    ADMINS PLEASE READ

Having read the post 'can anyone do this'

Got an idea for the sangat. Other forums used to do this.

Maybe have 'a sikhsangat cyberkaamai' programme

For instance, for a certain period of time (could be 1 week, 4 weeks etc whatever the sangat decided), whoever wanted to could commit to doing extra paath/simran etc (the amounT of simran/paath could again be collectively decided but would be good if we all did the same).

we could have a specific post about it, that would encourage all of us to keep to the commitment and to help each other and keep an eye on how we were all doing

For instance an example would be for 2 weeks, we all (who committs) do an extra hour of simran/paath) in the evening time instead of watching tv.

another example could be for 2 weeks, we all do 5 chaupaui Sahib paath for the Khalsa Panth,

There's many examples. we coudl try one and if it works, we could do more for the next one

What do you all think :) ))

Who would be up for something like this?

    hahah, i like this post

it's a good idea, but 1st before asking non-sikhs to do 7 hrs of simran a day, do Sikhs, even amritdharis do 7 hrs of simran a day.

    i know i don't:))

    i like this post

Is this the same Johlanwala that are behind the gurdwara Sahib in oldbury uk?

If it is, then from my knowledge those Singhs are wicked and are panthic. With GURU'S KIRPA i've also had darshan of the Singhs in India and their main headquarters which is near Jallandher. They seem top class Singhs, but chello what do i know, i may not no all the facts.

Could someone pls confirm if Panthic weekly are on about the same Johlanwala Singhs?

In my younger (pre-sikhi) days. I got caught cheating in my English GCSE.

I got an x (unclassified) and not allowed to stay on in the 6th form.

Okay i didn't hack into a pc system, but cheatiing is cheating and any jail sentance seems a bit harsh

chello wut ever Waheguru ji got install for them :)

Are you only looking for students?

Advertise in your local gurdwara, or put the word around to sangat in glasgow,

ok you might not get Amritdhari Gursikhs, but you might at least get panjabis who will hopefulyl respect your rehit.

If this fails, tell potential Gora flatmates, the rules before they sign any agreement, at the end of the day, it's your dads flat, so you can be choosey.

But if you are gonana go for Gora, maybe go for professionals rather than students, as professionals may be 'more quieter' than students.

    time is running out...

Is there anyone interested in this offer? Do you know of anyone who may be interested? Is there anywhere else I could advertise for Amritdhari Singhs?

i am not any officIAL spokeperson for the 'akjs' as u say. Also it wasn't just akj who stopped dong progs there. Singhs moved Baba'jis barsi from there (i think 1 or maybe 2 yrs ago) because of this very practice.

but as i said before, personally i think it's okay to boycot something you don't agree with in the short term, espially a beadbi like party halls and sharab in gurdwara owned buildings but still try to resolve the issue in the long term

and with this particurlar issue at wednesfield. thats EXACTLY what happened

Singhs may have stopped doin progs there in the short term, but in the long run they did apply pressure and made their feelings known and were in communication with the Gursikhs who helped stop the practice. Just because you might not no who's been involved behind closed doors, doesn't mean the Singhs haven't in some way been involved. There's mores ways of stopping something than just 'makin a song and dance and goin in and kicking the bad guys' out'.

With wednesfield situation, if singhs from outside had got involved directly with the 'committee members' doing the beadbi, the committee members woudl have just put up more of a barrier. it's the old mentaltiy of 'it's our territory, so our choice, who are U!!'.

However there was one local Gursikh already involved in the committee, and thus it was the best and most logical way for him to try and change it from inside, and even though he got alot of hassle from both sides, with Guru's kirpa the practice as stopped.

In addition SInghs met with committee members to give other options of putting the hall to good use, such as turning it into a community centre etc and also offered sup[port to do this, and as far as i am aware, thats what is happening now

at the end of the day, the practice as stopped, MOST IMPORTANTLY GURU SAHIBs BEADBI HAS STOPPED, there's a potental of a community centre if local sangat support the sevadars trying to set it up and there's a rain-sbai happening this week, end of!

to me thats a result all round :s )))))))))

let us meet as sangat and get's guru sahibs blessings

Well said Chatanga. This attitude can be seen everywhere. Rather than oppose what 'money-focusing' committees are doing in our Gurughar and try to do something about it, we see the best solution is to just boycott them and hope one day someone else will come along and remove the people in power or change the way our our Gurughars are run. But that aint guna happen. We have to do something. We have to show that we do care about what goes on in our Gurudwaras.

