  1. The Widow Colony is an award winning 74 minute film (available to buy from http://www.SikhiStore.com) that takes an in-depth look into the lives of the widows of the Sikh men who were killed in the anti-Sikh massacre of November, 1984. The film, directed by Harpreet Kaur, explores the suffering of these women, their battle for justice and their struggle for survival in India.

"The Widow Colony – India’s Unsettled Settlement" by Sach productions borrows its name from the settlement in Tilak Vihar, on the west-side of New Delhi, which is locally called the Widow Colony or Vidhva Colony. The film takes the viewer to the areas of Trilokpuri, Kalyanpuri, Sultanpuri and Mongolpuri, the same localities that suffered the major brunt of the Sikh killings in November of 1984. Along with the testimonies of the widows, supplemented with imagery of the killings and destruction that followed after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the film conveys the intensity of the tragedy that occurred 30 years ago.

  2. We've been selling dastars worldwide via our online store (www.SikhiStore.com) for over 2 and a half years now. Take a look and see.

I purchase 70% of my home purchase online.

Reason i don't sikh items buy online because:

    1. Quality not too good

    2. Price too high (Shipping)

    3. Not too professional (Many shop owners are not serious)

As Amritdhari Gursikhs ourselves, we struggled getting our items and online Sikhi Shops at the time as you say seemed a bit hit and miss. This is the reason we started SikhiStore. We are a professional UK based Sikhi Store offering low cost quick delivery (all orders placed before 5pm are posted out next working day) and we only stock good quality items we would use ourselves. As it was set up as a self sustaining service for the Sangat and not about making lots of money, all our prices are also very affordable. Take a look: www.SikhiStore.com

  3. Sikhistore ji, what brand or which company your turban stock materials come from?

Singh559, you are lucky to find a source who keeps one type quality. I know that the well known major players like 'Sardar Pagri house' in Amritsar and many others in various other cities always get different brands/quality after depletion of big batch.

We stock the same material you will find in the high quality range of dastars at Sardar Pagri House in Amritsar.

  4. There are no brands when it comes to turban industry. Every batch is different and there is no consistency. You will be lucky to find a good material from a good batch. I always buy material from different places hoping to get at least 5 out of ten pughs in good quality.

Have you tried us? We at SikhiStore stock Rubia, Full Voile and Mal Mal dastars and we try to only supply high quality colour fast dastars.

Can see our dastar range at: http://www.sikhistore.com/category/dastars/

  5. For any books that are in English, I'd highly recommend that you use some OCR software that can 'read' the text and then save as an ePub file.

This ebook then has searchable text, bookmarking, remembers which page you were on, allows highlighting, chapters etc etc. It is the standard format amongst things like the Kindle and mobile devices.

  6. Fully agree with this. I think actually taking responsibility for a certain Seva and putting some time and dedication towards it will definitely show results and it amazing what you can achieve and what we can all achieve together. We know this from our experience.

We thought there was a need for an online Sikhi Store a few years ago. Maharaj had blessed us with the skills and expertise available to make it happen. We contemplated it for a long time, but one day we thought you know what, we need less of the talking and thinking and more action. Maharaj kirpa naal, SikhiStore started. Takes around 1-2 hours each day but almost 2 years later, we still thank Vaheguru for being able to serve the Sangat each and every day in this way.

  8. Congratulations veerji!

The material you use is just personal preference. The 3 main types are Mal mal (F74), Full Voile and Rubia. Mal mal is the lightest material, full voile is slightly heavier and Rubia is the heaviest. We stock all 3 if you wanted to try them out:

I personally tie a small dastar under my main dastar, both full voile. Normally I keep the main dastar tied all day. Sometimes though if just at home I will tie just the small dastar.

Some children and elders for sports tie a patka:
