1. My dad has told me there was a sign up saying "Any persons under the influence of Alcohol or tobacco are not permitted to enter this room" outside the room where the drinking was taking place.

Any idea where my dad can go to take amrit again?

    134743

theres an amritsanchar in leicester on the weekend, Saturday 26th at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara, East Park Road.

Im not sure on the time.. Maybe a local can post the details??

If he has learned his errors then maharaj will do kirpa on him if he goes for pesh and admits to Guru Godind Singh Ji his mistakes!

i do Ardaas for him and all the other people on the day that they will wake up and see what they did was wrong and may Maharaj Bless them With SIKHI! pray.gif

  2. Stupid to avoid halal?

    Ok!

    thumbs up to you! :TH:

Stupid not to know the difference? Again big up to you!

U respect the hukhamnama of the akaal takht. Ok. I respect you for that. Thats fine, so in a few yrs when another twat comes in and makes the ruling its ok to serve meat in the Gurdwara, u be up for it.

    Again, safe bro!

    Enjoy your sikhi.

  3. kurtas are you amritdhari?

IF you are, where did you take your amrit from? coz as far as i know, in mine my panj said no eggs, and i didnt question stupid stuff like fertilised or non fertilised! Thats just stupid.

    Sorry but it is.

if you want to eat eggs then eat them! UR choice but please, dont bring up stupid things like that which will make people who think about it, eat them!

when i wasnt amritdhari used to eat meat, but never halal. I can walk into a Halal meat shop and ask, is this meat halal as i dnt eat halal, I GUARENTEE the guy would say no it isnt. WHY? I think it COULD be because!!!! he wants to make some money!

If an egg isnt given the opportunity to fertilise then obviously it becomes non fertilised.

If you have questions like your statements, i say you go and visit panj singh. Amritsanchar in lesta on the 26th? go there that day and consult the panj. Ask them and discuss then let us know the response!

Excellent Replies Kurtas, with sound reasoned logic!

  5. You can still use Bani but not Gurkmukhi - use the times new roman instead if you want to use a Bani qoute.

Also if your saying a pic is bad of Gurus - which we dont actually know is he image of Guru ji! just someones painting interpretation!! then wouldnt kids in Bana be the same??

ie, The Khalsa, (Bana) is the image of Guru Gobind Singh Ji no? Therefore you would still be doing beadbi of him!!

Just thought id point that out since you saying you cant use Gurus Image - painting, but can use humans... its really the same thing since Guru Gobind Singh Ji said theres no difference between him and His Khalsa.

    Sorry if iv offended anyone...

    Waheguruji Ka khalsa

    Waheguruji Ki Fateh!

Its great job that you are doing about calender.... my views are that you should try to refrain from using bani or guru saabs picture on it as calender is meant to be used for a year and then some people throw it away or keep it in place where the bani gets disrespected..... If you really want to add bani make sure to educate people to dispose of the calender in respectful manner...

  6. why does everyone think the rain is bad?! rolleyes.gif I LOVE THE RAINNNNNN!!!!    :umm:

    hehehehe!!

the event woz amazing!!! great seva done by the organisers! keep it up  :umm:  d_oh.gif   :@

    131860

rain is wicked BUT when ya already got a cold!! it no good for ya sick record... which u need for sikhi events when u cnt get a day of using anual leave... :e:

  7. Just like to give my views on the event! lol well thought i would since i dont agree to the burning of stuff!!

i thought it was really good!! i spoke to alot of people (not people that i know!) but people that wanted to know why we were there etc and they learned alot of new things! i infact learned more stuff talking to other Sikhs at the event!

