  1. Why are humans able to digest alcoholic and other toxic substances then?

Alcohol is a natural by-product of anaerobic fermentation. Chances are pretty good that you are consuming some alcohol when you eat dhaee (yogurt).

Sikhs are not supposed to drink alcohol because it alters your state of mind, and once again leaves no room in your consciousness for God.

Alcohol is not toxic in itself, but too much alcohol is.

Too much vitamin A can also be toxic, but it is not inherently a toxic substance.

  2. We are not animals and we did not evolve from other species.

I will make the question simpler: Can you name one puran Mahapursh who was used to consuming meat?

We are animals and we did evolve...not from other species, but from other forms of our own species.

This taught to school-age children. It is an accepted belief held by the worldwide scientific community.

  3. haha thats a ridiclous answer. I am surprised that all of sudden ur logics became so weak. you dnt need canine teeth to eat cooked meat. thats the dumbst answer i ever read lol

I am dumb...please guide me. How did this meat eating creep into the human diet? Why are our bodies able to break down meat into amino acid constituents and glucose to provide energy for our bodily functions?

Why are herbivores (vegetarian animals) not able to do this?

  4. can you prove me wrong?

Prove you wrong, in regards to your statement that consumption of meat is an obstacle in the path to God.

To prove something, you need proof, i.e. evidence. What evidence do you want me to provide in regards to a path to God? The subject itself requires faith and logic, not evidence.

Absence of proof is not proof of absence. Thus, you can't prove me wrong either.

I will offer this to you: If humans are the highest form of incarnation, then at some point we were incarnated as an animal that ate meat. How was that meat eating animal able to move up the hierarchy and eventually attain this human form?

  5. oh tu rehnde bhai,

if ur canine teeth are meant to tear flesh then jump on a lion or even try a goat if u r scared of a lion and tear it apart with ur canine and eat it without cooking like animals do. I bet u cant even do this to a rat.

In gurbani Human is called BANDA and banda is meant to do bandgi not eat jaanwar like jaanwars with canine.

I like my meat well done, so I don't think I will be trying to eat live animals any time soon. Lol.

Mainu nah puch. Avdeh dentist nu puch lae, "Why do we have canine teeth?"

In the animal kingdom, the only animals that have canine teeth are those that eat flesh.

  6. Sherdil, do you consider slaughtering animals (for whatever reason) religious? We have to give accounts for eating it. The purpose of being a sikh should be to attain self-realisation. I am telling that consumption of meat is an obstacle in the path and again if you do not believe me, prove me wrong.

Killing anything in the name of God is not a righteous action. This is what Kabir ji has said, and this is what I believe. This is what Akal Takht has decreed as well. That is why Halaal and Kosher are prohibited for Sikhs.

The woman in the video quoted the line by Guru Nanak, where he tells us that plants and animals came from water. Thus, the meat that you forsake and the plants that you eat are one in the same.

Humans also evolved to be lusty and make as many offspring as possible. Humans evolved to be greedy. Of course God made me this way so I can do as I like. Wrong. Sikhi teaches to rise above these animalistic things and be something higher. We could all use excuses of "god made me this way" to avoid/do things.

A "sucha Sikh" is a true Sikh if that person follows all the Gurus instructions.

Preoccupation with lust (kaam) fills your head with such thoughts. There is no room in your mind for God.

Greed comes from Haumai. You are only concerned with your own needs. Gurbani says you cannot understand God's Hukam if you have haumai.

By eating flesh, how is the mind polluted?

  7. It is a shame that we are still trapped in this confusion on eating or not.

When there is no daya there is no dharam. The butcher has no pity while killing the animal and because he kills them for the consumer, the consumer also has to give lekha for this.

The consciousness of animals is same as that for humans and that for plants it is very little to nothing and for rocks the consciousness is zero. Eating fruits and vegetables is not same as eating meat.

If eating meat is religious what is then non-religious?

The truth is that the person eating meat cannot concentrate on naam and if you think this is not true then prove me wrong.

