  1. Erm here's one we took (with the aid of a hastly purchased disposable camera - due to technical difficulties with the digi one - ie we left it at home :-)
  2. The address amardeep_bassey@mrn.co.uk didnt bounce for me when I sent a probe mail. If that was the one you tried - might be worth trying again.
  3. Oh thats a Freudian slip if ever I made one. I meant a good presence :-)
  4. Details on how to get to Dasmesh Darbar via public transport; courtesy of Harjinder Singh Khalsa: "it's an easy walk from East Ham station (Sibley Grove, Browning Rd, Roseberry Ave) and if you come by train from Liverpool St or Stratfield, get off at Manor Park and go down Station Rd and the East Ham High Street and after about 10 minutes walk turn left into Roseberry Ave." Please do try and attend - this media visibility is important. Sikhs met with the Met. Police after the Sikh Lobby Day at New Scotland Yard and expressed our concerns. This is a welcome response from the Met. Police.
  5. The Metropolitian Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair will visit Dasmesh Darbar Gurdwara, Roseberry Ave. in East London tomorrow, Friday 15th July at 2pm. He will be there to reassure the Sikh community in full view of the media. This is a direct consequence of the recent meeting held with the Met. Police by Sikhs and continued pressure from Sikh organisations. After his address to the sangat he will be handed a written record of the Sikh community's concerns. If you can make it please try and attend. Please inform other people to attend; a god presence is essential.
  6. Sorry, I can't work out from which paper this article is scanned from. Could someone please post which newspaper and the date it was printed. Page number would be useful too. Also could someone confirm that I'm reading the email address correctly as amardeep_bassey@mrn.co.uk It goes with out saying that the article is just mostly sensationalist tabloid gurge; using their favourite tactics of big headlines with words like "fanatics" and references to "Sinister" web sites. Some right of redress might be appropriate. Support the Respect for Guru Ji Campaign.
  7. I managed to get most of it; please see my posting under thread http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=12378 Please note my provisio's about the files and my inability to multi task effeciently to get a perfect recording. Well worth a listen.
  8. Technical note: if anyone wants to download and do the necessary splicing and dicing and size reduction etc before I get a chance then you can grab both files in a tarball from http://june84.org/audio/akash.tar For you info; in case it helps: All done under Linux; The stream was captured using mplayer, The resulting ASF was converted to WAV via mplayer LAME was used to encode the WAV to mp3 Let me know and I'll arrange for june84.org to host the resulting file; or upload it to somewhere else suitable. Share and enjoy. Inform and educate.
  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh In between trying to catch Paaji on News24 (hopefully I'll be able to put a recording of that up soon), responding to emails and a million other things I managed to capture the network stream from Akash Radio's net feed. Before giving the URI's to listen or download the captures, I just wanted to say that I haven't had time to cut/paste, dice/slice the recordings so they are complete with Adverts etc. Also I missed the beginning of the show; which was just a lead in by the presenter. Additionally I had a network drop after about 20 minutes in to the show; so there is a small break while I resumed the connection. Hence why there are 2 files. Additionally I had to do quite a bit of converting to change them from a Windows format ASF feed (I'm not a windows user) into MP3 format, consequently the files are quite big. If you want to wait I will be able to remove Ads and compress into smaller files later tonight and reload the updated files. So given all the above - here are the recordings: http://june84.org/audio/akash-R4G-part1.mp3 http://june84.org/audio/akash-R4G-part2.mp3 Part 1 is 13Mb in size - approx first 18 minutes Part 2 is 53 Mb in size - approx last 1h and 16 minutes Apologies for not getting the whole thing and the size, etc. Marfi. Given all of the that - it was a very good discussion. And worth listening to. As for the last guy that phoned in (Gurmukh Singh) - what a joker!! Sigh!
  10. Lord Ahmed in an email response has stated that he made an inadvertant mistake. In an email exchange with Ranjit Singh, he says: "Dear Ranjit, Thank you for your email. I would be obliged if you could let every one know that my interview was slip of tongue and I apologise for offending my Sikh brothers and sisters , whom I love and respect dearly Kind Regards Nazir Ahmed" It has been suggested that he issue a statement to this affect. Please ensure that we report all inaccuracies so that appropriate steps can be taken to rectify them.
