  1. Darwin's theory of evolution

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Ang 176 - Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee Maharaj

    ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਭਏ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥

    In so many incarnations, you were a worm and an insect;

    ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਗਜ ਮੀਨ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥

in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer.

    ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਰਪ ਹੋਇਓ ॥

In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake.

    ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਹੈਵਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਖ ਜੋਇਓ ॥੧॥

In so many incarnations, you were yoked as an ox and a horse. ||1||

Could Guru Sahib also be referring to reincarnation?

  2. It's good that this topic is being highlighted: however what baffles me is that it is always moneh Sikhs that are showing they are diehard khalistanis; like this guy is he in rehat? Is he a keshdhari?

    Any others think this?

    (null)

Veereh, he may be a mona, but from his actions it is seen that he has a lot of love for Guru Ji and Sikhi. It should be inspirational for everyone. We shouldn't single him out and say he is a mona. Because he is making a lot of effort, more than many of us here.

  3. This is so good. I like how he presented the idea of other minorities also being oppressed and he mentioned the freedom fighters. I also liked how he emphasized on Indian killing Indian concept. This will surely open the eyes of not just Sikhs but other faiths too who consider themselves Indian and they will realize what so called "mahan" India has been doing.

  4. Hey man , stop being childish ! :D

And plus you think our Guru sahib would have to kill 6 people (plus make those left behind family members miserable ) to convey a point !??

You never thought of this , did you ?

Also , most severe kes katal done by boys . They're also removing turbans .

Apparently , god did not chose a guy to convey the point !

Veereh why are you being so negative?

  5. how do i know if the question or choice is right or wrong?

I think veerji is asking about how he should interpret the Hukumnama from Maharaj.

This is what I do sometimes when Maharaj Ji gives a Hukumnama which is hard for me to understand, I read it over and over again. I read the translations of the viakheya of the shabad. And slowly you will understand what Guru Sahib Ji are telling you.

  6. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

    Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Saad sangat ji, I am going through some tough times in life right now which I cant really share. I have been feeling low and upset a lot recently and it has started to affect my bani. I have realized that only Guru Sahib is the one who will stand with us, Guru Sahib Ji will never leave our side.

I was hoping if saad sangat ji could post some motivational sakhi's, katha, kirtan, Gurbani, or articles which would help my moorakh budhi understand that Guru Sahib will always be there for you whether anyone else is or not.

Please help a moorakh sister out.

  7. I go to the temple and ask the pardaan or sevadaars if it has a larivaar saroop (if real guru is present). If it is not then I exit the premises. What's the point me being there? How can it be real satsangat when our guru is not present?

Let me tell you there are some people who want to follow every hukam of guru sahib attain his total happiness but many try to find short cuts and ways out. Will you get love (sackhand) without following guru sahib totally?

I was once a manmukh went to parties and hanged around with the wrong crowd. Those people loved me because I was LIKE them but when I started keeping my kes and started to follow a gursikhi lifestyle they started to neglect and hate me. Why? because they were jealous.

Next I moved to certain group in sikhi (I don't want to mention any names) who were obsessed with keeping only certain rehats such as sarbloh bibek etc. I was with them for sometime and they liked me a lot because we were similar. But one day I questioned them about not doing keertan in raag and that it is wrong not to as this is hukam by guru sahib. I told them we left manmukh sangat (sharabi kababi people) because they didn't follow rehats and we are doing the same but you know what happened?

They got so angry and joked about raag being not important. I knew these people were only obsessed with one teaching of someone but didn't want to follow all hukams of guru sahib. I wrote this in another post but this is very important so I'll paste it below:

I would also like to add and this is very very important. As well as what I wrote above about sarbloh bibek and amridhari cooking the food only. I have noticed a weakness in others rehit as well, which for serious seekers of gurmat naam should keep focus on.

