Gur Fateh!
Ok so basically, Im lonely in the sense that I cant get sangat anywhere. I know Maharaaj is always with me and when i go to GuruGhar I dont feel it at all. But the problem is i Live in a town where the Sikhs (the elderly and the youth) are more 'Sunday Sikhs' and turn up to the Gurudwara on a Sunday have lanagar and then go. It doesnt help with the fact that my family (parents and bro) are more 'punjabi' than Sikh and think im a bit crazy when i talk about Sikhi etc; and are more mixed (i can expand but its long)
So i guess im asking is therte any Sikhs that I can talk to and build my Sikhi with etc ? It may sound weird but i know sangat mahaan hai !
Please inbox me or reply here
Thanks for taking the time to read
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
I was going to post somewhat the same thing on here lol. How can you be attached to sangat and attend Gurdwara Sahib when most of the people that attend cause corruption in the Gurdwara Sahib? How do you concentrate when everyone around you is trying to discuss other things? I often see myself losing my temper when I see people that disrespect the Guru Ghar and Guru Sahib and I am not sure how to deal with it.

Another mainstream singer showing support for the movie:
Gippy Grewal

Please do not forget to click "like" on youtube. we need to make the % of likes vs dislikes massive.
This music video is probably the main reason the film got banned. prior to this, the film was given the go ahead, they thought it would be a low profile film.
Jazzy B song took it mainstream, and hailed Sant Jee!
We may agree not, with Jazzy B's previous conduct and music. But one thing is for sure, he represents a large proportion of Punjabs youth culture.
No one i can think of can have his affect, also the media will sideline anyone else, moranwalia, Jagowal, imortal, tigerstyle etc as extremists, sidelining them.
It is impossible for them to sideline jazzy b as an extremist or hardliner. he in fact is as commercial as they get.
He has also shown courage standing by his stance under pressure from political corners and did well on nihal show.
Please push this song as much as possible.. request it brit asia, request it on all bhangra outlets as well as dharmic channels.
At least he didn't turn his back on the Sikh community as our own "representative" Jathedars did.

Please buy the actual album off of i-tunes instead of downloading the songs illegally.

How can KPS Gill openly threaten the movie makers? Can't they file a case against him for publicly threatening them?

CHANDIGARH, Punjab (April 8, 2013)–At a press conference organized at Punjab University, the former “Super Cop” of Punjab responsible for the killings of thousands of innocent Sikhs asked for strict measures to be implemented so that movies such as “Sadda Haq” are not able to “disrupt peace” in Punjab. KP Gill also slammed the SGPC for the 1984 memorial Gurdwara at the Harmandir Sahib.
The movie Sadda Haq highlights police brutalities that continued for two decades in Punjab. As part of its process to curb the Sikh Freedom Movement for human rights, the Punjab Police often adopted brutal methods of dealing with freedom fighters and their families. Thousands of Sikh youth were tortured in police custody and killed in fake encounters.
KP Gill was at the Punjab University for a conference in which he spoke about so-called “terrorism” in Punjab. Gill stated that the ban on the movie was required as it glorified and promoted “terrorism.” He also openly demanded action against the movie producer and crew. He called for the immediate arrest of the producers, Paramjit Singh Kalkat and Jarnail Singh.
Gill also shared strong remarks for the SGPC, stating that it must be eliminated as it does not represent the entire Sikh community. He alleged that the memorial would only serve the purpose of glorifying so-called “terrorism.” In regards to the role of the Punjab police after 1984 and through the early 1990s, Gill stated that he did not have any regrets for the actions taken by the Punjab Police at his behest–including endless torture, disappearances, rapes, murders and mass graves.
SGPC Backtracks on the Movie; Aligns with Fascist Punjab Government
SGPC President Avtar Makkar has taken a u-turn on support for the movie “Sadda Haq.” The move comes a day after the Akal Takhat Sahib was requested to help lift the ban on the movie. Makkar claimed that the SGPC had made a mistake by supporting the movie earlier. He alleged that the ban on the movie is rightful and Punjab, Haryana and Jammu Governments did nothing wrong by banning the showings.
Makkar further stated that in the future the SGPC will be more careful towards similar movies. He alleged that the peace in Punjab was hard earned and it must be kept at all costs.
Large Scale Support Continues for the Movie Abroad and at Home
Although officially the movie remains banned in Punjab, Haryana and other parts of India, it has continued to attract support from those living abroad and at home. People in Punjab and Jammu have come out in the streets in support of the movie. In the United States and Canada, the movie showings all across the continent have been fully sold out.
The Sadda Haq team has gained immense support from the audience. Sadda Haq hashtag and support are trending on social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Sad state of our panth today. People who are supposed to be representative of our Sikh panth (SGPC, Akal takht jathedar) won't take a stand for our rights and our freedom of speech. Kind of losing hope in our system.

