  2. GPS We requested through various media, The Taksaal or AKJ to provide parcharaks or gurmat programs etc, You seem to know a lot about everything, can you provide us with an update on if there are any other projects or groups we can support?

Update Focus Punjab – Shaheed Parivaars Focus Punjab – Shaheed Parivaars: Since the Focus Punjab project was extended to include the monthly welfare support for the Sikh families who have lost their sons and fathers to the violent and destructive period from mid 1980's to mid 1990's. (http://www.ensaaf.org/publications/) Khalsa Aid has been inundated with urgent requests for support. Although we have a fulltime employee in Punjab, who coordinates the allocation of support for Shaheed Parivaars, we regularly send volunteers to oversee and support the projects. Although the state sponsored massacres (Operation Woodrose) during the 1980s to 1990s in Punjab were turbulent and horrific, we cannot and should not forget those who are still suffering from the consequences. Following a needs and means assessment, Khalsa Aid is providing monthly support to these affected families, who are more commonly known as Shaheed Parivaars. KA Volunteers Kiratraj Singh and Karam Kaur earlier this month travelled to Punjab, and were understandably overwhelmed with what they saw: To control your tears while Mata ji and Pita Ji and their families relive the events of 1984 and tell us about their Shaheed Singhs is indescribable..These Mothers are the Jewels of our Panth, they sacrificed so much for the Panth, but why don’t we care about them? "We have met countless families of Shaheed Singh’s and its absolutely heartbreaking to see the level of poverty which these families are STILL living in!” Karam Kaur Khalsa Aid is eternally grateful to the Sangat, as through the support of the Sangat we were able to provide Rs. 3 Lakh to Major Dalbir Singh, Dharmi Fauji. We had earlier shown to the Sangat what the conditions this family was living in, their house was decrepit and dilapidated and did not provide even shelter from the elements. Now he and his family can finally live in a house with full shelter. Karam and Kiratraj were shocked after visiting Shaheed Satnaam Singh Cheena family and seeing with their own eyes the level of poverty his widow and son were living in. Monetary support was provided, including the start of monthly welfare support and unlimited support for his son education. If any member of the Sangat wishes to see our projects, or meet a sponsored family in Punjab, we are happy to provide transport and facilitate the visit. 4. Khalsa Aid is concentrating its efforts in Punjab and searching and supporting the families of the Shaheeds who have been neglected. We are also supporting other poverty stricken Sikhs and the Dharmi Faujis. We have so far set up monthly support for over 70 families. We will not be launching any further projects until we have established these projects , some of these projects in Punjab will no doubt be expanding rapdily . However as an emergency relief organisation we will continue our international aid provision where needed. Our work in Haiti and on the Libyan border continues.
  5. Khalsa Aid is actively providing financial support for the poor Sikhs in rural Punjab. The Christians, Rada Swamis,Ram Rahims and all other are taking FULL advantage of our in-fighting over internal differences. Khalsa Aid has openly invited Pracharaks from different Jathas to set up Prachar centres in their local areas of Punjab but nobody has come forward. We can blame everyone else but unless we start to take the first step by providing financial aid for the poor Sikhs we will remain static and the anti-Sikh elements very active.