Well done to the sevadars! seriously! the only thing that could have made it better was some sun!!! as opposed to rain!! but still! worth going and im glad i failed my assignment to go!! blush.gif :TH:

Just a benti tho... off record to the singhs in Bana there... Please if you wear Bana then be willing to speak to people! and not just hide away! I saw alot of singhs walk away from talking to people as they didnt want to be doing that seva! Bana is important! if you see injustice u stand up! if people approach you then u have a duty to speak to them! thats why its so effective! When you wear Bana, people recognise you highly! they can see it! please, learn your history and teach others! otherwise ur Bana is just material you wear as a fashion statement to look good.

(apologies if i have offended anyone, i just thought its an important thing to mention especially at these types of events, non sikhs come to learn, if your in Bana they will want to see or speak to you as they recognise you as someone important! therefore we must take the steps to meet their expectations!)

    Still a wicked day!

oh and the langar from the van!! WAS WICKED!

  9. One humble benti...

Please ensure when talking about Nov 1984 - we refer to it as the Nov 1984 Anti Sikh POGROMS.

These were not two way created riots, (RIOTS = A wild or turbulent disturbance created by a large number of people.)

But in face Government sponsered ANTI SIKH POGROMS - POGROM = An organised, often officially encouraged massacre or persecution of a minority group.

We don't want to undercut the events by not stating what they are.

Other than that, all the best, hope as many of us as possible can make it!

  14. that police wala killed 400 sikhs on vaisakhi day

DUH!!! who wudnt stand 4 that

    129023

DUH. I think you need to do some research.

He did not kill Scott, he killed Sanders a junior officer. He shot the wrong person. So he was hung.

    129035

    So mistakes happen?

he cut his hair? ok, as someone said, so did Udham Singh. He also had an affair did he not?

Still in my opinion both good guys!

Hungre strike, so what. He refused to eat in jail, good! Guru Nanak Dev Ji also refused to eat from a villiage, there is sakhi about it when Bhai Mardana wanted something to eat from villiage on the way to their desired location. Guru Nanak Dev ji instructed him that he may eat and get clothes if he wish but not to bring back anything for himself (Guru Ji).

Both at the time hadnt eaten for a period and needed both food and clothes

  15. i think most people have over looked one thing; the requirements of sitting with maharaj.  I cant remember them all so i'll recommend giani thakur singhs katha on jap ji sahib, in the first few parts he explains (using gurbani) who should and shouldnt sit on tabyia.

    128899

For those of us who havent heard can you enlighten us?

  16. To avoid conflict PLEASE dnt know one take offence!! its just a general question!!

though i seen loads of bibis wearing dastar and is looks wicked!!

    Yea I'm confused as well.

The notion of this post is to compromise, not to distinguish between whether kes should be a kakaar or keski a kakaar. Ofcourse admin is gonna close this topic if it turns into another debate between kes and keski

If Guru Nanak gave men and women equal status in Sikhi, then why do only men wear a dastaar?

    Sikhi, Turban and Woman

Once, I met a Western lady in Sydney and she asked me about my religion prompted by my Turban. I tried to explain to her as much as possible. I share a comment she made to me.

“So Muslims cover their women with Burka and Sikhs cover their men by a Turban”

This really made me think. I had thought all these years that we are treated equally in Sikh religion but what is this. I started thinking. The following points came to my mind -

    a) In Sikh Religion all rules are common between man and woman. Women enjoy as much as spiritual bliss as would a man. Then why should a man wear a turban and woman need not? Is it something to do with spirituality, custom, circumstances, social behaviour?

    b) A man passes through challenging times because of his turban. Over a period of time, a man becomes strong defending his turban and his style of dressing up. He also becomes proud as he has to defend himself all the time and conduct with some self-esteem – just to justify why he is turbaned.

    c) How can a woman who has always lived like any other female in the society with freedom to do whatever with her hair (pony tail, jhurra, colouring, trimming, waxing, etc) ever understand the psychology of a Sikh turbaned man and what he passes through in daily life? How can she ever be his partner or companion, when she has herself not been strengthened over the years? So, I am not surprised when Sikh girls choose non-Sikhs boys in marriage.