Raag vidia is a MUST! Keertan sung in non raag is not keertan and should be not listened to. Guru's bani is perfect and keertan sung from gurbani must be perfect. People who do not sing in raag should learn how to and this is a hukam from guru sahib (as gurbani is composed in raag).

Ones who do not sing in raag should be avoided. We must follow ALL of guru sahib's hukam to get his full blessings and get sachkand. Without following all hukams the maximum we can reach is KARAM KHAND.

ONLY gursikhs who do keertan in raag, keep sarbloh bibek ie all hukams can become one with Guru!

NB. Obviously this will apply to serious seekers of naam abiaas so choose your sangat wisely.

Anyway I had no sangat for very long time but unfortunately I fell and tried to find a short cut by following some teaching of saints (don't want to mention any names because they are very prominent in sikhi i.e. they have autobiographies and recordings online).

But guru ji then did kirpa again and made me realise NOT all of these KEPT ALL REHATS OF GURU SAHIB. So how were they saints? We need to follow our TRUE GURU not some sant or dehdari Guru. Running from one sants teaching to another. Remember this - here's a pad ched for your reference.

bin sathigur kinai n paaeiou bin sathigur kinai n paaeiaa ||

Without the True Guru, no one has obtained the Lord; without the True Guru, no one has obtained the Lord.

    ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਪੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥

sathigur vich aap rakhioun kar paragatt aakh sunaaeiaa ||

He has placed Himself within the True Guru; revealing Himself, He declares this openly.

    Satguru Mehar KARAN

    Daas consciousness

I agree with how Kirtan should be sung in Raags. I don't like it when raagi's sing in musical tunes which could have been from songs or whatever. The name RAAGI in itself has Raag in it. However, they are still singing our Guru Sahib's Bani even though they may not be singing it in the right way. Lets not disrespect Maharaj's Bani by saying that we shouldn't listen to it. Waheguru Ji deh gunn aapneh kana vich jaandeh neh. Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj deh bachan aapa suhndeh ah. Whether we read Gurbani from pothi sahib, lareevar Guru Granth Sahib Ji or Pad Ched Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the bani we read and recite is dhan dhan king of kings Guru Nanak Patshah Ji di bani.

But brother how do you do nitnem then? If you don't agree with pad ched granth?

  8. Yes it is wrong because you are not amritdari you have not obtained the true naam - so when making langar how can you do true naam abiaas and make langar properly because you haven't received naam - so how can your naam be passed on to the food to make it holy. Naam can only be obtained from guru roop punj pyarea who have serious naam roopi. Once you have naam drir then you can do langar di seva until then you can clean the dishs or hoover the floors.

It is important because you are being unfair to amridharis who keep full rehit; your weakness will affect their gursikhi jeevan. Please be cautious.

    Daas

    Consciousness

I dont quite think that you have the right to tell me that no offense. The Gursikhs that know me would speak otherwise. Someone who is not an amritdhari, their nitnem could be far greater than that of an Amritdhari. This sort of attitude is what drives youth away from Sikhi. I am not weak, I'm trying to achieve at a slow pace. Who are you to tell me that I cannot do Seva at my Guru's ghar? What makes food holy? Its one thing to stop people from making langar who indulge in wrongful activities and its another to stop someone who is working to fix their jeevan. I am not being unfair to any Amritdharis.

I expected a more sophisticated and intellectual response. Not a response bashing on why I am weak and I will cause harm to others gursikhi jeevan.

  9. I agree with the bhai sahib above. As well as this langar should be served in sarbloh batai and ONLY amridharis must make the food. Now days the Deg is made by non amridharis and this is pure manmat; serious seekers in gurmat naam abiaas should refrain from eating the deg or even langar at the gurdwara if non amridharis make it.

    Satguru Mehar Karan!

    Daas

    Consciousness

Veer Ji I am not an amritdhari so does that mean when I do langar di seva its wrong? Why?

