Buy lots of heras like ranjeet singh and give them out to kirtanee jathas
There is a Sant Kartar SIngh Bhindranwale Je teaching that he tells that:
The more wealth you get, more you should strive to be a better person; don't let pride come in you, with increased wealth. He (Vaheguru) who gives also takes it away; everything is in His hands.

A quick read you can get through; and gets lots of the fundamentals, you can probably get through it in a sitting or two.

Of course the Shri Guru Granth Sahib is the prime scripture and guiding source of all Sikhs
also lookup Japji Sahib, Asa De Vaar, and Sukhmani Sahib all of them have tons of translations.

I'm intrigued 'stingers12'. Although I'm not surprised that someone that didn't bother at all with education is starting threads asking what job, any job, is good I'm intrigued as to why you didn't bother. I said something about this yesterday in the thread about the Sikh lady in Singapore in the news and politics page of this forum and the point I raised there was about how we Sikhs seem to now be not living up to the very definition of our existence. Sikh...means learner. One could rightly interpret that as 'scholar'. Meaning you're the one that is supposed to be studying medicine so much that you find a cure for cancer...You're the one that is supposed to be burying your head in the Law books so much that you can stand up for and fight for the oppressed....You're the one that is so politcaly and commercialy aware that you can take you, and by default your community, ahead in the business world.
How is it then, when Hindu forums are discussing medical advancements...muslims forums are discussing the relevance of Descarte's philosophy vs Islam....how is it that the average good Sikh on our Sikh forums wants to know 'what job is good' ?
Sikh does not mean learner in that sense it specifically means Sikh of the Guru.. I think some bad writers influenced lots of the non-gurbani reading/understanding part of the panth.

You gotta understand it. Theres plenty of translations online but you gotta make the effort. When it feels uncomfortable thats when you start learning things and you gotta get in the zone and just get it done. Spend at least a 1 hour at a time and dont leave until that hour is over to your studies. Your number 1 thing you should read is http://www.rajkaregakhalsa.net/downloads/Gurbani%20Related/Sri%20Guru%20Granth%20Sahib%20Ji%20Maharaj/JapJi_Sahib-_A_Translation_-_Prof_Teja_Singh.pdf
and also
http://www.nyu.edu/clubs/usa/docs/sggs.pdf
coupled with this
http://www.sikhvibes.com/downloads/PDFs/Raags.pdf
read according to time of day and raag rather than linearly
You must go to Gurdwara daily that would totaly change u up best time is early morning ask for their early morning schedule if not possible try atleast to get the evening divaan (enlightenment). After Japji sahib i reccomend doing the 5 bani's or asa di vaar or sukhmani sahib but by then you will already have found the path.

I might be wrong and dont want to cause debate but I dont think that that Teja Singh (MA Harvard) is the same Teja Singh (Rara Sahib Wale)
Sukhmani Sahib also states:
"Brahmgyani kee gat brahgyani jaane.."
I would like to share a small story with you:
Once (in 1906) Bhai Teja Singh Jee was going to the US and went to Baba Attar Singh jee for his blessings. Baba Attar Singh jee directed him to go to Bhai Sahib Bhai Randheer Singh jee. When Bhai Teja Singh jee reached Bhai Sahib, Bhai Sahib replied, "Who am I?" Bhai Teja Singh jee then told Bhai Sahib about the importance of his mission to US and Baba Attar Singh Jee's request. So, Bhai Sahib after some thought requested the Sangat to appoint 5 Singhs to do ardas for Bhai Teja Singh Jee.
Never would Real Gursikhs let anyone put them on any pedestal. If you watch the above video...its totally opposite of the above story I shared..
The point was to illustrate that Real Gursikhs never accepted anyone putting them at an authority level and doing chavar over them can never ever be thought of even.

You should read more books mate its the strain that somethings getting tough that makes you learn things.. If you only read in English I recommend getting you mind together and hit up some Punjabi its much easier even if you dont knkow it but still both can speak the language of love and if your attuned with love then you sometimes cant tell which language someone just spoke but rather you connect to their soul and what they are saying..
Mad props and my heart goes out to anyone else who posts more Mahapurkhs here.
Thank you for the OP for starting such a beautiful thread.

