  1. I was on the bus this morning, looking out the window and I see an adult man, with a dhari and patka... and a cigarette in hand.

The immediate thought came in my mind that I should get off at the next stop and go back to speak to him. Then I just thought, forget it the bus is going hes not going to listen, but just as the bus doors were closing I could not bear it and got off to go find him.

There he was on a busy high street shamelessly smoking away. He did not even seem to care when he saw me, with my dumalla and open dhari, approaching. I started speaking to him in punjabi saying "sardarji tusi ki kare ho, ah ki ah?", with no sharam at all he replied, 'cigarette hai' . I said to him how can you do this with a dastaar on (dastar automatically came out of my mouth). And with complete confidence his gobsmacking reply was 'Eh dastaar nai hai, patka hai'! I said, 'Kes ta rakhe ne, kara ta hai' (a gold 'kara' was on the same hand with which he was holding the cigarette).

I said to him do you not know what Sikhi says about this? While blowing smoke into my face he just mumbled away and then told me to just go and get on with my own business. I replied that I cannot do this as you have taken my Guru's roop and are doing badnaami of it. I recalled to him the sakhi of Guru Sahib's ghora but of course he did not care. After a while he just chucked his cigarette away and walked into a shop which I think was his.

I bore his insulting attitude as I believe our approach, especially the first approach should be one of pyar (but of course firmness) and the giving benefit of the doubt. I think if I see him again I will not be taking this approach.

Some important points to take away from this:

-A guy with sikhi saroop is smoking on a busy high street with no care that this is wrong

-This street has a fair amount of Sikhs walking up and down it, the confidence with which he is openly smoking tells me that other Sikhs must not be confronting him.

-No sharam even infront of someone who clearly looks amritdhari.

The purpose of me posting this is mainly to say, if you see something like this, make sure you don't just ignore it but give the person a piece of your mind. At the very least we must make sure that such people do not dare smoke out in public like this, or realise they must get rid of all outward displays of Sikhi if they insist on continuing. I had to walk the rest of the way home but I just could not tolerate what I saw. It is our duty to make such people account for themselves.

    Very good approach,fantastic veerji.

Can I ask where did this happen and what shop was it please?

  2. The video is NOT from original poster which has ALL suspect negative comments on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnLJ1yGbggA

So called shear Punjabi need a life & education

I would like to remind you, that none of our guru sahibs, had Anand Karaj Marriages and the Anand Karaj Act was passed in 1909, 200 years after the passing on of Guru Gobind Singh ji.

It can be argued therefore, that had guru Sahib, wanted us to have Anand Karaj marriages, he would have in fact introduced them. Extremist groups, trying to force their will on people, who gave you the right and the authority, (been hearing voices again, have we!)

About the video: Cyber bullying an aunty...oh how courageous of you

About the situation: People get married to white christians n brown hindus, etc all the time and nothing ever happens. A NIGERIAN Christian. Oh yeaaa i forgot he's black...let's just point that out because of course skin colour is soooo important...Racist hypocrites who complain when people are racist against you and yet behave the same way. These people aren't just intolerant to other faiths and races. They're intolerant to pe

    Jasminedhaliwal13 10 hours ago

Yeah she said it straight up. I been to so many weddings where a none Sikh person marries a Sikh person. They happen all the time, why would these people take so much offense. Honestly this is getting way out of hand.

    Chanprit 12 hours ago

good for her!!! she told them straight, whoever posted this video should be well ashamed of themselves!!

Maharajah Ranjeet Singh received 50 lashes for marrying a non Sikh.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji refused to get married the Hindu way and wrote on a piece of paper ' Ik Onkaar, Sat Gur Prasaad '. This is where Gurbani started, this is the start of the Anand Karaj and set the way for Sikhs to be married as such.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji closed the chapter by giving out in one of his 52 Hukams, a Sikh girl should not be given to a clean shaven ( non Sikh ).

All Sikhs were meant to Amrithdari, there was not meant to be no middle ground but over the years, we as a community have allowed this to happen.

  3. I have got a few free weights, maximum weight i have is 20kg

thats more than enough, its all about form and make sure when your lifting do 2 seconds up and 2 seconds down.

I highly reccomend scoobysworkshop. Just google it and you will see the link. He has a full training regime from beginners to advanced. Everything he teaches can be done at home without spending money on the gym. Its all good home based training. I highly recommend you also increase your protein intake. I recommend taking in 1.5grams of protein per pound of your body weight. you can google convert kilos to pounds and then calculate yourself how much protein you need to take. Although scoobysworkshop will have everything you need.

