  1. Khalsa Aid has had a very constructive meeting this morning with Dr Jacques from RHASADE, our local partners. Dr Jacques has again reiterated the need to provide clean drinking water to the effected people of Darbonne and Guerin ( epicentre of the earthquake ), the total population effected in these towns is approx 15000. Khalsa Aid (UK ) team in Haiti has requested the newly formed Khalsa Aid ( USA ) to source the best available water filteration units and generators. Dr Jacques has also discussed the possibility of Khalsa Aid setting up a fully loaded mobile health clinic which will reach out to every village in and around these towns. We have agreed in principle to this most excellent idea, we are awaiting a full list of medicines and equipment required. i have personnaly witnessed the destruction and terrible conditions in make shift camps.I am deeply concerned at the lack of sanitation and medical treatment in these rural camps hence the preparation of a mobile clinic. The medicines will have to be purchased in Dominican Republic, Mandeep Singh Khalsa will accompany the doctor to Dominican Republic to pay for and transport the medicines into Haiti. 2. KHALSA AID PRESS RELEASE (28/01/2010) We have just had an update from the Khalsa Aid team in Haiti. The team have established excellent contacts with local organisations such as RHASADE who are based in Port au Prince and are affiliated with the World Food Programme (WFP - part of the UN), and have centres all over rural Haiti. The team have visited towns such as Labone and Guerin (based in Leogone) which are located much closer to the epicentre of the quake and thus have experienced huge devastation. Ravinder Singh (CEO Khalsa Aid) has said that in over 10 years of humanitarian work the scenes of destruction were of "the worst he had ever seen". Khalsa Aid is working in areas close to the epicentre of the earthquake. They were shocked at the fact that they are the first NGO (non governmental organisation) to reach these areas. These towns 30-40 kilometres west of Port au Prince have no clean water or food and are totally neglected by the large international organisations who are mainly working in the centre of Port au Prince. KHALSA AID RESPONSE: Khalsa Aid will be providing clean water to the thousands of survivors in these neglected areas. In the short term, Khalsa Aid is looking to provide safe drinking water through the use of tankers across the small villages and towns. Longer term, Khalsa Aid has determined that there is local knowledge of digging tube-wells to extract water from 90ft deep though many villagers have stated that the water is not clean enough and need a filtration system. This is similar to the work Khalsa Aid completed in Barisal, Bangladesh where water was delivered twice daily in which time natural water filtration systems were built. Volunteers in Haiti, the US and the UK have been working around the clock to expedite huge sea containers of dry food and other relief materials to the worst hit areas. The Khalsa Aid team in Haiti have also requested tools such as hammers, saws and nails etc to assist with longer term reconstruction of dwellings. The newly formed Khalsa Aid (USA) team will be arranging for the rapid delivery of materials. Khalsa Aid has always determined and assessed first hand the needs of the local population first and never rushed into a disaster zone - we do not follow the actions of other organisations but always identify the "forgotten" victims of any disaster especially in rural or hard to reach areas. We are hugely grateful to the Sangat worldwide for enabling us to provide aid and relief to those who have not been reached. The size of our response is solely dependent on the support of the Sangat. Please help us to expand our efforts. If you would like to donate for the project in Haiti or collect relief materials / supplies please contact us. We are also looking for fit healthy and big-hearted people out there who have a MINIMUM of 3 weeks available - please do get in touch with us. 3. Khalsa Aid would like to announce two Charity Kirtan Darbars organised by volunteers at the Guru Nanak Gurudwara (Bedford) and Shepherds Bush Gurudwara (Central Gurdwara London) this Saturday 23rd January, to raise funds and awareness for its Humanitarian projects in Punjab.
  4. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh Thanks for all your comments, Khalsa Aid was set up with Punjab in mind. We have worked for going on to 11 years internationally to establish a Cast Iron reputation within our community, so that when we launch programs in Punjab, the Sikhs in Punjab would be supported as they should be. Furthermore we are not backed financially by any Organisation/Jatha so that we could direct all operations in Punjab, we rely on individual sangat. Thus, we are in Haiti because a.) We have a responsibility as a Humanitarian Aid charity b.) Most importantly those who donate to us have urged us to go and help in Haiti. If someone gives £500 and says "please help those unfortunate people in Haiti" we have a moral duty to do so. It is important to note that in regards to doing both Haiti and Punjab, we are working in Punjab as we speak, as we have launched a program early last year sponsoring 60 Sikh children in the Goindwal District. This is a long term project and we send money monthly to keep it going. We need everyone's help to continue and expand our projects in Punjab, those who are passionate as we are about Punjab: Why not commit to a Monthly Direct Debit? (Approx £10 for one child) Make it Clear you wish this to go towards Punjab only and we will respect these wishes. We are going to Punjab in a month or two and will be expanding the projects, how much we can expand depends on you guys, Why not make a commitment which would enable us to work more in Punjab?
