  1. I was wondering if a petition would help, I don't know how to start one but if someone who has started one before could start one I'm sure it could help abit?

its been happening with ramgharia and bhatra gurdwaras for the last 30 years in this country. You say something about them and they cry the 'caste' issue.

Then they should't make 'ramgharia' gurdwarras, if they let go of their caste pride they'd have nothing to cry about! It's crazy how 'sikhs' can make 'ramgharia' gurdwarra's when the caste system was ordered to be abolished by our gurus.

How can you make a gurdwarra for a caste when the person the gurwarra was built to worship was against the caste system?

It's like building a mosque out of pork.

I really don't understand some people......

  2. Indian people as a group are very racist (sorry, its true).

Yeh you're right, but I'm hoping that this will die out in the future and sikhs will start to understand that a sikh is a sikh and we are forbidden to believe in the caste system and judge people because of their race.

The older generations cannot overcome their way of thinking as it has been implanted in them since childhood.

We are essentially a mix of converted hindus and muslims and even greeks (Alexander the great-or should I say not so great!) and this in itself should have made us the most undiscriminating religion in the world, not even including he fact that Guru Nanak totally preached against caste and race discrimination.

I really don't understand where it all went wrong.

I don't look typically Indian as I have fair skin and many Indians treat me differently before they realise what I am.

It doesn't matter how racist other communities are, we as sikhs follow the true kings, we follow god and the truth and are to set an example to humanity, the world needs true, tolerant, compassionate sikhs.

I have white friends and treat them the same as my Indian friends (I don't have many as they tend to stick together excluding other races) and if my parents would allow me to marry a white sikh that I liked I would in a second.

But the fact is that they wouldn't let me, some families are different but mine and all of my cousin's, second cousins and third cousins families are the same.

Alot of families of course are more understanding however I think most indians have a long way to go before they begin to understand that we are all god's children and he loves us all. If that's not reason enough to look on humanity as equal then we don't have much of a chance.

  3. I believe that also, however I noticed some so called Sikhs are not very forgiving when they find a perceived flaw in a person they are quick to jump on them and blacken their name its human nature I guess but when you reflect back on the faith you do realise people can change for the better. I was thinking about stories of Guru Nanak Dev Ji who would come across criminals and demonic man-eating minded people and yet he was able to change their ways through his spiritual connect and communication.

Yeh he did, there's alot out there we don't understand, many of these bad people are under the influence of evil entities because their belief in god is non-existant or weak, when I think of it that way I feel more forgiving, however if one truly wanted to find the truth and fight this evil, all it takes is a few searches on google.

There have been times where I've fallen of the edge but it's a matter of letting yourself totally drown or to fight to stay afloat, everyone has the ability to humble themselves and ask god for help and every single person in the world (except little babies) has heard of religion and god so there really shouldn't be any excuse.

I studied so many religions before I decided to commit to sikhi, and I came to realise that out of every single religion, sikhi is the best, it's perfect, there's nothing our gurus taught which isn't perfect.

So basically I believe that god allows even bad people chances to find him and turn their lives around, it's just a matter of taking these chances and fighting the kaljug. This is where bad people go wrong, they choose kaljug. In this sense I also find it difficult to be forgiving towards others.

  4. Hi,

I'm just going to say that I don't understand why the last option was put in seeing as it is important for ALL sikhs to wake up at amrit vela, not only amritdharis, both my grans woke up at amrit vela every single morning before they were amritdhari and I'm sure there are a few amritdharis out there who miss amrit vela so I just don't get it!

  5. or do you believe that everyone has the ability to do good and evil and even the most evillest people you may have come across or has walked the earth, could have changed their life around to become a good person?

    I believe this one.

I believe that our true nature is good, we come from god so we must be good like him.

In gurbani it says that when we find god we merge with him, like a drop of water merges in the ocean so we become like him.

I think once we get rid of kaljug from within us, and stop being affected by kaljug outside us by becoming closer to god, we come to see and understand this no matter how bad we thought we were before.

  6. He said it's a good thing it happened because sikhs were getting too close with hindu's.

EXCUSE ME? IT'S A GOOD THING IT HAPPENED?

You need to choose your words carefully because I am unbelievably offended right now!

