I agree with your original post, simran sounds sweeter when slow paced and deliberate. When its done rapidly, pronounciation goes out of the window, and people sound as if they are making animal noises.

out of respect you should use a silk cloth (if it isnt silk, do not worry , any clean cloth will do). make sure that this cloth is kept seperate and hand washed seperatly from other dirty clothes etc.

wet the cloth, and then wring it 2 remove excess water, then wipe the handle first - TRY NOT TO TOUCH THE BLADE WITH YOUR HAND!

clean into all grooves and design on the hand. then fold the cloth in half so that the side you just used to wipe the handle is in the inside.

then wipe down the blade, starting towards the hilt striking down to the point of the blade. if the kirpan is "dirty", u can use a bit of fairy liquid to help shift the dirt.

then get 2 clean tissues. put a bit of oil on one of the tissues. baby oil will be fine (no cooking oil ) then wipe the blade in the same manner, from the handle to the tip (this will prevent the build up of rust). then with the other tissue, wipe off all excess oil of the blade, so that there is a very thin layer of oil left on the blade.

recite gurbaani whilst cleaning and sharpening shastar.

shastar which are not worn often...try cleaning them maybe once a month or once every 2 months. at all other times keep them in the scabbard. but always clean your shastar if they are dirty...obviously.

I dont agree with this at all. This is just resorting to hooliganism. Can you imagine how sikhs would be portrayed in the media if they were to go on such a rampage. Also alot of this bullying goes on in schools, for people aged 11-16. How many people of this age group are going to start rioting, not many. Alot of sikhs aspire for a decent profession and career, your tactics would see us in jail, meaning less sikhs on the street, meaning that sikhs would be even more heavily out numbered then they are already.

and your going to get freshies, whom alot are here illegally to start fighting and breaking the law. that isnt going to work

Singhs get bullied because they are seen as an easy target. As people have said, they are scared to retailiate. A <banned word filter activated> is only going to start on someone who he thinks he can beat up and bully, how many sulai do you see bullying kalai. Another thing is that most sulai are all show. When i was at high school, which wasnt that long ago but i appreciate things might have changed since then. not many people in my year went to boxing classes, or did any other martial arts. They just go around with an attitude which shits others up. Its all about mentality, and who should have the best mentality apart from the singhs, a race of warriors.

Another thing that is mentioned above is that sikhs are quite segregated. We are segregated on all sorts of basis, like caste and i read a thread not long ago about segregation between amritdhari and non amritdhari sikhs. That means that singhs can be singled out, members of a particular caste mightn't help another singh from another caste, this sounds stupid i know but i know atleast twice when this has happened.

Im not sure about any sms services, but what you could do is set up email alerts to your email address (sikhnet do hukumnama and others which im not sure of) and then if your phone is capable set up your email address on there which would allow you to check your email on your phone. This way you get the content you want on your phone, just another way round it.

This is totally true, but sadly it is now the norm. Sikh weddings are becoming renound for having a good booze up and party. One way i think that this could be stopped is by the persons being wed pushing for a traditional marriage, with no party etc. But what are the chances of that occuring