  5. "..This is a historic disaster," said UN spokesman Elisabeth Byrs, whose own organisation has lost 36 local staff in the earthquake. "We have never been confronted with such a disaster in the UN memory. It is like no other." .." Khalsa Aid is responding to this terrible disaster by providing as much assistance as possible, we have linked up with a London based Haitian organisation to make sure the relief materials reach the most needy. WE NEED YOUR HELP ! We need regional Relief Coordinators to liaise with Gurdwaras to organise collection of these essential items and fundraise. We will organise the transport of the collected items to London. We have an opportunity to inform the world that we care and the message of Sarbat Da Bhalla is for the whole of humanity. We need the following urgently to promote hygiene in the effected areas. We need buckets or similar size containers with lids from stores such as B & Q/Tesco/Homebase etc and fill them with new items such as: baby wipes or wet wipes, soap, (bars only ) washcloths, (facecloths ) toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs and brushes (Do not include shampoos or any materials that could leak in transit. ) flip flops, sleeping bags ( available in Tesco around £7 ?) tape ( all types ) and torches with batteries packed separately.. We also need NEW blankets so the Sangat can decide what they would like to donate. Khalsa Aid will also purchase specialist items ( water purification tablets etc ) and ship them direct to Haiti. PLEASE DONATE SO THAT WE CAN DELIVER MUCH NEEDED ITEMS TO RELIEVE THE SUFFERING OF THESE UNFORTUNATE PEOPLE ! 6. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh, The Khalsa Aid team feel great regret and remorse at the passing of this young Gursikh, but also pride by his actions. We also feel a responsibility to act to acknowledge his actions and remedy the effects on his family. We have received numerous calls from our donors request...ing us to do something for this brave Sardar’s family. We are also honoured to have been contacted by Gurughars across the country, nominating us as a trusted UK registered charity to conduct a collection on their behalf. Having met twice with President of the Barking Gurdwara, and also with Sukhwinder’s family in the UK, we can now announce that we have the blessings from the family and national Gurudwaras. We can now openly appeal for donations to contribute towards a fund for his immediate family (wife and only child in Punjab, India). We recommend donations by Cheque or PayPal, and will be publishing on our website, FaceBook and Internet forums a list of all the donations (initials of the donor and amount) for maximum transparency. For donations by PayPal please include in the "special instructions" that you are donating for the Sukhwinder Singh’s Family Fund so we can differentiate from donations for other projects. For donations by cheque please include your full name and address as well as again a brief note that you are donating for the Sukhwinder Singh’s Family Fund. For donations by Bank Transfer please drop us an email afterwards giving us the details of how much you donated so you can be added to the list. All details including bank details, e-mail addresses and phone numbers can be found: http://www.khalsaaid.org/donate.html Khalsa aid volunteers already scheduled to go to Punjab next month (oversee and expand our existing projects in Punjab) will personally hand deliver the collection to the family. On Saturday Ravinder Singh (chairman) of Khalsa Aid went to Berkinq Gurdwara to speak to the President of the committee Swaran Singh. The President was advised to take the lead and that Khalsa Aid (with other Gurughars) would support the Gurdwara in any funeral arrangements, and also recommended that as per the wishes of the sangat, money should be raised to be handed personally to Sukhwinder's immediate family in Punjab. The meeting was not conclusive, and another arranged for tomorrow afternoon. Please do not donate any money to Khalsa Aid at this time, we will brief the sangat in full of any decisions reached tomorrow. 9. Dear Sadh Sangat Ji, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !! The conflict in Pakistan's tribal and border areas between the Pakistani Army and the Taliban insurgents, has forced many civilians to seek shelter in the safety of nearby cities. Earlier in 2009 the Hindu and Sikh refugees from the Swat region of Pakistan took refuge in Panja Sahib Gurdwara, Hasan Abdal. Khalsa Aid provided humanitarian assistance to the nearly 3000 men, women and children. Khalsa Aid received an e mail from Sant Singh ( member of Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandak Committee ) last week requesting humanitarian relief for the 150 Sikh refugee families temporarily housed in Bhai Joga Singh Gurdwara, Peshawar. The temperature has dropped dramatically and the need for blankets was a priority. The local Khalsa Aid volunteer ,Tahir Mahmood , travelled from Islamabad to Peshawar to coordinate the relief supplies with Sant Singh as a matter of urgency. On Sunday 10th Dec 2010 the Khalsa Aid team in Pakistan delivered blankets, food rations and much needed medicines to the Committee of the Bhai Joga Singh Gurdwara. The cold weather will continue to pose a challenge for the refugees, we will continue to monitor the situation and provide whatever is needed. We operate thanks to YOUR GENEROSITY , please donate so that we can continue to provide relief around the world. 10. No, they didnt want to go back to India. They informed us that they that they had financial constraints and had either used their entire savings or borrowed heavily. The link Matheen has provided explains the issues the illegal immigrants on Ceuta are facing. Ceuta is not classified as European soil. There are many NGOs in Ceuta providing vital relief etc, we will always be on standby if there is any humanitarian needs for these guys. ".. Recently, the Spanish authorities are really restrictive," says Mr. Cardín. "Only 10 percent can obtain the visa and generally these are really extreme cases, as for Iraqi or Kurdish refugees, victims of sexual and religious discrimination, or people needing deep medical treatments not available in their own country. For the others, only repatriation remains."... ... " After the Indian ambassadress visited the city in 2007," says Gurpreet, spokesman for the "rebels," "the situation became ever worse; almost 50 percent of us were repatriated immediately. Thus, as sign of protest, we decide to take shelter to the forest. We hoped to come to the attention of the community, but, as you can see, after one year, we are still here....