  6. United Nations Thank Khalsa Aid for Humanitarian Assistance Libyan Conflict: As the war rages on in Libya, those that are fortunate, manage to escape the fierce fighting by crossing over to neighbouring Tunisia. Unfortunately they go from one humanitarian crisis to another, as the refugee camps they end up in are over stretched and under resourced. When KA first reached the camps, the problems immediately identified was that although there was no shortage of food for meals in the UN run camps, there were not enough volunteers on the ground to efficiently distribute the meals. This meant many refugees waiting for hours in the sun only to go hungry as others had gone around more than once. This led to rioting with hungry refugees protesting at not having food to eat. KA then set up a 10 man food distribution team who helped distribute up to 40,000 meals a day, to help the understaffed camp organisers. Hovic Etyemez, Chief Coordinator for Refugee Camp Choucha (Libyan Border), UN Refugee Agency message to Khalsa Aid (KA): "I would like to thank you, from the bottom of my heart what KA has done in terms of the humanitarian contribution for the ongoing crisis here. Thank you very much, we hope we can rely on you in the future for humanitarian work." Claire, Action against Hunger who coordinates the meal distribution with World Food Program on the help of KA: “ I would like to thank you (KA) very, very much. When you first arrived you witnessed all the problems we were having (riots broke out). It was very difficult for us to manage (number of refugees), thanks to you guys, your help, the KA team is doing a great job and since they started we have very few problems.” Another problem was fresh drinking water, KA provided 50,000 litres of bottled drinking water to be used in the medical camps for the most vulnerable; the pregnant and lactating mothers, the sick, the young and the old. This need was raised by many NGO’s but unfortunately due to red tape there were severe delays, so KA took the initiative to arrange an immediate delivery, to which the NGOs and refugees were relieved to receive. Khalsa Aid as a small charity worked with larger organisations such as UN Refugee Agency, World Food Program, Action For Hunger, Italian Red Cross, Red Crescent and the Rotary Club International (Tunis) to identify areas of needs which we could meet quicker than larger organisations (whose authorisation and support for projects from head offices can take days, even weeks). Working as a partner of such organisations we provided clothing for hundreds of babies and children, and also baby milk powder for the Tunisian Military Doctors. It was a humbling experience, serving water to those in desperate and urgent need I believe is what the concept of langar is about, feeding the hungry, not the fed. I was very proud to represent Sikhs worldwide at the refugee camps, seeing the KA trucks roll into the camps draped in Jhande, and having the Nishaan Sahib recognised alongside other NGO’s such as the United Nations was great awareness for Sikhs. I believe more work like this is needed to increase and improve the reputation and awareness of Sikhs worldwide, to combat challenges and attacks on articles of the Sikh faith seen recently” Baljit Singh (KA Volunteer) Please continue to support Khalsa Aid, so we can continue to do Seva and increase the global awareness of Sikhs. 8. Libyan Conflict Refugees Relief Libyan Conflict: Thousands of migrant workers and civilians from Libya are stranded on the Tunisian/Libya border known as Ras Ajdir. Many are from very poor countries and they simply cannot afford to return to their respective homelands. Khalsa Aid and The Tunisian Red Crescent are extremely concerned that the situation is reaching critical, and are witnessing many more refugees arriving on the Tunisian border on a daily basis. Khalsa Aid (UK) has launched an aid program to assist the refugees in the camps at Ras Ajdir. KA is working closely with the Rotary Club Tunis (who has offered their full assistance) to purchase and supply much needed food and basic sanitation materials. Ravinder Singh, CEO of Khalsa Aid is in Tunisia helping to set up the relief program. "There is a great need to assist these refugees. Many are migrant workers who are by no means wealthy. As the war intensifies, some of their governments will not be able to bring them home at all, so we must do all we can to look after these innocent victims. There are families here huddled together in make shift tents with no water, food or proper shelter. Very little aid is getting through – the situation is desperate.” Khalsa Aid: Khalsa Aid is the first cross border humanitarian organisation based on the Sikh principles of Sarbat Da Bhalla and Vand Kay Chakna. 