As per above, do not move onto free weights until you can lift your own weight. If you can do atleast 10 good slow push ups and pull up then you may move on to light weights

  4. We we do Ardaas we are meant to ask for love for Waheguru. That our love for Gurbani and Waheguru increases because where Waheguru is, happiness and peace follow. We are not meant to start listing thanks to people that have made so much in contributions to whatever cause, we are not to ask for materialistic things. Yes Wahegurus Will is the final call but with Wahegurus Grace, we can be forgiven and a better life will be granted if we ask for forgiveness with a full and true heart and only Waheguru will know when you are heart-fully honest. I hope I answered what you needed.

    Bhull chukk maaf karni

  5. ****SIKH DISCUSSION GROUP****

A regular discussion group for young adults aged 20+ is being started up in Seven Kings Gurdwara (Sri Guru Singh Sabha London East). The idea for the group came into being after the realisation of the lack of any Gurdwara events specifically catered towards young Sikh professionals and students.

We aim to create an open minded and non-judgemental space where we can exchange ideas and learn from each other. Topics will range from; all aspects of spirituality, professional life, politics, etc. and anything put forward by attendees.

This group is not aimed at any particular mindset or type of Sikh - the very reasoning behind a discussion group is that there are many diverse people with different viewpoints.

We are still in the early stages and will be holding a preliminary meeting this Wednesday 04/07/2012 at Seven Kings Gurdwara, 722/730 High Road, Seven Kings, Ilford, Essex IG3 8SX. The meeting will be held in one of the classrooms, we will put signs up in the Gurdwara on the day.

Please contact 07940200673 for further information.

We hope to see you there!

    what time please?

  6. I agree with what you have said, especially the meat thing. Its scientific fact that the human body cannot breakdown maas completely, Waheguru never intended that maas be eaten by hey ho. Each to their own. In regards to the dairy products, this is true but if people wish to eat the dairy stuff I recommend not eating it after 5pm and also go for the lower fat options.

  7. dear brother sister. Like all the above quotes. Falling down is not failing. Not getting back up is failing. If Waheguru and help and ex class druggie like me, Waheguru can most certainly help you as well. The only thing I cay advise is to never give up keep going forward. If one door closes, don't keep staring at the one closed door because you may miss out on the doors which opened.

  8. @ Singher23

Get off your highhorse. What makes you think I wouldn't befriend someone because of what caste they come from?

What is wrong with jatts continuing to be jatts? Is it a crime now to want to preserve your own people?

I take it your not a Sikh then because to be called a Sikh one must follow the teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. That includes taking Amrit so when you take Amrit and become Gursikh, you automatically abolish the caste system. Caste is a Hindu string not a Sikhi teaching. To believe its ok to stay within caste is to go against Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Race is realty I'm afraid. It's not up for debate, it's an unchanging thing. We don't have to treat people badly just because of the caste they were born in; but that doesn't mean we should all mix together and end up like what? End up like Brazil? A supposed "post-racial" society in which the caste system continues in another form.

This isn't about superior/inferior dichtonomies but about whether the envisioned model of society actually works.

    caste is not race

  9. Fateh

I agree with you on the sakhi about the ranjits, i have heard this loads of times.

Educated, im sorry im not on your par veer ji, im not going to argue with you. So this will be my last post on the matter.

If this is not your believe then thats fine at the end of the day, you are my sikh brother and i respect you regardless.

    Fateh

Veerji, you humbled with this comment. I am sorry for coming across aggressive. Sincere apologies. This way of thinking if beautiful. You are also my Sikh my brother, if you accept me as one. I have sent you a private message, please do read

The message to comprehend and conveyed very clearly here is

The most important point to note in this episode is that even the firanghees understood that by cutting his hair, a Sikh breaks his relationship to Guru Nanak Dev ji.

yes veerji, well said, apologies for going way off the topic itself, one thing led to another.

  10. Jatkha tilak, beadbi...

Lol what ever you say, talk about loosing traditions.

What you reffer to beadbi is what the british took from us.

Sikhi is against rituals and what is jhatka for tilak, its a baseless ritual, empty and no need for it all, never was. Please dont lol, only reply is you actually wish to have an educated debate and exchange knowledge and wisdom to help your fellow Sikhs. Dont laugh at them because you may know something different, this is not the Sikhi way

Maharaja Ranjit Singh also put gold on Harmander Sahib , thas y his children did not remain

I never knew that one, thanks Ji, something new I learnt. Thank you :0 No I am not being sarcastic so please do not think that ( just in case )

  11. You know what though, it was meant to happen. I read many a times form different sources of information and books that Guru Gobind Singh Ji said that if anyone makes a shrine in my name, their children will perish. Now Maharaja Ranjit Singh not only once went against Khalsa by marrying a Muslim and then received 50 lashes by the order of Akali Phula Singh, fair enough he apologised and moved but then Hazur Sahib was built by the orders of Maharaja Ranjit Singh as well for Guru Gobind Singh Ji and they have a photo of Guru Gobind Singh Ji on the walls above Guru Granth Sahib Ji maharaaj, the events following this is pretty evident of how Ranjit Singhs children perished for their fathers acts as per Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Beadbi still happens with the jhatka tilak ( Hindu ritual which was placed by the mahants when in late 1800s the Singhs and Kaurs fled to jungles to avoid violent conflict.