It is not a good thing it happened regardless of how things are now, what happened segregated sikhs and hindus as much as hitler managed to segregate germans and jews and if anyone thinks thats a good thing they need their heads examined!

When a govt is able to invoke such racism in their people it is very very wrong.

Do people not understand the concept of divide and rule and how incredibly powerful it is to the elite?

  7. So does that mean people should only press the no if they don't want to wake up or don't even make the effort even though they know they should? Or they think it's pointless to wake up.

I'm sure every single sikh wants to wake up at amrit vela seeing as our gurus emphasised the fact that we must.

If they don't want to/wish to wake up at amrit vela then how can they be sikh? (i.e if they want to go against the gurus word then they shouldn't be sikh!)

  8. I am an amritdhari and have been trying to get married for the last 8 months but what I have observed is that even most the amritdharis are after money or immigration. I mean marriages have just become a BUSINESS.

Aww this is sad, gold diggers suck! sad.gif

Well I don't have to worry about anyone trying to marry me for my money seeing as I'm bordering on poverty!

My heart goes out to all the people being hustled though!

  9. MULMANTRA: THE FUNDAMENTAL CREED OF SIKHISM

The best definition that any Sikh can give regarding the concept of God in Sikhism is to quote the Mulmantra – the fundamental creed of Sikhism, which occurs at the beginning of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

It is mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, volume 1 Japuji, the first verse:

"There exists but one God, who is called The True, The Creator, Free from fear and hate, Immortal, Not begotten, Self-Existent, Great and Compassionate."

    Sikhism is a monotheistic Religion

Sikhism enjoins its followers to practise strict monotheism. It believes in only One Supreme God who is, in the unmanifest form, called Ik Oankaar.

In the manifest form He is called Oankaar and has several attributes such as:

    Kartar – The Creator

    Akal – The Eternal

    Satnaam – The Holy Name

    Sahib – The Lord

    Parvardigar – The Cherisher

    Rahim – The Merciful

    Karim – The Benevolent

He is also called Wahe Guru – the One true God.

Besides Sikhism being strictly monotheistic, it also does not believe in Avataravada – the doctrine of incarnation. Almighty God does not incarnate Himself in what is known as Avatara. Sikhism is also strongly against idol worship.

I never called vishnu god, I said he has and will incarnate 24 times on earth. I didn't say I'd worship kalki avtar either, I worship only my gurus, god and true saints and that will never change.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji stated that Kalki avtar will become corrupt and then Mir Medhi will come and he will also become corrupted and god will kill him off by making a bug crawl in his ear.

Why would I ever want to worhip something that is not perfect? Only god is perfect therefore noone should worship any other than him and those that have his qualities and are pat of him are therefore also perfect.

Yes It will be good and righteous when kalki avtar comes and kills the evil people in this world and to that end I really can't wait. I'm sorry if that sounds so bad to anyone. But he isn't someone I would worship for the reasons outlined above.

  10. Your true self is akin to god, you are pure, you have pure virtues i.e godlike virtues, we are all a part of him.

It's only when we shed the filth of the five thieves, anger, greed, lust, envy and ego and attach ourselves to god who is pure do we begin to become connected to him and more like him again. It's pretty complicated but enlightenment is finding the truth. This mainly means discovering who you truly are.

In nutshell, when you find god you find your true nature, so you're not losing anything, just finding your true self and shedding all illusion. You will never feel happier or more self aware than you will when you are enlightened (and the drop merges with the ocean).

  11. They can cut your kachera but cannot force you to open your mouth and eat the meat and if they do, don't swallow.

Don't relent, remember prahlaad Ji and Narsingh. You do ardas aswell and pray for protection. Your parents are acting like demons like prahlaad's parents, know that your real parent is god and he loves you, these demons are just in the way of your liberation.

    Do not relent.

    Good luck.

  12. great leaders inspire others and ignite fires in others belly's

and today we dont' have much of that in our community, real leaders are ambitous confident ppl with a fire in them so that inspires others and makes others believe

SGGSJ tells us we become like the person we love.

If a giani loves the guru, he will inherit his qualities.

Also love for the guru means love for the gurus cause, anyone with enough love for the gurus cause will be able to inspire with his love and belief in the cause.