9. Khalsa Aid hascontinued to expand its projects in Punjabsince 2009, we have now initiated Parchar/social programs in 20 villages invarious areas. The latest cluster of villages was chosen in the vicinity ofAnti-Sikh Cult Ram Rahim. This was chosen to support the povertystricken Sikhs who are the prime targets for the cults, radaswamis and ChristianMissionaries. We are financially supporting 170 children at the cost of 57000 rupees each month; this will increase as the children get older and attendhigher education. We have announced to all the families of these children thatthey will benefit from emergency medical cover too, the only conditions arethat they refrain from alcohol, drugs and only follow Sri Guru Granth Sahib astheir Guru (video of speech in a village close to the dera of Ram Rahim by theCEO of Khalsa Aid will be posted soon) The Dharmi Fauji welfare payments are now running at 15000 Rupees per month. Our recent financial support for the Shaheed families (see photo attached) and the families of the jailed Singhs (total 12 families and expanding) is costing 60000 Rupees per month. The CEO of Khalsa Aid personally visited all thesefamilies and reassured them that we will stand by them. Some of these familiesare living in fear of the police and if anybody helps them then the police willmost likely harass them. But we firmly believe that if we all took the step toreach these families then the fear will subside and the police will eventuallynotice that we are doing nothing more than assisting these families on ahumanitarian basis. We urge the Sangat to sponsor a family of the Dharmi Faujis,Jailed Singhs or the Shaheed families. Khalsa Aid will give the sponsor fullaccess to the chosen family so there will be full transparency. There are many problems in Punjabbut we can all start to take a small step to offer support to our heroic andpoor Sikh brethren then the tide will turn and no cult will be able come near them.We do not care what Jatha the sponsored family is with, we only see heroicparents of Shaheed Singhs and struggling families of the jailed Singhs. Khalsa Aid invites you to visit any of the families abovewhilst you are in Punjab and see for yourself how these folks struggle on adaily basis whilst we fight each other over minor issues. We have a full timeemployee in Punjab, his job is to run thisprogram and also to "find" the forgotten families of our Shaheed in ruralvillages, his salary is not included in the sums above. Where possible we have made video interviews of thefamilies, not only to document the stories of these families and the workcarried out but also to avoid duplication, so all panthic organisations, jathebandis etc know which families are being supported so others can behelped. 10. Japan Khalsa Aid are closely monitoring the situation in Japan where thousands of people are in urgent need because of the massive earthquake that rocked the region. Plans to send out a team of Khalsa Aid volunteers are underway and we are currently in talks with the relevant government and non-governmental organisations to coordinate our efforts. The damage caused to nuclear reactors further complicates and increases the danger of any effort to aid the survivors. Khalsa Aid appeals to the Sangat to donate towards the relief effort: http://www.justgiving.com/khalsaaid/Donate Haiti Ravinder Singh Gill left London enroute to Haiti on the 21st January 2011. He maintained and supervised the sanitation program (providing clean water and hygiene) for KA supported orphanages, also providing food and medicines to the orphans. On the 11th March three Khalsa Aid volunteers including Ravinder Singh (CEO), Dilbagh Singh and Andrew Duncan flew out to Haiti. Andrew is a Barclays Bank Manager and was impressed with Khalsa Aid’s work and volunteered to go out on a mission. We thank Andrew and the Barclays branches which fundraised for Khalsa Aid and raised approx £1000 for the relief effort. News reports show that unprotected Haitian orphans are being trafficked for less than £1 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/centralamericaandthecaribbean/haiti/8328850/Haiti-earthquake-children-sold-by-traffickers-for-as-little-as-76-pence-each.html) Khalsa Aid appeals to all not to forget the plight of these people, more than a year on and the progress is painfully slow due to many difficulties including corruption and civil unrest. Since January 2010 Khalsa Aid has sent 8 teams throughout the year to continue our relief program. Mount Snowdon Hike To celebrate 12 years of Humanitarian Aid