  10. I think yearning wasn't the best word used because it implies the loss or lack of something. Clearly the enlightened are one with God they can't lose sachkand. Guru Ji didn't have to jaap naam when he got realised. Have you read atam gian section by kavi santokh singh? Guru was sohang avasta where they don't need to jaap naam. But for others to see them jaaping nam so they can get realised as well. Only to teach others.

Giani Thakur Singh Ji also says this in their larivaar Katha of Guru Granth Sahib Ji that a brahmgiani does not need to jap naam anymore because ohna deh rom rom vich naap vasda. Giani Ji says its like a child saying to their father why dont you go to school? Now the father has already gone to school and graduated. Same case. But Giani Ji says that the Brahmgiani's do path naam simran to show others so they can also start following the path.

However, despite this I believe Guru Nanak Dev Ji were Satguru. They were born Mukht and Bhai Gurdas Ji's vaaran and Guru Ji's Janam Sakhiya supports this.

  11. Sometimes I think about it and get very very sad so I know how you feel. Our panth is split so much and I would say from where I am at only 5%-10% of the youth know anything about Sikhi or have any sort of interest. Our elders consider the gurdwara sahib a place of conflict gossip and politics. They fail to realize that Guru Sahib is pargat there and they are acting like this in front of Maharaj.

For the sangat that is interested in Sikhi, some of them just create divides based on beliefs or controversies.

  12. Those preparing langar such also do paath and naam abhiyaas instead of gossip and general conversations.

This is an issue which bothers me a lot personally. I have seen countless incidents at the Gurdwara Sahib where bibiya instead of doing path and naam abhiyaas stand there gossip. There was one incident when I heard an older bibi talking about disgusting and vulgar things while making prashadeh.

    Ghor Kaljug Ah Gaya!

  13. Bhenji listen to Larivaar Katha of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj by Giani Thakur Singh Ji.

    Here is the link :

    http://www.gurbaniupdesh.org/multimedia/index.php?q=f&f=%2F04-Katha%2F13-Giani+Thakur+Singh+Ji+%28Patiala+Wale%29%2FKatha+Sri+Guru+Granth+Sahib+Ji

It will take a long time to complete I'm still listening to it and it has been months but I know it will be worth it bhenji :)

Its very simple katha baba ji does not go into too much depth so its very easy to understand. Listen to it every day and personally, after I listen to katha I strive to read bani. Its also a nice reminder everyday to jap nam and to realize what is important.

  14. In a spiritual sense, meat is not allowed because of daya, compassion. As someone previously posted, the human mind has evolved to understand compassion. Thats why we don't go barbarically killing our neighbors. For a Sikh the ultimate goal is to reach Waheguru. So in order to do that we need gunn (qualities).

    Gurbani says:

    ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

Vin Gun Keethae Bhagath N Hoe ||

Without virtue, there is no devotional worship.

    from Jap Ji Sahib.

If we are to go and kill and eat animals who feel pain which has been proven, then we cannot posses the Gun needed for Bhagati because the compassion isn't there. I don't want this to turn into a meat debate so I wont elaborate further. But as for your question that God gave us the ability to break down protiens why not use it, well God gave us Maya, God created ego, lust, emotional attachment, greed, and anger. But that doesn't mean use it.

I will use an example of Islam, do not take it that I am attacking or anything just an example which will help understand.

The Koran prohibits Muslims from eating pork. Why? Theres two answers given. Because Allah said so. And that pig is unhealthy for a human body due to the internal structures of the pig. I am not going to explain too much on why because you should know this. Well if we use your logic then shouldn't Muslims be allowed to eat pork because pork can be digested ?

Meat of any sort is very very unhealthy for Human body not just Pork and bacon. Which is why Sikhs do not do anything which can cause harm to our body.

Sikhism prohibiting meat does not contradict the idea that the Creator is perfect, therefore he created the body of the creation perfect. Its not a mistake we have hair in "unwanted" places.