  11. The Sikh Federation will be interviewed on BBC News 24 at 8:30pm today (Wed 13th July 2005) to discuss the attacks against Sikhs as a result of the London bomb blasts. This is the result of intensive lobbying and awareness raising at many levels. Can everyone please keep up the pressure. Please tune in. Internet users should (might - I'm not sure) be able to catch the programme via the following URI http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/bbc_news_24/
  12. Also if someone does get the correct information regarding this and an attack is confirmed please enter the details on the database at http://www.sikh-secretariat.com/sikh_incident_form.htm Thanks.
  13. Yeap, the very same Lord Ahmed. Who was indeed present yesterday at the APPG. We have to be alert and inform and correct any inacurracies that arise immediately.
  14. YOUNG SIKHS (UK) CRITICISE FALSE PORTRAYAL OF SIKHS BY LORD AHMED Just as we went to press we had a report that Lord Ahmed appeared on Radio 5 Live on Wednesday 13 July on the Nicky Campbell show and falsely accused Sikhs of carrying out a suicide bombing to kill Rajiv Gandhi. Young Sikhs (UK) was immediately on to Radio 5 Live to point out the mistake made by Lord Ahmed. The BBC was asked to make a correction pointing out those responsible for killing Rajiv Gandhi were not Sikhs, but Hindu Tamils and to allow a Sikh on air to give a Sikh perspective and put the record straight. Given the totally unjust attacks on Sikhs and our religious institutions, Sikhs need to be vigilant of those that will deliberately or otherwise show Sikhs in a negative light and guard against those completely ignoring Sikhs. The question also needs to be asked: was this a genuine mistake by an intelligent and articulate politician who should know much better or was it deliberate to deflect attention away from Muslims. The Sikh assistant to Lord Ahmed was also immediately contacted and asked to have words with Lord Ahmed. The assistant said Lord Ahmed was told he had made a mistake and he agreed to ring Radio 5 Live to point this out. It was described as a "slip of the tongue" - is this good enough when said on national radio? People need to be very clear about suicide bombings. The first recorded suicide bombing took place during the Crusades in the 11th century, when the Christians deliberately blew up one of their ships, losing 140 men but killing many more Muslims. In World War II, Japanese kamikaze pilots saw it as an honour to fly missions which led to certain death. In modern times suicide attacks started in Beirut in 1981. The first such bombings in the West were the September 11 attacks and Britain's first suicide bomber was Asif Hanif who blew himself up in Tel Aviv in 2003. Young Sikhs (UK)
  15. Forgot to say - there looks like a pretty good Youth turnout as well. Remember: OUR YOUTH IS OUR FUTURE
  16. Big big shout to all those who actually took the time and effort to attend this protest. Sangat jeeo it can be done; we have to avoid being negative and instead focus on being constructive. The naysayers will always exist - it was always thus and always will be. Now that you've done it once, it will a lot easier the next time. Sometimes you just have to go for it. And to those that could have gone and didnt because you thought it wasn't worth it - it could have been even bigger with your presence. Do something constructive - it's better than doing nothing! This now means protests/rallies and lobbies in the UK, protests in California, protests in Vancouver, protests in Toronto, protests in Panjab. Well done to all. Next one please - and buy me a ticket :-)
  17. Oops only just spotted this. Click on Add Reply Then use the browse box to specify your file name and click on "Add this Attachement" Then you'll get a new button to enable you to embed the pic in the reply. HTH
  18. Please do - it would be great to see the Sikhs of Toronto in action. I think some has already posted one in the thread regarding the TO protest. More would be great.
  19. Got lucky on the lighting in this one. These are some of the attendee's sitting at the front; there's a load more of packed in behind.
  20. Erm pics didnt come out too well due to the poor lighting in the room ..... but anyway here's Rob Marris MP, Chair of the British Sikhs, APPG.
  21. It was a golden opportunity to address an issue that has been so sadly neglected and he just basically said the same thing twice; even after the interviewer came back to him once she discovered that they had more time than she had thought; he didnt attempt to use the opportunity. If we are going to get elected representatives to deal with Sikh issues; and given that Rob Marris has a large Sikh constituency; and not forgetting that he is the chair of the APPG and given that he was introduced with a lead in mentioning the formation of the APPG; then he could at least have tried to say something of value. We have to learn to understand that MPs work for us; we should not grudgingly accept what they say but chase them, harry them and get them to represent us. I just think he could have said more of relevance; I don't suspect anyone is going to stop him from touching on such an important issue considering that the bomb blasts are the major news story of the moment. Nope - different organisations. Though it might be unfair to label this one comment as representative of the views of the BSF in general. I'm hoping it was just someone speaking out of turn. Guess we'll find out ..... eventually.