    d) Many Sikh Girls marry muslim boys and live the rest of their lives wearing burkas. Muslims are the fastest growing religion of the world and I have seen Muslim women fiercely defend wearing of the Burka. So, if we are logically consistent and transparent about the universal applicability of our Turbans, why our Sikh women will not wear a turban with pride. Afterall, American sikh women conduct themselves with such dignity and feminine grace, though wearing a Turban.

    e) Can a Female who enjoys all the freedom like any other neighboring woman of non-Sikh religion impart Sikh values to her child. Let me clarify, can a woman who shaves her legs, waxes her face and trims her eye-brows tell her son not to trim his beard. Can such a woman tell her husband not to wear a Topi or a baseball cap?

    f) Since the times of Guru Nanak, woman were accorded equality in spirituality. Is Turban something to do with our concept of spirituality. I am not sure, but from history I understand that during the bad times for the Sikhs, the head of the woman was also priced as the head of a young sikh teenager, as both used to be turbaned. Is this True? Also, some one mentioned that before 1921 all amritdhari women were also advised to wear a turban. Is this true?

    g) American sikh women wear a turban and are so steadfast in their faith. Why did Yogiji insist that Sikh women wear a Turban? Even in India, many Groups ask their women to wear a Turban?

    128550

  17. This would only be acceptable if there was unanimous agreement that keski was essential, but this is not the case in reality.

This approach would be fine for the proponents of keski, as no keski proponent suggests kesh is not neccessary, but on the other side, there are those that state kesh is a kakkar who think that as a result keski is not neccessary.

In this manner, it would in essence be no different to suggesting full on that keski and not kesh is kakkar.

    128540

Bro it says keep a keski aswel!!!! no need for the complicated stuf man! u even confused me!!!!!

its sayin wear a keski - which for some would be there their dastar!! lol

  18. Shin Kin is a waste of time. Take up boxing and also attend wrestling classes.

I have seen many guys who do Shin Kin get good shithar from people without any real martial art skills.

    128518

Remember that its the fighter not the art!

theres a story of a guy in china, he was at the Shaolin Temple and studied various styles for years and years. To gain entry to the world, you had to pass a test - your skill of Kung Fu. Unfortunatly he could never pass and would always lose his fights. He never once one!

One day he sat on the stairs in the gardens and saw a mantis fighting a grasshopper, grass hoppers are MUCH bigger. the mantis won. He then studied the mantis incorprating its attacks into human possibilities. he then won all his fights! Even against multiple opponents.

This is a true story, its how Seven Star Praying Mantis (the style came around).

Therefore you can see, this guy learned many styles but certain ones did not work for him.

I havent done shin kin but would like to check it out.

iv done both the vidiya and gatkha, i much prefer the vidiya as it teached you to use your hands aswel! so far in gatkha all i learned was how to use a large sized shastar! Now how often am i going to be walking down the street with a 3ft stick? Not likely!

Therefore its good to learn another art aswel. Shin Kin is fine, nothing wrong with it. If its not appropriate for you then dont learn it but dont knock the art. ANY true martial artist will say the same, if you respect the arts u will know its not the art, but the fighter!!

Boxers cant kick, iv beat them using kicks, kick boxers use elbows, they have beaten me with that! Grapplers floor fight, im not trained in that so again lost her! But then martial aritist such as karate who use square foot motions, i have beaten as they have no flexibility in ur motions!!

    ========

    anonosingh Posted Today, 12:56 PM

    forget shin kin

learn some gatka or shaster vidhiya - at least if u go to a proper ustaad u will learn get some proper vidhiya - n not the watered down version

    ========

No offence here or to start an argument with ANYONE!! but the only person who teached Shastar Vidiya, u all hate! lol so in that case might be worth takin up shin kin instead JUST to spite him as he hates it! lol

me personally, i would still go and train from him, its down to personal opinion.

If iv offended anyone, please forgive me!
