Finding discrepancies in Sikhi at the age of 16? Interesting! First of all, none of the Guru Sahibaan were violent. Even Guru Nanak Patshah Jee Maharaj had a barsha which is still preserved. Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj has written and uttered such amazing Bani that is miles away from violence. No where has Guru Sahib said that one particular community was superior. Maanas Ki Jaat Sabhai Ekai Pehchaanbo. As for the Sikh appearance, its nothing to do with pride. Its our uniform, its our identity, its something we have died for and will die for. Why we have a distinct appearance? Well, lets see...you find me someone else who ever walked this planet and comes anywhere close to the dust below Dasmesh Pita jee's feet. You won't, therefore, since we belong to the One who doesn't have an equal, we are to carry His blessings as a sign that we belong to Him. Its not about ego, pride or arrogance, its our allegiance to Him. Even a pet dog has a collar which means it belongs to someone. Every soldier has a uniform. We are His soldiers and we are faithful to Him like a dog is to its master. Thus we carry His blessed appearance which He has gifted us. Sikhs don't turn their back on Guru Sahib's paavan pavittar saroop, because our Guru Sahib is not an idol, or a book, or someone who died in the past. Guru Sahib is jaagdi jot, eternal illuminance free from birth and death. Anyone who compares someone's turning back to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj with Guru Sahib's pointing feet towards Mecca should wake up to the fact that he/she is NOT Guru Nanak Patshah Jee Maharaj. Guru Sahib was teaching a lesson, what lesson is this person trying to teach? If someone is so adamant to compare themselves to Guru Sahib, they should first come forward and sacrifice their entire clan for the Panth. All the Guru Sahibaan were ONE jot, so thinking that one Guru Sahib's saroop was different from another is like saying the sun that shines over New York is different from the one that shines over New Jersey.

At the end of the day, its your life, your kesh, and your relation with Gurujee. You judge what is more important for you and what your priorities in life are. If its Guru Sahib, you won't have any questions. If its anything/anyone else, good luck!

LOL. USA and Australia are one of most tolerant countries! Russia and Romania are 15-29%. This should be taken with a pinch of salt. We don't know how reliable these stats are. How did they do this survey? How many people did they ask? Where did they do the survey, in one place or all over the country? If they surveyed say 1,000 people in India, how is that representive of a country that has a billion+ people. Where did they go to in the USA? How about the middle of America? The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism is of the firm view that Delhi High Court judgment on gay relationships could ruin the society as this was against the tenets of all religions.

Reacting to the judgement on Saturday, Takht Jathedar Gian Gurbachan Singh said the Sikh religion or for that matter any religion did not permit sexual relations between individuals of the same sex.

"This is a very serious matter and against religious codes and ethics, "he said while appealing to the Sikhs against maintaining relations with the same sex.

"Any Sikh, baptised, non-baptised or one who believes in the Guru Granth Sahib, need not be influenced by the court judgement and should always refrain from establishing gay relationships," he said.

An edict issued from Akal Takht nearly four years ago had not only prohibited Sikhs from being involved in gay relationships but had described such a relationship as 'anti religious'. This edict was issued when there was a hot debate on legalising gay relationships in Canada, where a large number of Sikhs are settled.

Giani Gurcharan Singh said Sikhs should stick to the edict and set an example by keeping themselves away from such all "unnatural relationships".

"The marriage verses enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib are meant to solemnise weddings only between persons of opposite sexes," he said.

Same peole who back down from supporting Sikh movies and making the Sikh youth aware of what happened to them. Same people who don't support poor Sikhs or shaeed parivaar and back down when the Badals or the government say "naughty naughty". What do they know about dharam?

It'd be based upon Sikh teachings, so yes to all the above.

I think a lot of people keep their surname as to keep a connection with where they are from back home in India, being their pinds.

I think they are not purposely showing they are this caste or that, but to hang on to their ancestory roots which they are proud of.

It's why I keep mine. Also, so many Singhs on registers etc. that it makes it a lot easier if I just use my surname.

