmir to come forward and expose all such elements, which were bent upon tarnishing the image of Islam and Kashmiriyat, by issuing threats to minority community.

ਆਤਮਕ ਬਲ ਇੰਨਾ ਉੱਚਾ, ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ 7-8 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਭੁਗਤਣ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਚੁਪ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਝਾਰੂ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਤੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਸਰੂਪ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਜੁੱਟ ਗਏ। ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਜਾਣ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਮੋਸ਼ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਥੇਬੰਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਜ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਵੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਜੁਝਾਰੂ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਮੱਧਮ ਹੋਣ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਤੇ ਹੈਰਾਨਕੁੰਨ ਠਰੰਮਾ, ਸਹਿਜ, ਧੀਰਜ ਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਲੈ ਆਂਦੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਡਿੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ। ਇਸ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ 'ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ' ਦਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਗ਼ਜ਼ੀਨ ਕੱਢਣ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਰੋਲ ਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਮੈਗ਼ਜ਼ੀਨ ਮਾਲੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਣਦਿਸਦੀਆਂ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਬੰਦ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ 'ਸਿੱਖ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ' ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਰੋਲ ਹੈ। ਖਾੜਕੂ ਸਿੱਖ ਉਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਜਾਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਦਾਸ ਖਲਾਅ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰਿਉਂ ਪੁਨਰ ਗਠਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਖਤ ਤੇ ਸਾਰਥਕ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਲਈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸੁਲਝੇ, ਚੇਤੰਨ, ਸੰਜੀਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਹਿਰਦ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਇਸ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਰੂਹ ਫੂਕੀ ਗਈ। ਇਹ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੌਰ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਜੁਝਾਰੂ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਨਾਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਉਤੇ ਜਥੇਬੰਦਕ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਹੌਂਸਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਿਆ India needs to be shamed not feted in the light of the atrocities it continues to commit on a daily basis."