There are numourous mentions of joining with God. I would say about 5% of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji talks explicitly about it so it should not be hard to find a quote. The jist is that the soul and God become one just as a water droplet and a large body of water merge together. Im not too sure about this silent witness thing you are talking about. Also God is seen as always present everywhere at all times. Naam = what is beyond value and when you think in these terms of being beyond values than you will join with God. The trick is to join with God at all times which is seen as the most pleasurable and most useful thing but whilist doing so you keep all other things secondary in your mind and still attend to them.
Hope that helps.

ikhongar we are all one.
From what I know Kaur in Sanskrit/Tamil means first inline (eldest) son or daughter to receive royalty for the throne
and Singh means all the remaining children of the royal king or queen. If someone can confirm this that would be great.

I recommend partying it up. There are pleanty of pre wedding cultural cermonies you can engage in but in terms of the actual marriage not doing it the Sikh way in a gurdwara as others recommenced.. unless you both decide to take amrit or something.
Also see if you are interested in learning more about the wedding and what its about

The 33 Swaiyas are found in the Dasam Granth Sahib one after the other. Akali Phoola Singh when he was a kid memorized all these by heart along with Nitnem Banis, Akal Ustat and a few other Shri Mukhwakh Bani's. Jathedar Sahib Akali Phoola Singh would not eat until he memorized a certain portion as written by Prem Singh Hoti

just do a seperate ardas in a different room and then go to the pangat... I know what you mean and you should talk to the people who are always at the gurdwara and perhaps bring a quote from the SGGS about doing seva without wanting anything in return and tell them it is something the youth does not like

how come you guys don't know? Punjabi Culture was glorious long before the Muslims came. Gorakh Nath and all those people.. very rich Indian history and if we go. a tad bit back we got buddhists. remember there were 2 great Buddhist invaders of Punjab, Tsang and Fa Hien. infact 30 or so letters The Gurmukhi script come from the Buddhist Siddham script. Not to mention Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, richest man of the world during his time, he and his associates were sometimes dressed head to toe in jewels something the foreigners never seen, nowadays celebrities make the news if the wear all diamond shoes but Runjit Singh was much ahead of his times, he also had the.strongest army of the world (only lost to british after death using dirty unwarlike tactics, eg Sher Singh assianation and faking wars). Educate yourselfs learn AND read Punjabi too the fullest

Not really a childrens book.. for that I think your local Gurdwara would be the best source I can think of.. but what i was gonna say is the best book for learning Punjabi in my opinoin is Ved P Vatuk's Punjabi Reader Level 1 and Level 2. Must have will pretty much teach you almost everything very effective very enjoyable 100 stars out of 5.

The Entire Pran Sangali Granth PDF, (Chain of the Vital Breath), an interpretation of Hatha Yoga
I do not know if this book was actually written or not by Guru Nanak Maharaj, or whether it was written after his visit with Raja Shivnabh in Mathaleh, Sri Lanka, or by someone sinister faking it as Gurbani. It contains 20 different shabads. It is found the Bhai Banno Shri Aad Granth Sahib Beer / Khare Vali Bir which is sometimes considered as an un-authorized version of the Adi Granth. Also of interest may be Haqiqat Rah Muqam Raje Shivnabh Ki, which is also found in the Bhai Banno Sahib Beer.

What the trend in Sikh youth to go Puratan.. rather we should go modern and create our own new trends.. eg new forms of horses.. ridding in limousines and stuff. Creating community projects and environment (DEG teg fhatheh).. we have a beautiful ideology lets apply it to its fullest, todays times have much different opportunities the centuries earlier; lets get creative khalsa ji. Just a note I probably will enjoy reading these books more than anyone else, and am thankful for such traditions, but just wanted to put a idea out there.

This Is Why Gatka Is Not Taken Seriously
in WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Gatka is not meant to fight with each other it is meant to teach and improve how you fight.