SOME FACTS REGARDING MUSLIMS/ISLAM - BY A MUSLIM

I searched the Internet to make a list of original source-books on Islam and I purchased these books. I have read the following 20 books:

1. The Quran

2. The authentic traditions of Muhammad (Sahih Hadith) by Bukhari: 9 books

3. A summary of the authentic traditions of Muhammad by (Sahih) Muslim: 2 books

4. Life of the Prophet: oldest biography by Ibn Ishaq

5. Life of the Prophet: Tabari: 4 books

6. Life of the Prophet: Ibn Sa'd: 2 books

7. Shariah book

I

have found the following issues very disturbing:

1. Slavery

Muhammad was keeping slaves and made trade in them. This means that slavery is part of Islam forever. Slavery has only been abolished in Muslim countries under Western pressure. Therefore, slavery can be reinstated at any time. Islamic legislation concerning slavery is being reprinted up till today by the main schools of Islam, so that scholars are aware of it. Furthermore Islam allows female slaves and female prisoners of war to be raped on condition that well-established rules are followed.

Muhammad himself encouraged this, see the following authentic tradition/hadith transmitted by Muslim. The title of chapter 29 is already very revealing:

Sahih Muslim 8:29: “IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO HAVE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE WITH A CAPTIVE WOMAN AFTER SHE IS PURIFIED (OF MENSES OR DELIVERY) IN CASE SHE HAS A HUSBAND, HER MARRIAGE IS ABROGATED AFTER SHE BECOMES CAPTIVE.”

2. The humiliating position of women

They cannot decide whom they get married to and can be divorced any time without any formality. ... or can be exchanged for another woman. Quran 4:20 says:

“And if you wish to have (one) wife in place of another and you have given one of them a heap of gold, then take not from it anything; would you take it by slandering (her) and (doing her) manifest wrong?”

Women have to obey their husbands and if the husband fears she will not obey she may be beaten. Quran 4:34:

Note: "beat them (fem. pl.)" in Arabic, is often translated by "discipline her" or “scourge her” because the translator is obviously too ashamed to use the word beating.

One of the four schools of Islam, namely the Shafi'i school, states without shame that the only duty of a woman is to sexually satisfy her husband. Through her dowry he gets a one-off payment. This reminds me of the oldest profession in the world. Scholars of the Shafi'i school do not make this up. They simply learn this from the Quran:

Quran 4:24. “...Then as to those whom you profit by, give them their dowries as appointed...”

Quran 4:20. “And if you wish to have (one) wife in place of another and you have given one of them a heap of gold, then take not from it anything; would you take it by slandering (her) and (doing her) manifest wrong?

Quran 4:21. “And how can you take it when one of you has already gone in to the other and they have made with you a firm covenant?

This also has been confirmed by authentic traditions of Muhammad, which clearly state that the dowry is only linked to sexual intercourse with the husband. If he divorces her after having sexual intercourse even only once, he loses this money. (Muslim, Book 9, number 3557.)

3. The killing of apostates

Most Muslims and non-Muslims think this is an anomaly. They are wrong. This practice is not only in the collective memory of the population in Muslim countries, but all shariah handbooks tell the same story. Everyone who has studied Islam seriously knows that Shariah prescribes the death penalty for apostates. This is based on the authentic traditions of Muhammad who said:

"If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him." (Bukhari, Book 52, Number 260)

and

"The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims." (Bukhari, Book 83 Number 17)

In most Islamic countries the death penalty for apostasy is not applied because this is an inhumane law. In these countries however apostates are harassed administratively by all possible means or are punished in one way or another. In the so-called moderate Muslim country Malaysia they have sent a woman to a psychiatric institution and her child has been taken away from her because she had turned away from Islam and became a Hindu. Fortunately she lives in "moderate" Malaysia. If she were living in Saudi-Arabia, she would be beheaded.

4. Polygamy as legalized adultery.

Contrary to what some Muslim(a)s claim, polygamy is not an exceptional situation and the first wife does not need to give permission. The man has the unconditional right to four wives if he gives them a dowry according to their status and if he can provide for them. Women who don’t grant this right to their husbands are ungrateful and therefore they will go to hell. This is described in the tradition of Muhammad narrated by Muslim in Book 1, Number 142.

It is hard to believe that this is the work of a Supreme Being. One has to be unbelievably brainwashed to think this is sublime. In Pakistan however, you will be beheaded if you throw the Quran in a waste-bin.

Many a Muslim will claim that what I have written has nothing to do with Islam and that all of it are culture-related issues. This is completely false. The situation of the Muslim has nothing to do with a so called backward culture in Islamic countries but has everything to do with true Islam itself.

