Bhai sahib has become associated with the AKJ over time since his associates after his death continued to come together and perform kirtan. Due to the style of this keertan the name of this jatha stuck ever since. Like taran0 says, Bhai Sahibs sacrifice was for the whole Panth and even his fellow country men. He was seen as the only non-immigrant leader of the GHADAR movement of that time. Due to the hardships he faced in jail, including the jail authorities trying to force feed him. When this was found out, the whole panth set aside a day to pray for his well being. Upon his release he is only person to have been awarded siropay from all the takhts if the time for his selfless sacrifice, and was awarded the 'Son-Chirri' golden sparrow of the Panth. He fought for and won the right for political prisoners to wear dastaar and kachera instead of hats and langotis. To find out more read his jail chittian or autobiography. “Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji Simriti Granth” RELEASE CEREMONY IN MEMORY OF 100 YEARS ANNIVERSARY OF THE GADHAR PARTY MOVEMENT. MASTER UJAGAR SINGH KHALSA AND DAVINDER SINGH GREWAL MEMORIAL AWARDS. 13th October 2012, Surrey, Canada. In memory of the 100 year Anniversary of the Gadhar Party movement, the Punjabi Adbi Sangat Literary Society of Canada (Regd.) and the Hardarshan Memorial International Trust released “Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji Simriti Granth.” In the presence of many Punjabi scholars and community elders, the Smagam commenced with the appointment of an Honorary Presiding Board. This was comprised of world renowned speaker Gian Singh Sandhu [Founder of World Sikh Organisation], Eminent writter Bhai Jaiteg Singh Anant [the spirit and soul of the Punjabi Adbee Sangat Literary Society of Canada], Sikhism’s well respected and dignified Dr. Davinder Singh [Akal Takhat appointed research scholar], and most respectable Jagjit Singh Thakar. Honorary guests Gian Singh Sandhu releasing Simriti Granth along with Jaiteg Singh Anant, Dr. Davinder Singh, Jagjit Singh Thakur, and Kehar Singh Dhamret. First and foremost, Thakar Sahib approached the podium and commenced the ceremony by greeting the congregation. He then sang a poem written by Bhai Sajan Singh Narangwal [fellow Ghadar] in memory of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji. Following this Bhai Chamkaur Singh Sekhon [sarangi Master] read very eloquently a kavita [poem] written by Hira Singh Dardh. The Editor of the Simriti Granth, Bhai Jaitegh Singh Anant gave a speech on his vision for the creation and purpose of the Granth. This Simriti Granth is something extraordinary as it is compiled of numerous articles on Bhai Sahibs life written by eminent University scholars and historians from around the world particularly India, North America, and the United Kingdom. Other notable speakers were Dr. Puran Singh (Vancouver) and Dr. Davinder Singh (White Rock). Sardar Jagjit Singh Thakar read an article by Dr. Gulzar Singh Kang (eminent scholar Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar). Dr. Sarbjot Kaur’s article was read by Bibi Gurdish Kaur Grewal. All of the speeches and articles were so eloquently spoken and read. Various scholars and historians have written on many aspects of Bhai Sahib’s life, from his spirituality to his role as a Sant Sipahi (Warrior Saint). These qualities were beautifully presented. Past president of Ross Street Gurdwara, Vancouver Daljit Singh Sandhu, and Jagtar Singh Sandhu of Dashmesh Darbar, Surrey spoke about Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh’s life and the many sacrifices for the Khalsa Panth. They also mentioned that Bhai Sahib should not only be known as the creator of one Organisation, but a great leader of the Sikh Panth. Giani Narinder Singh of Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Society and Piara Singh Nat (past President of Guru Nanak Sikh Temple) felt that Smagams like these should be held every year, and the Literary Society should be helped in setting up and funding of these projects in the near future as well. Chief Spokesperson Gian Singh Sandhu said that the Simriti Granth would change peoples’ lives morally and spiritually, and that the seed of faith is ingrained in all of humanity. Master Ujagar Singh Khalsa first met Bhai Sahib in 1947, and spoke of his unforgettable memories of times he shared in the sangat of Bhai Sahib. Bhai Malkiat Singh from Seattle, USA also spoke humbly with love about Bhai Sahib. Simriti Granth was first released by Gian Singh Sandhu after then the first copy of the “Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji Simriti Granth” was presented by the Editor Bhai Jaiteg Singh Anant to Hononary Scholar Dr. Davinder Singh. Both Bhai Jaiteg Singh and Gian Singh Sandhu presented a Memorial Award to Master Ujagar Singh Khalsa (Vancouver) and Bhai Davinder Singh Grewal. They were also given a copy of the Simriti Granth, and honoured with a dastar, shawal, plack, portrait of Bhai Sahib and citation with a bouquet of flowers. Finally, Gian Singh Sandhu was presented with a shawal and dastar. Bhai Malkiat Singh was presented with a copy of the Simriti Granth. The smagam ceremony went on for 3 hours in memory of Bhai Sahib. Some very notable individuals including eminent scholars and writers medias, and leading members of the Gurdwara organisations were: Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji, Dr. Sushil Kaur, Professor Deep Singh Sangra, Joginder Shamsher, Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Surrey President Gian Singh Gill, Giani Keval Singh Nirdosh, Shingar Singh Sandhu, Kehar Singh Dhamrait, Sarbjit Singh Kooner, Keval Singh Dhaliwal, Bibi Gurbachan Kaur Dhillon, Avtar Singh Sandhu, Bhai Shaminder Singh Gill and Bhai Indermohan Singh Suty Aheer, Jai Birdi, and Raminder Bhullar. Apple iBooks has already been updated to reflect this and Kindle should follow suit soon (it takes a little longer on Amazon and the process is a bit more trickier). It is not supposed