Plus, gianis at gurdwarra can use gurdwarra funds, many people want to campaign but don't have the money or means, the gurdwarra could raise this money.

  13. i need to be more clearn

when i say we reached our peak i mean 1839 was our peak as in when we were the most powerfull under ranjit singh after that we never reached that peak again

but i believe to reach that peak and go beyond it sikhs need to be lions and leaders in every aspect of life from govt to buisness to medicine to army to sports

how can we reach the top using sikh principles and inspire other sikhs using sikh principles and create a whole community of leaders who lead in

politics/govt - example having a proper sikh lead in govt who stands up against corruption and does what is morally right

    buisness

    sports

    army

    medicine

    In the UK or India?

For the UK I would say get granthi's to motivate people in the gurdwarra, have speeches and get gianis to come forward and become politicians, spiritual politicians, politicians who will be true to their word in the name of our Gurus and their status as gianis.

The gurdwarra is the true sangat, Granthis have this responsibility. our Guru's led in this task, if god has bestowed on them the blessing of their position, they should follow our gurus example and we should have at least one member of parliament from a gurdwarra, not gurcharan singh or any other singh, we need a giani- someone who shows dedication to sangat and to the guru at the gurus door.

  14. i believe for sikhs the peak of our power and strength came 1839 and after that we bin going downhill since as a community

how can we become a community filled with leaders and soldiers in each aspect of life from buisness medicine politics sports army and so on

Knock on people's doors, give them a kick up the a** and tell them to fix up look sharp! laugh.gif

i truly believe after disarmament in this country the least we should know is self defence and how to use hand held weapons (obv. not guns!)

  15. i agree that a large number of girls who live out do some extremely stupid things, but just be careful not to tar everyone with the same brush. some of us know how to behave with dignity and self respect.

Okay so agreed I'd say prob 90-99% of girls who live out do stupid things. And Genie said he didn't know a single girl who has lived out and not messed up so I'm thinking he has the right to be this weary of girls who live out, I didn't hear him branding all girls who live out to be like that he just said in his eyes that's how it is as that's what he's seen to date.

  16. In urban India a lot of sikh families treat their daughters as princess.Yet many of these Girls end up marrying in Non sikh homes.Despite so much love from their brothers and fathers they hate sikh image of turban and beard from their heart. Is their any answer why they do that?

    /quote]

Maybe they think the grass is greener, not too sure. Oh and I forgot to say that loads of silly sikh girls look for rude boys aswell, loads of muslim boys fit into this category (I know some sikh guys do aswell, i'm just saying!) even being members of gangs etc.

But like I said most will do the whole tough around guys, sweet around girlfriend thing, which is silly cuz most are scum anyway, esp the ones who are trying to convert the girl.

And it's not just the guys either, there are muslim girls getting sikh guys to marry them and convert aswell but those guys are idiots.

  17. sherepunjab93 you make some really good points, alot of sikh fathers do not treat their daughters and sons equally and this damages daughters so much and is typically carried into adulthood.

Punjabi culture's spun out of control, why couldn't most sikhs just stay god fearing like they were in the old days instead of being sexist beer guzzling chauvinists who have no respect for our gurus and all that they did and still do for us.

The fact is, if sikh girls are brought up in a family with brothers and fathers they cannot respect as they themselves have no respect for anything or anyone, they're not going to want to marry a sikh guy with the same lack of values and crappy attitude which is probably all the choice they're gonna have unless they're lucky to find a genuinely good sikh.

Girls want a guy who no matter how tough he can act is caring on the inside and who will care about and love them, a guy that they can depend on. Someone made the point that muslim guys care about their religion alot and this shows girls that they actually have the ability to care and the stability and discipline of their religion can indicate dependability in their nature.

Alot of the time though, muslim guys will try hard to get a sikh girl because they're on a mission to convert, whether they are religious or not. Even if they themselves aren't very religious, there will almost always be someone whispering in their ear, brothers, uncles, telling them it's their duty, We've all head true stories about rewards and free food for muslim boys who convert sikh girls this is a fact and happens in and around mosques and areas all over britain.

Guys will hide this agenda completely from sikh girls, acting all sensitive, caring and flattering and sikh girls who have not been educated by their fathers or brothers properly or have but are fooled by the guys sweet facade fall into the trap! It's sad but it happens so often!