I have heard in some Youtube Videos / discussions that Gujarat is to be declared the first official HINDU state of India. Is this TRUE? is this how democracy works???
Massacre Muslim minority, no Justice, and now Gujarat is on the path of first HINDU state!
That must be so painful for the Muslims whose family members were massacred, raped, and murdered.

However, to counter advocates of freedom of creative expression are those who support the ban, arguing that it is placed in the interest of the society. Vishesh Chhabra, a student of journalism and mass communication in Amritsar, says, “I feel that the ban is justified because the film deals with a sensitive issue and post its release, it would have led to communal disorder. A horde of allegations on various communities would have started, leading to disturbance. Although I do feel that films are used as a medium to inform, but there is no point discussing old issues again.”

They aren't old issues because justice hasn't been served. Then lets release Bhai Rajoana from jail and say that they are old issues lets not bring it up any more.
No Indian says that, "We shouldn't bring up the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar azad, Surya Sen because they are old issues lets not discuss what the British did to our nation."
But when another minority tries to ask for justice, they claim we shouldn't bring up old issues.
Hypocrisy.

Well the guy has done which no average Sikh ( mona or otherwise) has done. So please stop criticizing him for this. We need to support him
Exactly. I am no one to judge him.

Yes he was a mona Sikh and he said he grew his hair for the movie.

Its not playing in my state otherwise I would take my whole family to go see it. But I will be interested in buying multiple copies of the dvd and distributing them at the Gurdwara if anyone has any info on that. I know the film just released so its probably not on DVD yet.

Exactly so I don't understand how Hindu's can claim that they were also "targeted" because of the movement.

Whether someone likes it or not, but ask any student of economics, as of now India is a growing economy with somewhere like 8% GDP per year. The middle class in India is anywhere close to 250 million and actually has a magnitude of purchasing power which no country can ignore. There are scores of businessmen in Pakistan who are desperate to sell their products and services to such a huge market but thanks to their government, army, and Jihadi janitors, they just can't. US is already outsourcing a lot of jobs to India (besides other places like Malaysia and Philippines) all because of cheap labor charges. And then India has the image of "the world's largest democracy", where (a.) no martial law is imposed as in Pakistan, (b.) no coups happen as in Pakistan, (c.) has an image of a secular democracy inspite of several human rights violations. So one thing is certain, US cannot take any step now or in the near future which will piss India off.
Secondly, the Sikh population in US is not as high as that of non-Sikhs of Indian descent. Agreed, Sikhs are a contributing section of American society but possibly not as much as others. This will be a hard nut to crack, but we have enough examples of those who entered US illegally and then took political asylum. We have enough of those who did fake marriages only to settle here. You think the Americans don't know that? Really? Sorry, and guess what, they know it all! Our own folks (yes yes, not all and not many) have soiled our image here as bad as other Indians and Pakistanis. Those of you who are born and raised here won't know because you never had to stand in line at a US embassy to get a visa to come to the US, so don't bother thinking over it, you won't get it, lol.
Thirdly, Sikhs are not as important to the goray like the Jews are. Nobody cares. All the sweet talk that happened after the Wisconsin incident was a lollypop, stuff it, shut up and move on, that is how you got to live here. The day they need to screw with India, thats the only day we will finally get some sympathy, nothing before that. So quit expecting sympathy from US just like we quit expecting justice from India.
Last but not the least, our evergreen enemy, i.e. lack of unity. We can't even be united when it comes to getting justice. We have to backstab and legpull each other in the name of...whatever it is, whatever we supposedly owe allegiance to. Our enemies have become smarter but we're too busy fighting among ourselves and the result is in front of us today. We've become a joke! Even after 30,000 signatures we couldn't convince the damn world that it was a freaking genocide!
Shame on those who are insensitive to loss of human life! But bigger shame to those who can't even stay united and fight for a common cause!
May Guru Sahib bless SFJ with more Chardi Kala to carry on the struggle!
This is so true. This may be a little off topic but I have an example of how our own people ruin our image in public. In a Gurdwara they held a candle light vigil in memory of Wisconsin tragedy. The committee invited many officials and other prominent American figures from the state. A few weeks later a fight broke out inside the Gurdwara. Turbans were flying and therefore the cops were called. The cops looked at the Gurdwara with shame. They said that a few weeks ago you guys showed us how peaceful and caring your community is and a few weeks later you're fighting inside your Gurdwara. Our own people mock us so no one takes us seriously.
We want the government to take us seriously but think about how many problems we've had in our own management?