and to support Khalsa Aid projects, Khalsa Aid volunteer Jaspal Singh has organised a mass sponsored hike of Mount Snowdon (Wales) on April 10th 2011. This event is open to all sangath members who are in a fit state of health. The walk will take approximately 3-4 hours and we recommend participants be 12 years old and over. This event is open to all sangath members who are in a fit state of health. The walk will take approximately 3-4 hours and we recommend participants be 12 years old and over. 14. Waheguru ji ki ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh, Usually Khalsa Aid never gets involved with these matters, but the thought that Mr Himmat Singh Sohi’s party is trying to come back into power is just an unbearable thought. Even with small teething problems that any new party has coming into office we believe that the Shere Party (Malhi) has made huge improvements in many areas. In addition to the increase of Sikhi Parchaar which has seen a big increase in young Sikhs discovering their roots and heritage, they have been very active in the community to support local sports and martial arts clubs to get our kids of the streets. Furthermore, the Baaj party has openly made clear its affiliations and loyalties which sadly means that social problems in the land all Sikhs call home (Punjab) will never be discussed. Baaj party as shown in their previous reign that they will never educate the Sangat about important Panthic issues such as Human Rights Abuses, Corruption, Rampant Drug Abuse etc. In the past two years of the Shere Party there has been inspiring Exhibitions, seminars and talks about issues such as these and we fear there will be a clampdown if Baaj party was to return. Saving millions of the sangats money the Shere party has shown diligence and professionalism, whereas Mr Sohi has just returned from the Courts having sued the Gurughar for approx £500,000.00 in costs. It is sad at a time when poverty is strife in Punjab that Mr Sohi felt it was value for the Gurus money just for him to eligible to be a Pardhaan again. We appeal to everyone to support the good work of Shere party who we will believe will continue to improve their seva, and keep working for the Sangat rather than foreign agencies.

  16. Khalsa Aid: Punjab and Global Relief update HAITI: Another Team Despatched The earthquake in January 2010 left Haiti devastated and killed over 230000 people. Khalsa Aid has been involved in providing sustained aid to the survivors of the earthquake since January, 10 KA volunteers have flown to Hati over the past year from the UK and North America. This aid included Installing water tanks in several relief camps Providing clean water and food throughout the worst affected areas Providing crutches, medicines and mobilising mobile medical clinics Setting up a camp for International NGOs to operate from (Camp Unity) Installing water pumps in 6 orphanages. (short clip on our work in Haiti)The latest KA volunteers to head to Haiti, Parmjit Singh and Karam Kaur flew out on the 3rd Dec 2010 to offer assistance and implement preventative measures against the recent Cholera outbreak. (Paramjit and Karam raised over 3000 from family and friends for the project) Khalsa Aid has had several requests for further installation water pumps; we will be working closely with our local Haitian contacts to expand the Khalsa Aid Water4Haiti program in other areas of North Haiti. "was pleasantly surprised to see some of your work around PaP (Port Au Prince)! Thank you for your great work and I look forward to hearing from you! Regards in service, " WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) R&D Coordinator for Oxfam (GB ),Haiti, July 2010 PUNJAB, Supporting Sikhs in Poverty Since 2009 KA has been working tirelessly in identifying and meeting the needs of the poverty stricken Sikhs in rural Punjab who are facing challenges such as the rise of drugs & alcohol abuse, unemployment and the rise of divisive cults. There is also an aggressive campaign by Christian Missionaries to convert the underprivileged Sikhs through financial assistance and deception. Khalsa Aid launched Focus Punjab in 2008 to raise awareness of the issues in Punjab to the Sikh Diaspora. We believe that the International Sikh community must reach out to the poor Sikhs in Punjab and support them spiritually and financially. In Jan 2009 we initiated a sponsorship scheme for 60 Sikh children from poor families in Goindwal, each of these children who regularly attend a Gurmat Gian Gurbani centre receive 250 Rupees monthly. We now currently sponsor 90 Sikh children, which will increase monthly with the support of the Sangat. (short