In my opinion Islam is in violation with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on many issues and poses a danger to society. Reformation of Islam is impossible since everything is described in detail in the Quran and the Hadith/traditions of Muhammad. The Quran and the Hadith are complementary and provide explanations for one another. The so-called reformers or moderate Muslims pretend that a large part of the Quran does not exist. Or they try to distort the truth because it so ugly.

The extremists (<Edited>, Salafists, ... ) or so-called “radicalized youth” just go for the whole story. If in the West Islam is considered as an “approved” religion, one cannot blame these people that they use their right to effectively follow the Quran and the Hadith.

One forgets that Islam is not only a religion but also a culture, a social system, a legislation, a political system, a military system, ....and that these cannot easily be separated.

When I put everything in perspective I cannot understand how anyone who has studied Islam thoroughly on the basis of the Islamic sources, still can remain a Muslim. I am no longer a Muslim. i hope every Muslim will study Islam thoroughly and follow suit.

So you hate ISLAM, not Muslims. So you just automatically hate a muslim just because they are Muslim. It's like me saying "I hate Hindus becuase they killed many Sikhs, I hate them because of Gangu".

You shouldn't hate people just becuase they follow Islam. I have met quite friendly muslims, infact this one boy is more dharmi than a lot of Sikhs (me included). He never swears, never gossips about anyone, doesn't &lt;banned word filter activated&gt; and whine, a very polite boy.

Should people be held accountable for what their ancestors did? Just say me ancestor (my great great grandad) was a mass murderer who killed all non-Sikhs. Now, should I also be held accountable for this? Should all white people be hated on by blacks becuase their ancestors had black slaves?

I'm not doubting your prem or sharda to your guru. You are way way way more committed than me to waheguru sis. I'm just saying that "bande nu banda vangar samaj". Just look at all humans as humans regardless of colour, religion, nose shape, eye shape and all these other labels. After all are we not all a piece of God?

UK = Paji don't worry so much these were only just Samadhi's. The Gurdwaray are what's really sad. Remember Ranjit Singh was the most able political leader for the community in his time. The Panth can never tolerate or flourish under a royal family and like Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa advocated only Sarbat Khalsa and Panj Pyaaray should lead our Qaum. Saamadhi's of so-called royal children shouldn't mean too much to us, though of course I would rather such heritage had survived vandalism from the Punjabi Muslims.

I think we should take care of the old havelis and smadhs as it is a very large piece of our history. A time when we didn't have to live in fear and beg other people to take care of us. Like chatanga veer said, they are a link to our past.

UK = Instead of repairing manmat Samadhi's let build more quality schools and hospitals all across our side of Punjab, where needed most elsewhere in India and sub-Saharan Africa and we will achieve far more results.

However I do agree with you on this. Time and time again people appeal to help educate a student in Punjab. I think we should first take care of the people. I mean there a many thousands of poor Sikh families who lost everything they had in 1984 and the freedom struggle after. How many people go to help them? I posted a documentry on the Sikhlighar Sikhs a while back and hardly anyone cared. How can we talk about renovating buildings when there are people who can't even get clean water, have a meal every day and go to school? We should strike a balance between this and should focus on getting Sikhs more educated lift them out of poverty and then everything else will fall into place. There is a huge potential in Pakistan. A million Sindhi Hindus could easily help manage the gurdware, maybe we should focus on them and Sikhs that live there.

What are your views in preserving our heritage like this?

This old gurdwara still has the gurbani, pictures etc. But it is being used at least. And not for bad things. It has become a library.

If I was old enough and had the money I'd help educate the Sikhs in Pakistan. Also increase parchaar in the Hindus in Pakistan. They already keep Guru Granth Sahibs, so I don't see why these 1million+ couldn't help us to take care of the heritage in Pakistan.

However, what is the point of building up gurdware then not using them. Also, say we spend millions renovating. Then India kills a Muslim. The Pakistanis will take their anger out on our buildings (they've done this before attacking Sikh buildings in 1992). Educate the Sikhs, make them stronger and so that they are a lot of value to the Pak. government, maybe then the government will actually act on what they say and help save the gurdware.

Well it depends on your genes. Take a look at your family and you'll get an idea of how tall you could get. You should eat as much as you can and eat healthy food with lots of vitamins and minerals, wholemeal bread/pasta, fruits, milk stuff like that. Get lots of sleep, your body grows and regenerates tissue while you sleep. Do lots of exercise (running etc).
