  1. The above statement is halarious - why???

Because you obviously didnt attend the program, thats why ... or you dont know who gurmeet singh is.

Gurmeet Singh didnt do katha yesterday and nor was he at the program....

    As stated below

Bhai sahib nachattar singh ji and gyani satnaam singh ji

the kirtanees were: bhai sukhjinder singh ji and jatha and also bhai Gurmej singh ji and jatha

So in future, please do some research and stop trying to mess this thread up. If you have issues then resolved them with the person and not on a public forum.

I never sed i attended the program just sed that it was a great program considering the sant it is honouring. I am just really <Edited> off at the fact the Gurmeet Singh is still doing katha around the UK (Repreisneting Taksal) after being caught doing the most disgusting kureht ever? Why has Taksal UK allowed this to contunie? To date i have never in my life felt more disgraced to be a sikh until i heard about him. It makes me feel sick. This is what our Sikh organizatioons have come to?

  2. Das was just wondering how is the nihanga wala kachhera is different from the usual ones . I heard its longer past the knees , but why so ?

Long kacheras have always been historically worn, as you can see of puraaton paintings. Long kacheras provided modesty and also made it more comfortable when riding horses. The only reason why we only see nihangs with long kacheras in the modern era is because they are the only sikhs left that still use horses.

Akali Baba Deep Singh was the first jathedaar of Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal, he was very close to Guru Gobind Singh Ji and was well versed in Gurbani, so much that Guru Gobind Singh Ji decided to start a school (Taksal) to teach the recitation of Gurbani he requested that Akali Baba Deep Singh also become the first jathedaar of the newly made Taksaal.

Akali Baba Deep Singh then started off the lineage of teaching Gurbani Santhiyaa to the students of the new Taksaal. Akali Baba Deep Singh ji gave shaheedi (head in hand) re-capturing Harimandir sahib and then the jathedaari of Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal was passed to Akali Baba Gurbaksh Singh, because Akali Baba Gurbaksh Singh was the leader of the Tarna Dal he then also became the jathedaar of the Taksaal.

What was Baba Deep Singh Jee's age when He defended Sri Harmandir Sahib?

When Baba Jee was defending Sri Harmandir Sahib, was he the mukhee of Damdami Taksaal?

"One day Brahm Giani Baba Thakur Singh Ji wanted to go and see Brahm Giani Baba Kirtan Singh and organised his jatha to go along with him, one of the singhs in the jatha said, whi do you want to go and see the Nihang Singhs, they are dirty, Brahm Giani Baba Thakur Singh Ji replied, we are also Nihang Singhs...Who was Baba Deep Singh!"

  6. The Kesh Panj Shastar are not part of the original Khalsa Rehit, they came into existance about a century after.

The Panj Shastar Rehit of carrying 5 weapons isnt specific to certain weapons, they can be anything. In olden times it would be something like 2 tulwars, a Ramjunga, Teer Kamaan, Pash, Katar. But even the 5 would be a bare minimum, if you study old photos you will see that the Singhs were armed to the teeth, tanked with char aina armour, sheilds, chakars on dumalas, necks, shoulders, biceps, and wrists, pistols, small daggers, bagh nakhas, and so on

Each warrior has his own particular skill level and ability, therefore he would carry weapons that compliment his fighting style. Depending on the environment and threat level, the Singhs would adopt a Jang readiness, for example always carrying a naked tulwar and not allowing people withing certain distances.

To say that there is one set combination of weapons is incorrect, there are litterally thousands of different weapons in the indo persian arsenal, and to just extract a set 5 would be detrimental to the armies as each situation in a war requires varying tactics employed by using varying weapons.

In todays day and age, this maryada means nothing to majority of Sikhs as they all carry weapons for show without knowing how to use them.

So what do say about Bhai Nand Lal Jis bani "Panj Shastar Parvaan" im sure that was written at time of Guru Gobind SIngh ji i.e. his main kavi Bhai Nand Lal.

I was pointed out something very interesting by a nihang singh from birmingham, if you look at a set of kesh panj shastar when they are made together i.e. with chain or torra wire the complete 5 shastar can act like a kamandki. A flange style mace.

  7. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA!WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

At the time of taking bath we should wear kacha and take bath???? Then how we can apply soap at that portion??