You are referring to the lines by Bhagat Kabir. He was criticizing the practice of Halaal meat preparation. They slit the animal's throat and slowly let it bleed to death, while they recite a prayer from the Quran. That is why he asks " Would you slit your own throat, to have meat with your bread?"

Killing in the name of God is never a righteous action. If it was, then all butchers would be mahapurakhs, as Kabir ji has said.

Guru Hargobind Sahib's hukamnama clearly prohibit these things for sikhs. But his created akal takhat still prohibit halaal. Takht's have there own rehit. This is tough time for us.

Can you please provide that hukamnamma? I have never come across it.

As far as I know, Akal Takht does not prohibit meat eating. They only prohibit halaal meat (and kosher meat defacto).

  8. we are talking abouts sikhs here not just humans. humans do a lots of things.

    Han ji,

I was speaking from a Sikh point of view.

We don't cut our hair because god has given it as a gift to all humans. With the same logic, God has made humans meat eaters. We have canine teeth, meant for tearing flesh.

I am adding points from a scientific background, in addition to the points from Gurbani stated by the woman in the video.

This Bibi has been misguiding many people. Instead of understanding the truth and then spreading the truth regardless of how many people love or hate you. These nastiks play with vulnerable peoples emotions and then set them up for failure with teaching them nastik beliefs. I had a discussion with one of these nastiks not to long ago and the person thought that this world is the Vaheguru. If you mention Indra, Vishnu, Krishna, etc infront of these people then they throw their hands in the air and say............never existed. Such people can't even learn from Indra's mistakes, but are making the same mistakes. However even Indra climbed the latter of spiritual wisdom higher than these people who have Satguru sitting right in front of them. Indra had it much tougher and still reached higher heights. I give much more respect to Indra than these people any day.

Those that hold this Bibi in high regards. Go read Katha Upanishads and understand reality of Brahmin and atma.

Why do we have to bring Hindu deities into a discussion about meat eating?

Why don't we read Guru Granth Sahib, instead of the Hindu scripture Katha Upanishad?

It doesn't make sense to look towards Hindu scriptures for guidance, and then turn around and say that we are not Hindus.

  9. You can have Bowel problems or if your immune system attacks the lining of the stomach. Intrinsic factor is a substance that is secreted by the lining of the stomach and is needed for the absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestines. If the intrinsic factor isn't produced, vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed into the body properly. I personally have never seen anyone have b-12 defficiancy. There is plenty in milk and dairy products. You don't even need forified cereals. I think bacteria produce B-12 too. So it can get into plants and on food.

You are correct. Lack of intrinsic factor prevents Vit. B-12 from being absorbed in the ileum.

My argument is still that meat is the best source of vitamins and nutrients. You can combine various non-meat food products to attain the same nutritional value as meat, but most people (especially in our community) do not have the savvy to make such conscious decisions when choosing what to eat.

Thus, when the average person forgoes meat he may not know that he needs to eat more beans and cereals, and drink more milk.

I used the example of granthis, because that is what I have been told by physicians who deal with patients from our community. I guess it is down to personal experience, and what kinds of people you come across.

On the flipside, eating too much meat can lead to complications as well. Such as, gout and high cholesterol (in people who don't exercise). It is best to maintain a balance between all food groups.

    Bhul chuk maaf

  10. Surely they have enough daeen (yoghurt how do you spell it? :S) and milk. I've never heard of anyone with this deficiancy.

I suppose dhaeen and milk would have Vitamin B-12. Perhaps not enough as the fortified cereals?

I had a professor that was a strict vegetarian (Hindu), and he had to take weekly Vit B -12 shots. Maybe some people are more genetically predisposed than others.

  11. @ChuckSinghNorris

You are well educated in alternate food sources to attain the vitamins normally found in meat. That's fantastic. Unfortunately, many members of our community are not as enlightened. Granthis are the most common patients that come in for B-12 injections. They don't have access to fortified cereals and such. More education is needed to live a healthy vegetarian lifestyle, but it definitely can be done.