  11. Following the broadcast of the "Sikhs in Distress " program on the Sikh Channel tonight ( Dec 25th ) Khalsa Aid has had a few calls regarding offering assistance to the Panjabi immigrants in Ceuta, Spain. The Sikh Channel intially raised this issue in early November, following this intial program Khalsa Aid made contact with the Panjabi immigrants in Ceuta. We made an offer of providing humanitarian assistance in the form of food, blankets and medical assistance however this offer was declined. They clearly stated that they required political assistance to land them in Spain, unfortunately Khalsa Aid has no expertise in this area and so had no option but to withdraw. We hope that the Sikhs in Spain and the Indian government will be able to assist them as a matter of urgency. Our offer of humanitarian assistance remains open.We commend the Sikh Channel for raising this important issue. 13. Gurfateh Inder Singh Apologies for the delay in responding to you, However since your post we organised a Keertan programme with lectures from some very established and active Sikh organisations. We would like to thank the speakers who came as well as the sangat. The situation in Ludhiana was discussed and the sangat was informed of ways they could help remedy the situation there. Also we set up a petition to Gordon Brown (UK Prime Minister), calling on him to look into the human rights abuses in Punjab, along with the other serious issues such as drugs and HIV in Punjab. We have been on local radio stations and Gurudawaras campaigning for this cause, and due to this and the above, responding to your post was not of critical urgency. I am somewhat disappointed by your remarks, and am puzzled that having read this article: http://www.emgonline.co.uk/news.php?news=8220 Instead of the serious issues raised about Christian missionaries and another sects who are openly converting Sikh families on a massive scale Average debt for every Punjabi farm household is Rs 1.39 lakh-leading to farmer suicides as well as other socio-economic factors in Punjab which are stifling the well-being of the state You are more concerned about a Sikh organisation in Punjab who are supporting families, sponsoring children's education teaching Gurbani and Gurmat Sangeet classes? First of all, Khalsa Aid is an international humanitarian organisation. As a registered charity, we have no religious or political affiliations or agenda. This is why we have never been in 10 years aligned to any Jathebandi or organisation, Sikh or otherwise. We have spent four years with the Gurmat Gian College, observing their work before we trusted them to oversee our projects in Punjab remedying the literacy and drug problems in Sikh families. We in no way support them or “collaborating with them”, they receive no support from us, and we simply sponsor children through them for education. We are completely aware of the educational programme, and its contents. These families and villages are testament to the fact that no other organisation (at least in these areas) are helping them, explaining why hundreds of families in these areas have converted to Christianity or other cults. The Sikhi part of the education is very basic (keeping in mind the age of the kids) covering The Lives of the Guru's and the Guru Granth Sahib ji etc. In regard to them being anti-Dasam Granth and promoting an ideology of no Amrit Sanchar Banis, they follow the Sikh Rehat Maryadha (Akaal Takhat) and are Amritdhari. Regardless of this, our only priority is the children. In these areas, I have travelled many times to Punjab, and flying again very soon possibly in January, and can give witness that they are the only people working on the ground level in these areas of Punjab. Do you know of any others? And also please view our videos from when I went to Punjab last: Sikhs are converting to Christianity due to lack of support from the Sikh community, what alternative would you suggest, that we allow these families to rot away and ultimately be led astray from Sikhi? It is very sad that we worked globally over the past 10 years, and we have never had these issues. We have worked with Hindus, Christians and Muslims but now we are working with Sikhs to help Sikhs and now were facing questions regarding internal political/religious issues which we do not get involved in. I hope I have answered your questions, however I honestly believe no answer would be good enough for you. Having witnessed the poverty and Christian missionary/cults is issues in Punjab, Khalsa aid will not turn their back on these children. Khalsa aid is answerable to its volunteers and donors, without whom we would never have been able to do any of the projects we have launched and completed around the world. As far as I'm aware you are neither of those. Our volunteers and donors are fully aware of our projects in Punjab, and wish us to continue, which with Guru Kirpa we will. I don't wish to continue this conversation any further, but my contact details are on the website should you choose to. Regards Ravinder Singh CEO Khalsa Aid Khalsaaid.org