video on Focus Punjab)KA urges all Sikhs to sponsor the opening of Gurmat centres in their villages, if you wish to do this independently of KA we will endeavour to provide logistical assistance. Bibi Paramjit Kaur from Glasgow, Scotland contacted Khalsa Aid early in 2010 and opened a Gurmat Gian Gurbani centre in her village, Apra, Punajb. The pracharak is based in Apra but covers 10 villages in the vicinity of Apra; this centre teaches Gurbani to over 300 children and also holds discussions on the dangers of drugs & alcohol abuse. Khalsa Aid has opened a Gurmat Gian Gurbani centre Saduwal, Mansa; this area is the stronghold of the Cult leader Ram Rahim. The Saduwal Centre is in an area of extreme poverty, the children in this centre receive a regular sum of 200 Rupees a month for attending the Gurbani classes twice a week. We wish to increase this program to the surrounding villages, we can only do this with your support Dharmi Faujis: Forgotten Heroes of the Panth During the attack on Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in June 1984 thousands of Sikhs in the Indian Military immediately left their barracks and some marched towards Amritsar to defend their holiest shrine. Most of these 'Dharmi Faujis' were slaughtered along the way and the remaining were imprisoned. The Indian government stripped them off their rights, privileges and pension. These Singhs who did not think twice about serving the Panth are now living in dire poverty and their families have suffered immense distress. The process of identifying the neediest Dharmi Faujis began in the beginning of November 2010; it is a very slow process as KA volunteers have to travel across Punjab. So far Khalsa Aid has set up monthly payments of 1500 Rupees to 12 Dharmi Fauji families, and we aim to increase this every month until all Dharmi Faujis in need are supported: (video of Dharmi Faujis)The number of Dharmi Faujis assisted is directly linked to the support we receive from the Sangat to do so, if you would like to donate for this cause please click: http://www.justgiving.com/punjab If you would like to directly sponsor a Sikh child or Dharmi Fauji, please set up monthly donations, KA will provide full contact details to enable donors to communicate with those they support. In fact KA encourages volunteers/sponsors to travel to Punjab/Hait to see with their own eyes the work carried out and the difference made by the Sangats Dasvandh (donations). Khalsa Aid Volunteers Khalsa Aid would like to thank recent volunteers who have taken time out to raise awareness and funds for Khalsa Aid: Jaspal Singh: Raised £1902.56 trekking up Scafell Pike (978m) Paramjit Singh and Karam Kaur: Raised over £3k for projects in Haiti Khalsa Klub: Raised over £2k for Pakistan/Punjab Floods through sponsored walk Team Aasra: Raised £128.21 running a Marathon 3 Peaks Khalsa: Raised nearly £4k by trekking 3 of the highest mountains in UK in 24hrs! 17. By spreading false Christian Missionaries in Punjab are degrading the Guru Granth Sahib ji and attacking the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh ji, in order to convert Sikhs into their fold. Watch Sikh channel tonight to learn more. Khalsa Aid have always stated that after 10 years of humanitarian service around the globe Khalsa Aid would focus its efforts towards Punjab. Whilst we continue to carry out humanitarian relief work globally we are also setting up several projects in Punjab. The Christian Missionaries are misrepresenting Gurbani and using this to convert the rural Sikh population of Punjab, this has gone unabated for the last decade. Khalsa Aid is not against any religion, far from it , we assist non - Sikhs around the globe in any disaster. But we are deeply concerned at the lack of action by the Sikh institutions ( SGPC ) who were set up to counter such propaganda and to promote Sikhi as a positive way of life. The rural poor Sikh population in Punjab is under extreme pressure from debt, drugs, unemployment, alcohol, HIV and the Christian missionaries, they do not have the time to think about the internal issues which are ripping the Sikhs apart. The collective failure of many organisations to set up economic support groups since 1984 has led to hopelessness in the very poor areas of Punjab ( Mukatsar, Ferozpur, Mansa and many other areas ). The social revolution can only initiate from the west. We are either filling the Golaks in Harmandar Sahib or we are creating an elite group of millionare holy men who are hording the funds for their own " holy business centres " AKA the Deras. Khalsa Aid has launched Focus Punjab to raise issues such as Dharmi Faujis, Rural poverty, conversions and to to train young Pracharaks as social workers. Having been visiting villages all over Punjab since 2008 KA is shocked at the level of anti-Sikh activities and the rise of narcotics/HIV. Tune in tonight to learn more 7pm Sikh Channel, Sky 840
