  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Im asking for help from the Sadh Sangat on diet and training routine. I am not going to bore you all with my x factor sob story but Im overweight, got an injury, got more overweight, and now need to turn it around. Hopefully we can create a routine which we can all find useful.

My goal is to loose at least 2.5 stones in around 3-6 months.

Ill break it down in 3 problem areas for me diet, exercise, motivation

    Diet

Does anyone have a decent diet plan that works? I am a veggie also.

Looking into it, Ive decided to get off milk and bread, as it isnt good for dieting, so that includes roti, so I was thinking soy milk and daal/sabji with salad

I was looking at protein shakes and have found this online:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USN-Ultra-Lean-Diet-Whey-800g-/271032867272?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Vitamins_Supplements&//=570106372990&hash=item3f1ad159c8

It has no egg and is designed for weight loss as opposed to muscle build. I was thinking maybe having this as a meal substitute?

Im allergic to nuts so I cant add that to my diet! Im a bit stuck on other foods/meals to have.

Also what about pills, not diet pills but natural pills with vitamins etc?

    Exercise

I was thinking of running for cardio, how many times a week would be decent? I was thinking 5. Also how long should you run? Is distance good for fat loss or time?

How about muscle building/ toning, which sets/reps would be useful

    Motivation

How do you keep it up? I have tried dieting and after a couple of weeks and it falls apart. Is there Parth you can do for motivation? Its so difficult trying to keep at it.

Thanks everyone for reading, any tips work plans anyone can think of?

  2. Here is a great PDF for kids (very basic):

    http://sikhism.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=sikhism&cdn=religion&tm=249&gps=428_1007_916_128&f=10&tt=14&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http://www.sawansinghgogia.com/Sawan_Singh_Gogia/Books_files/GuruNanak%20to%20Sri%20Guru%20Granth%20Sahib.pdf

Learn about the lives of the Guru’s. Be inspired and share their sakhiyan with friends and family, especially children. Make these sakhiyan their bedtime stories and their home education/hobby/passion. Ask them the questions provided, and reward them for correct answers.

Let the Sikh ithihaas (history) be a stepping stone for everyone (esp children) to; learn about the knowledge of ‘life’, remove physical and mental ailments and awaken the ‘atma’ (purpose of our existence) – via the sacred teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.

That pdf is brilliant, it even has a question section at the end!

  3. WJKK WJKF

I have had a question arise and would like to share with the Sadh Sangat.

When we see someone with high Avasta, in good Sangat, following Sikhi, we say they must have done good Karams in a previous life. The same if someone has bad luck or things aren't going from them in this life we say the opposite.

So where does this leave the materialistically wealthy but not spiritual? An example is a movie/ sports star. On the face you see that they are wealthy can buy anything they want, physically attractive, friends, fame etc, but not on a spiritual path. Would you say that they had good karma from their past lives to achieve a status of material wealth, or bad due to no Sikhi/spiritualism.

If it is bad then why do they have worldy happiness, if it was good, then why no Sikhi for them, and why are they seem to be getting pushed away from God (focusing on worldly) rather than closer to God for having good Karam?

    Your thoughts please

  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Je Fateh.

I am looking to create a PDF of short Sakhis together. I was thinking of doing this for my children. I have found a few blogs with Sakhis on and of course on here as well, but it requires alot of copying and pasting. Does anyone have any in a word or text document? If you do please message me and I shall add them. Once done I will try my best to put them into a pdf file and share will everyone here.

  5. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,

What are the reason sscientific or otherwise to wake up and do Naam Simran at AmritVela? I am not disagreeing with AmritVela I would just like to know how is it more beneficial than getting up at 11am for example. Someone once told me because its quieter in the morning to do Simran, is it more than that? I also heard that certain parts of your body vibrate at certain times and this is also why. As you can tell I am neither knowledgeable nor scientific in any way so your help will be much appreciated

  7. I think your right there. When you ask a Sevadar, they don't know what is in the daal etc. It would be good to put a document together, but i think going to the committee in person and explaining the situation would be a good way, perhaps put a sign to say that "this daal has x y or z in which some people could find allergic" and at least have someone in the kitchen that knows what daal has what in it.

  8. I have a docking station for my ipod that i have left on for more than 5-6 hours plus. Im sure they can be used for longer than that. My ipod is the nano, (one of the old 4gb ones) and it has been fine so far, as long as the docking station charges the ipod and its best to switch it off for a few a little while not to have it running 24/7.

This is the docking station I have below, its not the best but its cheap, does the job and comes with a remote as well!

  9. Has anyone met the families of these girls? I am curious to know why they would do something like this. If 15 Sikh girls converted in 2 months, what is the reason behind it? Did they get brainwashed? Didn't their parents teach them about Sikhi? Oh wait, were they discriminated against in case they belonged to one of the so-called "lower castes" ? No hang on, before attacking me, just realize that I am just trying to storm my brains ( :p ) with all possible causes and reasons for this occurrence. What is the real problem? Where have we failed? If it was a few Sikh girls, one could imagine that something was up with them. But 15 ?!?!?! And in just 2 months ?!?!?!?! What is it that they were not getting here and will get there is my question. 40% inter-faith marriages, why? Is it because the Gyani was paid a big sum of money to do so? Isn't the committee paying him well enough already? Didn't they pay for his kids education, or did they say "tusi ki karna paddhaai ke, tusi vi vaaja hee vajouna" ? Sorry but this does happen guys. 4 Sikh girls marrying Muslims, bloody hell, howcome!!!! Its not possible that those guys treated them with more respect than a Singh would, or is it? Wait, they all got tricked and brainwashed into believing that Islam is the best!!!! The parents never taught them about the Shaheeds!!! (etc. etc. etc all that I've been reading on here for 9 plus years).

Sorry for playing the devil's advocate here, but just wanted to take a different approach for a change. Think about it guys. If our brothers and sisters are leaving Sikhi, lets not (as usual) blame the others. Lets introspect as to what WE are doing wrong. I am NOT saying anything is wrong about Sikhi, but possibly a handful of Sikhs. I don't want to start about what the caste cancer has done to us, you already know it. I am not going to start about what kind of Gurdwara committees we have these days, you already know it. I am not going to start about the tactics Muslims use, you already know it. My question (similar to one I asked a few months ago: http://www.sikhsanga...uk/#entry537429 ) is what now? Where have we gone wrong? Why did we treat some of our own the same way they were treated for centuries by the "casteist elitists"?

Don't shoot me, I am just asking questions, please respond if you have answers otherwise don't bother hitting the "Add Reply". Its ok to type your rant and then close the window. I do it at times when I know the post will get "unapproved" :D .

Some interesting points there. You mention that there must be something we should do, but from what I have seen there are 3 types of Sikhs, The Amritdharis, who are all Sikhi, the middle ground, who have Kesh or not in some cases, but have a pyaar for Sikhi, go to camps, know about the Shaheeds etc, and then theres the ones who dont know at all, and are just Sikh by name. Its usually the 3rd set that are usually the ones marrying a muslim or whoever.

These are the people we need to connect with, we cant by force take them Gurdwara, or make them go camps etc. We cant go to their parents and them them off, but then we cant sit idly by and watch them go drinking clubbing and falling for the wrong type. We need to find a way to get them into Sikhi or at least know enough values to know that they respect it enough not to go marrying outside Sikhi.