  14. Gurfateh Please tune into Panjab Radio channel 0130 (SKY) at 18.00pm today, Ravinder Singh Chairman of Khalsa Aid will be on air talking about the Petition for Human Rights in Punjab and projects Khalsa Aid is working on in Punjab. http://www.panjabradio.co.uk/sp_pbmain.aspx?id=1
  15. Please sign below the "e petition" to Gordon Brown regarding the current (recent ) issues in Punjab and the lack of human rights for the Sikhs , please forward to your friends and family. WE NEED EVERYONE TO SIGN THIS PETITION TO MAKE A STRONG STATEMENT FOR ANY ACTION TO BE TAKEN http://petitions.num...uk/PanjabSikhs/ Petition Reads : We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to seek answers from the Indian goverment, regarding the lack of human rights for Sikhs living in the Punjab. Since 1947 the Sikhs living in the Punjab in north India have been struggling for basic human rights. There is a lack of economic growth, 80% of the youth in Punjab are drugs dependent, the education system is failing, Amritsar has become the HIV capital of the world, in addition there is an alarming rate of farmer suicides in Punjab yet the Indian government has failed to take any action to tackle these issues or educate the population living in Punjab. There is wide scale neglect of the Sikhs in Punjab, resulting in a failure of the infrastructure that is needed to promote the welfare of a population. Sikhs have been robbed of their right to peaceful protest and recent events on the 5th December in Ludhiana have once again confirmed this. Sikhs protesting against an individual inciting religious hatred were indiscriminately shot at with a number of protesters being shot or trampled to death by police brutality. We as British citizens are deeply concerned for Sikhs living in Punjab

  18. The events of 5th December 2009 have once again sent shock waves amongst Sikhs across the globe; Once again, it is evident that Sikhs are regarded as second-class citizens in India. Being shot at and trampled upon by Punjab police and the thugs of the Indian state. Sikhs have once again been brutally beaten and murdered for protesting against those inciting religious hatred and insulting the core of our Sikh beliefs. This cold-blooded murder of the innocent Sikhs has bought back memories of 1978 and 1984. Khalsa Aid is deeply disappointed and saddened that the Punjab government headed by a 'Sikh' has played a part in allowing the Ashutosh followers to hold a program in the heart of Punjab knowing that this will be offensive to the Sikhs. <IMG id=Picture_x0020_1 alt=khanda2 width=81 height=89><IMG id=Picture_x0020_2 alt=logo width=267 height=63><IMG id=_x0000_i1027 alt=C:\Users\Jeti\Desktop\ka\focuspunjablogo.jpg width=301 height=240> Ramgharia GurdawaraWoodlands AvenueSlough BerkshireSL1 3BU Saturday 12th December 2009 6-10pm As a humanitarian aid agency, Khalsa Aid has always endeavoured to help those in need, in disaster-hit areas or those that have been left devastated by conflict. Now we will also be focusing on supporting our brethren in Punjab and the families of those Shaheeds who have been robbed of their lives because they dared to stand up for our rights. We must not make the same mistakes as 1984 and leave the families of these Shaheed Sikhs to suffer in poverty. We urge all Sikhs regardless of their 'jathabandi' to unite at this time and work together to support those that are in need. We are in a position to help and must not let our differences stand in the way of providing support where it is most needed to our brothers, sisters and our future in Punjab; the young children. The tactics that are being used to divide and destroy our identity are well documented. Khalsa Aid and Ramgharia Gurdawara Slough are facilitating an evening of reflection and an opportunity for all to unite and share our thoughts and explore how we as Sikhs can unite and support all initiatives that are currently underway by all 'Jathbandis' so that we can work effectively as a united force against the multi-factorial attacks on Sikhi and our beloved Panjab. Khalsa Aid would like to express our heart felt grataitude to Akaal Muay Thai ( A.M.T ) of Southall for their continued support, we are extremely appreciative of their ongoing dedication and commitment in fundraising for us. Over recent months they have successfully raised up to £3000 for the charity.Their recent fundraising during the Southall Nagar Kirtan and the Birmingham Nagar Kirtan was truly admirable. Khalsa Aid is only able to continue with its operations as a result of the wonderful support the organisation receives from the Sangat. the youngsters of Akaal Muay Thai have been very supportive and have also dedicated a significant amount of their personal time to support us, often balancing this with their studies and work.