to add up necessarily ji, it's not supposed to replace the hardback, but instead compliment it and make it available to a wider range of people through digital media. Rs 90 (currently) if you are buying in India. However, if you are ordering outside India, for example to the US you are likely to pay at least about $7 including postage & packing. If you check other electronic autobiograhpies of other celebraties and high profile personalities they range anywhere from around $5 - $20, so a few dollars isn't really that expensive, since people pay at least that much for a cup of coffee these days. The Chief Minister has also announced the establishment of a chair at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar and grants of Rs 10 lakh each for the development of the village and the Bhai Randhir Singh Memorial Trust, running an academy at the village. Basant Singh (1878-1961), who later came to be known as Bhai Randhir Singh, wrote extensively on Gurbani and the ideal lifestyle for Sikhs, pioneered the Gurdwara Sudhar Movement and founded the Akhand Kirtani Jatha. ....Amid protests Activists of the Danga Peerat Committee, who were not allowed to meet the Chief Minister during his visit to Narangwal village, raised slogans against the government. Surjit Singh, Amarjit Raj Pal and Gurpdeep Singh alleged that SAD leaders had been exploiting victims of the 1984 Sikh riots for political gains, but not accepting their demands. Leaders of some social and religious organisations protested against the alleged lack of concern of the authorities towards the poor condition of roads leading to the place where the function was organised.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Today we observe the 50th anniversary of Akaal chalaana of Panth Rattan, Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji. Please share stories that have inspired you from any of Bhai Sahib books, which the Sangat can benefit from. The Final Moments of Bhai Sahib's Earthly Life By Bhai Trilochan Singh in Sankhaep Jeevan Bh. Sb. Randhir Singh In 1960 Bhai Sahib's leg veins became weak due to having spent so much time in the dark dungeons, though the rest of his body was healthy. He only had trouble walking about. On April 13, 1961, all the Jatha came to see Bhai Sahib for Vaisakhi. On April 14th he wished good bye to everyone and sent them off. On April 16th, in the morning, he prepared to leave for Gurpuri. It was a Sunday. On Saturday night, his entire bed had moved and his body seemed very restless as though the time had arrived for that great soul to leave his body. From Amrit Vela, Veer Balbir Singh [bh. Sb.'s son], Veer Sajan Singh, Bibi Dalaer Kaur, I and my Singhnee along with some others sat beside Bhai Sahib. At 7 am, I rose to have some words with Bhai Balbir Singh who was in the yard when Bhai Sahib raised both his arms, motioning for me to remain seated. I sat near him. He lovingly called Bibi Dalaer Kaur and he tightly clasped my right arm. I took his other hand and put it to my chest. A very strong current passed through my body. Everyone began to feel that the moment was drawing near. Everyone wanted to say some words to him or at least hear some final words but that holy soul who had spent his final days in peace, happiness and Sehaj avashtaa, also made his final moments miraculous. With the power of his breaths, he said "Vahi" and raised the swaas from his naabh kanval and with "Guru" he took his breaths to teh Gagan Mandal of Dasam Duaar. Again for the second time and then the third time he said "Vahiguru" he put his swaas in Dasam Duaar and then took his place in Gurpuri. This happened at 7.30am on April 16, 1961. His saskaar (cremation) happened at the pond between Gujjarwal and Narangwal. BHAI SAHIB RANDHIR SINGH JI (1878-1961) Freedom Fighter, Reformer, Theologian, and Hero of Lahore Conspiracy Case, First Prisoner of Gurdwara Reform Movement In the first two decades of this century, when the cry of freedom was a distant dream, decadence and demoralization had corroded the foundations of religious, soil and political integrity of our people, Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh emerged as the most brilliant star of a new epoch, an apostle of the faith, who did not lecture or sermonize but poured his thoughts and experiences through stirring divine songs of Gurbani; a reformer, who did not change society by precepts but by example; a revolutionary, who threw away pride and position of an upper class family and plunged into the most daring revolt against British Imperialism at a time when even radical politicians did not dare to raise their little finger for freedom and liberty. No one who met Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji could ever forget his dynamic personality. He had a red glowing face with apostolic beard, a vast forhead, deepset burning eyes. Nothing escaped the magic of his glance, which at times sparkled with irony or compassion, and other times lost itself in ecstasy plunging imperiously to the very depth of consciousness. The matchless classical charm of his dress, his glittering sword, a quoit on his turban, gave him the historical appearance of the Knight of Guru Gobind Singh Ji who lived and died for Him. For more than fifteen years (May 1915 to October 1930) Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji was imprisoned for his involvements in the Ghaddr (Freedom Revolt) movement. After suffering a terrible and torturous prison life, and upon his release, Bhai Sahib was bestowed with the great honours in the form of HukamNamas by all (then) four Takhats. History will bear witness to the fact the bones and the blood of these real freedom fighters fertilized the arid soil of their country’s political field. It is a pity that those who have reaped the fruits of their labors and those who wear the crown of gold, unearthed from the valley of death of these heroes, have deliberately, consciously and callously forgotten those who carried the cross of freedom to the peak of liberty.