  12. While I fully believe in sikh sovereignty, I still believe in Khalsa Raj over Khalistan. I believe Khalsa Raj takes precedence over Khalistan (peace of land be it Punjab/himachal/rajasthan/parts of pakistan).

Looking at things from socio-political aspect, all promises were given to us and broken afterwards and betrayal we went through...We definitely deserve whatever was promised to us and acknowledge the foundation of khalistan was laid when darbar sahib was attacked.

But when we look at things from strictly prophecy point of view its Khalsa Raj we are given Hakum by guru sahiban. That should take precedence over khalistan.

Some may argue in order to have khalsa raj, you have to have Khalistan. But that's not necessarily true.

Some may argue once you have khalistan, we would automatically have Khalsa Raj...again not true.

Khalsa belongs to whole world, cannot be limited to one country.

Once we have Khalistan, we cannot assume we automatically have - Khalsa Raj.

Usually after making country, whole other baggage of problems comes along with it. I cannot even begin to imagine that community which cannot even manage gurdwara properly, will somehow manage the country and it be somehow sachkhand with naam abhyasi gursikhs doing only naam/jaap/tap/seva etc etc. Sachkhand is what you make anywhere/anyplace.

I can just imagine in new khalistan, instead of punjab police abusing local it be panthic police and their holier than thou attitude on streets.

However, with all of above being said, we should keep fighting for sikh sovereignty(recent success- The Anand Karaj ACT) and equal rights for all . Being an country inside country- India is not just Oxymoron, its quite possible.

Just like UP or Kashmir, center has very little influence in those state. The reason we let center have influence in punjab because of our spineless leaders and spineless/ stubborn public keep voting for crooks(Congress/Akaali Dal).

Khalsa should leave the head ache of being trans national corporate country based on capitalism to crook politicians and just focus on individual jevan and be true sant-sipahi.

Khalistan = solution to some of the problems panth faces, one step fwd, two step backwards.

Khalsa Raj = solution to all problems as its divine hakum.

Very well said but I must add, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale said ' The Khalsa will rule when we all become Khalsa ' - Lets keep doing our Ardaas for out brothers who are trying to get back on the path properly and for ourselves as well, that Waheguru gives us the passion to keep our love and strength for Sikhi.

Why so many 'moderate' Sikhs are against Khalistan is due to two main reasons, one ignorance, the other lack of love for Sikhi.

Ignorance is to live and exist happily in the false paradise(or hell) of illusion, not sach. These people have no idea of the blessings awaiting us if we can achieve Khalistan. It reminds me of the story of Maharaja Duleep Singh. As the blue-eyed boy of Queen Victoria, unaware and ignorant that he was actually the displaced ruler of Panjab that had been shipped to UK , he once at a country club boasted to an English man that he was the happiest man in the world! However, many years later, when his mother Maharani Jind Kaur was brought to England and was secretly filling him with this truth of who he really was, he then met the same friend and said.... now I am the saddest man in the world!. Sach makes us aware of how much of hardships we suffered at the hands of the Moghuls and how with a million difficulties we slowly managed to rise up to become a nation and how that was stolen from us and how it is waiting to be restored back to us. Sach makes us aware of the strengths we possess that we could exercise to make Khalistan once it is achieved to be a great nation that will help to further the shan of Sikhi and guarantee Sikh raj. Ignorance however spawns inconfidence, confusion and low self esteem.

Lack of love for Sikhi makes us worry more about our mortgages, family, jobs , friends and work than about Sikhi. Those who love Sikhi deeply would easily recognise the value and importance of raj looking after dharam and feel the deep pain of raj having being stolen from us and will daily pray for Raj to be restored to us.Guru roop Khalsa Panth is the custodian of Sikhi together with SGGS and DSSS and hence pangs for raj to be delivered back to us.

As our love for Sikhi increases we desire Sikhi tp spread everywhere in the universe and for Sikhi to have a homeland of Khalsa Raj. In the house of Gurujee anything is possible. ''Sache sahiba kya nahi ghar tereh'' We have to pray , keep our faith and do everything it takes for Khalsa raj no matter how long it takes. Once we have the resolve it becomes a matter of when, not if.

    T

    Apologies, * brothers and sisters ! :)

  13. Thanks for sharing your story bhajee.

Anytime. If you live near barking Gurudwara and fancy meeting up. Let me know and I will be more than happy to introduce you to my wife and kids. I mean if your fellow Sikh brothers and sisters can't help you then who will. It's a duty being a Sikh to help when someone requests it. Take care

  14. Gurfateh Gurmukh pyaario