  18. Gurfathe Mehtab Singh, Thank you very much for highlighting this deserving cause. We have a chance to right some wrongs: over the last 26 years or so, from the 40 thousand plus that stood for and with the Panth only a few hundred remain. Many became Shaheed, but those that survived the battles, the lengthy prison sentences, have had to endure a very testing time. Those that did not desert their posts went on to promotions and pensions, those that did have been neglected and forgotten. Lets atleast make sure their last years are free of worry, of how they will feed themselves or their families, surely "heroes" deserve more
  19. Khoolasice, thank you for wishing to support the Sikhs in Punjab, India. In regards to trust and accountability, Khalsa Aid has launched over 19 international aid relief programs over the last 11 years. While we may have crititcs (mostly on Sikhsangat!), with Guru kirpa no one has ever been able to question the transparency of our projects in relation to funds and its usage. Recently two projects come to mind which demonstrate this, one was when Akbal Singh and another Singh donated for a water pump in Haiti and money for a dharmi fauji, we have published two videos which show the seva carried out as required by the donors. With most charities the amounts donated would not have even covered weekly costs/wages etc let alone make it over to Haiti and Punjab (CEO of International Red Cross earns over 500k a year!) In most projects it is members of the sangat who volunteer to go on international projects (we dont have paid relief workers), and these people who usually not known to us can verify the work carried out. If anyone wishes to do seva but not donate money, donate your time, why not approach Khalsa Aid and register your interest to volunteer abroad, all we ask is that you help raise funds for your costs (tickets etc). For over 10 years Khalsa Aid was ran completely voluntarily, and even now have only one paid worker (for all admin, banking, supervise all curent projects etc). In regards to sponsoring Sikh children and/or Dharmi Fauji, anyone who sponsors can have direct access with the families to confirm the seva, in fact we actively encourage donors to meet with the families if they travel to Punjab.

  21. Haiti – Punjab – Pakistan Just to update everyone about the current International Humanitarian Aid projects launched by Khalsa Aid. Pakistan Recent floods in Pakistan have left 20 million people homeless. Many are facing a slow and painful death due to lack of clean water and food. UN General Secretary remarked on the floods: "I will never forget the destruction and suffering I have witnessed today. In the past, I have witnessed many natural disasters around the world, but nothing like this." Khalsa Aid has of last week launched a huge project in Pakistan, to reach the most hard hit and hard to reach areas. While many Aid Organisations are struggling to deliver aid, local and long serving Khalsa Aid volunteer Tahir Mahmood in Islamabad is already providing aid to victims of the flood in the Mansera area (North West Frontier). Tahir was instrumental in 2009 in Khalsa Aid efforts to assist Sikh and Hindu refugees displaced in the Swat Valley conflict, as well as co-coordinating KA efforts in the Pakistan Earthquake 2005 project. Punjab Breaches along the embankment of the Ghaggar river flooded hundreds of villages in Punjab. Over 270 thousand acres alone have been damaged in districts of Patiala, Sangrur, Mohali, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Moga and Mansa. Ravinder Singh, Khalsa Aid CEO and one of our most experienced volunteers has been in Punjab since the end of July. Working with local farmers unions, he has been travelling village to village in the Mansa area to assess the damage to identify those who need help most. Ravinder Singh reports from Punjab "it is very distressing to see how much the Punjabi farmers are suffering from the effects of the floods. It is worsened by the fact that although all international media is concentrating on Pakistan no one has considered the fate of these victims of the same floods. Furthermore, whilst the Pakistan government has made international pleas for support, the Punjab State government has made no such effort and is in effect devaluing the extent of the suffering of the Punjabi Farmers condemning them to struggle alone. We are working