Sikhism has a lot to do with common sense, the kachera is to keep modesty, to keep your dignity. Because we live in western world we are use to idea of bathing undressed but in india for hundreds of years people are use to bathing while being covered up as not everyone had baths or showers on their homes.

  9. Great feature that was on Sikhnet.com

If you got an iphone, you can sync up your yahoo calender on to that and get the dates on your iphone too!

    http://www.sikhnet.c...s-your-calendar

WARNING - These dates are incorrect especially those relating to Gurpurabs etc as they are not folllowing the original calander used at the time of these events, the times of our Guru sahibs. Because of this calander sikhs are mistakenly celebrating or commemorating totally incorrect dates.

Can anyone on this board post a calander based on Bikrami system (Calander used by our Guru sahibs and in ancient times)

  10. Khalsa aid's partner in Punjab is Gurmat Gian missionary college, Ludhiana.

Gurmat Gian missioanry college does not obey sikh rehat maryada because of their opposition

to banis of Nitnem. Gurnindak Inder ghagga was on their teaching staff. They are camp followers of

Spokesman newspaper and spokesman is on record disputing authenticity of Guru Granth sahib also.

What type of service they will they give in Punjab when their partners are not genuine.

Khalsa aid may not be aware of credentials of their partner and it is suggested that they

should probe background of their partners.

I have tried to ask this earlier but no proper reply from them..

Thanks for this information GPS i would be really kicking myself if i had donated to them. Mahakal somebody else suggested GurbaniAnywhere to me i have recently started to use their Windows mobile version and it is amazing. I think i may donate to them as they are really producing high quality software and i feel the money is going to good use as you can see the fruits of their labour. Thanks for everyones response.

  11. SikhNet-Logo-scale2.jpg

I wanted some advice from sangat i was thinking of giving my dasvandh to sikhnet but some one just put a little doubt in my mind regarding what they are actually doing with such a large sum of money. Personally i do think its a lot to ask for considering they are just providing an online portal / service. Has anyone here going to give dasvandh to some seva project if so please tell me other honest projects that are helping the sikh community or the khalsa panth.

I don't see the problem with mentioning the FACT that Bhagat Singh was a Sandhu, I really don't understand where caste comes into the equation. Jatts are not a caste but a ethnic tribal group, divided into clans, much like the Pashtuns. I don't see the problem with mentioning someone's ethnic/clan origin?

Look whether you like it or not, Jatts have distinct social, cultural and ethnic traits, even the Gurus maintained their Khatri marriage customs/traditions. Cultural heritages can be maintained without discriminating against others, things like separate gurdwaras in villages based on caste/ethnic/social lines is very wrong, and any other such practices that Guru Ji was against.

As for Jatt Sikhs making most of the Kurbani, well if I'm being honest, it's partially true. Speaking from first hand experience of Khalistani Sikhs in Punjab during the 80's, the movement was Jatt Sikh led and predominantly Jatt Sikh in support and numbers, this is not to discredit or lessen the contribution of other great Sikh Shaheeds were not from a Jatt background, I want to make this point very clear.

But I take the point, if it was repeated unnecessarily, then I find that rather pointless and annoying.

Here is my understanding of the entire situation....

The most shaheedian have been done by the Khalsa, who dont belong to any caste. Before 1984 90% of all shaheedian were done by the khalsa army. In order to become a true khalsa warrior you must forget what you know i.e. farming to understand warfare, if we had jats (term used as reference to a farmer) stratgising warfare we wouldnt be here right now. Yes if i wanted to grow corn or wheat i would most defitantley contact a farmer...do you see where i am going with this...i am not trying to be disrespectful...far from it. I am just trying to making a point that once you take Khandeh da Amrit your entire profession, lineage, background and society changes. If not then we can never fight as one unit on the battlefield.

    Wise up...

The above is just my knowledge, you dont have to agree with it..

  13. Leather, Hide products have been used for hundreds of years in india and as part of ancient sikh way of life. For example hide water carriers to carry water to drink or hide shields that many ancient sikh warriors used in battle.

Items such as these have always been used in every day life. Some might dissagree...ok....if we were to ban or stop the wearing or using of leather/hide items then 90% of traditional sikh musical culture (Gurmat Sangeet) would have to die.

Yes...dilruba, taus tabla are just a few that are made using animal hide......the famous ranjeet nagara also made of animal hide....the chaur sahib made from animal hair...

Just something to think about :)