Definition of RIOT1archaic2a : public violence, tumult, or disorder
b : a violent public disorder; specifically : a tumultuous disturbance of the public peace by three or more persons assembled together and acting with a common intent
Definition of GENOCIDE: the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural groupSource: http://www.merriam-webster.com/Its so obvious the difference between the two. America knows very well it was a genocide. They also know about Modi. But world runs on money and power. Why would they bother ruining relations with India?
So much hypocrisy in the world.

This stuff makes me so mad! It none of their business. Always trying to butt into our issues of the Sikh panth. They don't say crap when other people glorify mass murderers and rapist.
When will India realize that they have no right to interfere in our religious issues.
In fact they make movies about underworld dons glorifying their lifestyle. They make movies about people like the Thakure family glorifying them. They are considering Modi for PM position!!
But when someone states the truth, they say that "Oh they are glorifying militants."

"Hindu genocide of Punjab?" Are they having a laugh?
I've been reading some stuff recently about India post-1947 that've touched on the events in the 80s and 90s in Panjab, and nowhere do the (Hindu) writers of said books even allude to the fact that Sikhs messed with Hindus in such a way. Sure, the words 'sectarian' and 'fundamental' are thrown about but only in reference to the aims of the separatists, but genocide? The idiots making the Yahoo comments have been watching too much NDTV! :biggrin2:
So Hindus always bring up the fact that they were removed from Buses and killed. Although we all know that they weren't Sikhs that did that they were black cats to defame Sikhs in the media, how many such incidents actually occurred? Like how many buses were stopped and how many Hindus were killed? Does anyone even know?

Guys come on let it go Jazzy B. did this, applaud his effort and lets support the movie.
When non Sikhs come out for support of justice we don't say "Oh you're not a Sikh you aren't allowed to stand up for our rights." Or when non Sikhs speak well about Sikhi we don't say "Hey you aren't a Sikh you have no right to say something about our religion."When a hindu writes a book about Sant Ji and defending Sikh movement we don't say "Hey you aren't allowed to do that."
When someone who may not be a Gursikh but was raised by Sikhs comes out and tries to support justice for 84, mentions Bhai Rajoana in his song, mentions Singhs like Hari Singh Nalwa, all of a sudden we are panthic police lol.
In fact by doing this he might even lose his fan following but he's still trying to do the right thing.

There is a sakhi I heard of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
There were two neighbors and after working one of them would always go to the Gurdwara Sahib to meet Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the other one would go to wrong places. One day, the one that was going to the Gurdwara got a thorn stuck in his feet. The other one ended up finding golden coins. So the man went to Guru Ji and said that he always comes to hazoori and does path but he got a thorn stuck in his feet whereas his neighbor doesn't go to Guru Ji and he found golden coins, why so? Guru Ji said that according to the man's karm, he was supposed to have a worse health problem but because he does path and goes to gurdwara he only got a thorn stuck in his feet. The neighbor was supposed to be very very rich but because he doesn't do path or go to Gurdwara he ended up with only a few golden coins.
I'm sorry if I made any mistakes I'm just restating the sakhi off of memory.

I was reading the facebook comments and I read this comment:
Women and kids get raped Where the Punjab cop comes from and nothing gets done about it so wut u think is gonna happen here, cops are just p****** wit a bit of backup from the government but once u put a barrel to a defenseless cop u should see how quick his fetal position is quick to appear.0 -
This is probably why we don't get support. Because we shun out anyone who promotes justice or preservation in all his "impurities."

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,
I am writing a college research paper on the impact of 9/11 on Sikh Identity and the mistaken identity of Sikhs in North America post 9/11. I was hoping Saad Sangat could help with me with some sources, scholarly articles, direct surveys/interviews, or even with organization of this paper. I have found a few good articles and research papers online and at my University but there are probably more out there that I may not know of. So feel free to give any suggestions or any sources I can refer to
Dhanvaad :D

You're right I shouldn't be too judgmental. Maybe sometimes I overgeneralize because when I see the people that I know for sure cause beadbi, I assume their acquaintances are like that too. I should focus on positive things and not the negatives.