    @panthicunity

My cholesterol has never been high in my life (knock on wood) because I exercise regularly. You are right though. The vegan diet can significantly lower one's LDL and weight. I think a month long cycle is good enough to cleanse people. It is hard to maintain, as you have to eat a lot more to make up for the lack of calories in each meal. If you can maintain it for longer, then you have strong will power. Big ups to you.

Saṯgurū binā hor kacẖī hai baṇī.

Without the True Guru, other songs are false.

Baṇī ṯa kacẖī saṯgurū bājẖahu hor kacẖī baṇī.

The songs are false without the True Guru; all other songs are false.

Kahḏe kacẖe suṇḏe kacẖe kacẖīʼn ākẖ vakẖāṇī.

The speakers are false, and the listeners are false; those who speak and recite are false.

Har har niṯ karahi rasnā kahi▫ā kacẖẖū na jāṇī.

They may continually chant, 'Har, Har' with their tongues, but they do not know what they are saying.

Cẖiṯ jin kā hir la▫i▫ā mā▫i▫ā bolan pa▫e ravāṇī.

Their consciousness is lured by Maya; they are just reciting mechanically.

Kahai Nānak saṯgurū bājẖahu hor kacẖī baṇī. ||24||

Says Nanak, without the True Guru, other songs are false. ||24||

    You have misinterpreted.

Guru sahib is saying that those who sing hymns without having God in their heart are wasting their time.

So even if you sang a song in praise of God, it would be false if it doesn't come from your heart.

The key line that you have quoted is this: The consciousness is lured by Maya; they are just reciting mechanically.

  13. If they have no debts then they can do what they want. They dont have to give the Indian state anything. As long as EP has enough food, who cares about the rest? About time they grew their own.

If change is to come it has to come from the local government level. No more Badals, no more deras, no more small thinking. If the army wont recruit why dont Sikhs form PMCs?

With NRI land, the farmers still pay rent which can be excessive. Or they just steal the land and leave the NRIs out to dry. My point was that it is unfair for people who have never farmed and never will to own land and create pressures on the land price there which causes half these problems.

Imagine East Punjab as a ship. Each ship has many engines like industry, farming, research, mining etc to keep it going and keep it afloat (economically). East Punjab is a ship with one engine on, an overheated one at that. The rest arent on, no one knows if they work and the one engine that is on is creaking and may break, sinking the ship and everyone on board. It's time to turn the other engines on and reduce the stress on the lone farming engine. But the decision to steer the ship in a new direction rests with the Captain and his officers (Badal and the Akalis). Either they make the decision or the crew and passengers take control and do it for them. Those of us abroad (in the lifeboats) can help but only if the people on board want us too.

True, but they can't shake off their debts because there is no formal credit system in India. Farmers can't just file for bankruptcy. There isn't even a safety net for them. All of these things were provided by the British before independence, and farmers in other countries have these safeguards in place. This has to be fought for politically.

I think NRI's have to make more engines to run Punjab.

There is a huge drug and cancer problem in Punjab. If NRI's built more hospitals, it would employ people as doctors, nurses, technicians, laborers, etc. There would actually be some opportunity for people. It would reduce the drug culture because young men with disposable income, and nothing to do, would suddenly have a job. It would also treat the cancer epidemic.

    Just my two cents

  14. Maybe if you peasants weren't generally so obnoxious, ignorant and excluding people might actually be inclined to do stuff with you?

By the looks of it, you'll have to watch other people moving forward whilst you reap what you've sown for a while. Think of it as an important lesson in humility maybe? Maybe being on the receiving end of what your people have been dishing out may lead to some 'cultural paradigm shift' for the better? Who knows?

If we are obnoxious, then you must be our prophet.

You wish there was a paradigm shift. Maybe it would give you a shot at revenge, for however you feel you have been slighted. The only paradigm shift that is happening is that Sikhs are becoming a minority in Punjab.