can u imagine in what state the panth wuld be in now, if in 1920 the Sikhs had decided to Boycott Nanakana Sahib instead of throwing the mahants out? it would have been easier for the Sikhs to have jus gone elsewhere. But true to thier Guru they they did the rght thing. gave thier lives for Gurdwara and the restoration of maryada. its an example for us all.

but what are todays Sikhs made of? with thier " we'll go where this duznt happen" . it dont solve nufffin. i know that the akj have not held any progs at wedensfield cos of their party hall. This duznt make the akj any bigger or better, if anything it makes us losers, as the mahants of these times know that our stay away policy means they get a free ride...

  10. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki Fateh.

Some Singhs has a case with a major football club in the west midlands, where they were refused to take kirpans into a stadium.

The Singhs fought the decisison and with Guru's kirpa won.

All the football authorities like the FA, KICK RACISM OUT OF FOOTBAL, THE FOOTBALL LICENSING authority (they deal ewith stadium security issues) knew about it.

It was a long process, but there is policy arond this allowign kirpan into this particurlar clubs stadium.

As i was the one who used the word Boycott, i need to elaborate further.

Hanji i personally feel that if a gurdwara sahib which is meant to house our Dhan Dhan king of Kings Guru Maraj also houses sharab parties, then yes go there as an indivudal if u fell thats okay (it's upto our own consioucs what we do), but when we start doing parchar and panthic progs at this place, then to me (and i am not saying i am right, just my view) that's hypricritcal.

How on one hand can we do kids camps and say 'become Guru di Sikh, follow the teahings and rehit of Guru Maraj' and then on a sunday these same kids see sharabis at the gurdwara hall. Isn't that a mixed messgae.

Personally i feel party halls at Gurdwaras is a big big issue and beadbi, and personally yes my own selfish mind has made me not want to go there (My weaknesses).

I do however agree that if someone is gonna make a stance of 'boycotting' then they shouldn't just sit at home, they should help change things. And just because some SInghs like to do things gupt, how do you know they haven't behind the scences been trying to make a difference.

Yes persoanlly i boycotted progs at wednesfield - it's local to me, I also mentioned to other panthic orgs who were planning to do progs there, that we shouldn't do progs where major beadbi of Guru Maraj is done..

And while making this strong stance, with guru's kirpa i had plenty of dialouge with the Gursikhs who did get involved with the committee and with Gurus kirpa managed to change this practice.

so i still stand by what i said, when they were doing beadbi, no need to do progs there, but still help those who were trying to change things, and then once things are changed, show your support

    Nothign so wrong in this?

    Chello all Good

    Chatanga Ji

I totally disagree with what you are saying, chello it's all good

    I'm PM'ED YOU

    Gurfateh ji

Programmes such as the AKJ rainsbai next week are only happening, because the committee have said this practice has stopped.

I know Singhs who will only go to this gurdwara now, becasue they have been told this practice has stopped, pls reveal or pm details.

    Gurfateh ji

thats so sad, in a pathetic sense that people will only come here now that the parties have stopped. to them parties is the bigger issue rather than going there to do kirtan sewa etc. this is the problem wiv youths today, they see one thing they dont like and go elsewhere like thats gona make any difference. if the guy who stoped this manmat at wednesfield thought i will not go here again do you think the committee would have cared any less. No way Jose. they would be glad . use his example.

and as for the singhs who attend wednesfield now the manmat is over, personally i think that we are better off wivout you, if this is your thinking.

  13. Gurfateh.

    Golee Maro.

Pls give details of this party? like Chatanga said, did it happen after sep?

As the committee have told the sangat that parties have been stopped, so if they are lieing to the sangat, then pls reveal details.

Golee Maro, excellent point. Jathas and organisers have stopped programmes at this Gurdwaras for this precise reason in the past and both local and R4G Singhs have had discussions with this Gurdwara over this issue.

As far as I am aware, the gurdwara has now stopped this practice, thus i can't personally see a reason why programmes shouldn't happen here. Obvioulsy if committes change and circumstances change in the future, then thats another issue.

    U lotz r 2 funi!

