I am trying to highlight the fact that visakhi was a cultural event until Guru ji made it a religiously significant for Sikhs. Also, I have not said anything about RITUALS, I have said cultural practises (I will need to look at the dictionary to see if ritual and cultural practises are the same). Throwing colour is not a ritual but a cultural thing to do, just like when the bride and groom are cleansed using haldi and tail before wedding.

The visakhi example was that as sikhs we have no problem celebrating visakhi because Guru ji established Khalsa on that day but if they hadnt then we might still be celebrating it as a cultural event, much like basant etc. Some people would have called Visakhi a ritual/manmat if there was no religious significance attached to it.

JSinghnz, only a sikh can have such thoughts because we are free to question things and follow our own path to Waheguru with the help of our Gurus. What I have said is entirely my opinion and it may be right or wrong depending on my understanding of things.We learn by questioning and discussions, dont we?

anyone seen that picture of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj , the one were he is wearing a mala around his neck and holdn one n his hand ,didnt guru ji himself say no t this practice , to think kuturd rascist brahmins have even rearranged the piture of the guru , even i hv one at my house like this , i no Guru Ji said not to worship his pictures , but we dont worship their pictures , and i heard a aakhi wer an artist was trying to draw Guru Ji and painted everything bout could not paint hi face and Guru Ji had to do it himself , so these pictures r obvioulsy not the real Guru Ji's pictures , maybe if some gursikh artist or spritual gursikh can maybe draw Guru Ji's photo , but look at wher brahmins hav gone , THEY HAVE DESTROYED A LOT OF SIKHI .

why dosent anyone start making videos like guruka , AKAamazing , Jusreign , look at how many views theseguys get . look at how many sikhs look at these guys videos . if u r gonna starrt makin a video , make bout khalistan , y we need it , answer som questins with gurbani , look at the guy who made rajoana tv , its so good and teaches you so much . u will need some popularity growth to reach out to every1 one , try adversting on the internet , on websites like sikhsangat , facebook , twitter etc .

It's a good idea but how can we do this? Seriously speaking, wouldn't the only way to do this be to get in jail and then do it? I know they have libraries and whatnot but what other ways are there to do it? Perhaps arrange speeches or seminars with the warden? The jails in USA are run as businesses and are probably by conservative christians.

sangat jee , i have got an idea bout sprednin sikhi . u no how they say that gangsters , drug dealers , criminals make the best gursikhs , wellthen y dont we do preachar in jails . i hv heard that gursikhs r already doing this in the UK, that is very good . i saw somthn bout buddhist doing this to . think bout it if we do preachar in jail to punjabi people who hve gone the wrog way , we can get gursikhs . we can get 1 n then 2 ,10,20, 100, 1000 etc and then even other faiths will probably convert after studying our religon . u getto change a person from a criminal to a gursikh . but if u want ppl to listen to u u need to have some spiritual kamaaee and do katha in english . wat do u guys think ?

i got this teacher who doubts everything. like religon he doubts if GURU JI ever existed and doubts he do u no SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI is our GURU and basically he doubts history , he is not into gurbani at all , he has never read anything , he dosent even no who Bhagat Singh or Sant Jarnai Singh Ji are .

I believe the main reason that the likes of Dawkins, etc., possibly haven't considered Sikhi as a serious alternative to the Abrahamic religions - in terms of trying to fathom the broad topic of 'religion' as a whole - is because of a certain degree of prejudice on their part. Now I don't mean calculated bigotry or anything of such nature, but possibly there's a sense of under-estimating what Sikhi has to offer because of the popular (or widely-held) belief that Sikhs are an unsophisticated people from the Indian sub-continent, and therefore could possibly never hope to provide the answers to the perennial mysteries of God and everything inbetween, even though I appreciate the Abrahamic religions originated from the Middle East, but we all know there's a difference between how the populations of ex-colonies are viewed.

These kind of presumptions and negative portrayals all lead back to the attempts of the GOI to paint Sikhs as agitators obsessed with militancy, and if nobody bothers to scratch the surface and really try to learn about our history and our scriptures, as well as challenge the so-called official accounts of the GOIs policies towards Sikhs, many people including highly-educated professors and academics will believe the popular concensus of the time.

I guess thats where we enter the equation and we must try our utmost to get the message out to the world about what exactly we're all about.

I Understand over doing masturbation and things, but even that upto a certain limit can be alright. I dont understand what is wrong with having a girlfriend and spending quality time with her and maybe even pleasure with each other(Not just sex). Who are you really hurting? You are just sharing each others love and if they happen to be a great people in life and have good morals and standards of living why should it matter.
