  1. I think Sharma got what he deserved. Ever since he won the election, he's been gloating about his victory. There's youtube footage of him saying "he banished" Singh from Southall. He has also been trying to inflict major damage on Singh's reputation by calling him "sectarian" and a supporter of violence. He was out of order for bringing 1984 into the election. He's also out of order for implying Gurcharan Singh is a Khalistani simply because he has the appearance of a Sikh. This man is shameless and I think he's going to have a very hard time distancing himself from the negative propoganda that came out of his camp.
  2. pjs, it's a very bitter pill to swallow. Today, there are 12,000 people who are upset at the result. That's no small achievement in light of the campaign of dirty tricks ran by Virendra Sharma. Speaking of which, for anyone interested to know, the source of the so-called "open letter" in which Virendra Sharma accused Mr Singh of being pro-Khalistani was a fine young gentleman by the name of Kam Singh Cheema - Virendra Sharma's campaign manager.
  3. The results are in and as always, we've been divided and conquered. Congrats humgareb you got what you wanted. With that, I'm out of this thread.
  4. Depends what else the packets has in it! It's ok time will tell what Gurcharan singh really is, if he actually wins. Did I also mention that he used to be a staunch labour supporter, then jumped ship, when they realised he wasn't the right candidate..? What does that show, well to me it shows he is more bothered about whether he can get elected and less about the party or policies he supports. Not a team player in my eyes. Well I guess he gets that from cameron, I mean he tries to look the part, but has not really got any solid policies, cameron couldn't even answer most question on how the Tories are actually going create funding for all these things they are promising. Someone might like to remind them that we are in a recession..!! Humgareeb, you seem to have a real problem with facts! First of all, you know nothing of the circumstances under which that decision (to defect to the Torys) was made. After the sitting MP at the time's death, a by-election was initiated in Southall. The selection process usually goes something like this: 1) hopeful candidates submit CVs 2) cv's are assessed and candidates are chosen for interview 3) 10 potential candidates are interviewed by a selection panel 4) 5 potential candidates are chosen to be put to a members vote 5) the candidate with the most votes get to be put forward as the party Parliamentary candidate for the by-election Now, step 5 is where the process fell down. Rather than selecting 5 candidates, they chose 2 - V.Sharma and a complete "unknown". I was there and believe you me, when they announced this, there was an uproar. Everyone expected Singh to at least be given a shot so he could be put to vote. Now, this is where the facts get hazy. I've heard the following reasons: - the Labour Party didn't want a bear and turban in its ranks in Parliament due to the link between that image and terrorism - MY VERDICT: plausible - Gurcharan Singh failed at the interview and his CV just wasn't good enough - MY VERDICT: completely and utterly implausible - V.Sharma did a backroom deal with Keith Vaz who was on the selection panel to ensure a clear path for himself - MY VERDICT: you can bet your bottom dollar on it! ;-)
  5. It's pretty clear that humgareeb isn't going to be convinced so why even try. Good luck to you humgareeb. I only wish you would contribute in a more constructive way. I couldn't care less if Singh ate meat and drank at a wedding and the reason is because, I'm more concerned about my OWN morality than that of other people. Anyway, I think it's obvious you have no facts only hearsay. Good luck to you. So, does anyone EXCEPT HUMGAREEB have anything positive and constructive to add? ;-)
  6. humgareeb, I respect where you're coming from. If you like Brown's policies, that's your prerogative but stating that you've seen an interview on the Sikh Channel does not mean it happened in other words "link or die fool"! I've been following the same interviews and haven't seen anything that confirms what you're saying. If I had seen it, I'd be shocked! The thing about Mahli, I can't comment on - I've no idea and I don't care to be honest. What I do know is that the Gurdwara seems to be much better off since they took over it's management BUT that's another thread I guess...
  7. Nice plug Singh# - your candidate seems to be very interesting. Good luck with the campaign!
  8. This candidate sounds interesting. I have to tip my hat to the Tories - Labour have NEVER fielded a turban-wearing Sikh candidate... Please also provide some coverage to Cllr Gurcharan Singh from Ealing Southall: www.gsinghonline.com Best of luck!
  9. Spot on Azaad! Humgareeb - well, it was only a matter of time wasn't it?! FYI: this thread is specifically about the Ealing Southall election. Also, I did make a point about this being a facts-based discussion so please stop spewing bullturds and support your nonsense claims with fact. I have a question for you in light of this: When and where EXACTLY did Gurcharan Singh claim to be an amritdhari? In fact, don't even answer that since that is not what this post is about. Since you support Lib Dems, why don't you contribute and tell us why Nigel Bakhai should get the vote in Ealing Southall?
  10. Talk about delusions of grandeur - why on Earth would he want to respond to you?! An insignificant forum poster! LOL! GTFOH! It's all well and good that you can quote from the SGGS and I applaud that. Still, I don't think Guru's ever bestowed the right upon you to judge. Any judgement will come from Vaheguru. However, I'm glad you recognised that all you have are indeed "allegations" and absolutely no facts whatsoever. Of course, if I'm wrong, please enlighten me. Please produce a single piece of evidence to back up your claims. Loser.
  11. I'm a staunch supporter of Gurcharan Singh and I'll makes no excuses for it. I've chosen to back him not just because he's a Singh (which is good enough reason alone) but primarily because of all the candidates for Ealing Southall, I believe him to be the strongest. Speaking from the perspective of somebody who has lived here my whole life. I've seen it all in this area - overcrowding, drug-crime, family breakdowns, run down streets, abandoned buildings, ill-maintained roads, etc. etc. My verdict on the main candidates is as follows: Sharma (Labour) - I used to think he was a nice enough bloke until I saw the propaganda he issued about Singh. I also used to think he cared about what his constituents thought until he refused to debate his opponents on the issues. The bottom line for me now is that this man is just a "Khabra Mark 2" i.e. an ineffectual MP and certainly not worthy of the vote. Nigel Bakhai (LibDems) - again, nice enough bloke but I think he has very little commonality with the typical Ealing Southall resident. Also, upon listening to his recent interviews, a lot of it seems to be stolen from the Lib Dem Central Office script book. Also, he says "you know" way too much lol! You already know what I think about Gurcharan Singh (Conservatives) so I won't elaborate further except to say that this man has the knowledge, the skills, the background and most of all the drive to deliver for the area. My support of this candidate has increased over the past week in light of the smear campaign attacking his character. (I'm a big fan of the underdog.) I'm sure the majority of the people on this forum have a link to Southall, I would like to emplore you all to consider Gurcharan Singh on his merits and encourage others to do the same. We have an opportunity to make history on Thursday. Anyway, those are my thoughts out of the way. What are yours? I've seen a lot of negativity elsewhere about G Singh but it all seems to be based on hearsay i.e. no evidence produced. Let's have a facts-based discussion on the matter!
  12. Aaaaaanyway, On to bigger and better things. I hope Gurcharan Singh get's it. He'd fight tooth and nail for Southall. SL EDIT: Now this is interesting, it seems humgareeb has deleted his racist post and my response to it! What a coward...
  13. I agree that we shouldn't just vote for somebody because they have the middle-name Singh. We should vote them in based on: how well they will represent the Sikh community in local and national affairs how well they will represent ALL communities in the same whether or not they will actively fight for their constituents how strong their policies are. Now here's the thing, Gurcharan Singh is strong on ALL of the above. The problem we have in Southall is that of the old school mindset where people vote for who their uncles, aunties, etc. have traditionally voted for. This has led to the Labour party taking the vote for granted. They now seem to think that they can just turn up on the day and they'll be voted in. Sad thing is, they are right! Take the previous MP Khabra as an example. In his 11 years he raised only 11 questions at Prime Minster's Question Time - that's 1 question for every year! He was allowed to get away with it and nobody took him to task at all! He was never held to account for his inaction and Sharma is the same. He has nothing to show for the past 3 years which is why: rather than fight his campaign based on policy, he choses to smear Gurcharan Singh, rather than turn up to debate Singh in person, he runs scared. Is this really what we want? I'd like to think we deserve better. I for one, am now convinced that Gurcharan Singh is our man. Here is someone with a track record for delivery. Just compare their political CVs and you'll know what I mean. Singh has done much more for Southall as a councillor than Sharma has as an MP. From a Sikhi perspective, Sharma is definitely not our man and my PERSONAL view is that as a Sikh, there is no way I could vote for Sharma against Singh and I think it's a huge shame that any of our brothers/sisters would. It's akin to the sort of inner betrayal that we had after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and after Independance. All based on in-fighting and jealousy. At the same time, I've got nothing against anyone of our panth who doesn't think that way. There are may honourable Hindus and many dishonourable Sikhs. However, that is not the case here. Regarding Gurcharan Singh's credentials as a "true" Sikh. I know he's not amritdhari but I also know that he never claimed to be one (and neither did Manjit Singh as was claimed in an earlier post). Nonetheless, this man is a true sevadar for the Sikh cause. He even campaigned in Paris for our right to wear the dastar. Now that is a fact. Sharma on the other hand, has criticised Gurdwaras for offering langar to student immigrants in India: http://southalllad.b...outhall-mp.html Sharma has also got his campain team geared up to smear Gurcharan - one of the claims is that he is a pro-Khalistani and that he held lofty celebrations when Indira (bandari) Ghandi was assassinated. Of course, there is evidence to the contrary. See the following clips from 1984. Singh comes across as a true statesman who understands the plights of Sikhs - he makes no apologies for the demonstrations yet he also doesn't overdo it either: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=NoKLVedoJLQ - this the Sharma camps failed attempt to smear him I really hope we make the right decision come May 6th.
