  1. When you make daals that are turri style (watery) add soya chunks. I get my mum to add them into my cholay, paneer, etc. You can put them into pasta sauces too. Nuts like almonds are brilliant snacks to eat, make sure you chew the nuts up properly and get them as small as you can. If the pieces are too big, they will pass right through your digestive system.

  2. I can read and write Gurmukhi well, but I have some trouble with understanding certain paths. Do we have to do our path in the original Punjabi? Wouldn't it be better for people who can't read/understand gurbani to read it in a language they understand. So when they do Japji Sahib, they could read it in English. I mean the whole point of doing path is to understand and take on board the message gurbani gives.

  3. Yes sir I usually eat it with chollay lol.

I'm going to also go to the local farmers market next week to get raw milk. I'm going to need to get more protein intake even though I'm doing alright right now. As you gain muscle and progress in working out/ lifting need to increase protein intake to gain and maintain.

Doesn't saag has protein in it?

    How about those Quorn products?

Only food I'll ever buy online is this stuff haha. It's the best for vegetarians (and for those who can't eat gluten stuff). It has a really high protein content and has almost all the essential amino acids we need to build our muscles.

It tastes just like rice and low in fat. It's perfect.

    How do you eat it?

Can you have dehi and karhi (dahl) with it?

  5. Based on discussions I've had with my parents and grandparents, it does seem that mona jatt sikhs were almost non-existent in the 20-30 years prior to the partition. Beard-trimming was common even back then, but it was virtually unheard of to see an adult jatt sikh male without a turban and facial hair.

Yeah, I think this is true. Some elders in my family didn't know much about Sikhi, but they kept their hair and never cut it.

  6. The aren't many Sikhs in Pakistan anymore. After the partition of India in 1947, Sikhs had to leave their homes for the Indian side as it was too dangerous to stay. India has the largest Sikh population (concentrated in the Punjab region) and this is followed by the UK.

I suggest that you change Divali to Bandi Chor, this is the Sikh name for the festival. It falls on the same day as the Hindu festival of Divali, but we celebrate for different reasons. Also, Vaisakhi is the day when the Khalsa was created by the 10th guru, because most Sikhs are Punjabi, Vaisakhi is also the day when the harvest is celebrated and has some cultural celebrations.

    Guru Nanak instead of Lanka.

We also do Nagar Kirtans on festivals. This is when we do parades in towns and give food etc. on the way. The Guru Granth Sahib leads the procession with 5 Sikhs (panj pyare).

You might want to mention langar. This was started by the first guru, Guru Nanak. Langar refers to the free meals you can find at a gurdwara. Anyone is welcome and can take part in the langar. Everyone sits together and eats the same food, showing equality and getting rid of your ego.

There are no priests, but gurdware will employ people to care of the Guru Granth Sahib and do things such as teaching children about Sikhism and Punjabi. These are called Granthis.

Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak, but it evolved with the following 9 human Gurus. The last, current Guru (11th Guru) is the Guru Granth Sahib, this is the Sikh holy book and it is treated with great respect.

Good luck with your book. :)

  7. Credible source?

Milk has been drank for years upon years, I don't think people had much trouble.

The USA has all these health probelms because of crap diet. Junk food etc.

However, homogonised milk may be worse than non-homogenised because the fat particles are made smaller, this might make it harder to absorb vitamins like A and E.

I've been drinking 5-10 cups at least for the past 15 years of my life. I've never broken a bone.

  8. Homosexuality is entirely against Sikh principled and, not surprisingly, condemned by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. What I don't understand is why are we running to protects the 'rights' of homosexuals. If in Sikhi homosexuality is a sin, why should we have any obligation in protecting their 'rights'. Would you protect the 'rights' of a rapist, paedophile or murderer? After all their people too.

Homosexuals are here to indulge worldly pleasures. This is maya. A Sikhs job is to tune in to the wold hereafter. A sikh is not interested in such things. Naturally, marriage is between man and wife only since procreation is integral to marriage.

Yeah... Don't think being a homosexual is quite the same as being a rapist/murderer/peadophile.

  9. Very interesting topic. The original question "When did your family become Sikhs?" seems to make logical sense to all.

    Do you mean no sense?

Well, all I meant was that most of us were born into a Sikh family. I just wanted to find out about other people's stories etc.

Like today people who convert to Sikhi have a story to tell of how they came into contact with it. It would've been the same back then when our ancestors were around.

  10. Kaam is a natural thing. It is a part of life. You simply don't want it to take over your life. No where does it say to get rid of kaam entirely. Just remember you are the master of your body. Do not let the 5 take over and rule you.

Remember, it all starts with your thoughts. Thoughts lead to feelings and feelings lead to actions. Control your thoughts. Simran and meditation can help you to control your mind and thoughts.

  11. If you're watching a lot of porn, then I advise you to limit and try stop.

Porn can make it harder for you to find people attractive. When the time comes to get it up for your partner, you might not be able to do it. *Sorry for being so blunt* :blush2:

It's like a drug, dopamine is released and it makes you feel good.

  12. So you are the one from those lucky familes who did benti :)

Seems that way. My family were definately blessed, never had any trouble.

I would really like to trace my family back. I'll be checking land records when I go next time.

Is there a way of finding out when a house was built? My old ancesteral home is still there, in the middle of the pind. So it must be really old. It's been there for at least 5-6 generations (as far as my dad can remember).