Also, aint wednesfield gurduara the one where they own a hall near by serving meat and sharaab for wedding and pre-wedding parties? :s

I know there was a hoo-haa not too long ago. If the jathas and programme organisers would stop organising events there, mayb dey wud get the hint that they need to shut the place down and use it wisely...?

  15. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki Fateh

Wow, this was one amazing camp.

Guru di kirpa, everything about it was wicked

    Highlights for me

    - The food- amazing

    - seeing Singhs clingling on for dear life on the Bronco!!!1

    - The 'Family' welcoming everyone at the entrance to Cross-Roads.

    - The kids doing simran with such pyar

    - The siana Gursikhs who while not participating in looking after the kids, sat in the darbar sahib all day doing bhagti (pls don't mention names!!!!!).

Group 6 were the best (haha, that's cus it was my group :s ))))))))))))

    Namastang Ji

I read soft target over 6 yrs ago, so i will have to refresh the book before making an indepth reply

(the minds not like it used to be, i forget alot of things  )))))).

Anyway from recollection my view of the book was very suspicious, at that time due to the nature of indian media, no books were coming out onto the market, so why would one come out to this nature

Wasn't soft target written by two indian jornalists etc. and was it oriGnally published in india? can't remember for sure

My 'conspiarcy theory' would be indian government got it made to discredit certain thinks, but to make sure the masses brought it, they had to say something to support the movement etc etc

Anyway i 100% agree with you that we shouldn't take the bits we want and leave the bits we don't

either accept it all or none at all.

at the end of the day it's just a book by two jornalists who i believe were indian - would need to double check

as i said early probaly alot of flaws in the above, i BETTER READ THE BOOK AGAIN.

    Peace

if this is true, it's really bad, especially as a number of sikh orgs have made really good links with the army in the last few yrs for recruitment etc.

If this is true, pls make a issue of it and take it as far as you can

Initial ports of contact can be

Anglo Sikh Heritage trail which i believe is run by Ranjit Sinh Rana who has good links with top officers of the British army see http://www.asht.info for email

In addition B.O.S.S have worked closely with the Bristish army for their annual sikhi camps and again have good links with top officers, their website is currnetly down but email info@boss-org.uk

Sikh Federation also have good links with the british army and recently tooka group of sikhs to the armistice day gathering in belgium, Jagtar Singh khalsa regurly posts on here and should be able to point you in right direction

Hopefulyl, one of the above should be able to help, if not, pm and with Guru's kirpa we'll make sure we go and speak to the right ppl to get this issue sorted

    AK47 - Excellent post

I'ld take it one step further.

The majority of youth who come into sikhi intially have the right priorities (Reading Gurbani, doing abyass, doing seva, living for Guru maraj) when they get the thirst with Guru's kirpa to take amrit. After taking amrit with Guru's kirpa this intial thrist continues. it's all Guru's kirpa, but the kamai of the Panj pyarie is a big factor for the initial 'buzz' new amritdharis (especially youth) go through. so in the 1st two yrs or so, new amrtidharees are on 'that buzz'. it is very rare for someone to take amrit and leave the path in the 1st 2 yrs or so.

However once the 'honeymoon' period is over, then the hard slog of living sikhi all the time kicks in, and believe me from personnel experience, there are so many distractions. Thus we all end up getting caught up in these distractions (some of these distractions are so discreet and powerful that even then we thing we are still lviing sikhi, a good example is the whole 'my jatha/my way/my baba is the best' mentatlity, to me thats a big distraction on our sikhi journey).

So with these distractions we lose focus of what the priorities are, we try to complicate our sikhi.

One siana Singh once said that keep your sikhi simple, it can take lifetimes just doing the basics right.

We all go through distractions and hard times, but with Guru's kirpa, what other SInghs have said is when you go through really hard times, do ardas as Guru Maraj is the answer to everything, but in addiiton re-evaulte your own sikhi and remeber what brought you into Sikhi in the 1st place.

What was that feeling we had when we first releasied that with Guru's kirpa, this path was for us!!!!!!!!!!!!

What made us want to give our heads???

When we ask ourselves these questions we always come back to abyass, gurbani, follwoing rehit and Guru's teaching, living for Guru Sahib.

ALot of other things are a big distraction.

Sorry if I've gone of topic and if i said anything dodgy, just all of us need to know what the priorites are and what are just distractions are, we all learning together

    It's all in hukam

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki Fateh