in Mansa, as there are no other aid agencies here, and these villagers have the highest rate of farmer suicides in Punjab." More details will follow but Khalsa Aid plan to provide families with existing debt, and less than acres of land, along with emergency support, with the seeds of next years crop and fertiliser. In 2008 floods hit Punjab, Bihar and neighbouring areas. Dozens of International Aid Agencies reached Bihar, yet Punjab was forgotten. Khalsa Aid reached Punjab then and is there now again. We urge all Sangat to remember the Punjabis in their time of need. Haiti The catastrophic earthquake that rocked Haiti just over 6 months ago killed 230,000,00, injured 300,000 and made 1,000,000 homeless. Billions of pounds was pledged by International Govts, yet only 2% of pledges have come through. As a result the process of rehabilitating the poorest country in the western hemisphere is still very much in process. Khalsa Aid has been in Haiti since January 2010, launching a variety of projects including mobile medical clinics, providing hundred of thousands of litres of drinking water, food and other necessary provisions. We are now in transition from emergency relief to more long-term projects, and over the past few months we have been working to protect and support the most vulnerable of the survivors, the orphans. Khalsa Aid volunteer Harpreet Singh Mann from Toronto, Canada is the latest to volunteer his time and travel to Haiti to help with ongoing projects. Harpreet has been in Haiti since the 7th August and will spend three works visiting Khalsa Aid sponsored orphanages around Leogane to help with maintenance/general repairs as well as provide food, water and medicine as required. All the money raised will go directly to our program " Water4Haiti ", building safer water units in the country and providing food supplies, especially assisting the orphanages. JustGiving Link Accenture Sikh Group: A group of UK employees working for Accenture - (Global Management Consulting, Technology Services and Outsourcing Company) created the Accenture Sikh Group. Members of which, this year have got together and hope to complete the BUPA 10K run in London on the 31st May 2010. JustGiving Link Brayna, Sandeep Singh Sunner, Gurinder Singh Sangha and Jagdeep Singh will be embarking on the National 3 Peaks Challenge on Sunday 30th May. After speaking to CEO Ravinder Singh (currently in Haiti) and being informed of the projects undertaken they decided to travel immediately to Haiti via Dominican Republic. Although informed of the dangers and difficulties with all International missions, Deep Singh, Prabhroop Kaur and Harlene Kaur booked their tickets regardless, and will be joining the Khalsa Aid team in Haiti. We pray that Waheguru blesses all volunteers of all organizations in Haiti good health, and the strength and courage to help the Haitian people. Canadian Sikh Associations Provide Crutches for the Hundreds of Amputees We are very grateful to Bhai Ajmer Singh of Toronto, "Ontario Sikh and Gurudwara Council, Canada" and the "International Panjabi Foundation of Toronto" for providing 1000 crutches for the amputees in Haiti. Bhai Ajmer Singh has been an excellent example of a committed humanitarian with his rapid selfless reaction to the personal appeal from Khalsa Aid, after we were approached for support by Medicins Sans Frontier (MSF). 5 years ago Bhai Ajmer Singh volunteered with Khalsa Aid in our Tsunami projects, personally travelling to the Andaman Island. Having witnessed and partaking in a Khalsa Aid Project, Bhai Ajmer Singh was confident that Khalsa Aid be chosen to deliver the much needed supplies to the Haitian people. These crutches were distributed to the hospitals in Port au Prince on Thursday 11th February. These crutches are one of the most sought after medical equipment due to the extremely high demand caused by the horrific injuries sustained in the earthquake. We thank Bhai Ajmer Singh and his fellow Canadian Gursikhs for their unstinting support. We also wish to thank Air Canada, 1X1 and the Canadian Army for their support in providing the transportation and their great spirit of cooperation as they also were very kind in also providing medicines and food to Khalsa Aid to distribute. Helping at the local Orphanages was especially emotional for the Khalsa Aid team, as they really got attached to them....and as you can see from the photos so did the kids who were intrigued by the Singhs beards! Having already provided food, water and medical provisions in these camps, Khalsa Aid made a commitment to fully renovate the orphanages which at the moment have no floors or proper structures.
